Rumours are circulating that Lazio are about to make an offer for Vlaar, the offer is expected to be around 7mil.
Also Middlesbrough are showing an interest in Lowton, not sure about how much.

I say JOG ON to Lazio.

His representative has said there is no truth in lazio talk, once again all paper talk, they said they were unwilling to spend 7million euros on him, he will meet the rest of the team Saturday let's just see what happens, please don't believe everything you read in papers. There is always speculation in villa signing players, however the only speculation on the 3 we have signed was when they were having their medicals!!!

I would not sell lowton to anyone. If lambert had of played him last season more he would have gone to the World Cup with England.

It's probably a bit of both

I would say at one time the season before people were talking about lowton to arsenal. Then he is late for training by 10 minutes and is dropped from the team. For me lowton is the best right back we have at the club and in a good defence would only get better. He came from Sheffield United so it is a big step up for him.

I've spent the last two years watching matt lowton play week in week out at VP, and maybe it was the previous year of watching alan hutton play but matt lowton is leagues past both hutton and bacuna in the wing back role. His crossing is now probably the best in the squad now Lambert has let albrighton leave, consistently a top performer from the team and yes he has defensive weaknesses but for a 24 year old he has a lot of potential as shown by arsenals interest in him after his first season. To let him go now would be a stupid as selling benteke to someone like Newcastle because his second season did not live up to his first. UTV

A couple of years ago one of the ED's stated that Lowton and Westwood would both play for England. So we all get it wrong.

To whoever said Lowtons fans ob didn't see the Chesterfield game and has a load of dislikes for it. I am a massive Matt Lowtin fan. Thought he was our best player 2 years ago and couldn't understand y Lambert never played him last year. till I went to Chesterfield. The previous poster is spot on! He got skinned by lower league players time after time and his first touch was terrible. It was embarrassing.

I think lowton could be one of PL better signing if so time was spent with him, he is not the greatest defender i've come acroos but is a good attacking full back, got to be better than "i don't know how to defend bacuna "

I saw over10 games featuring grealish and carruthers and neither wereany good, sloppy and wasteful unableto beat their man and totally absent for vast periods of the games, neither are enough , for the first team, nor was young@sicknote gardener, who looked average at bestcompared to his crappy no good bluenose br

Don't mean to name drop but spoke to Charlie Nicholas again today. He said Lambert has be offer around the 20m mark 3 times off 3 different clubs recently For benteke. Apparently PL said he couldn't get a better striker for that amount of money. Thoughts? Fordy.

Benteke has been quoted today in one newspaper saying that he wants to stay and has no intention of leaving the club. let's hope this is correct.
Also we are about to offer Vlaar a new contract worth 10 million pounds over 4 years. Can we actually afford such a sum? Much as I want him to stay that seems a bit excessive to me. Any thoughts?

Too many rumours on here! seems like everybody is writing what they want and not what is actually true.
Does anyone really think the club is going to be sold? Heard about the 1st Aug on about 40 different occasions, and it's getting very boring now.
Why not just wait and see what really happens! Who do you honestly think wants to buy a club in this sort of turmoil? I have been a fan of AV for 27 years and never seen things so bad.
If anything does happen with the sale PL need to be the first to go, that's for sure! WORST AV manager I can remember by a long long way.

Venglos, Gregory, O'Leary, McLeish etc etc. PL has done a decent job given the resources he has been given, and the comparative spending power of other teams (west brom gave spent £10m on one player for crying out loud). Also if anyone thinks Spurs are going to give us holtby, Dawson AND cash for Vlaar, who has only 12 months on his contract, you must living on another planet

There isn't much in Dawson an Vlaar's ability, both as good as each other, both can make mistakes, both can have dominating performances on their best days, but Holtby is quality!

I have heard we are looking at Evian midfielder Daniel Wass.
He is a Danish international and signed from Benfica in 2012, following a loan spell.
He has two years left on his current deal at Evian and is believed to be keen on a Premier League move to enhance his international career.
Apparently Evian are resigned to losing Wass and offers of around £3million might be enough.
It stated he was a fullback but has since reverted to midfield and scored 9 in 38!

I have read this report to, not to keen to be fair, was hoping for ki, but he is waiting for a better offer, that will prop not come, ah well his loss, good news to here the mighty Delph wants to stay, and fair play to lambert for sticking to his guns regarding vlaar, I do hate manager declaring interest in players, that's what Benitez did with Barry, it just unsettles them.

Have now seen that spurs are in for vlaar, however this is by far the more interesting as reports suggest they are willing to offer holtby, Dawson, cash and possibly a loan signing to, not sure how true as it's from the mirror, but it's a good offer if true

If that deal is true and goes through, it could be the best thing to happen to us this seasson.

Wondering if any rumours on Tonev. Not in squad for the tour of America.

Going to be off loaded due to crapness

Tonev was going to be on the flight under one condition. Due to cuts in spending randy asked Tonev to earn his flight by finding at least ten match balls that he shot out of villa park last season whilst attempting long shots from 40 years.

While I am no great fan of either Tonev or Luna, not two of our more inspired signings, I do think that the way the club appears to be treating them both shows that the stubborn Lambert never learns anything. He is doing the same with these two as he previously did with the 'bomb squad' and he has ended up eating humble pie there. No player deserves to be treated the way he treats them. I'll bet no one treated him like that in his playing days.

Lambert said to be looking at Mohamed Salah on a loan if possible, apparently there is some truth in the Ashly Young rumour too, second choice loan if Salah isn't available??

Salah will probably be going back to egypt for national service, so doubt it very much

Well, I did ask for the latest implausible rumour and on another posting site for Villa I've just seen someone say that Southampton are to offer 2 million for Vlaar. It gets worse, it really does.

Lets be honest, every club with any sense will be looking at Vlaar. PL or whoever should stick a value on him that reflects his performance at the W/Cup. Some players are moving for amazing sums so what is Vlaar worth? To us £20/30m as without him we are in the sh--. So do we let him go if an offer comes in somewhere near these figures or will PL sweet talk him as he did Benteke last year at a similar time.
With Okores and Vlaar together at the back and possibly Splenderous as a back 3 we would have a strong defence. Many of the best at W/Cup played a solid 3 and if PL went this way the lack of quality full backs would be a bit negated especially as Hutton now seems to be willing to pull his finger out if reports are true.

I agree here, yeah he he's 1 year left on his contract, but his World Cup performance elevated his stock 25m I'd say, especially as luis had a howling tournament and went for 50m. Hutton made a real difference the other night as well

There is no way anyone would pay more than £8-10 million max for vlaar with only a year left on his contract. And that's being generous. I personally think his World Cup performances have been way hyped up - the Argentina game aside (where he was truly excellent) I didn't think he particularly stood out. in the group stages especially he gave the ball away cheaply and didn't look very assured. Anyone thinking we can get £20 million for him are living on another planet. I think he is important to us however, and by all means let's slap a hefty price tag on him to scare people off. But if anyone is serious about cashing in on him at this point, then we will only be looking at a relatively small fee. He's not that young anymore also remember. I've said elsewhere that he'd be a reliable, cheapish option for other teams right now. He's not going to generate a massive transfer fee.

The Ki deal is dead in the water apparently, sources say Lambert pulled the plug when Ki wanted to see what other offers are on the table, Lambert has a reputation of not putting up with non-fully committed players, good news is money is available for the right players, hearing alternatives are lined up in Vullnet Basha and Valon Berisha

Apparently Aston Villa's RK wants to bring Niang from AC Millan on a 1 year loan deal promising his parent club more game time for the player, Zaha & Smalling to be purchased in a cut price deal maybe involving Vlaar going the other way {hope not our star Concrete Vlaar missed a pen but still a star}.

West ham offering a lot more money than villa

The experience what be great and but again ain't this a free transfer of a player that just wasnt thought to be good enough for the team he's already at?

Is it just me or has there been a systematic ignorance of the quality and age of player be linked here or brought in? albeit a club in a sale transitional period or not.

The only way Lerner can prove his statement that he returned in the interim to focus on Villa, is to invest in Young Quality players that will improve the team, without costing a fortune to preserve his asset pre-sale which the whispers are that the sale is closer that we think.

Before some of you slate my suggestion of of young quality, rem we have experience in abundance, if you doubt me look at our current squad including Cole/Richardson/Senderos to name a few. and one of these Joe is actually not bad but also not 22.

It's terribly sad that Lerner abandoned his faith in the young way forward thinking of Lambert, the idea was right the execution wrong which was totally based on the standard of players purchased, Lambert got all but 2 BigBen/Bacuna wrong.


In any other club he would have been sacked, however there is a bit of gratitude as he could have walked during this summer of disarray.

Now he has to get more importantly the quality spot on, every player that comes in now has to be better than the player in that position by a mile even if they are loans,

Defour/Kiyatoke/Atsu/Diaby/Abdularaham/Wellbeck/Zaha/Joe Cambell.

The options are endless even in our dire financial position, but the question is has "Last Legs" Lambert learnt his lesson and gets in quality additions loans or buys.

Outs-Hutton/Luna/Sylla/Luna/Bent/Gabby/Given/Karim/Herd/Nzogbia

I think that Cambiasso would be our best signing so far, if his wage demands aren't too high for Villa, as he was earning at least £130k per week when he was at Inter.

If Lambert fails to sign Cambiasso, then I think that he should try to sign either Defour or Parker.

Both Cambiasso and Defour are natural defensive midfielders. Parker is a natural central midfielder, but can play well as a defensive midfielder.

All three are very hard working players, and I would be glad of signing anyone of them. Any thoughts, lads?

We've got quality young players coming through the youth system! Look at Grealish, Gardner, Robinson, Burke, Carruthers, Johnson, Donacien etc. Players like these won us the next gen series. We need some experienced players to come In around them and let them learn from them.

Some rumours today that Villa may be looking to put a bid in for Ki from Swansea (on loan at Sunderland last season) - reports vary of a bid anything from 2m to 6.5m - and 'apparently' not on a huge wage (after Celtic and Swansea) and therefore may fit our budget

Not sure how much credence to give to this rumour although I do rate him as a ball playing midfielder who can score goals

I have heard this rumour too. He is a very decent player and can play the ball out from the back. And has the strength. Another rumour that might be interesting is Stephane M'Bia the former QPR man.

There is nowhere near like that amount to spend on transfers.

There is no sign of a buyer. Even if there was someone, due diligence would take months to complete.

Its possible that Lambert might persuade Lerner to release some more funds but given that Lambert is clearly trying to offload players to raise funds, this is unlikely.

I am no Lerner hater - he has invested more than enough money nor am I a Lambert hater but its going to be a tough ride.

I'm not sure where any of this money from player sales is going to come from. Everyone who has left us so far, of the players Lambert is looking to offload, are going out on loans - so far Helenius and Sylla.

I'm not exactly happy with the signings but I'm realistic, I would have preferred Colback Lescott etc signed on free's but we know the wage budget isn't allowing for that.

Senderos, Cole an maybe Richardson are experienced players who will be an improvement so we can at least be hopeful of having more leadership.

An there is still £10m to spend if reports are to be believed, so no reason why we can't get a quality player or 2 later in the transfer window.

I'm never one to get worked up an be negative in pre season, especially when I'm fully aware of our situation, I can't quite understand why others can't understand.

I don't think any funds will be available for new players till the new CEO is in place, with Faulkner going this shows that their something afoot and I'm expecting new owners soon.!

Why would we want these two? Firstly they are both wingers so both play in the same position and neither of them are any better nor any improvement on several players- sorry, dross - we already have on the books.
If there IS actually any money available for new players, at least let's spend it wisely for heavens sake.
