Agree guys, a centre half is an absolute must, Lescott has one year left at Tesco's I think he will come, the lad at Celtic will fit in as well. Right back needed guys, if we can get someone of Amavi's quality we will be tight at the back and have so many attacking options going forward we could well be the surprise package of EPL. Need these Achilles heel positions plugged and would take Joleon in a heartbeat.

think today shows that we still have problems in defence and I'm not sure whether Micah is the answer for CB. he is strong and good in the air but he has the attacking mentality of a full back which leaves holes in our defence. wouldn't mind seeing villa going for someone like berra(ipswich) or van dijk(celtic)
thoughts???

Watched van dijk today playing in the 2-0 win. looked class. commanding, organized. an very good on the ball. Would live to see him a VP.

Got hit by a bus, hit by a bus.
Julian lescot got hit by a bus.

Would go all out for him, but will miss singing his song!!

Agree schmitts, Put Richards at right back and go for Lescott
or van dijk.
Ed you would know more about our chances of getting him ???

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I can't help you with Lescott but as for Van Dijk, he could be leaving Celtic but nothing will be done before their European qualifiers are over and Celtic are hoping that CL qualification might sway the big Dutchman, who they value at £10 million, into staying another year. I'm not aware of any Villa interest in him, Southampton and Arsenal were tracking him, Man Utd had a fleeting interest but seen him as a back-up player which VVD wasn't interested in and both them and Arsenal moved on. Recently Everton and Newcastle have been linked with the player but if he leaves Glasgow I still see Southampton as his most probable destination.}

Thanks Ed.
I suppose the Koeman factor would be the deciding factor.
Shame he would fit the bill perfectly.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I think you're right about Koeman being there but anything can happen in the next month.}

02 Aug 2015 01:04:30
I also watched the Celtic opener and yes Van Dijk looks impressive but we need to be real,SPL is in my opinion championship at best quality,yes they find jems every now and then but better than Baker I suppose ATM ,so buy him as a back up would be option,considering Baker signed Friday new deal (bit surprised) but warrior at heart and no fear but liability and offered new deal,TS must see something we don't off field,we just see (costly) mistakes,on his day is a beast,and right coaches he can be a awesome,butt few and far between,he needs long run in team to be good,bring off bench 80 min I will be digging own grave each time

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - So Villa wouldn't be a better team with Fraser Forster and Wanyama? Joe Ledley, Ki-Sung Yeung and Adam Matthews would all have got in the Villa team last season.
When you're sitting clinging on at the arse end of the everything that's wrong with football league you've got a cheek looking down you're nose at anyone.}

02 Aug 2015 11:04:14
Last season ED007 yes Micky mouse would of got in villa 11,just saying we should be trying to test resolves of the likes of Stoke with Shawcross etc etc,I don't look my nose down at anyone and if Celtic was in prem it would prob be mid table team at best,so my opinion was/is Van DIjk really that good and will he improve us further !! If so great we only want the best for our club don't WE

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't think the likes of Shawcross is an improvement on VVD, outwith the Top 6 VVD would walk into any other team in England. How often do you watch the SPFL?}

02 Aug 2015 11:05:11
I completely agree with you ed. SPL maybe not the best league in the world but the french top division isn't either, yet we seem to be doing all our shopping there.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Cheers for that, Fordy, we know our league isn't the best but if you watch it regularly the games are always tough and hard fought matches and the standard isn't much worse than a lot of EPL games if you stripped away Sly TV's razzamattaz and slutty make-up.
How many boring and monotonous 0-0 wins did Sly show from the EPL last year? I follow Man Utd in England and their match against Hull last season was one of the worst games I watched from ANY league last year let alone the supposed 'best league in the world'.}

02 Aug 2015 16:29:13
I totally agree with you here ed.
If you look at it in a different way, the defenders in these 'lesser' leagues as do the goal keepers, get more of a constant work out, as the attacking players in these leagues what they lack in ability they make up in grit and strength.

What I'm trying to say is, the ability to save, read a game, mark a player technically is the same, add to this the need to take a 'knock' and to be aware of the more physical side of things, in my opinion these guys are worth a shout.

I'm sure that made no sense! But I know what I mean!!

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2015 21:44:10
If this is that defender who picked the ball up in defence, ran through the entire opposition team and scored then I think he could do a job for us :)

Doesn't matter about the club or the league the player is in, the job of the scouts is to pick out the players with the required quality - I wouldn't call Genk a good club playing in a top league, but they gave us Benteke.

Will be happy if this happens. A couple of people have tweeted that we're in for Michael Dawson from Hull. I've always liked him. £2m which makes me think it can't be true as he's worth more than that. I thought he was decent at Spurs and John Terry would be crap alongside El mohamedy and Alex Bruce.

I like dawson,realy good at spurs,i'd go for ryan shawcross,although i don't think stoke would sell him on thd cheap

Amavi for me

Amavi is going to be class,what I've watched pre-season and hopes for future 👍 as soon as I did my dream team he was first weeks ago,problem is expect poaching from the top teams in BPL and Europe to come sniffing next summer it's just the way it is these days until we become a force again 😀

I watched gueye at Walsall. And I know it's only Walsall but he looked sharp and broke up almost every play that Walsall put together. He was busy and looked the part one minute breaking up the play and then next minute having a shot from the edge of the box. I think Veretout will be great tho. Ridiculous amount of assists last season in France. What is great is that we all have different opinions which must mean we've bought some quality for a change.

01 Aug 2015 12:57:42
So is it ade or berba we will sign?! Surely not both.

Just a decent attacking right back needed now and I think this could be a great season for villa.

Anyone got any news on outgoings? Need to get cissokho, n'zogbia and senderos off the books for sure. Hopefully tonev as well.

All this activity has been great! Genuinely think we could be a force this season. Looking forward to seeing gestede, apart from what I've read, don't know too much about him.

Don't want adebayor and berba.one or other. Embolo, soriano and townsend please tim :-)

Not that i'm complaining, but surely that's the benkete an delph money spent now. is randy funding these moves or have I miss something.

I said ages ago Villa wouldn't spend more that £10m on a player, (officially I'm still right 😁) BUT I am very suprised by how much we have spent in total.

I genuinely thought the money was only going to be £30-£35m in total and about 5 players coming in but I am so happy I'm wrong.

Whoever is funding these transfers, is making us very happy Villa fans.

I hope it's new buyers, but if it's Randy we all need to show him some praise.
He obviously still cares about the club!

Let's remember the enhanced tv money. From 45 mil to 90. Which is why many teams are spending.

Agree0 Disagree1

01 Aug 2015 11:55:34
£39,600,000 spent.

£40,500,000 sold. (Minus the sell on fees whatever they are)

Not my calculations, found elsewhere.

Enhanced TV revenue's don't come into effect till 2016/17 :)

01 Aug 2015 11:56:26
I think it works out to about £7m being left to spend after all sales. Also i think the enhanced TV money comes into affect at the end of the season

01 Aug 2015 13:37:13
£7m left after all the business we've done. Happy days!
Praet for £7m, job done!

Other rumour I've heard is that loan deal for adebayor is held up over RL and TF not overly keen on him and player = games for the season, maybe a bit of boardroom wrangling going on between TS and RL first time

Believable0 Unbelievable1

01 Aug 2015 09:47:50
I've heard it's Daniel levy holding up the deal, which is more likely as he's known to get the best deal for him

Just heard on the news that again there are hold ups and chaos around the Euro tunnel at Calais. This is apparently due to all of Tim Sheerwood's European signings trying to clear customs before start of PL!!!!

Ashley Young guys, he's coming back.

Personally I would take him, on his day he is brilliant.

I have died and gone to heaven because our spending ain't stopping, Joleon from Tesco's, and another right back and we are PREPARED.

I can't see that happening TBH under LVG his Man U days re-ignited and hugely stated by LVG himself he was to keep speed,creativity,skill in his squad,why would they sell one of last seasons consistent performers :)

I heard he will go to LFC on £110k per week and makes sense with CB up front need the service, can't see him coming back to us unless we have a new owner in waiting who will pay those wages?
