Being reported we want Sam Gallagher in the summer either on loan or 3mil, sounds a good deal as he's young, scored goals for a poor Blackburn side and sounds like a good deal so follows on from our Jan business.

They also reckon we will try and either loan Johnstone again or buy him permanent, he's been quality last few weeks but don't know if his the keeper to play 46 games in a season and help us get promoted, I think experience and a cool head from the back is needed for that.

Hope we continue with the good business this window as we did in January, just look at the players who are performing on loans, Tammy Abraham, Izzy Brown; players that are quality and available either on a loan or cheap.

The recent injuries show us that we still need more depth if we want promotion next year.

Hey lads. Just want to inform you that if Sheffield Wednesday loses the next four matches and Aston Villa wins the next four matches, then we can be in the play-offs and possibly qualify for the Premier League. There are eight matches left, so technically we can still do this. Let's continue supporting the team. Up the Villa!

I'm not sure reaching the Prem this season would be a good result.
Another season in championship with positive results, go up as winners, or runners up.

Yeah a good run till end of season to keep momentum going. but to go up now, we would be whipping boys again!
No thanks!

Considering when Bruce took over we were 11 games in with 1 win 3 losses and 7 draws, teetering above the relegation zone, I'd be more than happy finishing in the top 10, with a good run of form coming to the end of the season. One of the best squads in the league, competitive and looking favourites to go up next year. And tanking the blues at home putting them in the relegation zone would be a nice bonus.

30 Mar 2017 16:50:23
We are not making play offs lads, asking a little to much with our current position. love your enthusiasm though. More to the point, How do you think we will fair against Norwich. we have people back from injury and suspension so we should perform well. looking to another win to keep our momentum going in the right direction. It should be a good game think it will be fiercely contested.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Mar 2017 09:15:56
norwich and brighton are the only teams i think we can struggle against, now we might not make playoffs but as long as we go down fighting we can improve on this team and easy walk the league next season.

31 Mar 2017 09:50:28
Why would we want to go up this season?
We need to treat the last 8 games as an extended pre season and get everyone fully fit and ready to fight from the first game next time around.
If we play this right we could be unbeaten next season with the best defence and the most creative midfield in the country with two of the hottest strikers in the British isles (If Jimmy Danger starts passing)

It is not beyond the realms of possibility that we go on a good cup run and get more than one Wembley day out of 2018. let's face it the Liverpool game was probably the best feeling since Blues 5-1 and the Arsenal final was a great day apart from 90 minutes where we watched 11 players on the pitch v 11 gnomes fishing for a plastic koi that's already stuck on their poles.

Lets do what Bruce says and get in one or two good players that will help the squad, not whole sale changes as he did in January, but he has learned and admitted that that was the wrong thing to do.

I would have downing back if that would add something but if it doesn't let's blood some of the young and hungry kids that want to play for the shirt and would die for the Lion.
Just look at the youngsters brawl against West Ham that's passion.

Up the Villa
Lets smash the canneries tomorrow.

See you in the Tavern before for a pint.

Not mathematically impossible but most improbable that we reach 6th. As for being too early and why would we want it now, any promotion will need a good rebuild and as we have heard we will need 3 overhauls 1 promotion side, 2 Premier survival side and 3 top four contender side. I would love we could start now but also am realist let's muller Canaries today as need to get a massive win at VP at least once this season! UTV.

I like the new things the club are trying, finally moving with the times and bringing the fans closer. Seems all the lads outside the are seem to think brummies aren't the brightest tho, two of the lads have been asked the question "who's the smartest" in the video and both have said "definitely not jack or Gards that for sure"😂.

These videos give you a good look at the sort of lads these are off the pitch, Taylor seems quite down to earth. Next they need to stop the same tag line every time we sign a player "so happy to be joining this huge club" gets boring after the 18th time, Hourihane was impressive, knew quite a lot about us.

18 Mar 2017 18:54:43
Another 3 points, not a vintage performance but seems like we've got some resilience and grit about us now. Look much better defensively playing 433 but carry a huge threat with two up top, so Bruce has some thinking to do, hopefully he can find a solution. Brilliant Hogan got off the mark, scores goals at this level and should he and Kodjia form an understanding they'll score goals against anyone. Good signs and the bench finally has some depth and quality on it. Buzzing! UTV!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

17 Mar 2017 11:36:17
So Bruce has confirmed Green and Baker are out tomorrow, Jedinak will start as centre back and Lansbury and Hogan are facing late checks. I'd start the team that we played when baker went off last week.

Hutton as a right mid gives Johnson an out ball to someone who can win a header, Adomah was brilliant in that free role behind kodjia, no need for a defensive mid as we should be playing on the front foot.

Plus playing Amavi, Taylor and Hutton, Bree means they will get very little down our wings so will be forced to try and get through the middle where they'd need quality that their league position suggests they don't have.

Hopefully Hogan can make the bench and if we take our chances and are comfortable Bruce can send him on to experiment with two up top while there's no pressure on him.

16 Mar 2017 16:17:15
Players who have their contracts running out in summer 2018 so would be available for cheap in this summer window:

Chalobah (6'3 centre mid from Chelsea, young, spent 2 seasons on loan in napolis first team)
Barry
Robertson (hull, left back/ mid)
Vorm
Maguire (centre half, getting loads of plaudits at hull)
Dyer (right midfield cover? )

Oh and Sanchez and Ozil if we want to lower ourselves to that level, don't think they'd make our first team though to be honest.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

17 Mar 2017 09:47:01
from that list would take vorm and maguire. robertson i think is no better than what we already have, dyer just runs, barry i think after this season might have one year left and will retire, chalobah is another young english lad who has been bigged up so much he's going to be wanting 70k next contract.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Mar 2017 11:31:52
Probably right mate about his contract, easily on about 50k already just to keep him happy on the bench at Chelsea. Seems to be a good player tho.

Carlos Gill played the other day, my question is can we have him back next year or is he definitely gone? sanchez and verout could do a job as well.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

14 Mar 2017 13:38:14
Sanchez' contract runs out this summer from what Wyness has said, but Veretout and Gil are both available. Personally I could see Veretout doing very well in the middle, in January it was said several French clubs and Juventus will move to sign him, if so I think we'd get nearly 20mil just because of the stature of the clubs.

As for Gil, hard to see where he fits in because as a right midfielder in this league you need to be quick, something he's not, and we don't really seem to play with an attacking midfielder all too often, so although we do need a right winger as cover for adomah imo, I can't see him being the answer there, so we'd be keeping him for games against the bottom half/ quarter of the table where he can play attacking mid.

Would be a brilliant option of the bench when we need to change it up however! Either sell the two and your looking at 30/ 35mil plus to spend or keep them both and improve the squad elsewhere.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Mar 2017 16:31:14
Would keep Veretout, get rid of Sanchez and Gil.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Mar 2017 18:17:10
Veretout's trouble and strife not a big fan of 'le midlands', and also a few european clubs have been watching him this season where he's caught the eye, love to see him back but on balance, me thinks his agent fancies another cut of a transfer fee.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Mar 2017 20:46:45
Can't see any of them coming back. I like Gil but the Championship is not the environment where he is going to thrive. Same with Veretout.
Sanchez is living in Florence; he's not really going to want to come back is he.

15 Mar 2017 00:01:14
Seemed to have a good attitude last year but it's hard to perform when everyone around you isn't bothered and losing over the weekend going into training and seeing everyone laughing can't help his performances, in this new squad I think we'd see the best of him.

Gil too light weight for Championship and as said already I don't see the other two being attracted by the lure of Championship football over the winter when could get contracts in sunnier climbes! Think that we will finish just outside the play offs in 7th or 8th. think it's a little bit cloud Cuckoo land to expect anything else. It would be great if by some miracle we did it but no it's not going to happen.

Agree2 Disagree0

12 Mar 2017 12:28:01
Possible but not likely. With our record this season we're as likely to lose 4 on the bounce as win four on the bounce. We've had a bit of luck in last few games which balances some of the bad luck we've experienced. Derby and Sheff Wed results could have been different if penalties had been awarded. These things contribute to the results during the season. We mustn't start getting carried away now.
As others have said. Finish strongly this season and aim must be automatic promotion next year. Anyway quite enjoying life in the Championship although don't want a permanent spot here.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Mar 2017 12:49:51
Think it's no doubt going to be another season down here so you have to try and find positives in it, if we went up this year we could easily come straight back down because the teams had barely anytime together, give them a whole pre season, 46 league games next year and they'll be a team not just a squad of players.

That being said hypothetically is we did scrape the play offs chances are we'd go up, we would have to win almost all these games left, 'along us the in form team by miles, carrying that into them games is easier said than done but the confidence would count for a lot.

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Mar 2017 18:08:25

right I'm being told that we are hoping to sign John Terry in the summer on a 2 year deal and bruce will make him captain. at first you will all say no chance prem teams will come in for him. John said a few weeks back he would not join another prem team. couple of days ago he says want to stay in England for his kids. that in my opinion gives us a good chance of landing him and it is something we are trying to do. terry a keeper and another forward is the only 3 deals that will be done this summer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

6-8 weeks out, don't think a left winger being injured equals a centre back getting a contract tho mate.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Mar 2017 19:49:15
Ah good point Chris, what i should have made clearer is with samba having the experience of playing across the back line at previous clubs i think maybe brucey would favour using him and maybe pushing someone further up to cover losing bjarnason, i think experience would beat going for a youth player, although it would top entertainment to see samba on the wing though!

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2017 05:13:58
Getting Samba in defence means we can utilise Amivi on the wing, which he's very capable of.

While the season is drawing to an end how many players do Aston Villa need next season to go up? And who would you buy and let go? I say 6 in and I would let gardner amavi mcormack elphick jonestone gabby richards go.

In pantillimon nathan dyer ings on loan and Will hughes David davis Pontus Jansson and i would give Verout an Rhm ago next season!

Just my view just because we won a few games we still need huge improvement it we are to go straight up next season! Love to here your views.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Mar 2017 12:46:17
David Davies, Pontus Janson coming to the villa from Leeds who could be in the prem, Danny ings, sell Amavi and not bring in a back up left back. Are you Tom fox in disguise? Just joking but Davies is awful, Janson will either be in the prem or cost us 10mil plus, Ings will have every prem club and their dog after him if their letting him go, Johnstone will be going back any how and will Hughes would be the same, cost an arm and a leg or be going to a prem club.

Pantilimon and Dyer are good shouts tho. Think we should stick to what we did January, look for players on last year of their contract, Lansbury and Hourihane would be 7mil plus if they wasn't on their last year. Chester was a brilliant deal for us in the summer, and Jedinak, quality players that their team are happy to leave for minimal fee and happen more or less under the radar.

Wouldn't put names on it because no one knows who we'll end up with but minimum we need a goalkeeper, centre back, right midfielder - that's providing we sell no one, and that would be the minimum to achieve top 6. The squad we have now is one of the best in the league on paper when fully fit, we just need reinforcements, players who can come off the bench and change a game or allow us to change formation.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Mar 2017 14:19:39
Why pantilimon? Always been a number 2 which tells you something. Surely there's someone better out there for a club of our size.

Much as I am grateful for the fact that we have consecutively beaten two of the division's bottom-feeders, tomorrow's game will be the acid-test. If we can put in a good shift against Huddersfield away, then perhaps we can then say that we have turned the corner. Does anyone know if Bjarnason and / or Grealish are likely to have recovered from their knee injuries in time?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

06 Mar 2017 16:28:29
Think you are bang on menace. its been very good the last couple of wins, however the true test will come when we play teams at the top end of the division. It will be a tough ask, but hopefully the lads will take the confidence built up from the last couple of wins into the game with Huddersfield. another decent shift needs putting in make no mistake. It can be done look at forest takin out Brighton. their position should not put us off. NO FEAR.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Mar 2017 20:32:45
Can't see why he wouldn't start amavi. He is quick and has a good delivery. Surely that left wing position would be ideal for him? Doesn't have to worry too much about defending just get down the wing and get the ball in.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Mar 2017 20:41:04

We can wallow in self pity and sail down the divisions reminiscing about the glory days or we take the bull by the horns and crack on.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Mar 2017 21:36:58
The only place amavi should be is leftback-leftback in the changing rooms is all he's good for now, since his injury he's been going missing in the tackling department, harsh to say maybe;but he's more a liabilty, good going forward, but going back, sad to say he's got a mental block, you might as well play him as a winger only now, a shame, but he ain't no full blooded defender now, sell him in the summer and re-invest, simple as.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Mar 2017 22:10:46
We play to full potential we beat Huddersfield, no doubt.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Mar 2017 16:35:10
Lets look at this logically. We won't make the play offs, we're pretty safe from relegation looking at the points required in previous seasons, so let's blood some of the youngsters and see how they go. You never know they may save a few million in the long run.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Mar 2017 23:49:33
This season we've played 14 games with Chester and baker at the back and Jedinak in front of them, from them 14 we've won 9 and drew 5. That is the base of a championship winning team, keeping them fit for next season is crucial to us going up.

Even then some injuries are inevitable and Jedinak especially won't be able to play every game because of how the schedule is, Saturday - Tuesday, so if someone like Gardner can't step up and mouldy himself into that role then we need a back up option in the summer.

For someone who's 6 foot 3, Gardner (same height as Jedinak) he is no where near as much an aerial presence, good enough on the ball but needs to 'man-up' a bit - for lack of a better word.

The great thing about 3 wins in a week is that it really takes the pressure off as far as getting relegated again is concerned. The new players can now settle into their new environment and start to form understandings with each other on the pitch. Effectively we have a much extended pre-season with a nice summer break in between. With a few key additions (3-4) in the summer we can hit the ground running next year
Sounds simple as I write it down.

05 Mar 2017 14:19:41
Simple mendax! I agree totally with you about it being an extended preseason. I said to my buddy (Utd fan, I know but we all have friends that are far from perfect) at close of the January window that we had invested wisely for next season. Top two next year without a doubt in my mind with a feeling we top the table.

05 Mar 2017 17:55:23
Bang on mendax, look at Leicester, season before they won the league then won 8 of their last 10, all they did was carry that into the following season. Confidence is huge and once you've got it and building its like a snowball effect. On paper we have one of the best squads in the league, with a bit of confidence they will be one of the best teams in the league on the pitch.

I just hope we're starting to identify targets for the summer for our campaign back in the premiership next season, and before you all (maybe rightly) start telling me to smell the coffee, i want us to make the boys think we still got a chance, don't stop believing and neither will they, if it happens, i'm playing brucey in the movie, if not, well hopefully everyone will want to join us because they see we are indeed lions, and the club to be at! Yea sometimes it's good to see just how far our fan base is. If we are being honest tho, some of them are on another planet.

Thought bacuna red card was a little harsh. to ban him for six matches is way over the top. Steve Bruce must be pulling his hair out. the three match ban was more than enough. supose they must be making an example of him. To me it's got a very bad whiff about it, hope he has learned from what has cost the team.

I feel what he did deserved a 6 game ban, you can't get up in an officials face like that. Leo should be ashamed of himself.

Well done the Bruce an the lads another win good few chances throughout the game. shame jack got injured, but another 3points. and a move above bluenose's. what's not to like! Tough game coming up Tuesday against Huddersfield. However can take a lot of confidence into that game. FOREVER VILLA.

Wow just wow well done bruce and villa, great result loved the game can't wait for Rotherham now. Down side kodjia penalty miss, it's not the 1st penalty he has missed. i say let Jedinak take them, he takes them for his country and he doesn't miss. 1 day it will cost us the game. green was brilliant, everyone great. hutton you legend sets the standard for effort.
