Villa to bid for 20 year old Morgan Sandon. Another good young french player with a eye for a goal and can play and tackle. Be another good addition.

I have seen this to. And another midfielder from France. Starting to think ts snapping up all the young talent about for a strong future as Chelsea do.

31 Jul 2015 16:18:19
Not sure how real the interest was in Florian Thauvin (if at all)
But, I'm assuming that with a forward line comprising Kozac, Gestede and Adebayor, we are going to looking for an out and out winger ?
Exciting times

Believable1 Unbelievable0

31 Jul 2015 22:20:11
do you think that is us done with signing strikers?
i would have liked to see another possible star like embolo or martial
i don't know much about gestede only he didn't make it into cardiffs premier league team and he had a good season last year in championship. doesn't sound amazing.

still fear the right back position too. would like Richards just to slot in there when okore is fit to play with clark. but from what i hear he really wants to be a centre back.

31 Jul 2015 15:40:58

Another rumour circulating Social networks Koziak is close to going on season long loan to Forest once Gestede signs deal, bit of shame if true he has had good pre-season :)

Believable2 Unbelievable1

31 Jul 2015 13:11:18
Won't happen, not the right age for loan deal and we don't need him off the wages, I'm sure he will be an impact player off the bench this season.

31 Jul 2015 13:53:34
I hope so too Kenye he would be better off with us and I want him at VP but what I've read is very similar him and Gestede and Forest loan once the latter signs, but let's hope your right :)

Believable3 Unbelievable0

31 Jul 2015 12:03:40
Anyone else think this is just to annoy them because the bid £2m for Clark?
And lescott being a villa fan might kick off about a move whereas Clark wouldn't leave?

Or a replacement for Baker whose Burnley bound?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jul 2015 12:20:42

Believable6 Unbelievable0

31 Jul 2015 02:49:05
Should be at least two signings today

Agree2 Disagree1

31 Jul 2015 08:14:57
Looks like a triple signing today!

Nantes midfielder Jordan Veretout will have a medical at Aston Villa on Friday ahead of a proposed move to Villa Park, according to Sky sources.

It promises to be a busy day for the Villa medical staff with Rudy Gestede also set for a medical at the club after a deal was reached with Blackburn.

Adebayor medical and terms all agreed.

I think Sherwood has done well so far, but have a feeling this is the end of his transfer business, what does anyone else think?

Agree3 Disagree0

31 Jul 2015 08:58:22
Looking forward to triple signing later on today maybe or just the double :)) and Kenye think you could be right business concluded, bring on Forest sat more idea starting 11,then a week with whole squad prep for seasons opener, first time long time bit excited this year :)) UTV!!!

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Jul 2015 09:10:38
I think villa have done extremely well so far. My guess is that we are all filled with optimism now. A fresh start, the loyal fans have been rewarded. In terms of transfers, I wonder if Tim has a new gk lined up.

I know many have been suggesting n'zog should be sold, but I wonder if it's worth hanging onto him as the new look attacking villa might be more suited to him. I know he has been poor over the last 3 seasons, but that was in a team based around defending from the front and having no possession. We could sell him - but how much would we get ? 1-2 million ? May as well hang on to him

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jul 2015 10:37:06
That's true about NZogbia but he's had 3 seasons with us and done nothing spectacular.
On 50k a week, I would prefer to sell him and bring in a replacement, or give Gil a solid chance this season.

A new Goalkeeper is also a good shout. I am a big fan of Guzan, but worry about our back ups if he gets injured or has a bad run of form.

Sherwood bid £8m for Begovic, I'm sure he didn't have Bunn as his second choice, so maybe he will go for another if more funds are avaliable?

I hope the signings continue but even if they don't Sherwood has done excellent business before the season kicks off, agreeing with Jayz they have a week together before the season opener against Bournemouth.
That will be tough, there well up for it and fans expecting a lot this year, I live in Bournemouth, so see the expectation, all be it a bit deluded, they play attacking football and will score goals, it's there defence we need to exploit.
We need to get a winning start so Sherwood finding his starting 11 is key for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jul 2015 11:27:11
Agree get rid nzogbia a.s.a.p looking reading about him taking to Twitter venting is the last thing we need in dressing room,we need harmony, happy players and togetherness. I see Bournemouth being the Blackpool of old having good games shocking top teams it won't be easy, but for once in a long time I see we have players capable of technical abilitys, skill, creativity if TS gets I hope what he expects after buying these players we will see nice football for once, there will be highs and lows but it's a work in progress, but I know what us villa fans get like, remember start last season W4 D1 L0 we where all talking about champions league,so let's be patient and enjoy the football I think/hope we will witness this year :))

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jul 2015 11:44:42
I'd love to see Gil,Sinclair and grealish playing behind a striker and two hard working CM behind them. Play attacking football and I'd reckon that a lot of games drawn over previous years would suddenly become wins. Let's set up to win games rather than playing for draws/respectable score lines like we did under lambert and MacLeish before him.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jul 2015 12:07:27
I still think after the 3 players today tim will still want another 3 by the end of window. This may depend on players going out as well but I think we will get a Gk cb rm . Don't think he fully trusts guzan as num 1 bacona ain't the answer on the right and if baker goes a player like lescot or of similar quality to go with richards and compete with clark. Could use gil on right though.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jul 2015 19:43:04
no idea how true it is but apparently we've offered to pay all of adebayor's wages in exchange for then having Kyle walker on loan for a season. This is the only thing holding the deal up. We either pay all his wages and take walker for a season or pay 50/60% of his wages. Spurs want rid of all ades wages but want walker as back up/competition for trippier but walker wants guarenteed 1st team and villa have offered it.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

30 Jul 2015 21:45:06
Think walker would be quality, would be nice to have him back just don't see it happening though

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Jul 2015 00:38:20
We should be looking to do it the other way round. We should buy Walker and as a gesture of good will take Adebayor on loan for the season and pay all his wages.

I'm estatic about Gestede close to signing, he was my second choice behind Austin. Think he is only getting better. This transfer window is really looking good

Believable2 Unbelievable0

30 Jul 2015 13:38:12
French journalist is tweeting that both Adebayor and Veretout are currently at Bodymoor Heath and set to sign by close of play today.
As with all VIlla transfers it's not done until it's done, but looks to be very close now.
Gestede in tomrorow and then one more central defender and we're looking good. an established winger in the mould of Townsend, Young etc would be the icing on the cake!

Believable4 Unbelievable0

30 Jul 2015 14:58:28
Totally agree hopefully cissoko nzogbia Bennett tonev all go too

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jul 2015 15:39:33
6 million for gestede is a bargain. One third the price of Austin and he is more physical. Only thing Austin has is a years prem experience.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Jul 2015 16:00:35
Personally speaking, from what i've seen of Gestede i think he'll make a great target man but won't offer much other than that until/unless he develops his link up play and ability to work the channels. He's only 24 so its not out of the question that he could get a lot better in those areas, but he's never going to offer much pace or the abity to run at defenders. That's fine though as long as we have the players around him to feed off his strengths and supply ammunition. which are that he is an absolute beast in the air. he's right up there with Andy Carroll and Benteke for ability in the air!
Lets just hope we complete the deal now!

Agree0 Disagree1

30 Jul 2015 16:16:17
Sorry - turns out he's 26. so a little less chance of him developing his game. but not impossible!

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jul 2015 16:55:47
Sorry DBS, I think overall as a player Gestede will contribute more to the side than Benteke did, Gestede is very much a team player, target man, runner, Hold up player, and striker and does not sulk.
Its only my opinion though, and we can all be wrong, but from what I have seen he will be just Dandy, I know I am going to get slatted but that is what this site is all about we all differ in some way.
Speak to other teams supports an see what they say about him.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Jul 2015 17:13:33
Totally agree, bar cissoko leaving! Without him Bennett is back up left back as crespo played prodominantely CB/RB last season. Don't understand where the hate for cissoko has come from, was brilliant when he got his chance last season.

Agree2 Disagree0

30 Jul 2015 18:45:53
Cissoko was far from brilliant. he was ok defending wise. his attacking play terrible.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jul 2015 20:49:12
I agree on Cissoko - he is solid cover for Amavi and offers a very defensive counter style if Sherwood ever needs it.

30 Jul 2015 07:39:38
I've seen a link with us signing Yoann Gourcuff on a free transfer.very good player if you can get him fit. Has struggled with injury last few seasons but may be worth a punt for free. Thoughts guys.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

30 Jul 2015 08:25:49
where was this rumour

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jul 2015 09:20:34
I've only seen his name mentioned in a 'Great players available on a free' article. No mention of the Villa. More injury prone than 'Concrete' Ron these days, so I doubt there's anything in it.

Agree2 Disagree0

30 Jul 2015 09:35:30
Good signing that would be

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jul 2015 13:20:25

Nice to have options, but confused by him AND adebayor. Kozak has looked good in pre season, worry he won't get a game with these 2 and Ayew in.
Maybe Ayew will be played wide right?

Agree3 Disagree0

30 Jul 2015 01:51:38
LeTa give it a go . One season of berba and adebayor could be exciting. On top a newly fit kozak Plus ayew . Equals, to me at least, the best striking option we have had in years. Having said that we have a good track record of turning the worst out of these players (there you go I'm a villa fan)

Agree0 Disagree1

30 Jul 2015 08:30:09
Well I hope Adebayor is announced today, with her a I think a 1 season pay as you play deal would be good n i'd like gestede to come in but at the min the min I see ayew struggling to get game time

Great news

Agree5 Disagree3

29 Jul 2015 19:20:22
I think it's a shame to lose baker, and wish him well.
Might not be best at reading a game, but both he and Clarke would happily put their heads where it hurts to try to stop a goal. Might not be the most cultured defender, but one if the bravest.

Agree1 Disagree1

29 Jul 2015 20:44:13
Sad to see Nathan 'man of Glass' Baker leave. Shame were not more LFC away man of match memories. I thought he could be another Southgate eventually except the injuries have held him back. Good luck to the lad and hope he still gets to see Worcester Warriors from Lancashire.

Agree1 Disagree1

29 Jul 2015 14:55:54
Nantes have NOT accepted Leicester`s bid for Veretout.
Their president is still stating that Villa should stop haggling over parts of the deal, and he will pull the plug if it continues.
Nantes president seems to me to be a very honourable man, and should be admired for his loyalty to the player, by not standing in his way over the move.

He'd be an excellent signing. Staring to wonder if TS isn't the next Wenger, not from a success perspective, but from the point that we're going to be a French team.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 14:21:19
Reports villa didn't even bid for him, all paper talk

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 14:34:44
Apparently we spoke to his representatives and the player said he wasn't interested so no bid was placed. At least it shows TS is still looking and there's money there to spend

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 10:38:07
Reports in French media suggest that Veretout is still set to join Villa and flying in today for talks. Links to Leicester are due to Villa haggling over the final few details with the chairman of Veretout's current club stating that if Villa do not agree the deal tonight, it may well open up the door for Leicester or another club.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

29 Jul 2015 14:26:09
Yeh, I have been reading this as well DBS, we need to learn when conducting ourselves over transfers that when we are presented with a good deal to shut up and make it happen.
We have the chance of obtaining a very good player for peanuts in todays market, I say shut up and stop haggling Villa, get the deal over the line or rue the consequences.
We have lost players for decades because of a quid hear and a quid there, Deadly Doug was the master at it, learn from it.
We are building a new squad why loose an obvious target because of minor issues.

Agree3 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 14:55:34
Exactly villadave, let's hope Villa have learned their lesson and can get this one over the line!
Generally speaking, i like what Sherwood is doing with the squad in terms of replacing 'deadwood' for what hopefully turns out to be higher calibre players. Still think we need two or three proven players who can hit the ground running (CB, CM and a number 9) and improve our starting eleven, but that might just be me being greedy after all of the recent activity.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 15:38:45
I think you’re a bit like me DBS, we are like kids in a sweet shop at the moment with all this activity going on, we want everything on show.
Its great though and makes us all feel good.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 15:56:22
agree with dbs 1983 and villa dave this is an old tacktick used by us for many years and we have lost a great many top players if we don,t wake up we are going to loose veretout next who I have read really wants to join us have a go tim will ya put the suits right and leav,e tim to get em in top ten or better anyone carbisbay.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 22:25:46
jb19, I remember us losing Keane to Coventry too, over half a million. Also, apparently we lost Falcao to Porto over some other similarly stupid number, I think it was we decided he wasn't worth 5 million pounds.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jul 2015 07:33:22

Just seen tweets, and news outlets stating styillan petrov has convinced TS to go in for free 34 yr old striker berbatov ex Spurs, Man U, Monaco and that were supposedly in advanced contract talks, he believes he has one more fling to show in PL make what you want of it, I think I would prefer addy on loan instead :)

Believable3 Unbelievable3

28 Jul 2015 22:58:32
ive seen the links on Berbatov, not allowed to post foul language so just no, please. NO

Agree2 Disagree2

29 Jul 2015 05:07:59
I have to disagree. I think Berbatov is a class act and when I heard Monaco were not renewing his contract I was really hoping that we'd pick him up. He's the sort of player that clan pull a rabbit out a hat and for me, we've not had one of them for a while. His age doesn't bother me either as he's never played with great pace anyway. For a season or two I think he'd do a good job if TS played him regularly.

Agree3 Disagree4

29 Jul 2015 07:34:42
Berbatov yes plz, Berba has real class he' a footballing master class. Yes he's nearing the end of his career but class is permanent & he oozes class, never been the quickest but knows where the goal is & can turn any defender inside out.

Agree0 Disagree2

29 Jul 2015 08:14:39
Noooo the slowest lazyiest forward line in the prem after a week of highs, then finally accepting adebayour could do well for us under TS as has been proven already, but berbatov seriously!!! Waste of wages No thanks

Agree3 Disagree1

29 Jul 2015 09:00:38
Berbatov is all of the above. let's hope he is more "world class" than "slowest, laziest" if/when he joins. Benteke had his lazy moments pre-Sherwood.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 10:06:57
The last player we signed on Petrov's recommendation was Tonev. Just saying.

Agree2 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 13:44:19
Have to agree with mattwilko. That is the first thing that came to mind. Stan recommended Tonev. Petrov was a great player, but may not be the greatest scount/ when it comes to evaluating talent/potential or whether someone still has it.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 21:36:38
See it a bit like when we signed Chris Sutton! First thought what are we thinking of and he is past it. In the end he put in a shift and gained our respect be it for only a brief spell. Berbatov could be a good small by of business to come off the the bench but could be another Grant Holt? Worth a punt all the same

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 20:53:23
Bunn, Hutton, Clark, Richards, Amavi, bacuna, Westwood, gueye, Sinclair, gabby, koziak strong line up starting, hoping get to see ayew from bench get a glimpse, don't think it would be starting 11 vs Bournemouth but not bad really :)

If we looked that good tonight, how did we concede 2 goals against a mid table championship side.
A lot of room for improvement and still more players needed.
Another centre mid, a right winger, a striker, and a goalkeeper for me, Guzan us good but what happens if he gets injured?

29 Jul 2015 07:01:42
Hutton was unreal last season, Holte end loved him, take it upon himself to drive down the right because no one gave him an option

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 07:32:15
I was at the game as well and I agree bucuna and Hutton were pants never sure what they have to do for me I like Sinclair and he looked sharp at times but he's not a number 9 for me we defo need two strikers taking nothing away from kozak he worked his socks off and scored a lovely goal but it ain't good enough for prem, there was some good points amavi was class, Richards got into the game, guey was really ropey at start looked like Sanchez when he first started but then he game into the game really impressed we still need a lot of improvement though

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 10:43:08
I'm sorry, but you can drive down the right all day long, but if you can't put a decent cross in what is the point. In defense we was constantly getting turned on the right.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 20:40:28
Just watched 1st half vrs Wolves, koziak looks like a free quality signing after his torrid injury season, Amavi wow he looks the real deal bombing up and down flanks, Richards looks little bit rusty but on a whole strong line up, with pace, speed, should be 2/3 up but 0-1 koziak, I know it's only wolves but still a Derby and both teams treating it like league game which is good to see :)

Leicester have apparently offered between €13-14m for Veretout, more than Villas bid. Sure we'll at least match it but a bidding war isn't great

Believable1 Unbelievable1

28 Jul 2015 19:55:51
The bid will not always secure the player, if he does not fancy Leicester then we have a good chance.
Surely if he looks at history, ground, fan base, etc etc he would choose Villa, wouldn’t he !!!!
It is up to him after all.

Exactly what you all said. Who are Leicester! Seems like he'd be our most promising signing so I'm sure we'll match the offer and get it wrapped up. If it was straight forward it just wouldn't be a villa signing

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 20:55:43
Mendax - the only factor that decides the winner is money, and I don't blame the players if the clubs are willing to pay it. I'm sure Sherwood will have a huge list of targets he's looking at, its just nice to be linked with players of this value for a change.

Got to say I am very impressed with TS transfer activity with these players he is bringing in, it's nice to see 9/10mil players arriving instead of 2/3 mil these players really look like they can make a big improvement for villa this season just waiting on the news of a striker or two. What do people think?

Believable3 Unbelievable0

28 Jul 2015 13:32:50
I'm well over the players that left, and now looking forward with optimism. If you had told me at christmas that this season we wouldn't have Delph (which we wouldn't due to contract anyway), Vlaar and benteke then I wouldn't have been surprised. But, with the addition of Richards, Sinclair, amavi, ayew and the other cm 9m lad I'm more optimistic now than I have been for over three years. I'm also hopeful that we could see more of Callum Robinson and gardener, and actually gabby might do better with more support around him.

28 Jul 2015 14:32:47
Got to agree Alby and Woods I feel with business concluded and players in so far I'm more excited about this season than have been for few years now, still not sure over sale of club as most these players brought from selling, one good thing if no sale RL seems to have got his love back for us and I put that down to TS passion and winning mentality flowing in his veins, although never ever forgive Delph for giving us promises then kicking us in the nuts week later, which totally ruined my weekend, but what a difference a week makes, quietly optimistic that come business end we won't be worrying like many a season now,NEW era,New squad,Sherwood may become a legend. :))

I believe the takeover is progressing nicely. We have signed three of the most expensive players we have ever signed in quick succession over the last few weeks. My thoughts are that we are trying to do most of our business prior to announcing any new owner as it's well known a takeover could encourage selling clubs to increase their asking price. So I'm not panicking yet. Thoughts ?

Believable6 Unbelievable2

Given NOTHING has been announced, and the cash is being splashed, you might be onto something!

Agree3 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 06:59:02
If you have a car you want to sell and is in need of extensive repair do you spend a few quid on doing it up to keep it road worthy, to get a good sale price for it? We are still for sale and need this injection of players to keep us on the premiership road as with TV money we would surely devaluate if any buyer thought we would crash out of the PL. RL is a business man so won't get too excited about any take over until the maths of spend are so high they go well over £40m CB and FD and the £20 plus we would have spent probably to try and stay up!

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 07:11:40
I think the new owner is being clever & has a agreement with Lerner, I may be well off but this is what I thinks actually happening.
I think by Lerner spending a lot of money say £50m before the takeover then selling the club for say £200m and not £150m will be a way around the Financial FairPlay rules.
Man City got around it by renaming their stadium the emirates for £500m.
Like I said could be wrong but seems very odd how Lerner has gone from a penny pincher to splashing the cash during a take over.
In theory that £50m then becomes money made by club turn over eg self sustained meaning the new owner could spend even more.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 07:28:08
Think we have cut a shed load of wage bill and players in so far wouldn't be on that much

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 09:59:31
We still haven't actually spent anything jus reinvested the money from Benteke and co's sales

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - That is "spending".}

28 Jul 2015 10:50:02
While I do agree the takeover is still progressing am I the only one that thinks the money we are spending is coming from the sale of players?

So far this window we have made around £35-£40m in transfer fees and shipped out massive wages with these going.
Delph, Benteke, Bent, Luna, Given, Lowton, Weimann, Vlarr, Cleverly, Sylla.
That's probably £350k a week in wages saved!

So with roughly £28m spend on players and all on lower wages than the players going out, Lerner is by no way making a loss.

As much as I am excited about our new signings, personally I think if they were being funded by a new buyer with mega money we would be going for already established premier league players who would push us towards top half football, not keeping us in the league. The likes of Townsend, Bolaise, Austin.

Looking at the sales compared to buys I think we need at least 4/5 more players to come in.

Hopefully there is more money to spend and the buying continues!

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2015 12:38:12
Haha Ed what i meant was Lerner hasn't actually invested any additional funds yet but at least he's allowed all the money earned to be reinvested in the squad

Lerner wanted the club to be self sufficent which it is , no new owner imo

still reckon that we need a "safer" bet of a striker if adebayor does come in - no denying that the bloke has quality but he isn't guaranteed to turn it on. also find it weird how austin hasn't moved yet, reckon tim has something in place with QPR due to his relationship with the higher powers at that club

Believable2 Unbelievable4

28 Jul 2015 08:49:33
I think Austin is yet to move because £15m and £85k a week is a lot of money for a player with limited top level experience and only 12 months left on his contract. I would happily have him join but not at those figures, which will likely drop as the window starts to close.

Hearing that we are in a fight with Everton for Van Dijk from Celtic, backup plan is George Friend from Boro. Expecting Ade to complete loan deal in next 48 hours especially after RW declaring he thinks he is coming, paying 50% of his 100K salary.
Gone a little quiet on the Cambiasso signing but hoping it will go through. Still think we need a good out and out winger (Townsend/ Balaise?) and a Jordan Rhodes / Charlie Austin type upfront then can use Ayew as a winger come striker

I think Sherwood has done his homework with Crespo. He has a Europa cup winners medal in his locker which is more than most of our squad. He's such an odd player to go for u less he's scouted him. Had a look at him on you tube and he looks decent. I know a 2 min selection of clips doesn't make him good but he can play anywhere along the back line which will be useful, especially with the likelihood of players like cissokho, Bennett going having already lost Vlaar, lowton and Luna. He could now also lose either senderos or baker too. It just goes to show just how many players we had in the wage list that we could lose. We've been paying millions a year for players nowhere on the first team radar. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go for Van Dijk from Celtic. We've gone in from 50/1 to 6/1 to sign him. That's some money.
Sherwood also said that Ayew is perfectly suited for the premier league. Yet again more homework. I think there's more to come too. It's about time is Villa fans had some transfers to get excited about. £8/£9m players rather than £2m hopefuls. VTID

Things really hotting up now and agree villafanmike looking more promising with purchasing players between £8m -£12m!really looking forward to the start and really optimistic that villa will catch a few out with such a team change. Have been worse than predictable for last few seasons and with so many new faces could be a great early part of the season. As long as they settle in of course. That has to be good surely

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Jul 2015 21:12:32
I have to agree with you all, for the first time in a long while we are buying players and plenty of them, the quality of these players we will have to wait on to see if they suit premiership football but on paper all looks good, I feel sure that Tim would of done his homework and that many of these players have been in his mind for some time. However it may take such a lot of new faces time to gel as a team so let's not all get negative if the first few games don't go as well as planned. Having said that I for one am looking forward to the start of the season and feel like positive progress is at last being made and who knows there may be more signings to come before the close of the window. So let's get behind Tim and the squad and give them the support and time needed to turn around the fortunes of this great club for I think we may all be witnessing a new beginning.

So, who's going to get the armband to start the season? Know Richards had it against Swindon. but who do we really want to lead this team? Share your thoughts? To kick it off, while its hard because we don't know TS's preferences regarding starting lineup of say Richards or Westwood, although a part of me would go for Grealish. Westwood captained Crewe, but Nesta captained Lazio at a young age, same with Terry at Chelsea. Grealish is Villa thru and thru and giving him the captaincy at a young age might take him to a new level. Anyway, curious to hear who people want to lead the team.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

26 Jul 2015 21:09:57
Richards or Clark. Grealish is too young and I prefer defensive captains to offensive/creative ones.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Jul 2015 21:21:06
Richards, or even guzan for me, In My opinion, someone who watches all play in front should be captain, never understood how an attacker could be a good captain, unless they are world class, shearer for example.

I'm also a believer you earn the right to be captain, to command respect of men is saying, 'I've been here, done this, follow my lead'.
I don't see grealish being able today or do this.

Westwood is an unsung hero at villa, and would be a fair shout. But, not one I would pick!!

Agree4 Disagree0

26 Jul 2015 21:38:10
High SPfister9, Grealish is too young and inexperienced, he has only played a handful of games so is very naïve.
My choice would have to be either Richards or Clark both very passionate and focused.

Agree2 Disagree2

26 Jul 2015 23:22:16
Definitely not Grealish, let's get some perspective on the lad! A great prospect for greatness but a long way to go to perform at a high standard consistently. I would choose Richards as will command respect. Would love Gabby but I fear too much bench and treatment table time there?

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Jul 2015 23:49:24
My vote would be for Clark. But in the end the captains armband is nothing but a piece of cloth. There will always be natural leaders in a team, but its up to everyone to chip in and drive the team forward whenever they can, whether it be from the defence or the attack.

Agree0 Disagree1

27 Jul 2015 00:25:50
Definitely appreciate all the responses. Wasn't advocating Grealish, I just think it's interesting that some sides have made a kid captain and its paid dividends. My struggle was/is who will be in the starting lineup consistently. To me, that rules out Gabby, Westwood and possibly Clark too. To be fair, if Richards plays centre back, Clark is battling Okore, Baker, Senderos. I don't see him starting consistently. Guzan, therefore, might be a good shout. Richard might be too, I'm just not overly keen on a player walking straight in and being captain. Anyway, great debate, we'll see who it is soon. Bring on the new season. UTV!

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jul 2015 06:56:05

Austin wants 85000 can't see many paying that for one good season in a relegated team, another French lad linked today rennes striker ntip

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2015 12:04:29
More like Austins agent wants 85,000. I say let him rot where he is then, there are plenty of other strikers who don't demand outrageous wages. After all what's he had a couple of decent seasons, it's not like he is a well proven top goal scorer. These players and agents get to far above themselves when it comes to wages and transfers. Let him play Championship football i say. !!

Agree2 Disagree0

26 Jul 2015 18:58:28
I would like Austin but see Slimani as the best option finacially, he is very similar to Benteke very strong great in the but also has good feet.
Kodak is more your target man lone striker where as we need a big man who can play in a strike partnership I think the possibility of Slimani & Ayew up fornt with Grealish tucked in behind would be exciting.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2015 13:30:36
Anyone know why Bennett isn't listed on the official site squad anymore? He's not on the released list and doesn't appear we've sold him. Also, anymore on Cissokho's move? I really wouldn't mind keeping one of them as back up to Amavi, but also think we should move Richardson and we certainly don't need 4 left backs. Also, Herd is on the prem's released list, but is still listed in the squad on our official site. Still think we need a new keeper and it would be nice to see us move a few more on as well.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Jul 2015 16:43:48
Why move Richardson. was the only player to turn up to the cup final.

Agree1 Disagree1

25 Jul 2015 17:47:26
Richardson has played his career as a left winger so when he came to villa they dropped him as a wing back for some reason.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - he played left back many times before joining Villa mate, most of his Fulham time was at left back.}

25 Jul 2015 21:41:27
ED001 I agree he spent most of his 2/3yrs at Fulham left back/left wing but most if not all his 5yrs at Sunderland was at left wing.hes a reverse of a gaz Barry I guess.LB=LM.dont think Richardson is good enough to play in the prem

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I would agree on your final assessment, he was initially shunted to left back by Man Utd because he wasn't good enough on the wing. The last few years have just mostly solidified that.}

I think we will get Gestede, he is a great target man and team player with plenty of skill for a man of 6` 4"
I think a lot of these other players mentioned tend to be smoke screens and used tactically to throw teams
Having said that I would not rule out getting Ayew, these things happen, remember Amavi there were so called problems there.
We will be OK.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

24 Jul 2015 20:49:57
I'm a bit gutted to see the ayew bid rejected! Hope we go back and up this. Saw some highlights on youtube and he looks a decent replacement for benteke. Still like us to go for embolo as well. As for austin, maybe. But can see this being a late deal as so many clubs are looking at him. He apparently wants a top half club but if he hasn't got a move on the last few days, can see him moving anywhere to get back in prem and keep his England hopes going.

Even with the wages we've freed up i hope we don't go for adebayor. Much rather we look at rhodes, gestede or joel campbell

My point being that there as still not been any statement of such from Lerner in regard to our own takeover which I would of expected as soon as the deal supposingly fell through. This is one of the reasons that i'm still thinking that it's not a dead deal !

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I agree with WOVF. You would expect a formal statement to come out if it had fallen through, not least to alert other suitors.

Sherwoods interested in Islam Slimani from Sporting Lisbon.
Slimani is a quality power house striker great in the air a very similar style striker to Benteke.
Slimani has a very good strike rate looks built for the Premier league & is 27 years old should be hitting his prime.
My only concern is we're getting linked to big strikers Adebayor, Slimani, Austin so where does that eave Kozak is that a sign TS wants to move him on as well?

I have to disagree Villan, Benteke as never had Villa at heart, he was looking to leave last season and he as just used Villa as a stepping stone team from day one, Yes you could argue that he scored some important goals for us but isn't that why he was paid thousands of pounds a week, I grant you he was a decent player whilst we had him but to portray him as some sort of Villa legend or hero is ridiculous.

Agree3 Disagree0

23 Jul 2015 14:31:07
Yep agree, top player on his day and if you can get him to perform consistently could be one of the best in europe.

But

He put in for a transfer request

He would of gone last season if he hadn't got injured

He gets injured

He spits the dummy when not going his way rather than trying harder

He has a tendency to go missing

Yes, he is a good player and yes we relied on him, but he is no hero and far from irreplaceable. Just read some of the scousers mixed thoughts on his arrival, what does that tell you?

Bye bye, all the best. next!

Hi WOVF.
We are linked to every striker out there at the moment, I just want us to put in a concrete offer for Austin and see how it pans out, he would be great for us.
If he refuses fine, get the irons out of the fire and bid on other targets.
We need TWO strikers that is a certainty and should be rectified ASAP, I have just done a quick check on our striker targets that we are being linked with, 18 is the figure, that tells me that most of it is guess work by all.
I want to hear of money on the table and firm bids, clubs treat us like bloody housewives in days gone by, they tell us nowt

I agree Villadave I have been waiting for an offer to go in for Austin and Townsend myself but there does not seem to be much happening at the moment and I fear the opportunity to do so will be lost if Tim is not careful, maybe now the Benteke saga is finally over we may see some action on the transfer front.

22 Jul 2015 23:31:17
Just watched YouTube clips of Diego Rolan looks like a great hot prospect reminds me a sort of young Jermain Defoe great speed, eye for goal, plenty skills not so great aerial power but looks bags of potential and will only get better hopefully,so personally be pleased if the rumours, papers, net reporting €18 bid think he will be a big hit at Villa, finally lost big BEN agreed time to move on but should we be targeting a Target man aswell? If so I can only see Adebayor coming and not Austin

Hey first time posting on this site. been following for years every transfer window.

Im living in Vancouver Canada at the moment so find it hard to follow these rumours and stories as closely.

Is there actualy any evidence that Benteke is leaving the club? I mean the story has got blown up just because of the sale of Sterling.

It seems like everything is happening soon with Villa at the moment. sale of the club / sale of benteke wish all this business would just get wrapped up

Benteke be a fool to leave for Liverpool too. especially with United in need of a striker. Much bigger club.

Just for fun my team for next year

Will you aim higher than Austin and Townsend, I certainly wouldn't want them at Aston Villa, because I don't think that they are worth the money.

Recently Aston Villa had an offer from Roma to sign both Destro and Ljajić.
Tim made an offer to sign Embolo. Romero can also be signed on a free transfer. These are decent quality players, and are worth the money.

Tim would have all the players he needs if he signs them.

Lads, let's aim for these players instead.

Aston Villa are targeting a lot of strikers to replace Christian Benteke, who will leave the club after Liverpool have agreed to pay out his entire contract release fee. From what I know, Emmanuel Adeboyar, Charlie Austin and Callum Wilson are top of Tim Shirwood's list. All have the potential to be great signins. Let's not forget Shirwood got Adeboyar scoring again at Spurs, Wilson is a great, young, English talent and Austin was one of the top scorers last season despite being in a failing QPR team. Let me know your thoughts.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

21 Jul 2015 18:42:16
The Charlie Austin signing is the way to go. Why mess around. If new midfield signings work out, we won't miss Delph. Gil is better going forward. Delph just gave us one decent season. At least Gil and the new lads want to play for Aston Villa. Austin got the same amount of goals as Benny, but playing for QPR. He'd be a massive hit at AVFC!

No statement as come from Lerner that I know of, I feel sure that Lerner would of released a statement by now if talks had indeed broken down. That's why I believe that talks are still on going and that we will hear something before the new season. Lerner never uses his managers to pass on messages and if he has news to tell he usually does by way of a press release. Just an opinion of mine and I am certain that others have their own.

Agree2 Disagree1

I am hopefull of seeing plenty of activity this week with the boys being bk from Portugal. I just hope to god tim doesn't panic buy. In my opinion Adebayor is exactly that. Yes it makes sense to buy an experienced premiership striker but Adebayor will be like uncle Albert from only fools and horses ("during the war"). he was lazy even in his arsenal days so god only knows what he will be like now. Mr sherwood please please spend that money wisely. I have faith.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

19 Jul 2015 16:29:12
For a player Tim Sherwood got the best out of I for one would welcome Adebayor. Villa fans are deluded to think we'll go and get another Christian benteke.
Aswell as this signing we would still need another striker, bamford whether it be a loan or permanent signing ticks the boxes for me.

Agree0 Disagree11

19 Jul 2015 18:53:54
Yeah Bamford would be a good signing but I wouldn't want Adeybayor he's the type of player who thinks he's doing Villa a favour by playing for us. i'd much rather someone with a point to prove like Lambert.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - AV is not one of the clubs looking to Bamford.}

19 Jul 2015 20:46:32
Finch, who has mentioned another Benteke ?
I've not heard anyone talk in those terms. We won't necessarily get another Benteke style player, that's true. But if we are smart and maybe a little lucky, we could get a player or two for similar money to what we paid for Benteke, that make a similar impact.
It's a risky strategy but what transfer isn't a risk
What we mustn't do is throw our hands in the air, accept we will never replace the big man and do Tottenham the massive favour of taking a massive problem off their hands in Adebayor.
My preference would be to buy Austin plus one of the more speculative signings that have been mooted
2 reasons for this
1: We needed another striker even if Benteke had stayed
2: A seasoned goalscorer in the Prem such as Austin would take the pressure of the more risky purchase by giving them more time to settle

Agree1 Disagree1

19 Jul 2015 22:37:16
Agreed mendax. Thing is I feel we've got good business out of benteke. We payed what 7 mil? No one had ever heard of benteke really when we brought him in. He was without a doubt a massive player for us but the only reason is because the team was built around benteke and how he plays. Sherwood is building his team the way he wants to play football. No one has had the Gaul to do this since Martin oniell let's just hope it pays off. From what I've seen so far tim knows what he wants

Agree1 Disagree1

20 Jul 2015 11:52:27
Austins not a proven premier league goalscorer. he had one good season as did grant Holt for Norwich! Seen it happen many times.
I just don't get the negativity surrounding Adebayor when ts got the best out if him, if a cut price deal was put in place with spuds I see it as good business.
I think we all agree we need 2 strikers.

Agree0 Disagree2

20 Jul 2015 20:09:22
I take the point about Austin, Finch.Aalthough I think he is a class or 2 above Holt
The point I was trying to make is that he does have some pedigree in this league when compared to the more speculative names mentioned from abroad, who all seem young and promising but by anyones book, would represent a risk
You'll never convince me on Adebayor, mate
He performs for new clubs and therefore for new managers then goes off the boil and becomes a problem
Sherwood had him for a short time so this constantly spouted theory that Sherwood has the formula to get him to play for him is overstated
They couldn't wait to get rid of him at Mancity and they've been desperate to offload him from Spuds for a long time. There has to be a reason for that

Stoke, Manchester United, Spurs, Aston Villa, Norwich and Crystal Palace were all cited as having him watched. But apparently it was Dortmund who opened discussions with Brugge over the player - who recognise they could lose him this summer. Brugge are looking for another club or two to become interested in order to push up the price. His agent has been keen to advertise clubs having him watched in recent months and has noted a couple of French sides (Nice and Rennes) also showing an interest.}

I live in Bournemouth and saw a lot of Wilson in the championship last year.
He is starting to be a quality act!
He's got pace, good first touch and excellent finishing.
He scored 20 goals in 45 games in championship last year.
23 year old English and home town is Coventry so don't think it would be a problem for him.
If Bournemouth are willing to take £7m for him then I think it's a bargain! He will only improve and increase in value.

Whether Randy Lerner completes the sale of the club or if he intends to retake the reins himself, one thing still remains certain and that is that the club now needs to show their intentions over the next few weeks by the way of massive investment in new players. A quality strike force is definitely now needed unless we are to suffer the humiliation of another goal drought as we witnessed last season and I’m not talking about end of career strikers. We will find out for sure before the start of the new season just by what players we have bought whether or not we are genuinely moving forward or if we are all going to be condemned to watching second rate football for another season followed by the all too familiar relegation battle. It’s time now to do the right thing for the club whoever may be in charge so let’s see the colour of your money and put back the long awaited smiles on the oh so many loyal fans who have stood firmly by the club through these torrid years and unlike many of the players us Villa fans are here long term.

Agree2 Disagree2

18 Jul 2015 10:07:25
Well it looks like Sherwood's gone if this is true because there is no way Lerner would give the entire 40m

Agree2 Disagree2

18 Jul 2015 10:16:15
Think that sounds like a rumour that's come from small heath just to get a reaction until TS says otherwise i'd take it as what it is a pile ov poo. new team new villa in TS we trust!!

Agree3 Disagree0

18 Jul 2015 10:24:39
He won't get all of it because of sell on fees to both Leeds and genk

Agree2 Disagree0

18 Jul 2015 10:46:29
do you mean 40 mill of delph and benteke sale?? well sure that won't happen as we have to pay 3.5 to genk from the benteke sale half .5 mill to leeds for delph don't we??

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - under the new transfer rules, the team/s who developed a player during his youth will get 5% of any future transfer fees, as well as any sell on clauses they are entitled to.}

18 Jul 2015 10:49:11
I've supported this great club for about 45

years, I've seen good times and bad times

ranging from the humiliation of seeing us

having to play in the 3rd tier of football to

the heights of seeing us raise the European Cup

but of late it's beginning to become evermore

difficult for even myself to keep the faith,

every piece of good news seems to be followed

by twice as much bad news. It's time someone

started to get a grip of this football club and

move it forward or I'm afraid to say the club

will very soon become doomed to a point where

it would take many years to put right.

Agree7 Disagree3

18 Jul 2015 19:37:40
Heard that rumour also that TS will leave if the money doesn't get re-invested and who would blame him to be honest,he came here although I was sceptical that something wasn't right at Spurs because he left with the best win/loss ratio for many year there, but I'm wrong he is young, energetic, looks good man manager of individuals, showed Ben the love he craved which turned our fortunes last season in fact the whole squad, with all this crap who knows what to expect anymore. dammm hope not about this rumour

18 Jul 2015 06:34:08
Just been reading that Benteke has a medical booked at Liverpool on Monday.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

18 Jul 2015 10:32:02
Still not that far in proceedings aa Liverpool can't afford to give full fee upfront, they trying to stagger payment over 3 seasons, needs to be sorted very soon though, so we can rebuild our great club

Agree3 Disagree1

18 Jul 2015 23:27:35
Can't afford Ben's fee ??? Just got 40mil with QPR sell on fee for Sterling covers 32.5mil,Liverpool talking S*** as usual,I'd be happier Man U executed fee release maybe go talks with season loan for Wilson and although hatred towards Delph for screwing us from behind we've always known Ben wanted to leave from day 1 considering he thought we was arsenal lol,so I think he would be better addition to Man U than Liverpool and we could get half decent striker back up,surely Hernandez would laugh at prospect but again another option would be great

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Liverpool did not get £40m up front, it would be best if you didn't get involved in financial talk as you clearly do not understand it. Liverpool have more than spent any money they are receiving for Sterling before the deal was done.}

19 Jul 2015 11:24:25

Agree2 Disagree0

17 Jul 2015 21:03:05
I know we don't really need any more negative news but I wouldn't get my hopes up regarding Amavi. Everything I've seen has indicated he isn't keen on the idea of joining Villa and the only thing that could tempt him is if there are no other options and high wages. In which case he doesn't deserve us. It could still happen because Nice want the money but his hearts not in it

Believable2 Unbelievable2

17 Jul 2015 21:47:41
Once sherwood is back from Portugal they will start rebuilding, they did say there wouldn't be many signings while he was away

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not sure, they don't want to leave it too long, must be other teams sniffing round. looks like a quality player!!

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Jul 2015 20:16:07
Complete Villa spine removed, we need some quality additions and Lerner needs to splash some serious cash, I heard we are not interested in Austin and are going for Embolee, Praet, and the Senegalese lad was to play The bull s:::ters role in midfield. Less than 3 weeks to go and we need some serious deals done. Scoring goals is a massive issue for us so we need to act quick.

Fear for us guys, we will need time for the newbies to bed in when or if they arrive. Hernandez I would take in a heart beat.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

20 Jul 2015 09:01:25
Villian, Hernandez doesn't want to play for Aston Villa. I think that Tim received enough money from the sale of Delph, and Benteke will be sold to Liverpool for £32,5 million when he passes his medical today. He is trying to sell Guzan for £3 million as well. That is £43,5 million combined. Plus if Steer, N'Zogbia, Hutton, Westwood, Cissokho and Bennett are sold, there would be more money for transfers. But like you said we need to act quickly.

I would sign Embolo for £7,7 million, Destro for £11 million, Ljajić for £8,7 million and Akinfeev for £9 million.

These are the players I want to see in Villa shirts this coming season.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jul 2015 19:33:43
During his time at the Villa, Delph made 128 appearances, scoring eight goals. When you look at it this way not too down hearted. How much of a loss will he be, come on TS work some magic and get us a goal scoring midfielder

Believable1 Unbelievable0

17 Jul 2015 20:08:49
I hope we bring in praet and townsend I'd also like little pea as our main striker

Agree3 Disagree2

17 Jul 2015 20:57:22
Heard that palace was looking at remy, not a bad shout if we can sneak in there,I think if we've got £40million from the sales then splash a little on 3/4 players meaning we will be strengthening the team.dont think there is a chance of signing Hernandez,Man Utd, Madrid then villa?? Big step down but we can dream

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jul 2015 21:48:36
This dardar guy if we get him has scored some cracking goals and all sorts of goals. Looks like a gerrard in his prime. I hope we get the guy I think him and the work rate of gueye would make a excellent midfield if they could both settle and adapt to the league. Also martial is a quality player and I really hope we get him. This could be a fresh villa if lerner gives tim the 40 mil at least to spend and don't bank it. I'd like him to give him that and a bit more but can't see it.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jul 2015 18:51:46
Looks like we need a new captain I choose N'zogbia because the big teams always take our captain so hopefully they will take him lol

Believable3 Unbelievable1

17 Jul 2015 19:32:07
Lol, seriously though, who do we make captain now? I'd go Richards

Agree1 Disagree2

17 Jul 2015 20:17:46
Well we all expected Delph, Benteke and Vlaar to be gone by the time the new season begins so as long as we continue to buy new players and replace those that leave with quality players then it's all good. Better off without a player who harbours false loyalty and there is plenty of talent to replace him so let's see what the next couple of weeks brings. :-)

Agree2 Disagree1

17 Jul 2015 20:29:10
I agree think Richards would be a solid choice, always prefer captains at the back

Agree1 Disagree1

17 Jul 2015 20:06:44
I agree he's a winner and a villa boy,

Agree0 Disagree2

17 Jul 2015 20:39:34
Cole should be our new captain, Guzan can be vice-captain and the 3rd captain should be Clark.

Agree0 Disagree3

17 Jul 2015 23:06:34
Cole as captain what planet are u on . Guzan as vice captain these are the players we need out of the club.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jul 2015 07:37:18
Im guessing our captain will be gabby, longest serving player in the villa squad, he's villa through and through. Its either him or ciaran clark i would think.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2015 09:19:40
Then I would go for Clark as Villa's new captain. For me, he is the right choice.

And I would keep Cole and Senderos as substitutes. After all, they were signed for free and they have good amount of experience.

But do we all agree that the rest, who are Steer, N'Zogbia, Bennett, Cissokho and Hutton we should get rid of?

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jul 2015 18:50:30
It's official then. Maybe I'm not quite the Columbo detective I always dreamt of being, I must say I'm not completely excited about him going but I do believe that money will be spent wisely. I was wondering why we was being linked with more midfielders. Hopefully be able to bring Townsend in now. Would like to see why he changed his mind though? Maybe it was the benteke thing.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

17 Jul 2015 19:44:29
I think he believed a takeover was happening dannybronx and that benteke would stay and we would push on. Now none of that is happening he's off for the money.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Gutted,,,really. Delph what a fool you look now and embarrassment to football world loyalty no such thing, ohh well Villa will always be bigger than you. looks like 40 mil ish deducting Genks 15% sell on fee, hope we get players that want to wear the badge with pride, interesting rumours about Roma players rumoured recently,be happy over those 2 signings if true, who knows anymore we have been through so much as fans its ridiculous

Agree2 Disagree0

17 Jul 2015 18:03:46
The likelihood is that they're both off then so we've roughly got £40m to spend, assuming there's no takeover, & money we've spent so far won't be taken from that £40m, who do we want? Austin for CB? Dembele for FD? Prem experienced players that would cost around £22m leaves us £18m, Amavi £9m, leaves us £9m without any more sales, not that gutted because squad would be better than last year & we've got a better manger too

UTV

Believable3 Unbelievable1

17 Jul 2015 18:49:35

So it seems Benteke's medical is held up because Liverpool think we are a short term loan facility and don't want to pay for Benteke upfront and rather do a payment structure type agreement. Having a laugh for sure.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

17 Jul 2015 17:17:02
Its true!! Delph at man city having a medical, just been on sky sports, very very disappointing. no loyalty!!!! Realy hope adebayor doesn't end up at villa park

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - So will you bleat about any players joining AVFC this summer? No loyalty to their former clubs?}

17 Jul 2015 17:59:53
No just adebayor, think we can better players in,would like hernandez or embolo.thats my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jul 2015 17:52:13
No i will not bleat about players joining aston villa if they improve the team let's see who we sigh ,I think Delph is over rated, and what he said about loyalty makes you cringe

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Jul 2015 17:40:14
Ed that's not fair, the guy just committed his future to Aston Villa a week ago publicly. I'm going to bleat till the cows come home. That really is not on. He should rather have just kept quiet until he had made his choice, instead of messing with all us emotional fans. If he hadn't have done that, I would have wished him well.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Soccerball fans like you will always find a reason to whine. It is exactly the same as a player moving to Aston Villa - no different. Nothing he or the manager says (e.g. "not for sale") matters at all.}

17 Jul 2015 20:40:48
Come on Ed, you know it's not about him signing that is making us "bleat" as you rather unfairly put it. Had if happened last week I would agree entirely with your point but you must see this is a little differently and cut us all a little slack, surely ?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It really is no different - if you hang off every word of players, coaches etc., there would never be any transfers at all.}

17 Jul 2015 21:32:10
I know where you are coming from Ed and as a cynical bugger myself I would generally agree. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that even the brutal, disingenuous, self serving, greedy world of football, there is generally a longer shelf-life to the kind of statement Delph made this week
If this is now to be the norm I think I am going to lose interest in the game all together.
I don't think I'd be alone

Agree2 Disagree0

18 Jul 2015 04:31:27
Bang on Mendax - many of us assumed he would leave this window and if he had gone when City first came in for him then we wouldn't be overly concerned. The fact that he reeled off a bunch of rubbish saying he was loyal to the club only to leave a few days later - that's what annoys us. I don't blame Delph for going, I would do the same thing if it was for that level of pay increase. But the needless speeches are just not on. You don't see us whining about Benteke going. Why? He never said repeatedly and publically that he wanted to stay.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jul 2015 09:44:52
Pretty much the way I see it Andy
What miffs me most, is that as a perfectly intelligent bloke, I swallowed all his loyalty and love for the club and fans pony and trap completely !
I was going around telling people what a "proper, down to earth lad Delph came across as"
Maybe I'm more annoyed at being made to look an idiot. I dunno

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2015 13:40:32
I very rarely whine bud, football is my life and I can't bear to see it become anymore of a circus. I see many other rival fans actually and a few players at other clubs being critical of Delph's behavior so I can see some objectivity. You have to draw an ethical line somewhere and I am glad everyone is vocal that this line has been crossed. Anyway got to sleep on it and I am over it, Villa means more to me.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jul 2015 15:47:46
I copped for a few disagrees on my comments when Delph decided to 'stay' by suggesting that he wasn't in fact loyal - because he had made his interest in leaving known and he had obviously spoken to City and not reached an agreement. So maybe I'm even more of a cynic than you Mendax!

We shouldn't forget though that Delph did do something for us so he is not all bad. By signing a new deal with us last season it gave the fans and players a boost and probably helped us stay up. In addition to that we got 8 million for him when we would have got nothing. The way I see it playing out is that City didn't offer him the wages he thought he would get the fist time round so he played off last seasons loyalty speech to net himself a more lucrative contract.

I would rather it hadn't of panned out that way but we stayed up and have 8 million, and Delph has his move and a lucrative contract - win win.

Look at the guy in the black suit and white shirt, dressed exactly the same at both delph and sterling a medical and present at both about suspect if you ask me. Also on another note I feel that with this new guy stepping in from arsenal he apparently is a buisness genius. Could all of this be publicity stunts to divert attention away from other affairs? Just like the whole benteke to Man U thing? Just thinking outside of the box a little

If fans are going on twitter rampages and insulting him, I think it's only fare this rumour is given a day or two to be explained.

Agree2 Disagree0

17 Jul 2015 15:27:09
Let em both go if they want to chase the money and have a career sat on the bench cus Delph will definitely do that if he goes to city and so will benteke when the scouse style don't suit him and sturridge is fit. We want lads that want to fight for the villa game in game out and a will to win so move em on and bring in the next stars of the villa. Onwards and upwards. No player is bigger than the badge.

big fan of the sight and the community and i've made an account to get my opinion & thoughts across- what is going on with our club? we look like complete fruit loops with this whole delph situation & with benteke most likely leaving also. we have a depleting squad with all these exits occurring and the whole positive vibe going into the new season surrounding the club is slowly decaying. we need serious change or else next year could be a long year

It would appear that TS probably told Delph that Benteke was staying and his decision was based on this fact.
Ben going so Delph is on his way.
Answering a question about the 40m we will get for the two
18malready done and another 9 for another rumour and that leaves 13m which will need another 2m to get Austin. Hope it's not Adebeyour.
In the past when he was at Gunners many players stated that a 25 was a disruptive in the dressing room. Whose number was it?

See we have been linked with Monco striker and U/21 French international Anthony Martial. Looking in the region of 6 Mil might be a bit risky but would be a cracking signing if it pays off.

I think we are going to get linked to a whole host of strikers now, I still think destro for me, he's quality, but we will have to wait and see. Just hope they invest the whole fee

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Roma are trying to find a buyer in England because they can get more money than they can from the Italian side who will become interested after a sale - with interest gone from others he was hawked around in January. To be honest, and I shouldn't say this, but if a deal can be done with either of the interested English sides, you should hope it is not AV as the player is a complete flake.}

17 Jul 2015 13:03:03
Yes, i am also not too keen on Destro, but I hope we could snap up Ljajic he actually made Destro look a lot better than he is.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jul 2015 13:13:48
Martial would be a quality signing and I'd go for another as well even if it is adebayor as long as he took a big pay cut. Some experience in our league would be a bonus. The guy from roma ain't much good. The winger on the other hand is a good player.

Who's going to play Number 10? Gil, super jack, nzogbia (who I hope leaves)
As for strikers, not the end of the world. Sell him to its and do a deal for Hernandez or Wilson. Remy probably available too. Much rather him go to Utd than Liverpool!

Well it looks like LFC are about to sign CB20 and Newcastle are signing Austin. If we had trouble scoring goals last year, how bad will it be without Tekkers and no decent replacement. I'm always optimistic at the start of a season, but with Tekkers gone and no takeover, I think this year might be the year we go down.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Ljajic would be a cracking signing for AV. I don't watch much Italian football but I've been impressed with what I've seen of him.}

16 Jul 2015 17:08:19
Ye, he terrorizes defenses down the left, cuts in well, good on set pieces and strong on his feet. Would work well with a natural finisher like Austin, valued around 8 - 10 mil.

My only wonder is my have Scott Sinclair on the left already, don't see either one of them happy as squad players.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Ljajic can play through the middle as well so perhaps that's where TS sees him.}

16 Jul 2015 17:29:42
Would great to have that versatility then, especially with the amount of injuries we racked up last season. Also only 23 years old. If we get Townsend on the left and possibly Austin that is some serious speed on the front line. Might be pushing the budget though based on the money we may get from Benteke sale.

Local radio were very critical of his touch and nose for goal. I look forward to another lesser known overseas striker becoming the next villa giant! Shame about Austin all the same

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 16:21:11
Could be an interesting situation.
Both LFC & MUFC both showing more than a passing interest in Benteke. We just might get a bit more than 32.5m if they get into a bidding session.
Could Gunners or Chelski also join in then the value might rise significantly.
Benteke would go to either and we end up with a bit more to spend providing Lerner does not close his purse as he has done in the past.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

16 Jul 2015 16:44:32
I am also hoping on a bit of a bidding war, how high could it possibly go though considering Liverpool have been stalling so much. If there are any trades involved I would rather have hernandez than Lambert, if that is an option.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 16:47:52

With benteke looking set to leave I think we should be looking to replace him with two strikers, almost a safer bet rather than putting all your eggs into one basket.
As far as the whole Austin interest goes I'd be looking for a joint deal with QPR which would include Phillips too, a cheaper option than pursuing Townsend who's a great player but overpriced.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

16 Jul 2015 16:25:22

you have changed your tune king villa thought you were confident of a takeover
none of us have a clue just heard howard hodgson talk about he was an advisor for the group that were in second place everything was agreed but the chinese stock market was the cause of the breakdown he says they are still interested but don't know how long it will take also says the group who were ahead of them were further along and due to finalise but pulled out but he don't know who they i think when complications are sorted out a deal will go through but not as quick as we would all like .so it is not completely dead as tim says just delayed so tbd to learner he is getting a good structure in place for the time being . I'm confident we will bring in some quality in the meantime . just think a year ago we had paul lambert now we have a young energetic manager who is very ambitious and won't take no mess .

Agree1 Disagree1

15 Jul 2015 20:27:52
I think it is a good appointment actually, TS is still fairly inexperienced as a manager even though I reckon he has a good future ahead of him. At this point TS strength is working more closely with the players and getting the best out of them. A sporting director will take a lot of the other managerial pressure off of him.

According to my research Almstadt has got some good pedigree and is not one of those image based retired 'star player' director appointments.

Agree2 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 02:05:16
Villa1986 I have give up hope m8 to be honest. The takeover was close and I thought it would be done by now. Could be problems to iron out and lerner is readying the ship incase it don't happen but I just fear it won't happen now and this will roll on another season. Don't get me wrong I'm happy with sherwood and the players we going for so that's a plus point and lerner if stays and is willing to spend on the playing staff is not a bad owner just needs football people round him which he is now starting to get. I'm hoping this will still play out nice for us but not holding my breath now in terms of the takeover.

All we need is a good priced striker. What we need to remember is that Big Ben isn't irreplaceable. There are strikers available (Austin) with a bigger work rate and better consistency than Ben. Put it like this did Randy Lerner use Tim Sherwood to announce that he had given exclusivity to a potential buyer or to pass on any other information regarding the sale of the club "No" is the answer,so why would he use Tim Sherwood to pass on that the deal had fallen through. I don't think Lerner would of done that he is a respectable business man after all who conducts himself likewise and feel certain that he himself would of made it public knowledge long before the story broke.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 09:25:17
You are Wise indeed Old Man! :-)

As you say, you wouldn't expect Tim to announce news like this, or even have that much knowledge about it. If it was definitely off, and Lerner was keeping control, you would expect an statement from someone like Tom Fox or Lerner himself, or maybe even a Press Officer rather than an off the cuff comment from the Team Manager.

I suspect that there is a little bit of 'gamesmanship' going on. Either, Villa put Tim up to it to rattle a few cages with the potential buyers, or TS is being a little mischievous and decided to stir things up a little himself as it must be a frustrating situation for him.

I won't believe it is off until we get an official statement.

Agree2 Disagree1

15 Jul 2015 10:05:34
Or as someone else said, he probably said its off so the players transfer fees we want won't go up an extra few mill because the teams know we have a rich owner etc, for example Sterling cost City 49mil. to anyone else he would have been 30mil (not even worth that tbh)

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 11:10:36
Exactly my thoughts, I can't see Randy saying " by the way Tim, when you next have an interview just slip it in that the deal is off mate " I think it may have just been said as a bit of sarcasm either aimed at the press for continually questioning Tim about the progress or aimed at Lerner because the deal is taking so long.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 21:34:27
Hope your right fellow Villains, but as already stated TS is a bit new in this business and says it how it is, a big money buyer does not mess about and stumps up the odd million which is being squabbled about.

6 weeks is up in my reckoning on 20th July, so maybe hold on until then. It's next Monday after all.

Either way if RL is staying he must understand that he needs to invest to get the mighty Villa rousing again, the TV money has to be speculated.

14 Jul 2015 21:16:09

According to Newsnow, Amavi deal is very close to being done.
Just tidying up a few loose ends, I would be chuffed with this one if it happens as I was not sure he was happy coming to B6, appears he has had a change of mind.
Now we need to get Austin, even if Benny Boy stays, would give us options and potency.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

14 Jul 2015 19:40:11
Have you ever thought about what would happen with all these players that Villa are bidding for at the moment should a super rich buyer were to be announced. Instantly their asking prices would shoot through the roof so I am not too surprised that we are hearing that the deal as fallen through, it could possibly save millions. Also making it appear that we are prepared to keep Benteke makes other clubs realise that they will have to pay 32 million if they want him. There is a lot of games played within football these days, just a thought.

I seem to recollect Randy getting getting back on his jet and flying home when a deal with deadly fell thro, only to fly back a few days later to complete. I am sure there is an element of bluff going on from one party or the other so I wouldn't be too surprised if something contrary were to be announced.

The 6 week exclusivity period was released by the club, timmys comments, albeit maybe 100% accurate, don't hold the same gravitas.

My gut feeling - keep watching this space, because it ain't over till its over.

My thoughts are this Flackie, the deal itself as been shrouded in secrecy since day one with people neither being told anything at all about it's progress nor indeed the buyers identity, so now all of a sudden how is it that everyone is stating that it as fallen through. I have not read anything of this coming from Lerner himself or from anyone who is directly conected to the deal, so until such time that an official statement is released concerning the deal I myself will be remaining sceptical on what I am hearing.

Sherwood said "I think it's dead now, to be honest." Please note the use of the two words "I think" which is not really stating that he knows anything for sure and the press just fill in the blanks to make the story how they wish it to be perceived.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Jul 2015 21:40:50
I reckon you may have a point there, I think Sherwood is pretty clever with his press releases, taking pressure of players etc. I think his statement about Benteke's release clause at the end of the season was masterful. Chased away all the jokers and laid it out straight, either you pay or forget it.

Maybe this is another ploy of his, as you all have mentioned above.

Just listened to Tim sherwoods interview on Fabian Delphi staying and Christian Benteke. He says there was no way delph failed a medical and it was just his choice to stay. He then went on to say that it's up to Villa now to buy in the QUALITY to build a team around Fabian and others. I do actually believe that Tim will only look at quality too. He looked very confident. He also said that Benteke would stay but I just get the feeling he's sending a message out to Liverpool saying if you want him it's £32.5m or no deal, and I get the feeling if Benteke does go he's relaxed as he can get a replacement.

So, let's see this "quality" come in then.

Randy Lerner not on paid 75 mil he has also invested a lot of money into the club finishing what Ellis started. Lerner is a Villa fan and wants the best for the club appointing T S and Fox are massive steps forward he can only invest on the players what the fair play rules alow so if players go so be it I HOPE LERNER STAYS and has some success with our great club. You should support Villa no matter what.

Would love to see this transfer come off. I've only seen a youtube vid of him (and we know how deceiving the highlight reels can be) but he looks to have it all; pace, power, trickery, a pretty vicious slide tackle and a willingness to get forward and make the play happen.

Wouldn't be too upset even without a takeover our transfer budget seems to have improved judging by the players we've bid for, been linked to and purchased. Randy will take a back seat now anyway and a new chairman will be appointed, just hope it's the right person

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Jul 2015 17:16:07
I read the same thing - Randy will be the owner for the foreseeable. Apparently Sherwood also said that 'due to financial fair play' we have to sell before we can buy - so that basically means Tekkers is as good as gone. At least he seems to be putting a little bit more cash in this time around, so at least that's a plus.

this will get shot down to hell but am i the only one that's not happy delph is staying?

hes added that stupid 8mill tag to his contact, soon as one the big clubs comes along he can't jump ship quick enough and from what I've read the only reason the transfer failed was his medical not the fact he want to stay and play football, its only going to take another bid from a big team and we going to have same again

Believable0 Unbelievable2

14 Jul 2015 15:26:57
Well I've heard that he asked for a really low release clause in his contract at City so he could leave if he didn't get game time. They rejected so he pledged his future to the Villa.

I think the chances of delph doing another u-turn is unlikely now no matter who comes in now. Not sure him failing a medical is true but if we do have a new owner come perhaps we should try an offer a bumper deal an get rid of the release clause. More money for him an we can ask what we want. win win really.

Townsend has to be brought now as TS highly rates him. plus where is the takeover?? Just a little info to easy are minds as its getting close to the start of the season and we don't even know who will own us!! 13 Jul 2015 21:11:11
There's a reason why they are so desperate to get rid of him, so much so they are willing to pay pat of his wags to play for a different team - These cast-offs are definitely not what we need to be looking at.

Agree1 Disagree2

12 Jul 2015 06:56:55
I read somewhere earlier that Delph changed his decision because of fan threats, I think this is just gutter press and I don't think that was his reason for staying as I suppose most players that leave a club receive a certain amount of unsavoury comments.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2015 09:04:22
I very much doubt that it would have been because of fan threats. If he was worried Citeh,s owners could afford bodyguard for him! As for the comment "cant see how regular players would fail a medical", if that were the case, why would clubs spend so much money and effort putting players through them if there were no chance of failing them?

I think we should just take it at face value that FB looked at his options including money, playing time, England prospects etc: Weighed all that up against leaving a club he likes and is respected as a player, (and maybe knows there are brighter days ahead for us), and chose to stay.

Well done him because you can be sure the advice from agents would have been to leave. I am delighted he is staying, we were definitely a better team when he was playing last season.

12 Jul 2015 13:50:39
1st time poster, give Delph more money, scrap any buy out clause, build team around him, Richards, Clark, Guzan (not getting credit he deserves, form is temporary, class/desire is permanent) Grealish, Tekkers or Austin, good spine of team, thinking of probable buys for other positions, waiting for takeover 1st. I do think he'll only be staying this year as he knows he'll have to be a regular to stay in the England side for the Euros but credit where it's due. He could have just took the money. Fair play Fabian. Now that's the sort of guy I want wearing the captains armband. Let's build a team around him this summer so that we can have a decent season and make it even harder for him to leave.

I'm glad he is staying too but if you think he is only going to be here until next season why should we build a team around him. What's the point if he goes before the side is even finished. Better off building a team where any player can leave and there is quality cover for the position.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 21:30:11
Again I don't want to sound a killjoy but he is not loyal - he considered going to City. We heard the rumours that he spoke to Micah Richards and from what I heard he wanted a low buyout clause at City as an escape route - probably from the advice Richards gave him. They wouldn't play ball so he didn't sign for them.

Agree0 Disagree2

12 Jul 2015 20:30:19
I have to agree. He was off, failed the medical and is now staying.

To be fair though, he did sign a new contract in Jan with a buy out clause would have given us £8m instead of nothing had he let the contract run down. So I think he gets credit for that.

I don't think anyone can really expect a player to turn down a massive pay rise, even if it means bench time.

This is something to put behind us all now and look forward to next month.

A final note. This tale, and others like it, should make players wary of the actions they take on the road to a new club. Can you image the situation for Sterling should his move to Man C also fall through. By comparison, the actions by FD are positively upfront and honest.

I will have a slice. but to have both delph and gueye in the heart of our midfield I'm buzzing. Happy to keep Guzan in goal most of the goals we conceded last season was due to terrible defending. I think the buyers identity is based on individual guess work and the that the best thing to do is wait and see instead of starting discussions based on speculation.

11 Jul 2015 14:11:03
I think we need to be logical with regards to Delph. Personally I'm gutted he has left, thank him for what he did for the villa last year, and the season before, and hope he plays, and grows with the standard of players he will be with. He shone at villa, looked at times a world beater, one of two things will happen, he will stay as he is, sink at the challenge of being a small fish in every big pond, or, and I hope and actually think that it will be this, that he will keep getting better, improve to the standard he is now playing with, and rule the England midfield.
As regards to his buy out, leaving after signing his new contract, and loyalty?!!
I think we should pat him on back, and thank him for what he has done. He would be leaving for zero, yet because of what the club did for him, stood by him, he stayed, with a buy out, so both the club, and player benefit. Intelligent, unique and fair. I think he meant his speech, and wish him well.
Someone has offered to probably double his pay, play in champions league, and let's be honesty win a trophy so he can hold his head high. He has done nothing no one who is on this page wouldn't of done. And we support the villa, he is from Bradford, and is a Leeds fan!

Thank you Fabian, as with out you we would be a championship side. Good luck, and I will applaud you when you come back to vp.

Been watching the news unfold about Delph and got to say I think it's such a terrible shame and waste, I think it goes to show that footballers behave like MP's nowadays can't trust a word that comes out of their mouth! I think he made it worse we all the "villa is my club " " we want bigger and better things" speech !! But his not irreplaceable and will look like a very small fish in a big man city pond! And will end up on the bench as we have seen before with Milner and Barry! I think the fact Benteke is away in Portugal training with the lads is a good sign? And I hope he stays even if it's just 1 more season think we are owed a little loyalty as villa fans? On the upside another 2 new signings might not be Ronaldo or messi but some decent players in the team just got to get them working better together ! UTV

Although I'm gutted that we're to lose Delph and Benteke I think we need to put this into perspective. Delph is a great player at our level but he's not irreplaceable. As for Benteke, as unplayable as he is in some games he can also be stroppy when the ball isn't passed to him and I feel that this year with all the hype about him he could throw his toys out and believe he's better than our club. To get £40m for the both of them is decent business. Especially considering Delph could have gone for free. Both players leave us at an awful time for them because they're under so much pressure to make their national teams and Delph will struggle at City and bigger players than Christian have failed to live up to expectations at Anfield.
How many of you would swap Delph and Benteke (£40m) for Townsend, cabaye and Austin (£40m approx). I know that Cabaye has gone to palace and I'm gutted we weren't in for him but it shows that there's better out there if we look.
I'm happy for us to clear out the dead wood and get rid of those that feel they're too good for the claret and blue and spend this precious wages on players commited to our wonderful club. Players I'd be after are
Austin (£15m) Remy (£10m) Townsend (£15m) michael Dawson (£4m) Avami (£9m) Praet (£10m) Schmeichel (£10m).
£73m spent but around £45m of that will have come in. £28m spend plus gueye. But we have a quality squad rather than a team of cheap hopefuls. Sorry for the long msg.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 22:37:15
Ashley Young left Aston villa as an England international but soon lost his place. The same goes for Stewart Downing. The last couple of England managers have regularly visited Villa Park to watch our players in what has been a number of difficult and at times awful seasons yet our players are in the frame. Even Tom Cleverly got on the verge of a recall but they all seem to think they can do better only to become bit part players. Even James Milner has struggled to hold down a regular place for both club and country. The only player to bet yet themselves was Gareth Barry. I hate that our best players leave but at the same time I'm happy to keep doubling our money when the mercenaries want to leave.
I have faith in Tim to bring in hungry players but also with a bit of quality too. He doesn't strike me as the type of man to accept 2nd best or to buy someone to make up the numbers. My worry is that if he is successful over the next 2/3 years then Man City will want him too. At least Liverpool won't want him as they normally look at Southampton first.

I really hope you do not spend your best years sat on the bench behind players signed for silly money watching your hopes of England playing time sink with the weight of your wallet. I also hope that your lovely words in January, that really made football fans all over the country think there was loyalty spring up and bite you. Villa will be stronger without a bullshitter like you.

10 Jul 2015 20:26:32
Yeah that speech is what's made this so bitter! Sterling will follow Delph to City and then the scouse will come for Benteke. At least the our recruitment can properly start.

Agree2 Disagree2

10 Jul 2015 21:27:25
Actually thinking about it now - he might have been forced by the club to do that speech to keep the fans and the dressing room positive for the rest of the season. And to be fair it did keep us more upbeat. We are probably being a bit harsh picking that out and tarnishing his character with it.

Agree0 Disagree3

10 Jul 2015 23:15:55
Exactly what I said in earlier posts delph was only being loyal to villa by signing, so we could get money from a sale rather than him walking away on a free!!!

Agree8 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 17:50:00
I'll laugh my ass off if they sign Pogba now. Like so many others he will rot on the bench/reserves and he can wave bye bye to his England place if he isn't getting much game time. I really thought he would end up being one of the main figureheads for England at the Euro's and the next world cup but others are bound to step up and push for his place. I don't mind so much that he is leaving but that big speech mid season about loyalty and the players being like brothers was obviously rubbish and the disingenuousness of it really pisses me off.

Shame about the miniscule amount of money involved, but at least he isn't going on a free and if players don't want to play for the club then good riddance.

I think we all knew that Delph and Benteke would not be with us for the start of next season so I am assuming that Tim as already got plans for replacing them both, so let's just wait and see what the end of the transfer window brings and what becomes of the takeover before getting too disheartened. :-)

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 19:27:29
Yes Delph has been great for the last 2/3 seasons but has been poor before that. I think Delph and Villa are a good fit but he will struggle at Citeh, maybe he should ask some people for advice may I suggest

Scott Sinclair
Adam Johnson
Gareth Barry
Jack Rodwell

All of the above were shining lights for their respective clubs and were used by Citeh to fill their homegrown quota. Sound familiar Fabian??????

Season 2017/2018 Delph will not be at City, I can almost guarantee it.

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 19:32:00
I am very happy Joker, as Smudger said if they don`t want to wear the shirt get rid, nobody is bigger than the club.

They could probably have done a little better with the buyout clause but at least he isn't going on a free.

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 17:53:16
I don't think you understand the situation. In January Villa approached Delph to sign a new contract, he basically said I want to leave but instead of going for free will sign a contract which states Villa have to sell for a fee of £8m if a big club comes in.
Villa probably said make it £20m, Delph said £8m take it or leave it.

Did anyone think he would actually sign a new contract?

Yes he will sit on the bench, yes he's gone for the money, yes he's stupid but let's all be honest it was obvious for the day we agreed to sign Gueye for £9m Delph was off.
He helped us stay up last year so we can't really complain too much in my opinion!

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 18:12:00
Don't worry people I still have faith the takeover will happen and we will have 40 mil to spend from the sales of Delph and big ben plus about another 50 mil from new owner. I might have blind faith but I still feel it's happening. I think it's all down at mo ant looking bad but we will get good news and a big lift.

10 Jul 2015 18:14:21
Disappointing but expected, got £10m for him and had a season out of him, stayed in Prem League and went to Wembley twice! Thanks for the memories but tarra. If we lose FD, CB and RV just remember we were the worst team in the PL not to go down with those 3, so changes may make us harder to beat as will be lot of new players and system?

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 18:17:30
I am not complaining Kenye32, in fact I have never been that much of a Delph fan.
My posts on here show my feelings about him, he could and should do a lot better with the ball when he has it, instead of running round in circles and losing the ball or disappearing up his own backside.
He works hard for sure, but we will be no worse off without him.

Agree3 Disagree0

10 Jul 2015 19:42:08
Sorry Villadave, my post was aimed at Villanick for saying someone needs there ass kicked for the £8m release clause.
They actually need praise for putting it there in the first place, otherwise no £8m and no Gueye coming in.

I think Delph was a hard worker but no where near Man City standard. Like all players looked good for us but not irreplaceable.

Only thing I worry about is who will our Captain be next season now Delph and Vlarr are gone. Not enough experience and quality to lead the team forward.

Let's hope money fromBenteke sake is reinvested and quickly so the team can gel before next month.

Agree0 Disagree0

To tell you the truth, I wouldn't be disappointed if he's sold to Manchester City for £10 million. I really don't think that he has done enough to prove to me that he's good enough for Aston Villa. Besides Villa needs the money from both Delph and Benteke, another player I wouldn't be disappointed for leaving. If Villa received £42,5 million for both players, then Sherwood could sign at least 4-5 quality players. We would need a CB, a LB, an AMR, an AMC and a ST.

When are we going to see Idrissa Gueye put his name on a contract. It is said that he was in Bham last week to sign but zilch.
Should we be awaiting new owner who may be funding this transfer as I don't believe that Lerner would put his hand in his pocket to get the money out?
Something is not right. Exclusivity was given several weeks ago, and even if Lerner likes to play his cards close to his chest all the rumours on here seem like desperate wishes.
Are we being dragged along on false promises?
The players know very little or someone would have leaked information.
Many on here claim to have "heard". From a distant relative who has to remain nameless but we still know nothing!

Although i was a bit angry over Delph you can see what he has done, he could of left for nothing but signed new contract at least we'll get 10 mil, Vlaar i would rip up contract offer be on your way "move to a bigger club" thanks but no thanks i don't hear of any intrest yet but see ya, If no take over as long as lerner puts the 42.5mil back into the club we can buy at least 5/6 quality players. I like the players we are being linked with and seems TS looks like he is really trying to get some great potential players. If there is a takeover imminent i would be well happy but if not its not so bad like i said if Lerner does not pocket the money. Thx :)

09 Jul 2015 10:52:46
There is NO-ONE in exclusivity! it was rumoured there were 3 bids.
1. HH and Ian Taylor with Chinese backing
2. Very rich mystery US buyer
3. Paul Smith consortium.
Paul Smith lot can only raise half the asking price and plan on putting the rest as loans against the club, so we can rule them out.
The mystery US bidder I think is a con by Lerner and Fox to get the real bid get a move on. The reason no one knows who they are is because maybe they don't exist.
That leaves HH and the China Equity Group, this bid has hit a major stumbling block with the Chinese government red tape. its looking like another season with Lerner in charge.

Agree4 Disagree4

09 Jul 2015 13:10:09
it was well publicised that exclusivity was granted around June 8th. I am sure if that group were no longer interested then Randy would want it in the public domain so that other interested parties would be aware. remember he doesn't want to go into this season as owner so why would he lie ? until they announce something or the 6 weeks is up we are just a bunch of mushrooms.

Hmm - If you were going to hold a rallying cry to get staff up for the season ahead, wouldn't you do it a little closer to the start of the season, Maybe the week before rather than 4 weeks before?

However, I can't believe any meeting would have been about the takeover because they would have to inform the press at the same time or immediately afterwards to ensure the 'right' message was published.

It was probably something else like "How do we maximise season ticket sales in the current climate of uncertainty?", or "Have we got the right number of support staff in place for a club of this size?"

Hi All
I'm new to posting on here but have been actively watching for a while.
I am very dubious about posting as I don't like getting things wrong but I have some information that might be interesting to you all.
I have a friend that works as a technician at Villa Park and I spoke to him yesterday afternoon.
He did not confirm to me about a meeting taking place, avoided to answer when I spoke to him but he did tell me it is mayhem at Villa Park at the moment as everyone has been told to make the place spotless, as if royalty was coming!
Make of that what you will but I am hoping something soon will happen regarding the takeover.
Looking at the fact Vlaar has still not made a decision on his contract offer and not signed for anyone else as a free agent, £9m being spent on 1 player before the sale of Benteke I honestly believe a takeover is imminent.

Could this mean good bye Ben?

Apparently he isn't due back until Wednesday so this could be reason for him not attending the kit launch. Looks a bit dodgy to me tho.

07 Jul 2015 22:16:11
You never get a full team at kit unveiling. Only select few. Big Ben could very well be on his way though but I wouldn't read to much into him not being at the kit unveiling there was many players who wasn't there.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 22:50:44
There was five players in these pics.
That mean we selling everyone and are playing five aside???
Can read what you want into every situation that you see.
Re Big Ben, I think he is a clever man, and will make his mind up after announcing the ownership/investment

Agree1 Disagree0

Tom fox is meeting all staff to announce how the club will go forward. I think we may here as early as Thursday.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 21:42:17
If Fox is announcing how the club are to go forward, then presumably staff will either be told that Lerner will still be the owner or we've/we're to be taken over by XXX. It just makes me wonder due to buying Sinclair, offering 9m for Gueye, rumours about offering Amavi 9m, being linked to Townsend (Spurs wanting 15m) large amounts of money in terms of Villa's recent spending over the last 3/4 seasons and I can't see Lerner ploughing that money in. Either way, I think all needs to be revealed soon and as a whole the club need to progress quickly so we know whwere we stand with Benteke/Delph so we have enough time to buy replacements ready for training!

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed030's Note - I suppose any prospective new owner will want to get the deal done as soon as possible, as it may change some things if certain players are sold this summer or any other problem arises. }

I got to say the vast majority of this highlight reel is tap ins. I admit the boy is in the right place at the right time and if the price is right give the boy a go but you have to remember dominating a defence in Switzerland is a lot different from dominating a premier league defence. He could certainly learn an awful lot from benteke.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

07 Jul 2015 19:00:59
Gil should be given the chance to show what he can do! But I feel adebayor Could be a waste or time and money would much prefer seeing us go for someone like Austin or Wilson

Agree1 Disagree1

07 Jul 2015 19:41:33
Can understand why Tim is going for Adebayor after how he played for him at Spurs just hope it's a short term deal with an option for the club to extend and a basic salary made up with performance related bonuses. Make him earn his money!!!!

Everything on hold I am being told with regards to Fab and Ben, Villa not discussing a bean until 14/07 when the 6 will be up for due diligence. Been told it's Larry Ellison who is buying us.

Sherwood needs to clarify that Villa's two best players are on board before we start to mould team. Avami is looking good, and Chery is a done deal, all have been bankrolled by the new owners.

I think waiting for the takeover would be the smart thing to do for Benteke and Delph because I would want to know what I was leaving behind before I made a decision to jump ship, it could be a decision you later regret so it makes sense. Could also be the real reason why Vlarr as gone quiet too, However with agents wanting to cash in and make quick bucks and X-Liverpool players trying to get a bargain buy who knows what they will be persuaded to do.

So villa, West Ham and Newcastle are all after Townsends signature for 15million.i really hope the announcement this/next week or soon in the future gives Tim cash to sign players like these.sick of waiting for games like Leicester, Bournemouth and thinking we might grab a draw if we are lucky! Hoping we have a up and up season! Start with safety way before the last 2 games!

Townsend is a class act, but depends who buys us to whether or not we can gain his interest.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 19:48:55
I agree joker, but making a solid bid and going all out for what you want speaks volumes to players.i would offer Big Ben for Townsend (15million), k walker (8million)and a few million.if players want to leave (Big Ben/delph) then I think if the passion ain't there for the club and we ain't going to get 100% then I would rather get the best deal for them! Delph for kolorov??

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 20:25:08
I really hope this takeover happens soon i actually have a very good feeling about what's coming you only have to look at the players we are being linked with to realise something is going on. completely different to the last 3 depressing years buying average player from league 1 now we are being smart and going for european talent.hope this gut feeling i have about the takeover turns out to be right fingers crossed

So everyone seems to think that a takeover is happening. An by what people have put its likely that its a person with mega money. Got a funny feeling in my stomach that its onwards an upwards from here guys, the sleeping giants can rise again an be back where we belong because I truly believe that a club like the villa should be up there amongst the best.

Amen

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Jul 2015 20:18:45
Again, I don't want to be the one who seems negative but the reason why these billionaires are so rich is because they are the best business minds in the world. What sense does it make for someone like Arison to come in and spend 100 million on players when he knows full well he won't get it back, and we still won't win anything? I would prefer if someone were to come in and gradually improve the teams overall standing and business model over the next 5-10 years which would leave us in a fantastic position when the owners come to sell, to remain a powerhouse for years to come.

Big Picture guys.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Jul 2015 21:10:24
Completely agree andyvilla. I don't expect a man city or chelsea senario I just want villa to compete again. Unfortunately In this day an age you need to spend moneyto compete or at least avoid the dogfight. Having said that, not saying we spend 50m in this window an everything is hunkie doorie, its going to be a process an probably slow one at that. But it needs to start somewhere an quick because we are being bypassed and an overtook by teams that through all my life I consider inferior. As I said an I stand by it we should be up there with the best.

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Jul 2015 22:25:56
No doubt Fordy, we should be up there with the best of them. Purely from a logistical mindset, we are the largest club with the best history in the second biggest city in the country. Really we should be in the top four and challenging each season, but somewhere along the line we haven't been build up as a business in the same way. Of course we will need a heavy initial investment but it has to remain somewhat within our means. The first thing we need to do is hold on to our best players, so we can at least build from a solid foundation.

Guzan
Walker, Richards, Okore, Amavi
Sanchez
Delph Gueye
Grealish. Sinclair
Benteke

If delph was to stay then i'd say we would have a pretty solid starting line up. Benteke is in because I couldn't think of a striker to replace him and still remain optimistic about him staying (yeah right). What you think though guys. Not too costly and very realistic.

Agree2 Disagree1

05 Jul 2015 17:08:25
I'm not a great lover of Sanchez to be honest I think he gives the ball away far to much for us and I think we still need another cb but apart from that I'd be happy with those players.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Jul 2015 17:23:33
Apparently he had neymar in his pocket at copa America. If he can regain that form then I'd love to say he could be a big player. I think your right about a centre back though but who would you buy?

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2015 19:07:31
I've always liked Shawcross if he had someone with pace next to him but don't think Stoke would sell. Proven in the league is a big thing at cb for me so they can slot in. Not to many boys in that position. I think for example richards has the pace if you could land a Shawcross they could form a solid partnership. As a alternative I'd go for aderweld if we could persuade him of our project.

Ok folkes this is it and I hope you all agree no player is bigger than there club no matter what and if Delph and benteke wants to leave then so be it I hope they Google aston villa rumours and see these posts because as a football fan and a villa fan I hope you stay I'm not the only one to say it but there are millions out there who say it too, they are good and really good because they play for the villa a club that as brought them on leaps and bounds the same with Kyle walker, James Milner, Ashley Young etc etc they will only shine for us because the club will play around you move away boys and drop your standards because the big teams don't care if that's what you want but there is only one big genuine club in the premier and that's the mighty villa should be proud to put on the shirt

Again lads it's loyalty and I know u all think same old same old but they need to take a leaf out of gabbys book cus a few seasons ago he could of easily been an arsenal player right or wrong

How can we have any problem with this lad?? And how can you have any suggestion he has dropped standard or talent since leaving??

And gabby an arsenal player??? Really?? I play average Sunday league football, and he would struggle to get in my team, let alone arsenal.

Sorry but fickle and nieve come to mind. Last season Villa were the worst team not to get relegated, we offer very little to big players.
And if you were offered more money to do the same job elsewhere with a much higher chance of silverwear, trophies etc. what would you do? Loyalty does not exist in football, money talks.

Agree8 Disagree1

03 Jul 2015 11:02:00
According to some tabloids tday Delph is close to man city move, this would be the biggest blow of all this summer, and proof there really is no loyalty any more

Believable1 Unbelievable1

03 Jul 2015 12:53:10
I've just spoken to my Citeh mate, travels everywhere with them, has some limited insider info. He says that Delph has been told he'd only be a squad player, to expect the same sort of game time as Milner thereby risking his England Euro place- just about the money!
My mate says that Delph did us a favour signing up at Xmas or he'd be gone for nothing!

Agree1 Disagree1

03 Jul 2015 13:51:39
I actually met Delph last week in a Prezzo Restaurant in Leeds. He was with his wife and kids and mum. I thanked him for signing last year and he was non committal about any move away. I did wonder why he was not on his holidays and Leeds is only 50 miles from Manchester - but he from Bradford originally so could just have been a family visit. Hope we don't lose him.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jul 2015 14:26:57
May be blind faith but I honestly don't think Delph is stupid enough to be lured by money and rot at City. He seems like he's got his head screwed on and will do the right thing for his career but we'll see

Hate to say it but i think he will be gone in 24 hours. Numerous reports that he has agreed a pre contracy deak for £100,000 pw. Hope its wrong but got a feeling he will take the money and run. shows the state of football if he is happy to be a squad player and that's all he will be. Gutted.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why does he need a work permit anyway? we have thousands of immigrants already living and working in the UK without even a genuine passport. hell, they will probably give him a free house too

Just seen reports we have bid for Dennis praet

03 Jul 2015 09:11:34
If we have it could be a great signing. Young talented midfielder who should do well for us. Fingers crossed this is the start of a sensible restructuring of the squad with rising stars instead of below average league 1 players.

boys i no i just messaged on this but my friend as just seen tjaronn cherry at villa park looks like its gona be a double signing with gueye that's my ! just watch remember who told you

02 Jul 2015 16:34:44
My friend at the villa told me that sherwood likes heaton at burnley also garbutt on loan there is more talk of kyle walker villa have made a enqury but that's all so far players out is looking more like loans for helenus luna aly cissoko an guess what people joe bennett is staying at villa. so villa are trying to buy players so happy now god this club gives us so many ups an downs!

Believable2 Unbelievable2

02 Jul 2015 16:50:03
Heaton won't happen mate as he just signed a new deal at Burnley Burnley, garbutt is all in the press, and like I said yesterday it's just another left back we are being linked to. Helenus will get a free transfer back to Denmark.

Hey peeps, just to let you know what I have heard. Take it or leave it.
Delph does NOT have a release clause just an agreement he is allowed to talk to clubs in the Champions League. Fee still has to be agreed.
Benteke looks like he is staying. Liverpool will not pay more than 20 million however do not be suprised if other clubs bid.
As for players coming in, I know their is a lot of contact with Spurs and at least two of their players. I believe Kyle Walker is one but the fee may be around 8 million.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

02 Jul 2015 17:52:28
If the fee for Walker is 8 million then we should just stump up the cash and buy him. Its false economy constantly buying crap Rb/Lbs and not using them, loaning them out and letting them go for free.

02 Jul 2015 23:32:51
Hi avfcagent, I'll let you in on a little secret. Any player can talk to any club with or without permission, that's just how it is, players get tapped up by other teams all the time.

Just herd villa bout to sign gue and cherry.plus maybe cambiasso that would be a shrewd signing anyone no anything bout the other to players

Idressa Geuye is in Brum. This will be a great signing, because I believe Delph will NOT leave.
This could turn out to be a really good close season.

02 Jul 2015 12:46:22
Could be we still need a lot more players thou including three strikers

Agree1 Disagree1

02 Jul 2015 13:37:51
imo delph will be gone this summer think that's why ts is looking at midfield not just to replace cleverly, my thoughts are delph signed a new contract as a thank you to villa for sticking by him during his injury so they can get some money from any sale instead of walking away on a free that's probably why the release clause is only 8/10 mil just my opinion. q man citeh!!

Valencia's Rodrigo would be an epic replacement if Benteke leaves, but I don't think it's going to happen!

Believable0 Unbelievable2

02 Jul 2015 11:15:10
He only signed permanently for Valencia a couple of weeks ago so doubt it, great player though

I've heard these rumours too, just seems we are being linked with every left back around at the moment, would prefer Robertson or the Ajax left back personally, will just have wait and see

02 Jul 2015 08:08:23
@VillaSWE I think it would just be a waste of money. Take a look at his fathead page.

Gueye to fly in tomorrow for his medical and complete a 9 million pound move to villa park. Thoughts guys.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

01 Jul 2015 22:45:23
Gueye is a box to box midfielder. So maybe it is a replacement for delph. On the other hand wouldn't it great if he was cleverley replacement. here's hoping ay!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2015 08:10:58
9 million seems a bit much, he is a meh player. Good dribbling and ball control though.

Agree0 Disagree2

02 Jul 2015 08:12:06
No way he could replace Delph or Cleverly sorry.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Jul 2015 09:11:32
Why not? I hope he can replace cleverley given we're paying 9mil for the kid. If he slots in next to delph all the better.

02 Jul 2015 12:42:25
Anyone can replace cleverly he was useless

Believable1 Unbelievable0

01 Jul 2015 21:55:59 Let's hope not, let's hope he is to slot in with Delph and make us better not just loose and replace and never move forward.

I hear Liverpool have signed another player clyne from Southampton to be perfectly honest i don't think it matters how many players they buy they will be like man City in the champions league never compete with the best and I think Liverpool do the same in the premier league yes they finished second a couple of seasons ago but I really don't think Rodgers will ever get it right just my thoughts

Believable1 Unbelievable0

01 Jul 2015 17:43:27
They only finished second because of Luis Suarez too (and remember he was there before Rodgers was appointed), and the players they are bringing in are nowhere the same quality.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Jul 2015 17:56:33
With respect mate. Who cares ?
This is a Villa site.
I can understand the chatter about the Red Scouse if it relates to their pitiful media driven efforts to sign Benteke.
But other than that I would have thought anything else is irrelevant.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Jul 2015 20:07:14
True Mendax - but as a fan of football in general its nice to occasionally discuss the opposition too. And it makes up for the lack of stuff going on at Villa at the moment. Should really heat up when/if the takeover happens and an official announcement is made.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jul 2015 20:25:20
I know what you mean mate. How many books do they have to look at before any prospective bidder makes a decision
As a business, football clubs would seem to be pretty straight forward in terms of establishing your assets and liabilities are
Makes you wonder if it's just a smoke screen for transfer inactivity

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jul 2015 21:25:11
Hi mendax,I know where your coming from mate but being a football fan it's a bit heartbreaking when a massive club like us is selling our best players to the likes of Liverpool and then being made a laughing stock for making a bid for a Stoke goal keeper it really does get your back up so a bit of bitterness to Liverpool yes mate and I really hope my prediction of Liverpool not doing anything really does stand up

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jul 2015 21:49:22
I'm starting to think the same mate.

If I was a serious buyer, and any serious buyer knows they need to invest as the playing staff is bottom five at best, you would want it finished BEFORE start of transfer window, and definitely before pre season starts.

I'm starting to think, here we go again.

01 Jul 2015 23:06:41

Hearing rumours going around today that we have made another bid for Begovic. I really hope so, he's scored more goals than all of our attackers put together!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Jul 2015 11:32:58
Hearing that reports from Talkshite that Liverpool have agreed a deal for Benteke and for it to be announced today or tomorrow are well wide of the mark. No fee has been agreed and the player and his agent are out of the country at the moment. So unlikely it will happen. yet anyway

Believable1 Unbelievable0

01 Jul 2015 10:39:03
Liverpool agreed a fee for benteke!! If he went to Chelsea or another big club I wouldn't mind but LIVERPOOL??? Why?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

01 Jul 2015 10:52:20
Not heard anything! 100% is that?

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Jul 2015 10:56:44
The deal I'm hearing we have agreed is 28 million and borini. I really hope this ain't true. I'd rather have the 32.5 mil and hope tim has a decent replacement lined up to come in straight away. I'd take Austin all day if we can get for 15 million leaving us 10 mil for townsend and 7.5 towards begovic.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Jul 2015 11:19:26
I'm not shocked by the lack of Champions league club interest in him he's good but not excellent and I personally don't think he's got it in him to be the premier league winning striker.
Its all about opinions but for me if true he will be yet another expensive Rogers disappointment which he will be judged by.

Agree0 Disagree1

01 Jul 2015 11:28:36
I would take the 28mil plus Borini and be done with it rather than having to listen to the stories of Benteke leaving all summer (again). I completely agree with Kingvilla use the 28mil to buy 3 players that would improve the quality of the 1st team the players mentioned are also realistic acquisitions (depending on whether Begovic is happy to sit on Chelski's bench or play 1st team football). Then use whatever funds that have been made available to go and buy 2 decent full backs which we have been crying out for for years now.

I would personally take a punt on Glenn Johnson on a free

Agree2 Disagree1

01 Jul 2015 11:39:20
I just red Liverpool won't meet the fee. Not saying it won't happen because I honestly think it will. Would rather the cash though. Not keen on borini.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Jul 2015 11:49:25
I'm hearing no Deal at all that's from both Birmingham and Liverpool local papers

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jul 2015 12:09:03
Borini is pants! Never made it at Liverpool who has a better team than us but you never know. TS has to go all out for Townsend as he's a great player just doesn't get enough game time.i also agree with max as glen Johnson could still do a job.strenghten the defence a lot with him and Richards.if players don't want to play for the villa then let them leave.id rather have someone that's wants it more than someone that turns up to get paid!

Agreed he is a good player but at the end of his career however we need leaders in the team and his experience could be invaluable even if it is for only 1 season. Look at what he did for Leicester at the end of last season.
