My Citeh mate says there are strong runours in Manchester that Delph failed his medical.
Sour grapes? Or a legacy of his old injuries?

I've seen this rumour floating about online, not sure how true, hope it isn't and that he just had a change of heart and realised he would be jeopardising his England place. Now we can move on, well chuffed kozak played and scored today, great to see him back in the claret and blue

{Ed007's Note - It sounds like sour grapes to me but I'll try and find out from Ed002 if there's any truth in it.}

Can't see how a regular player would fail a medical ( I suppose it's possible)
However, anyone else find it odd that Lerner was in town and he changed his mind?
Maybe Lerners had a word in his ear, hopefully good times around the corner for us fans with regards to a takeover

I read somewhere earlier that Delph changed his decision because of fan threats, I think this is just gutter press and I don't think that was his reason for staying as I suppose most players that leave a club receive a certain amount of unsavoury comments.

12 Jul 2015 09:04:22
I very much doubt that it would have been because of fan threats. If he was worried Citeh,s owners could afford bodyguard for him! As for the comment "cant see how regular players would fail a medical", if that were the case, why would clubs spend so much money and effort putting players through them if there were no chance of failing them?

I think we should just take it at face value that FB looked at his options including money, playing time, England prospects etc: Weighed all that up against leaving a club he likes and is respected as a player, (and maybe knows there are brighter days ahead for us), and chose to stay.

Well done him because you can be sure the advice from agents would have been to leave. I am delighted he is staying, we were definitely a better team when he was playing last season.

1st time poster, give Delph more money, scrap any buy out clause, build team around him, Richards, Clark, Guzan (not getting credit he deserves, form is temporary, class/desire is permanent) Grealish, Tekkers or Austin, good spine of team, thinking of probable buys for other positions, waiting for takeover 1st. What does everybody think?

Great to see Libor Kozak on the score sheet be it just a friendly defeat! He has such a torrid long journey back let's hope will be the start of something positive for player and club!

Absolutely chuffed that Delph is staying. I will eat a piece of that humble pie. I do think he'll only be staying this year as he knows he'll have to be a regular to stay in the England side for the Euros but credit where it's due. He could have just took the money. Fair play Fabian. Now that's the sort of guy I want wearing the captains armband. Let's build a team around him this summer so that we can have a decent season and make it even harder for him to leave.

If delph is staying then something BIG is going down.roll on next week!

11 Jul 2015 21:32:25
I'm glad he is staying too but if you think he is only going to be here until next season why should we build a team around him. What's the point if he goes before the side is even finished. Better off building a team where any player can leave and there is quality cover for the position.

With reports saying Delph is staying now is it likely to be still the case that he will have the 8 mil buyout clause - or would it be a dynamic thing and increase if he chooses not to leave is season?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Jul 2015 17:03:49
Wouldn't surprise me if he's offered fresh terms woth the buy out either removed or increased

Great news again feeds into new owner due soon where wages, new players and optimism will be a reality. Must have been part of negotiations whilst staying behind from Portugal!!

11 Jul 2015 20:51:53
He stayed behind because his wife is expecting. Glad he staying.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 21:30:11
Again I don't want to sound a killjoy but he is not loyal - he considered going to City. We heard the rumours that he spoke to Micah Richards and from what I heard he wanted a low buyout clause at City as an escape route - probably from the advice Richards gave him. They wouldn't play ball so he didn't sign for them.

Agree0 Disagree2

12 Jul 2015 20:30:19
I have to agree. He was off, failed the medical and is now staying.

To be fair though, he did sign a new contract in Jan with a buy out clause would have given us Β£8m instead of nothing had he let the contract run down. So I think he gets credit for that.

I don't think anyone can really expect a player to turn down a massive pay rise, even if it means bench time.

This is something to put behind us all now and look forward to next month.

A final note. This tale, and others like it, should make players wary of the actions they take on the road to a new club. Can you image the situation for Sterling should his move to Man C also fall through. By comparison, the actions by FD are positively upfront and honest.

Delph staying, phew !!

Well done son, was feeling low yesterday with the news he was off to citeh,

Good lad, stay with us and be a legend for the biggest and most original club in England.

Don't know what stopped him if it was a medical because I was told we have changed how he trains because of his knees but all I know it was a no brainier staying at a club where he is loved and could be a legend like Paul McGrath just think he is not good enough for a top four club great player but just not there yet what do you lot think ?????

Well our midfield is starting to look pretty strong if you ask me. Delph, gueye, Westwood, Sanchez, Sinclair, nzogbia hopfully add Townsend. To be fair boys that looks pretty decent. A good balance between ball winners attacking and holding midfielders as well as some decent passers of the ball. Sign amavi and another CB keep Big Ben and i would be happy

11 Jul 2015 16:49:45
Well I must eat humble pie but am glad to do so FD to remain at the villa hopefully tekers does the same and with the new TS signings we will be flyin up the prem hope they still go for chery n embolo

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You better pass that pie around because I think there's a few on here needing a large slice of it :)

11 Jul 2015 17:16:45
I will have a slice. but to have both delph and gueye in the heart of our midfield I'm buzzing. Happy to keep Guzan in goal most of the goals we conceded last season was due to terrible defending. A poor defence can make any goalkeeper look poor. I think we need to seal the amavi deal and if tekkers goes get in a replacement. Possible Austin. Oh and Townsend. I would be a happy man then.

Fantastic news about Delph, still cannot believe that he would change his mind so late in the day, makes me wonder if Delph as perhaps been told something about the takeover, when it looked a done deal and a big money move for Delph and then to pull out at the last moment I can only assume that something major changed his mind.

Very happy with the news regarding Delph. I wouldn't be surprised if he has been advised against a move by Richards and Sinclair, also would not be surprised if he has spoken to Mr.Hodgson regarding his Euro 2016 chances with restricted game time at City.

Been told an announcement to press is 14/7
Apparently staff at meeting where told all jobs through out vp are safe.
I'm hoping the announcement will be a certain Mr Ellison. But I'm also hearing that that fell through, and that Mr Lerner may be now staying.

I hope this is duff info, and I'm just passing on

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Jul 2015 17:25:54
Flackie do u work at VP? Or is it someone you know?

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 17:36:51
I don't think that anyone who does not need to know actually knows anything about the takeover and surely if Lerner was staying he would of announced it by now having no reason not to. I think the buyers identity is based on individual guess work and the that the best thing to do is wait and see instead of starting discussions based on speculation.

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - You want people on a rumours site to stop speculating? I can't see Ed001 being too happy with that - it's kind of the point of the site mate.}

11 Jul 2015 23:17:59
Danny, no I don't work at vp! Although I wish I did, but I do have a very good friend who works in the press office.
Over the past view years 90% of info passed from her has been true.
Joker I also clearly say that what I was saying was told to me, don't shoot the messenger! And I hope your right, that if that was the case it would be common knowledge!

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2015 10:36:30
Flackie I wasn't having a dig at you mate. It's easy to misinterpret what people are writing in here I was simply asking if you worked at VP as it sounded like you did with the way you said the meeting was called.

I think we need to be logical with regards to Delph. Personally I'm gutted he has left, thank him for what he did for the villa last year, and the season before, and hope he plays, and grows with the standard of players he will be with. He shone at villa, looked at times a world beater, one of two things will happen, he will stay as he is, sink at the challenge of being a small fish in every big pond, or, and I hope and actually think that it will be this, that he will keep getting better, improve to the standard he is now playing with, and rule the England midfield.
As regards to his buy out, leaving after signing his new contract, and loyalty?!!
I think we should pat him on back, and thank him for what he has done. He would be leaving for zero, yet because of what the club did for him, stood by him, he stayed, with a buy out, so both the club, and player benefit. Intelligent, unique and fair. I think he meant his speech, and wish him well.
Someone has offered to probably double his pay, play in champions league, and let's be honesty win a trophy so he can hold his head high. He has done nothing no one who is on this page wouldn't of done. And we support the villa, he is from Bradford, and is a Leeds fan!

Thank you Fabian, as with out you we would be a championship side. Good luck, and I will applaud you when you come back to vp.

AlfreΓ° Finnbogason is clearly to leave Real Sociedad on loan for next season, according to what I read. I think that it would be great if Villa signed him, as he has an eye for goal.

Been watching the news unfold about Delph and got to say I think it's such a terrible shame and waste, I think it goes to show that footballers behave like MP's nowadays can't trust a word that comes out of their mouth! I think he made it worse we all the "villa is my club " " we want bigger and better things" speech !! But his not irreplaceable and will look like a very small fish in a big man city pond! And will end up on the bench as we have seen before with Milner and Barry! I think the fact Benteke is away in Portugal training with the lads is a good sign? And I hope he stays even if it's just 1 more season think we are owed a little loyalty as villa fans? On the upside another 2 new signings might not be Ronaldo or messi but some decent players in the team just got to get them working better together ! UTV

Think this is a big mistake for Delph he isn't as good as everyone was saying yea ok he looked good for a season in a poor team one of the worst teams I've seen down at villa what a waste for the lad could of made this move in another two years but now his career is over look what happened to Rodwell now his stuck up at Sunderland and who would wanna be up there πŸ˜‚
