Villa pulling the plug on the luna deal! {Ed002's Note - Actually the deal is all but done.}

Believable3 Unbelievable9

A that's just why it's been confirmed then mate?

Agree6 Disagree0

Deal is proper done now

Agree6 Disagree0

Shame because he's awful! bennetts much better and that's saying something.

Agree4 Disagree6

Haha!
He was given an extra 24 hours to fly home and see his family to discuss the move.
The deal has now been completed, 3 year deal.

Agree3 Disagree0

Blimey, I hope the guy who said he is worse than Bennett has got his wires crossed.
The mere suggestion that we could have signed a fullback worse than Joe will keep me awake at night!
Mendax

Agree0 Disagree1

Apparently he's average but it will get consistency out of him or joe Bennett and even Clark or baker can play out there.

Agree2 Disagree0

Yea he's not great I expect him and benett to play an equal amount of games this season.

Agree2 Disagree1

If this is correct, you have to ask "what is the point in signing him"
We already have cover in the form of Stevens
I felt more comfortable with Lichaj playing than with either of those two. So, if Luna is no better, we have effectively lowered the quality at left back as Lichaj has now left. Ohh, and we're 2 million quid down
I'm scratching my head on this one I have to say
Mendax

Agree2 Disagree3

Everyone slating on this guy and he hasn't even played a match for us yet. I doubt many were watching him for Mallorca last season so at least give him a chance to show how good he is.

Agree8 Disagree0

Fickle doesn't even cover these comments, the lad hasn't played yet. The Spanish league is not as hard / tough as the premier which may suit him better.

Bennett will be 100% better next season, it was huge step up for the lad and at his age he will still getting used to his surroundings. Also as someone already mentioned he may be used as left winger as he can deliver.

Agree2 Disagree0

I have to say I have never seen him play so have no knowledge whatsoever
I am assuming the people on here who have offered an opinion have submitted an honest one (but hopefully not accurate)
I even contacted relatives I have in Madrid to see if they had any insight on the player but they offered little
Anyway, the point is it's not "fickle" to express a negative opinion about Bennett or concern about a player you have only seen a little of and were unconvinced by.
We recognise the good or great players (Benteke) by comparison with the poor ones (Heskey)
It's a fact of life I'm afraid
Anyway, let's all hope Luna is a world beater and that anyone who expressed a negative word will soon be eating them. As Villa fans I am sure they will all be happy to do so
Mendax

Agree1 Disagree0

Give the lad a chance, wish fans would stop saying fickle because someone has a different opinion.

Agree3 Disagree1

A lot of opinions, but let's be honest, none of us have really followed the guy. Hs about as unknown as Bacunda, Helenius and Tonev.

Lets see what he's capable of before slating him.

Agree2 Disagree0

My housemate is a mallorca fan so iv become accustomed to watching a lot of their games last season. Luna didn't look all that great and dare I say it hutton was the best full back mallorca had!
However he's young and will only get better. He'll get my support if he works his socks off.

As for the rest of mallorcas squad I think their dmc Pina who is being linked with a lot of teams in spain for £4m and even gio dos santos would add something to the team.

Looks like Holman is way to Al Nasr Club in the UAE pro league. Hopefully he will command some sort of fee for re-investment, seems a likable enough kinda of pro but tired to quickly.

Believable6 Unbelievable3

Looks like only £750k
However getting his £30k wages of the bill is a bonus.

Agree2 Disagree2

What you on about, the guy never stops running and hustling for the ball and in the early part of the season was an example to the younger players. Unfortunately he doesn't suit Lamberts style of play but will do somebody a good job. Well done Lambo with the early transfer activety now time to get rid of the dead wood and high earners so we can complete some further signings and I guess there would be 1 big surprise transfer still up his sleeve.

Agree4 Disagree3

No, what are you on about! He started 16 league games, and whilst I agree he generally worked hard, he was substituted in 11 of the 16 games as he was absolutely knackered (i. e. he tired to quickly!). When he came off the bench in games later in the season, he was completely off the pace/out of his depth as the team had moved on from his limited ability, and looked completely disinterested.

Agree8 Disagree1

Holman would never have been on 30k a week! 20k tops an that's pushing it.

He was a workhorse but lacked substance.

>Scg87

Agree11 Disagree0

Fitness was a big problem, he did do a lot of running and pressing no doubt but sylla does that and manages to last 90 mins! He would've been good had he been given the time to develop to the pace of the game and get half a brain in his head. He was a lot like a headless chicken really, little bit mental and too much of a risk i'd say! Will be a great player for somebody though.

The following look set to leave villa this summer

Given
Bent
N'zogbia
Ireland
Hutton
Bannan
Holman
KEA

depending on how many can be offloaded villa may reenter the market near the end of the window

Believable11 Unbelievable2

I can't see all of them leaving. Hutton, Dunne, Given and Ireland are the certainties

Agree7 Disagree4

Yeh that's just about a 'Given'. Would like to see Nzogbia stay tho, did well towards end of the season when he was given a run.

Agree5 Disagree1

Kea is staying, not a high earner and didn't have a full season due to injury and the African cup of nations.

Agree6 Disagree1

I'd like us to keep N'Zogbia, he has shown glimpses of his full potential but he just needs a proper run of games.

Agree7 Disagree2

Holman on his way to Al-Nasr for a rumoured £3m

Agree4 Disagree2

More like £1m at most.

Agree7 Disagree2

N'Zogbia won't leave now he has been ruled out through injury till mid September.

Agree4 Disagree0

KEA looked the part in the second half against United, Petrov was not that great in his first season

I've heard from reputable sources that yossi benayoun and Sebastian squillaci are high on Paul lamberts wish list with his need for experience increasing following the departure of Richard dunne villa are in need of a cb

Believable2 Unbelievable10

Yeah that would be great. It was scary last season when the kids escaped relegation. Some experience and we'll be a top side again.

Agree2 Disagree7

Bennayoun won't come villa won't pay his wages

Squillaci is a flop why would villa want him

Lambert has said before just because he's buying young doesn't mean he's not buying experience all the players have a 100 plus league games under their belts and international caps so they have experience with Okore and Helenius having Champs league experience

Agree7 Disagree2

Wouldnt want either of them the defenders rubbish and yossi is past his best

Agree8 Disagree1

If he wants experience why not try keisuke Honda heard last night during the Italy and japan game he is a free agent I would rather pay his wages than irelands

Agree8 Disagree1

Players Villa are bringing in have Europa League & CL experience. They aren't players from lower leagues much anymore.

Agree9 Disagree0

Squillaci is terrible! He made more mistakes than Bennett last season, he's one of the worst defenders I've ever seen in the prem.

Yes it would be great if we can add 2 players with more experience, but there's no point in adding experience if there worse than the players we currently have, when fans talk of needing experience, we're thinking
a long the lines of Lescott, Parker etc, players who guarentee their performances.

Benayoun is 33, he's not good enough anymore, so not gunna happen.

>Scg87

Agree12 Disagree0

Guaranteed a performance out of Lescott? He was awful last season for Man City and was rightly dropped.

While he would add some additional quality to our team I have doubt sover his consistency.

Agree2 Disagree10

I don't think we need Lescott, overall & in the future - Okore can be so much better!

Agree5 Disagree6

Lescott wasn't that bad last season. For some reason he was dropped from game 1, never made sense to me why Mancini replaced him with nastasic who was poor most times I saw him an average the rest of the time

Agree9 Disagree0

Nastasic had a superb season, so I don't know what you were watching! he cleared up from Kompany's early mistakes easily. Lescott just doesn't cut the cloth at Citeh

Agree0 Disagree8

Benayoun can score goals though and that is important also squillaci just had an injury hit time at arsenal he's not that bad

Agree0 Disagree8

Sorry but squillaci made some shocking mistakes, the type of mistakes that can't be blamed on injuries, he's poor.

That's what cheeses me off about the "top clubs" eg arsenal they'd prefer to waste £5m ish on a foreign player rather than playing the likes of Bartley or the Hoyte brothers who are/were no worse than squillaci.
