I really liked Sherwood, he has passion and is generally a funny guy. I can see why the players got a bit of a bounce from him coming in. However, I don't think he is anymore tactically astute than SB, and seemed to be making the same mistakes. I remember being really worried about Villa in his last season (now justified) where we were having kinda similar results to what we have now.

Maybe he'd be better off in a coaching role, just to gee everyone up a bit?

As for the manager, I don't know if it will make any difference changing him. I get why people want SB out, but I just don't think it will help. It may be that we just click as a team at some point with it being so early on and go on a run. That's providing SB cheers up a bit, He already looks like he's been fired in his press conferences.

Sherwood wasn't able to bring his own transfers in and had to rely on what Randy's pet provided and had to cope with the loss of Delph and benteke. Give him a proper chance with his own signings and giving out youth a chance. ✌🏻.

Sherwood messed up against Leicester with his tactics, that's when it all went wrong, I'd hope he's learnt a lesson from that, No1 choice for me

UTV.

Maybe if SB goes, an interim contact for Sherwood or Pearson until EoS could be a shout. If we get promoted give them an extension, if not get a new guy.

I wouldn't mind Aitor Karanka myself, he had trouble with the players in the PL, but had Boro playing some good stuff in the Championship!

Hi all.

I've been passively reading the posts on this site for a year or so now and thought I might pitch in.

I'm not going to go into Villa's longstanding problems, as we know them all too well. I am a bit of a geek when it comes to statistics and tactics though.

Through last year and also especially noticeable during the Cardiff game we seem to have a problem in our defense.

Almost all of Cardiff's attacks were from the flanks (especially the left one) . This isn't helped by the fact that Hutton and Taylor are effectively positioned as Wing-backs, while Gabby, Elmo and Onomah cut in like no 10's. To make this light defense worse, Terry and Chester pushed a high line against two fast strikers, leaving them man-for-man high up the pitch.

Rather than continuing to bore everyone with the facts and rambling, I'm suggesting that if Bruce switches to his beloved 3-5-2 formation, it might actually suit us as a team this season. Giving us two strikers can only help in attack as well while Kodjia is out!

Sorry for the long first post, hopefully SB might be reading. UTV!

Oh, just to add to the above as well. If we play the same formation we did on Saturday, we will likely score a headed goal (we're bigger than Reading), but Reading will almost definitely score from wing-play. No idea about the result, maybe a draw or plucky win for Villa?

Reading 1 vs 2 Villa.

Villaman

If Hutton, gabby, and lansbury are not playing I will go a 2-1 win
If they are in a 2-0 defeat,
Was hoping to see o'hare in the team as well but not sure if Bruce is brave enough to play him.

Nòooooooo Villa Man.

It probably depends on how bad the results are. If we lose 0-3 to Norwich at Home, SB might not be here next week. If we win then stutter, he might be here till X-mas.

Yeah, I was at that game so I'll give TM that, it was a cracker.

I can see it being a close one on Saturday. We're at home (which could make or break the players confidence), Norwich will attack and keep the ball high up the pitch, and play through the middle. This might play into our hands at home, as we play wide and sit deeper.

A lack of goalscorer might be a problem, but if Hourihane has his shooting boots on now it would really help. Can possibly see the Villa scoring from a set piece, Norwich getting one back and a naff goal from Gabby to save us (and Steve for another week) .

Nobody would need to see me in a dress, it'd be like an uglier version of the Austrian who won Eurovision the other year.

I agree, I think that we should copy Fulham in terms of using a system where analytics and the managers opinion are both used before getting in transfers. We'd get more bang for buck, and have the money to make it work better than Fulham.

Well that's a load of bull for a start. Bruce has been in charge for 40 games, so that's 52 points last year and 1 this year. That is around £1.44million per point.

This season, Villa have spent around £2.5million on incoming players and have made around £10million (tranfer value only) . Technically Villa have made £7.5million per point this season.

Also, we spent around £76million last season, but made around £41million from selling players and loaning out players. That means we spend a net of £35million last season and made £7.5million this season, a net total of £27.5million spent. Therefore, £27.5million/ 52 = £528,846 per point, which is around double what Cardiff have spent.

Considering our troubles over the last few years, this isn't unreasonable. What I'm getting at is, it seems a lot of people are looking for problems that aren't there.

Big fan of statistically choosing players rather basing transfers on seeing how good they look.

Based on this, Ledley and Whelan are both bellow par for the premier league, even for the Championship they are poor. For a holding midfielder, I'd have went for Aron Gunnarson (Cardiff), Sam Hutchinson (Wednesday) or Jackson Irvine (Burton) myself.
