Listening to a sports reporter on talk sport this afternoon and apparently Villa were offered a loan deal for Gareth Barry as does not figure week in week out in Pellegrini's plans but as its a World Cup year wanted to offer him a way to play. Lambert refused the option and stated that 24 is the maximum age bracket villa will sign a player.

So glad he isn't coming back as he would add nothing to our team. his form was awful last year and at 32 is WAY past his peak

Andykaff.

I don`t believe the 24 bit.
There are plenty of players who are over 24 that PL would snap up if he felt that player would improve the squad.

If the price was right, and the wages fell within the clubs budget, 25, 26, 27, would not be an issue.

If they are going to improve our club I don`t give a toss how old he is.

I'm with Dave. This age limit nonsense is an invention of the press
I cannot believe that Lambert would be so blinkered in his thinking
How old are Messi and Ronaldo now
Do you think we could squeeze them in somewhere?

Agree10 Disagree4

We signed Vlaar, Guzan and el ahmadi last year all of whom were well over 24!

Agree4 Disagree3

They were ALL 26 actually

Agree7 Disagree0

Guzan was hardly a new signing although I know his contract had run out and lambert re signed him and el ahmadi is rubbish so i'm happy he's not over paying for these useless premier league players like barry or parker etc. i'm happy with all the signing we have made completely trust lambert to bring in another great player and top half finish

Agree1 Disagree6

Mendax
PL and co are trying to run club like any business. Signing a player over 24 on a 4 year contract is not good business practice due to resale value decreasing.
Also hear no more signing this summer, have money available for CAM but PL believes Tonev can do role or Zoggy when he is back and if needed and options don't work will look to add in Jan like last year to give instant impact and improvements like Westwood and Sylla did.

Agree1 Disagree1

Westwood wasn't a january signing?

Agree1 Disagree2

Yacouba Sylla is out for the Gunners match with a twisted ankle.

Agree4 Disagree2

So I take it you have Paul Lamberts ear on this + 24 year old player embargo?
You're are reading too many red tops mate

Agree1 Disagree1

Sylla was our only January addition

Agree3 Disagree1

Why would you disagree with my comment? Westwood was signed last august, therefore he was not a january signing

Agree2 Disagree1

Agreed ethAVFC, some people just disagree for the fun of it mate, I dunno how 8 people disagreed with me when I said barry is way past peak and played awful last season?

Agree3 Disagree2

Er they disagreed cus Barry did not play awfull last season, most City fans would say he's the only one who could hold his head high an say he done his job last season, he was still good and although I agree he's past his best he'd still be the best mid for us, he'd make all the difference in our midfield.

So according to press reports Palace will pay only 40k of Bents wages take him on loan and buy him only if he keeps them up?!

Sounds like something to flat out reject
QPR get paid £2m for Remy on loan for a season, whilst we have to subsidise his wages. sounds too one sided, keep him loan him out perhaps for a couple of months and we will see in January (worst case scenario) whether people short of goals will pay.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

What do you expect from a club with Holloway as Manager. He valued Adams at many £m's. Where is he now? He moaned about clubs playing a weakend team to protect the regular players. He even moaned about Villa for some reason. Just trying to get his own back, sour grapes.

Agree2 Disagree0

We should not be pushed into letting Bent or any of the other "fringe" players go anywhere on loan unless the deal is good for the club. If he truly wants to play football in the hope of regaining his England place then less ambitious wage demands may help rather than deterring would be suitors. Ditto for the others on the wage front.

I have nothing against Bent and wish him well in a new club.

Someone will pay for him!

Just read on window watch on tv app that an arsenal scout was at PSV's opening league game supposedly analysing wijnaldum. I know he was never really linked to AVFC but he would have been terrific for us.

Agree1 Disagree1

Bent having medical at Fulham
