Just Hurd by a reliable source that Paul lamberts going to sign at least 6 new players with tonev charlie Austin aiden Mcgeady huddlestone Danny rose and Tom ince all on his hit list {Ed003's Note - I've heard similar about Austin.}

McGeady is lazy, Huddlestone & Rose don't fit what we want. Would rather have Murphy than Huddlestone.

By Tonev I assume you mean the bulgarian Winger? if so I can't see us signing more then one out and out wingers (him, Ince and McGeady as you suggest).

I think if we went for one of them and then possibily McManaman from Wigan who is more of a Weimann type wide player (looks to break into the middle at every opp) then I think that would make more sense.

Am a massive fan of Huddlestone and he would add extra quality on the ball into our midfield. However, with Westwood, Delph and Sylla already 'similar' type players i'm not too sure we need another player of that ilk. Ideally we need a midfielder who will play 20yds ahead of them them and closer to the strike force like Will Hughes / Jon Williams.

My hope Gary Gardner will become the player we all no he should be, should be better than all the players on the books, that's fact

Heitinga is a CB/RB, he's never played as a LB so there's no reason to compare him to Bennett.

Yes and no to that. Your right we do have fonz and bowery, but personally, I don't think bowery will ever be good enough he's not going to be prolific but he is fast. As for fonz, That's a tough one but I reckon he needs a proper chance just like weimann was given. As for Gayle, I have heard many high praises for him but It might be too early for him to make a impact, but who knows. We need to hit the ground running next season so let's wait and see.

Fonz doesn't fit the villa system, very similar to bent in that he plays off the last man.

Very possible that PL could go back in for Lazio's Versatile Right Back "Luis Cavanda" of Lazio. This would be seen as a replacement for outgoing Eric Lichaj. He hasn't featured that much this season and is in his last year of contract could be available for as little as £1.2 million. He has great stats for the his featured games and can play left back too. I reckon this is very plausible, I would believe a good few teams will be aware of his situation. He is also a Belgium international so it would make sense

Understand that Benteke's agent was completely taken aback by Benteke's comments. Also understand that Benteke and his agent have been in touch and a statement will be released soon, which will distance the player from comments made. "taken out of context" etc etc

Lescott should want to give himself the best possible chance of making the plane to Rio next year so he needs to be playing regularly to do so and would be gerat to see him down the Villa. However with Cahill, Smalling, Jones, Dawson, Caulker, Jagielka etc also competing he may not even be involved even if he is playing so he may go the other way and be happy to pick up his bigger wages and not play too much.

I think people would be amazed at some of the wages teams in the Prem do pay and I actually think there are a few teams outside of this seasons top four who would pay in excess of 40/50k; Spurs and Liverpool obv would. West Ham and Newcastle are paying big wages to players as do Fulham and Sunderland and Lescott would probably improve all of those teams.

He'll be closer to £4m than £7m.
I think he's a cheaper option to Bent but I think we can do better possibly.

I think Charlie Austin could be a good move to enhance the squad as if we are (hopefully) sticking with the 4-3-3 formation then we need extra cover for Benteke and Bowery (to a lessor extent) in the central spot (presuming Bent and Delfouneso leave).

Agree that anything over 4m would be a gambe so can't see PL going above that sum on he basis that if it doesn't work out and we move him on we don't take that much of a hit financialy

PL won't be allowed to spend more than £3mil on any player so it's the lower leagues again

If austin gets a move to prem u can bet it will be for a team that ends up going down

Good move I think. Should be reasonably priced (sum and salary) and has experience playing abroad in Germany.

For me if we are building on a 'budget' the key is to get players who can do the job required of them. I think we all know we need a CB and a LB as the priority this summer. Now why I would love Lescott/Douglas or A and Other 'big' name player we have to be realistic. Players like (CB) Wes Morgan, David Wheater, Adrian Mariappa, Alex Pearce, (LB) Joe Mattock and Chris Gunter are all players who will be in the Championship next season but are good solid players who could all improve our 'regular' back 4 (with Vlaar and Lowton) and I would not be surprised if these are the type of players Lambert looks at.

Bennett was considered a solid LB last season but now he's seen as the worst defender ever to play for villa. I think we need a CB an a LB who have proven they can play in the prem, it doesn't have to be the likes of Douglas or Lescott who earns big money, but players like Figueroa on a free and
M Olsson (£3m-£5m) who have experience of prem football, are not on big wages an are obviously good enough an wouldn't cost a silly amount of money Or if we look abroad there's the likes of Pieters at PSV who wouldn't cost any more than £5m, who has experience at the highest levels an can handle the physical pressures of the prem aswell as having the ability to play at this level.

Just because we are looking to get some players off the wage bill that doesn't mean we will use that 'availability' and give those sums to other players; the wage bill is still not where RL wants it.

We also need to be mindful that other teams will be interested in players like Figueroa and Olsson and they will undoubtedly be prepared to offer larger salaries then Villa. Yes they may not be looking for 60+k per week but there will be teams who are prepared to offer more then say 30/40k which may be our sealing

Its not a case of not being able to afford it; Lambert has made it clear that we will NOT be signing players of that ilk.

To use your estimations of wages people are paid and then assume we can use that to get new players is ridiculous. I have said it on here before, there is not just a big pot of money that is for wages and is to be distributed as PL sees fit. It is principally based on turnover which is (majority part) generated by match days an attendances have been down this season (in comparison to say 3 seasons ago) which has a knock on effect on the food and drink sold and also the footfall through the club shop.

Please open your eyes to wider the picture and notice we are now being run like a Business, with restrictions. You simply can't justify an argument by saying we're getting rid of A, B, C so that's means we have to get D, E, F!

My initial point was that someone was not happy renewing their season tickets if we are signing lower level players and I was simply stating that many of our better players this season fell into the category. In your opinion you wouldn't class Benteke as an unknown before we signed him whereas I would. At the end of the day I have full faith in PL to continue to make signings from lower level leagues which are cheaper and more cost effective to the Club as a business then the expensive more established names being banded about.

Signing players from lower leagues is fair enough when things are going well, but when things are not going well we will all be complaining we need experience or prem standard players.
An keeping in mind we only survived by the skin of our teeth, it's only the smart thing to do to sign established quality, I really don't think signing 2 players on 40k a week will send us in to a spiral of financial meltdown

And I agree that signing a few players on a larger salary would not put the club in real financial trouble but it just isn't going to happen. Lerner is still driving the need to reduce the wage bill and for anyone who saw Lambert on the Footballer's Football show last night he made it pretty clear that he will be looking to bring in more young talents and not experienced players, he categorically said he will not be changing his ethos. Big comparisions were made with Dortmund and what they have done over the last 4/5 years with blooding the youth and signing relative 'unknowns' from lower level clubs (Lewandowski came from the Polish leagues and I believe Subotic was playing for Mainz a yo yo team in Germany).

Every fan would love the named stars but it just ain't going to happen and that ethos Lambert is running with is because of the stance of the board. Yes we only just stayed up this season but if we had six more games left the way we were playing I think we could have easily finihed mid table.

Lambert is apparently preparing a bid for Celtic's Emilio Izaguirre, the move may be rushed as fear that other established PL teams are set to pounce. West Ham, Everton (Baines replacement?)

Can definately see Baines going to Man U if Moyes is appointed manager so Everton will be in the market with money to spend.

If this rumour is true we need to act now

Everton have announced Baines isn't going anywhere but they can't stop Fellaini as he has a buyout clause

Stan Petrov is to be offered a Coaching role at the club next season with Lambert looking him to stay about with the first team as he has been doing in recent weeks. If recent results are anything to go by then I'd have him there all day long.

Would be fantastic to see!

Would love to see a Celtic vs Villa match in the summer as a charity fund raiser, would be a great way to thank Petrov for his service

Chairman Randy Lerner set to give manager Paul Lambert a staggering £30million in the summer, in order to help boost the team back into a top ten club once more.

Also Stephen Ireland is set to leave the premier league, to go and play in Thailand.

Ireland playing in Thailand don't think so more like america beens as he's been linked with the red bulls and chicago fire in the past and I reckon Villa will probably get 15-20m with a few players being shown the door such as Bent, Given and maybe Ireland and Nzogbia I'd also get rid of Bannan and Bennett

Don't need much but if we sign Lescott on the cheap that will be an absolute steal! Chuck in Sinclair and hold on to our young ones showing promise if we can and next season should be a good one!

Personally i'd like to see the following signings

Douglas or Lescott for cb.

Wanyama or Diame for cm

Deeney or lukaku for st

We also need a left back as bennett looks decent going forward but awful at defending

We've had scouts watching PSV games possibly looking at left backs, but still not clear if its jetro willems or erik pieters, could also be taking a few notes on dries mertens which would be a cracking signing. Danny rose looks a good option at left back for me, a little bit shaky at times but nothing experience and age won't sort out, bennett doesn't seem to be improving defensively but can honestly see him doing a gareth bale just maybe not as world class, he has all the traits of a good winger and none of a defender, he has a trick, bit of pace and his ball into the box is unreal, but he can't tackle, can't head, can't mark and can't through!

I do think we are safe as we have on average since the new year collected 1. 37 pts but I will be more comfortable with a wigan loss tonight and then I could look foward to next season to see if lambert has it to get 2pts on average per game?

2pts average for the season would put us second in the table this season, got to love a dreamy villa fan lol

Averaging two points is 76 points in a season? And a win percentage of 66. 6% with no draws? Even if we won just over half (still unlikely) we'd need 15/16 draws and only 2 losses? If it was that easy we'd be laughing. Champions league here we come!

Villa interested in Andros Townsend

He's already a good player an he's gunna get better, so I can't see spurs selling him, they'll look to develop him further an hope he turns in to a future star for them

Danny Rose isn't any good, better off sticking with Clark, Baker or Bennett at Left Back

Joe Bennett is the single most useless player I have had the experience of watching, I would rather start every game with 10 than keep him, he actually makes me miss Stephen Warnock.

Bennett is good going forward & was sounded defensively against Blunderland. But after Norwich - TERRIBLE!
A step forward & 2 steps back!

Danny Rose is a england U21 international and for me a great prospect

Danny rose isn't great but bennett is TERRIBLE. i'm hoping its just his age and he improves dramatically next season. he makes the wrong decision defensively every time! andros townsend has been extremely impressive this season

Don't forget how bad a player Gareth Bale used to be when he first joined Spuds! great going forward & poor defender as a left back!

Ppl at spurs use to slate bale when he first went there and was left back, took him 3 yers to find his feet maybe you never know but we do need a experinced left back that's for sure!

Difference with bale is even when playing bad you could see the potential. bennet on other hand can't see getting any better

Wiemann and benteke will be off to greener pastures
