What should Bruce do Tuesday? Rest davis for Friday? Or does he carry on playing players in form to give them confidence? Personally I'd rest davis, green and hourihane. But then what does he do Friday if Hogan comes in Tuesday, scores a couple and has a good game?

Rich_avfc

1.) 20 Aug 2017 16:38:36
Never!
We need momentum, and the winning habit.

They are fit pros, 2 weeks into a season! Rest?

2.) 20 Aug 2017 16:56:27
No changes for Tuesday for me,
Let's get a settled side who get used to playing with each other.
Don't like all this pissing about with resting players,

3.) 20 Aug 2017 17:00:27
I know what your saying but I'm saying rest them as in not play them to risk them getting injured in a non important cup game. We have had an injury in every game so far. And 3 games in 6 days is a bit intense.

4.) 20 Aug 2017 17:09:54
You can't plan a season on risking not getting injured.
What about a settled team, winning and used to playing together?
We need a style, and an 11 that are the team. We need a squad that can fill spaces when needed through necessity not fear and superstition.

Winning like losing is a habit, and it's addictive, those players have earned that shirt now. What does it say to them to take from them?
Let's say we swap teams around, and the players on Tuesday batter Wigan.
Then what?
Drop them for sats team, or keep them?
Either way, a split unhappy dressing room.

We should keep the beliefs that you WIN the shirt. You earn the right to keep it buying playing well, and lose it by playing siht.
You can't lose the shirt by winning a game and playing well.

5.) 20 Aug 2017 17:22:14
* by playing well
(Note to self, read before posting! )

6.) 20 Aug 2017 17:22:41
Yes that's basically the question I was asking. What does Bruce do if he drops davis for Tuesday and Hogan scores a couple. What does he do for Wednesday? I think Bruce will make changes for tuesday. Whether we agree or not. For me davis hourihane green and bree (as hutton isn't playing well) must start on friday.

7.) 20 Aug 2017 17:35:34
*Friday not wednesday. That would be a bit too much to ask!

8.) 20 Aug 2017 17:51:50
I think now, more than ever, changes he makes should be through necessity.
1) suspension
2) injury
3) form

If we are resting now, 2 weeks into a season, with an international break around the corner, then we don't deserve to plan on winning anything.

We have got to go with the intention of players winning the shirt, and by that same reckoning players lose the shirt.

Are you really saying that the three players you mention need resting?
They haven't been in the team. Tired after one game?

If we only pick players on form, the team knows that everyone there is playing because they deserve it. Not because they have a reputation.
It levels the playing field for the whole squad, and by that same reason, should lift standards and moral.

9.) 20 Aug 2017 18:16:42
I'm not saying I'd rest them because they are tired no. I'm saying I'd rest them because I want them fit for friday. Davis played Monday, Saturday, if he's not dropped then Tuesday and Friday as Well. I agree with what u are saying and when we are well into the season and not playing 3 games in a week then yes, stick with the same team get momentum and don't change a winning side. I get all that. But when players are not 100% match fit as it's early in the season, playing 3 games in 6 days does bring fatigue. And when they are fatigued that brings niggling little injurys. All i'm saying is that i want green hourihane and davis starting friday. And i can pretty much guarentee if fit Tuesday's game will include Bjarnason steer samba Hogan adomah ohare and Dr laet. I'd be surprised if Bruce didn't make changes.

10.) 20 Aug 2017 18:57:07
I hope your wrong, I'd start the team that won on sat.
Win the game early on Tuesday. then make the changes to rest.

11.) 20 Aug 2017 19:49:00
Think Bruce has already said he's changing things and using a mixture of youth and experience, agree fully that we need to keep the same team as Saturday but with Bree over Hutton.

12.) 20 Aug 2017 22:13:24
Play the same team from saturday, change 1 player Bree for Hutton, when we are out of sight of Wigan make subs to rest the team, introduce more kids to the team.

13.) 21 Aug 2017 08:41:32
Keep the same team for Tuesday,
Players get injured in training so I don't see the benefit of changing them
Keep the winning momentum going,

Is anyone else worried that we havnt got anyone who will score a goal Saturday? It's all down to gabby.

Rich_avfc

1.) 17 Aug 2017 19:17:56
Fear not Rich_, bruce has stated we need at least 1 striker, so we're going for colback from newcastle and snodgrass from west ham, job done!

2.) 18 Aug 2017 09:49:01
I can see it being a close one on Saturday. We're at home (which could make or break the players confidence), Norwich will attack and keep the ball high up the pitch, and play through the middle. This might play into our hands at home, as we play wide and sit deeper.

A lack of goalscorer might be a problem, but if Hourihane has his shooting boots on now it would really help. Can possibly see the Villa scoring from a set piece, Norwich getting one back and a naff goal from Gabby to save us (and Steve for another week) .

3.) 18 Aug 2017 10:43:08
Only plus point for tomorrow is the possible return of Jedi.
We have more of a chance of winning with him in side but only just!
It will be a close thing,
Whoever scores first is a massive factor,
If we score first then Bruce will park the bus and make it horrible viewing,
If Norwich score first we will leave more gaps at back for Norwich to score more goals,
Not going to predict a score but all I will say is keep your fingers tightly crossed.

Does anyone know if Dale Stephens has signed a new contract with Brighton? If he hasn't then I'm sure he is available on a free. If their no1 gk has left to sign for a pants club like blues in the weirdest transfer ever then surely a club like ours could temp him. And let's be honest we would probs be able to double what he's on at Brighton. Obviously depends on how much he wants to play in the prem I suppose.

Rich_avfc

{Ed007's Note - Stephens signed a new deal at Brighton last month taking him up to 2021.}

1.) 23 Jun 2017 17:31:51
Cheers Ed. Il shut up then.

{Ed007's Note - B+ for effort though, Rich.}

If the 4 'quality' signings Bruce made this summer were terry, Johnstone, boyd and whelan would everyone be happy?

Rich_avfc

1.) 18 Jun 2017 10:11:07
if we are now classing boyd and whelan as quality then we are really dropping our standards.

2.) 18 Jun 2017 12:27:56
Would still like to sign a better goal keeper.

3.) 18 Jun 2017 16:02:24
Agree about Johnson not good enough for me,
Janapoic from Hull would be my choice,
Excuse the spelling of his name!
Also ruddy would be a good choice,
Terry I admire his quality and leadership but thinking about it not sure if he would fit?
I said about him in earlier post that he would be a great signing but not so sure now,
36yr on 100 grand and now prone to injurys,
Whelan for me is no better than we have got plus another player wrong side of 30 plus,
Boyd could do well for us so I would go for him,
I am not thrilled by bruces type of players he wants but we have to give him a chance with his players he gets.

4.) 26 Jun 2017 14:46:44
I agree on Ruddy, and he is on a free right now. The other players I would like to be signed are Ledley, Hanley and Borini.

Bacuna, Elphick, Steer, McCormack, Richards, Amavi, Sánchez, Gil and Veretout are the players that I think should be sold.
I don't rate Johnstone at all, so he should go back to his club.

It's not the dr's fault. He's come from China, not knowing the game, appointed a manager who had won the champions league, didn't work out so rightly got rid. Appointed the most successful championship manager ever who months before was linked with the England job. No-one on here was moaning when we bought McCormack. He also has a proven record. Hogan was doing well when we bought him. I still think Hogan will cone good. He looks sharp. Just needs a goal. We have to get behind bruce. History shows he knows how to get out of this league. Admittedly I disagree with a few of his decisions like starting bacuna when hourihane is on the bench! But what manager would everyone agree with 100% of the time? As for FFP there is one thing that worries me slightly. I read somewhere that if an owner pays out of their own money, no the club revenue, it doesn't affect FFP. So maybe Tony isn't as rich as we think. Or maybe he doesn't want to plough his own person fortune into players which is fair enough. Predicting Bruce to play a strong side tonight to get a win and a bit of confidence. Also I hope he does as I only need villa and Leeds in an acca for £158. Haha. UTV.

I don't really care how exciting or entertaining the football is atm. We need results. When we went on that 8 wins in 9 games we didn't play that we'll then. But so what. I couldn't care if we scrape every game 1-0 next year and the goal comes off kodjias left testicle. This division is like quick sand and every year a big club like ours is stuck in it you sink a bit deeper. Look at forest Blackburn and Leeds. We don't want to be another one of those. Steve Bruce has the best record of getting out of here so we need to stick with him. She knows what he's doing. UTV.

Are u forgetting all the teams between villa and Sheffield Wednesday? They aren't all going to lose all their games.

Why pantilimon? Always been a number 2 which tells you something. Surely there's someone better out there for a club of our size.

Can't see why he wouldn't start amavi. He is quick and has a good delivery. Surely that left wing position would be ideal for him? Doesn't have to worry too much about defending just get down the wing and get the ball in.
