Ron Vlaar has reportedly put contract talks on hold with us to spend the summer working with disadvantaged children in India. Probably something to do with the takeover - I could see him wanting to wait and negotiate a new contract with the new owners in place once he has a clear vision of the direction the club is taking. If this is the case I don't blame him really, but if he leaves its not too big of a loss.

high guys I have written a few times I,m carbisbay just love the place well don,t you feel like me f-----g fed up reading how we are considering, thinking, offering stupid amts wasting valuble time then loosing our targets as we are so slow then other clubs sneek in and we loose out.we need to get these better players and stop f-----g about eg stoke keeper would most probably have been ours but for a childish offer letting chelski in that's not the only case so ts and yiou other so called directors of football grow up stop waisting our time either you want to start growing stronger or shall we fight once again for our lives my suggestion is sack the idiots and get Liverpool,s team responsible for new ins or do our lot seem worried about flying and buying they don,t let the grass grow do they identify and get em in carbisbay.

Carbisbay, To be honest mate I think more than half of the rumours and paper talk we are reading in the press at the moment is all rubbish anyway, papers have to fill spaces and sell papers hence the garbage.
The problem is we (Villa) have made a lot of big mistakes in the transfer market purchasing and selling players over the past decade, and the club do not want to be making the same mistakes again so I am sure they are going to be more careful and vigilant in their pursuit of players in future.
I have no doubt we will be making signings, maybe even as many as six for different positions all over the pitch, but I think a lot of this is all depending on Benteke`s stance.
More often than not the transfer market will go crazy when a couple of big money moves happen, and I think this is a very good example of stalemate at the moment.
We will be fine, and expect some very good unknowns to arrive, Think double dutch !!

Ruggers - I didn't mean he's doing charity work in India because the new owners are Indians or anything, my post isn't that clear. What I meant was he's using the fact that he is doing this charity project as a reason why he's delaying his contract talks, because he wants to discuss terms once the new owners are in place.

Hope that's a little clearer.

Carbisbay - would you rather Sherwood make lower offers for quality players like Begovic which will more than likely be turned down but you never know. OR would you rather he spend the funds he is raising from player sales (he clearly hasn't been sanctioned anything by the board yet.) on similar lower quality replacements?

I think Sherwood is doing a brilliant job this window. We have effectively traded Darren Bent for Micah Richards :) and the rumours circling are for a higher calibre of player than what we have sold.

He has got Ray Wilkins in as Assistant and Kevin MacDonald back working with the youth. Really what else can the man do to please you?

I agree, Andy. Good name btw ;) From one Andy to another.

I personally think Sherwood is doing the best he can with all that he has available to him. I was discussing with a friend this weekend, this possible begovic deal and we both came to the possible conclusion that we weren't really THAT interested in him, but we purposely but our names in the hate with a low bid to give Guzan a kick up the arse?
Who knows, certainly haven't been linked to usual has-beens and never heard ofs from the lower leagues, but I agree that most of what has been linked it probably total rubbish, engineered to sell papers and online blogs hit counters.

The other thing I cannot seem to get my head around, is this supposed Delph clause, if it was in there since Jan, why only mention it now? And even if it has ONLY just been found out. I think if it was factual, one of Man City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool would have met the release clause days ago. Delph for 10m is an absolute steal in the current market.
I also think that if all the above does turn out to be true, that Delph himself would really get hated after his "like brothers" comments and the praise he received countrywide for his loyalty.
Then again I don't think stuff like that actually matters in football does it?
I mean if you wanted to bring up a contradiction or lie that was told in football, you could make a living just off Harry Redknapp alone.

I mean really apart from the odd deal here and there and Brendan Rodgers buying literally everyone he possibly can, most of the clubs in the league especially the teams around us have done very little business either. So its nothing to be concerned about at this stage.

I agree with the Delph's clause bit fplmorg. I can't see it being that low. To me it sounds like a release clause put in so that he can leave on the cheap IF we are relegated, and the media have got it a bit wrong with the way they are reporting it.
