Aston villa's forgotten man, Stephen Ireland has begged for the opportunity to prove his worth and put his past behind him and knuckle down at aston villa. stephen said "I want to get my career back on track, it was only last year I was voted fans player of the year here, I think I coul succeed at astonvilla". Could it be too late for the former Irish international?

Simply put he is not fit to wear the shirt and HAS to go. His performance against Bradford in the home leg of the semi final last season was easily the laziest showing I have ever seen in over 30 years at Villa Park. He is nothing short of a disgrace and if anyone would actually pay his undeserved, over inflated wages then I would gladly drive him to them myself.

The only reason he says this is because no other club will offer him the bumper contract he has at Villa.

Finch

Personally, I think we should keep the lad on for the season, I think his contract expires in the summer, so you'll get very little for him now so may as well lose him on a free next summer. I've no idea if this rumour is true but at least give the lad a chance to prove he's worth a new contract and who knows he may rekindle his form from his City days. We keep saying that we need a CAM and we have one already who just needs to work on his attitude. I know he's on a lot but what is 60k a week to a top flight club, and remember there only expensive if they don't play well!

No chance stephen he's had enough time to prove himself. pure rubbish. love the way lambert is droppin all the dead wood at the club if he keeps it up we wil have a full squad of pretty good young talent and then things can only get better. if we can hold on to the playersss

What avfcjon? how do you work out that we may as well keep him now because someone will only pay a small amount of money and let him walk for "free" next season? that is nonsense surely a nominal fee will at least pay some off the money he has frankly done nothing to earn over the years he has been at Villa. I would say the way he has offered nothing but a poor attitude and blatant disregard for the history & heritage of OUR club yet still earnt probable millions is nothing short of "free"
Whilst I agree if a player does earn a huge wage but performs on the field we as fans choose to look the other way it makes it all the more noticeable when they have an attitude such as Ireland's.
The problem is that we have had too many players off his attitude and standing earning huge wages for doing nothing and I am glad that finally we have a manager in Paul Lambert that is trusting in hungry, talented youth who actually want to play for the club and is getting rid of the bad apples who poison the squad and thankful that Randy Lerner has supported him financially both in new recruits & keeping players who show spirit & pride on the field and are not more concerned in their pimped up ostentatious pink Bentley's & mock tudor mansions.
You are entitled to your opinion but the sooner we get rid of the players from our squad like "the lad" who has been given too many already the better in mine.

I'd take £2/3m quid, because with the wages we will save with him off the books PLUS the fee we'll have made a bit of income off him at least, where as if we keep him we're paying out more than half a million quid to make nothing in a year, which is a loss. Surely an income, be it ten thousand or ten million, is better than a loss. Agree with the above poster, paying the bents and irelands 60k a week to kick a ball around bodymoor with the youth team is about as effective as putting the tea lady on the same wages.

7.) 23 Jul 2013
I'll be the tea lady for £600 a week let alone 60k!

8.) 23 Jul 2013
Ireland's problem is not that he is the "forgotten man" at Villa. His problem is that we remember all too well (apart from avfcjon that is)
The fact that Ireland was voted player of the Year the year before last says more about the atrocious football of Mcleish than it does about Ireland who seemed to win the award for no other reason than he could trap a ball and pass it 5 yards. GET RID!

9.) 23 Jul 2013
True mendax, in fact you saying that makes the tea ladies 60k a week wages more justified now, as she probably came a close second that year.

10.) 24 Jul 2013
I see you're point guys, I'll readily admit that's he's underachieved. However, think about it we need a CAM and we're going to sell a proven Premier League player for very little who could fill the void. I know his wages are an issue but if we shift Given, Bent, Bannan etc. then we can afford to keep Ireland on. If he's true to his word then we could have the Stephen Ireland of 3/4 years ago, if not then we can attempt to get rid in January or release him next summer.

11.) 24 Jul 2013
Why are you calling yourself avfcjon Stephen Ireland? And stop posting on here saying how good you are!

12.) 24 Jul 2013
Nowhere near good enough
