Leaked news from villa scouting team.
No1 priority from Paul Lambert is to get a Quality Attacking Midfielder.

Nobody really knows who is on the shortlist.
This is not a rumour but fact, HoweverGeorginio Wijnaldum seen talking to our scout as recommended by Bacuna

Believable6 Unbelievable7

Wijnaldum is a terrific PROSPECT he is no where near developed enough to be expected to take on a huge role in my opinion.

I have mentioned it before, he has a very high ceiling and has oodles of ability.

Polar opposite to someone like Dempsey for example (who has also been mentioned in another rumour below).

I have to make myself clear, I am a big fan of the lad, but it would worry me slightly that he might be thrust into what I would consider "the missing link" role for us.

Massive upside might be enough to sway Lambert and I wouldn't be over critical if we went through with it as I trust Lambert.

Leroy

Agree4 Disagree5

Wijnaldum would be the perfect signing I think, paul lamberts type of player too.

does anyone know if the newport county game is on avtv or if there is anywhere to watch it?

Agree3 Disagree3

To Leroy. I agree with most of your posts especially when things are eloquently put with intelligence rather than a follow on diplomacy of already existing media waffle.

But the question is who would you recommend if given the chance a marquee signing of high ability/prospect AM under 24yrs

Agree6 Disagree2

I seriously believe grealish will be a superstar and save the club a potential 20 million purchase the boy is that good I went down and watched him yesterday against newport and the boy was on another planet to everybody else newport resorted to just kicking him and he still wanted the ball all the time I can't wait to see him break through to the 1st team

Agree5 Disagree1

I have commented in the past about how good Grealish will be, the kid has a huge amout of talent. I regret to say I haven't watched him so much recently, would you now say he is ready to step into the first team this season?

Agree2 Disagree2

I think he should definitely be dipped in and out of the 1st team this season he took a few whacks yesterday and was more than up to the physical battle I was very impressed

Agree1 Disagree2

Hello to the above commenter. and thanks (i think :)) for the feedback.

If I was given between 10-15mil (as that is what I consider the minimum amount it would take to obtain a marquee signing in today´s market), I would attempt to bring in one of the following -

Son Heung Min (Hamburg)

Totally two footed, ridiculously high work rate, great motor and already 13 caps for South Korea. Recently was purchased however and signed a 4 year deal.

Regardless, he is amazingly skilled and lethal in front of goal and very versatile. Will be a star.

Florian Thauvin (Lille)

10 goals from midfield in Ligue 1 (probably the most obtainable and cheapest option listed here - Arsenal sniffing around).

Adem Ljajic (Fiorentina)

Some may remember him from a bungled transfer that never went through with Man U as the terms were being investigated by FIFA.

8 goals 8 assists this season past and is a real playmaker with excellent passing range. Potentially a trouble maker though as he has been involved in a few controversies including refusing to sing the Serbian national anthem before one game and abusing his then coach.

Skill is certainly there to be seen.

Erik Lamela (Roma)

15 goals from the attacking midfield position and has great tenacity ala Suarez. deadly in front of goal and excellent dribbling skills which allows him to take on almost any defender one on one.

These guys I think can be difference makers and I would probably add Wijnaldum to the list as I really do rate him.

Soon is the best player of this bunch, but it is higher unlikely/near impossible to obtain him I think.

For some reason I watch a bit of La Serie A despite the style, I have actually grown quite fond of it as there is a lot of drama and is pretty entertaining. I will expect many to give me stick about it, but I stand by it :)

Cheers Leroy, as ever very astute/informed and summarized. Much obliged.

Every player named would definitely add some positive attacking influence. Villa are now a team waiting for a catalyst an enigma of a number 10 AM diverse two footed with the ability to make things happen let's hope we get it.

Agree7 Disagree1

Everybody knows its the one thing we are missing, from paul lambert, to the clueless daily fail. I just hope we can get somebody in at least by the liverpool game if not before. I have a lot of trust in lambert but I really hope he doesn't go too risky, we don't need a huge name, but somebody that will clearly make a difference and add a completely new dimension to our game. I also hope the guy we bring in can strike a decent free kick as well, as I can't rememer us scoring directly from a free kick since ashley young played for us (please remind if we have)

Agree1 Disagree1

Hi Leroy
I am not trying to be a smartarse here I promise you, just genuinely interested
How do you know so much about these players?
Do you really watch all these leagues?
I think if we are to get players like this we need to get in early, as we did with Benteke

Agree0 Disagree0

Last time we scored from a free kick I believe was Charles nzogbia

Agree2 Disagree1

Son and Lamela aren't realistic targets, especially not at that price.

Agree5 Disagree2

Westwood scored a freekick a week ago. friendly but still. we need a david silva type player obviously not silva. I like Jano Ananidze but he recently went out on loan I think. someone who thrives on assists is needed

kev

Agree2 Disagree1

Yep n'zogbia v west ham such a crucial goal at villa park in a 2-1 win

Agree3 Disagree1

Oh yes I totally forgot! Thanks for refreshing my memory, but you know somethings wrong when you have to strain to remember one.

Agree2 Disagree1

Mendax, its the culmination of having a real interest in football (and indeed just about all sports) and having a very understanding missus :)

I just stream all kinds of matches over a weekend, watch highlights etc. i'm pissed that tv has had an injunction set in place to see that streaming site "firstrowsports" will be prosecuted if they stream the premier league.

Might have to turn to the dark side and subscribe to AVTV : (

Leroy

Agree1 Disagree1

PS I would love to ask for the person or persons that disagree with my opinion of who I would try and spend 15mil on for an attacking midfielder, to state their opinion or perhaps even give some constructive criticism.

Perhaps even offer up some names of his own?

Leroy

Agree0 Disagree0

Leroy, the players you mentioned would be welcome at villa and you defo gave a great scouting report on them but Lamela and Min are completely unrealistic. Lamela will probably cost £20m and ask yourself if he'd come to us, when most think will be still fighting relegation and Roma will be competing for Serie A.

The others you talked of would be more of a gamble an are more about potential than current ability.

I'd take Wijnaldum over all of the players you named, purely because I think he'd give us more flair and unpredictability than the others

in saying all that, I find it hard to believe we'll sign any player for more than £8m which would rule out wijnaldum and others named. Capoue who isn't a flamboyant AM but is a fantastic all round CM and is available for £9m apparently who I think would make all the difference for us, yet we're not interested.

Agree6 Disagree1

Scg87 - really cool to hear you opinions and I agree entirely actually. I was asked (by someone without a name) who I would purchase as a marquee signing under the age of 24.

I gave my answers based on that and clearly Lamela and Min may require more money than 15mil.

Im not at all interested in this "agree"/"disagree" aspect of this site, ala "liking" something on . to me its meaningless, I am here for the banter and opinion from fellow Villa fans.

So thanks for sharing, you made excellent points of which I am in agreement with each of them.

I would also add, that just about any player at 21 years of age is a gamble. I mean, we were told not so long ago that Barry Bannan was the next coming of Xavi/Iniesta, now we can't even get rid for 750k! :)

Same as Benteke could falter (although it doesn't look as though it will happen) and go through a "sophomore slump" as they call it.

Some rumours are suggesting Dempsey might be coming to AVFC in an 8m deal

Believable2 Unbelievable11

So by Levy´s rules we should expect to pay 5/6mil max then ;)

Leroy

Agree2 Disagree1

8 million for that clown Dempsey?
Someone has been drinking the meths again.
Clarrie Blue.

Agree5 Disagree2

Great results again boys against new football league members newport county 5-2 defeat. ridiculous

Agree3 Disagree9

It was an under 21 game, hardly anything to get worked up about. No 1st teamers played

Agree8 Disagree1

So plenty of promise coming through the ranks then (not)

Agree1 Disagree6

Some Villa fans are as bad as tv FFS! It was an academy development squad game and the highest named player was Jack Grealish. Petrov managed the team and no first team players went! It was on the avfc website as a development game for months. Just stop with the negative and false comments. Clearly no faith in the avfc system. It was boys versus men at Newport and if you actually watched the game anyway, despite a crazy 15 minutes in the second half, Our young lions were actually very good! Very good. Promising for the future that's for sure!
Azza

Agree4 Disagree2

I don't care what anyone says, if our best youth players are getting caned by awful, part time opposition, then there's not a lot to look forward to is there?
how is stating that we lost 5-2 to newport 'false'? its exactly what happened and as I said in 1st post its ridiculous we should be killin such rubbish teams, even with our u21s.

Agree1 Disagree6

Most of the players on the pitch have never played a competitive professional game in their life, seriously you need to give your head a wobble and learn about football! I bet you weren't complaining when they became the champions of europe a few months ago!

Agree2 Disagree0

Totally agree ethAVFC. the above you comment needs to watch football and learn the game properly!
Azza

Agree3 Disagree0

To condemn a whole generation of players off the back of one result is absolutely ridiculous
Clearly you have not been watching football long enough. If you had, you would know that players, Eevn Messi and Ronaldo, can be inconsistent and young players particularly so
