Considering where we were as a club when we got relegated in 2016, the mess that was Tony Xia, our promotion and development as a club to where we are now in 8 years is nothing short of remarkable and whilst Emery deserves all the credit for the work he has done over the last 18 months, we shouldn't forget the foundations Dean Smith laid. If you look at the first team squad, and who Deano was responsible for signing, the likes of Martinez, Cash, Mings, Konsa, Luiz, Bailey, Buendia and Watkins that isn't a bad legacy, sure he got a few wrong but I would argue he got more right than wrong, he put us on the right track to enable Emery to take us to the next level and I for one will be grateful for the work he did and also for the fact he was one of our own. Deano is still fondly thought of by most Villa fans, his purchase s, in the main were positive. Unfortunately he was never going to take us to the next level.He hasn't fared that well since leaving us.Most wish him all the best for the future, a thoroughly decent guy.
