Just seen tweets, and news outlets stating styillan petrov has convinced TS to go in for free 34 yr old striker berbatov ex Spurs, Man U, Monaco and that were supposedly in advanced contract talks, he believes he has one more fling to show in PL make what you want of it, I think I would prefer addy on loan instead :)

28 Jul 2015 22:58:32
ive seen the links on Berbatov, not allowed to post foul language so just no, please. NO

Agree2 Disagree2

29 Jul 2015 05:07:59
I have to disagree. I think Berbatov is a class act and when I heard Monaco were not renewing his contract I was really hoping that we'd pick him up. He's the sort of player that clan pull a rabbit out a hat and for me, we've not had one of them for a while. His age doesn't bother me either as he's never played with great pace anyway. For a season or two I think he'd do a good job if TS played him regularly.

Agree3 Disagree4

29 Jul 2015 07:34:42
Berbatov yes plz, Berba has real class he' a footballing master class. Yes he's nearing the end of his career but class is permanent & he oozes class, never been the quickest but knows where the goal is & can turn any defender inside out.

Agree0 Disagree2

29 Jul 2015 08:14:39
Noooo the slowest lazyiest forward line in the prem after a week of highs, then finally accepting adebayour could do well for us under TS as has been proven already, but berbatov seriously!!! Waste of wages No thanks

Agree3 Disagree1

29 Jul 2015 09:00:38
Berbatov is all of the above. let's hope he is more "world class" than "slowest, laziest" if/when he joins. Benteke had his lazy moments pre-Sherwood.

The last player we signed on Petrov's recommendation was Tonev. Just saying.

Agree2 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 13:44:19
Have to agree with mattwilko. That is the first thing that came to mind. Stan recommended Tonev. Petrov was a great player, but may not be the greatest scount/ when it comes to evaluating talent/potential or whether someone still has it.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 21:36:38
See it a bit like when we signed Chris Sutton! First thought what are we thinking of and he is past it. In the end he put in a shift and gained our respect be it for only a brief spell. Berbatov could be a good small by of business to come off the the bench but could be another Grant Holt? Worth a punt all the same

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 20:53:23
Bunn, Hutton, Clark, Richards, Amavi, bacuna, Westwood, gueye, Sinclair, gabby, koziak strong line up starting, hoping get to see ayew from bench get a glimpse, don't think it would be starting 11 vs Bournemouth but not bad really :)

Believable1 Unbelievable1

28 Jul 2015 21:45:55
Bacuna and Hutton are muck, just not good enough in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Jul 2015 22:04:49
Bacuna had solid game to be fair,Hutton was okay whole team was strong, organised, had pace, speed really should of won easily but baker Jeeez yet again another gift, how many more chances will he get :)

28 Jul 2015 22:13:59
Muck hahaha,i agree mate

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Jul 2015 23:01:10
If we looked that good tonight, how did we concede 2 goals against a mid table championship side.
A lot of room for improvement and still more players needed.
Another centre mid, a right winger, a striker, and a goalkeeper for me, Guzan us good but what happens if he gets injured?

Agree1 Disagree1

29 Jul 2015 07:01:42
Hutton was unreal last season, Holte end loved him, take it upon himself to drive down the right because no one gave him an option

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 07:32:15
I was at the game as well and I agree bucuna and Hutton were pants never sure what they have to do for me I like Sinclair and he looked sharp at times but he's not a number 9 for me we defo need two strikers taking nothing away from kozak he worked his socks off and scored a lovely goal but it ain't good enough for prem, there was some good points amavi was class, Richards got into the game, guey was really ropey at start looked like Sanchez when he first started but then he game into the game really impressed we still need a lot of improvement though

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 10:43:08
I'm sorry, but you can drive down the right all day long, but if you can't put a decent cross in what is the point. In defense we was constantly getting turned on the right.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 20:40:28
Just watched 1st half vrs Wolves, koziak looks like a free quality signing after his torrid injury season, Amavi wow he looks the real deal bombing up and down flanks, Richards looks little bit rusty but on a whole strong line up, with pace, speed, should be 2/3 up but 0-1 koziak, I know it's only wolves but still a Derby and both teams treating it like league game which is good to see :)

Leicester have apparently offered between €13-14m for Veretout, more than Villas bid. Sure we'll at least match it but a bidding war isn't great

Believable1 Unbelievable1

28 Jul 2015 19:55:51
The bid will not always secure the player, if he does not fancy Leicester then we have a good chance.
Surely if he looks at history, ground, fan base, etc etc he would choose Villa, wouldn’t he !!!!
It is up to him after all.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 19:58:00
Quite annoying this as he's been given permission to speak to us already

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Jul 2015 20:10:46
Surely there is only one winner if it's a choice between us and Leicester ?

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 20:54:40
Exactly what you all said. Who are Leicester! Seems like he'd be our most promising signing so I'm sure we'll match the offer and get it wrapped up. If it was straight forward it just wouldn't be a villa signing

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 20:55:43
Mendax - the only factor that decides the winner is money, and I don't blame the players if the clubs are willing to pay it. I'm sure Sherwood will have a huge list of targets he's looking at, its just nice to be linked with players of this value for a change.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 21:16:39
Apparently it's all wrapped up he'll be playing in the claret and blue this year

28 Jul 2015 12:35:57
Got to say I am very impressed with TS transfer activity with these players he is bringing in, it's nice to see 9/10mil players arriving instead of 2/3 mil these players really look like they can make a big improvement for villa this season just waiting on the news of a striker or two. What do people think?

Believable3 Unbelievable0

28 Jul 2015 13:32:50
I'm well over the players that left, and now looking forward with optimism. If you had told me at christmas that this season we wouldn't have Delph (which we wouldn't due to contract anyway), Vlaar and benteke then I wouldn't have been surprised. But, with the addition of Richards, Sinclair, amavi, ayew and the other cm 9m lad I'm more optimistic now than I have been for over three years. I'm also hopeful that we could see more of Callum Robinson and gardener, and actually gabby might do better with more support around him.

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 14:32:47
Got to agree Alby and Woods I feel with business concluded and players in so far I'm more excited about this season than have been for few years now, still not sure over sale of club as most these players brought from selling, one good thing if no sale RL seems to have got his love back for us and I put that down to TS passion and winning mentality flowing in his veins, although never ever forgive Delph for giving us promises then kicking us in the nuts week later, which totally ruined my weekend, but what a difference a week makes, quietly optimistic that come business end we won't be worrying like many a season now,NEW era,New squad,Sherwood may become a legend. :))

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 14:34:49
We've been piss poor for the last 3/4 years. A complete squad revamp was what we needed at it's what we're in the process of getting! Hopefully exciting times ahead

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 15:33:55
Must agree with you lads, starting to feel way more optimistic about villa than I have for a while. Excited for the new season to start and hoping TS brings in a few more players.

28 Jul 2015 02:04:53
Jordan Veretout to join villa within next 2 days. Another box to box midfielder that has an eye for a goal and a pass. Around 11 million will be the fee. looks a good player.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - I wouldn't hold your breath.}

28 Jul 2015 07:24:36
If we get him be a class signing. Also linked with Liverpool and spurs though so ain't reading much into it but he is a talent

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 08:16:10
Positive as usual ed. I think we might get darder instead.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 08:21:49
I believe there is a rule about signing more than 2 Jordan's in one window, so can't see this one happening.

28 Jul 2015 10:00:53
Nantes president has confirmed the deal

{Ed002's Note - Certainly unexpected.}

Trust me he will be a villa player in next 48 hours.

What's with all the jordans? Apparently we are after Jordan cousins too. perhaps bowery will make a come back ha

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 14:35:24
Trouble is Brendan Rodgers has got jealous now and feels he's missing out so he has put 2 bids in. One on jordan speith the other on Michael jordan lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 15:45:56
I hear Sherwood is also after Amer Deeb from Al-Wahdat. He's not very good but he's the captain of Jordan. He has also heavily invested in a new activity centre at Bodymoor Heath. It's Dwight Yorkes Ex. You can see where I'm going ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 00:45:52
I believe the takeover is progressing nicely. We have signed three of the most expensive players we have ever signed in quick succession over the last few weeks. My thoughts are that we are trying to do most of our business prior to announcing any new owner as it's well known a takeover could encourage selling clubs to increase their asking price. So I'm not panicking yet. Thoughts ?

Believable6 Unbelievable2

28 Jul 2015 01:55:56
Given NOTHING has been announced, and the cash is being splashed, you might be onto something!

Agree3 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 06:59:02
If you have a car you want to sell and is in need of extensive repair do you spend a few quid on doing it up to keep it road worthy, to get a good sale price for it? We are still for sale and need this injection of players to keep us on the premiership road as with TV money we would surely devaluate if any buyer thought we would crash out of the PL. RL is a business man so won't get too excited about any take over until the maths of spend are so high they go well over £40m CB and FD and the £20 plus we would have spent probably to try and stay up!

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 07:11:40
I think the new owner is being clever & has a agreement with Lerner, I may be well off but this is what I thinks actually happening.
I think by Lerner spending a lot of money say £50m before the takeover then selling the club for say £200m and not £150m will be a way around the Financial FairPlay rules.
Man City got around it by renaming their stadium the emirates for £500m.
Like I said could be wrong but seems very odd how Lerner has gone from a penny pincher to splashing the cash during a take over.
In theory that £50m then becomes money made by club turn over eg self sustained meaning the new owner could spend even more.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 07:28:08
Think we have cut a shed load of wage bill and players in so far wouldn't be on that much

Agree1 Disagree1

28 Jul 2015 07:47:04
I'm hearing we have been sold to a consortium led by Henry leconte, we are apparently changing name to Aston le villa and will in a shock move that will shake europes foundations take our place in ligue une next season turnin our backs on the EPL

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 09:59:31
We still haven't actually spent anything jus reinvested the money from Benteke and co's sales

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - That is "spending".}

28 Jul 2015 10:50:02
While I do agree the takeover is still progressing am I the only one that thinks the money we are spending is coming from the sale of players?

So far this window we have made around £35-£40m in transfer fees and shipped out massive wages with these going.
Delph, Benteke, Bent, Luna, Given, Lowton, Weimann, Vlarr, Cleverly, Sylla.
That's probably £350k a week in wages saved!

So with roughly £28m spend on players and all on lower wages than the players going out, Lerner is by no way making a loss.

As much as I am excited about our new signings, personally I think if they were being funded by a new buyer with mega money we would be going for already established premier league players who would push us towards top half football, not keeping us in the league. The likes of Townsend, Bolaise, Austin.

Looking at the sales compared to buys I think we need at least 4/5 more players to come in.

Hopefully there is more money to spend and the buying continues!

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 12:38:12
Haha Ed what i meant was Lerner hasn't actually invested any additional funds yet but at least he's allowed all the money earned to be reinvested in the squad

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 16:27:36
Lerner wanted the club to be self sufficent which it is , no new owner imo

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 00:22:21
still reckon that we need a "safer" bet of a striker if adebayor does come in - no denying that the bloke has quality but he isn't guaranteed to turn it on. also find it weird how austin hasn't moved yet, reckon tim has something in place with QPR due to his relationship with the higher powers at that club

Believable2 Unbelievable4

28 Jul 2015 08:49:33
I think Austin is yet to move because £15m and £85k a week is a lot of money for a player with limited top level experience and only 12 months left on his contract. I would happily have him join but not at those figures, which will likely drop as the window starts to close.
