Carroll is a useful player if you can get the ball to him (like Bent). Last season showed us that we should probably work on getting the ball to the strikers before we go and spend a fortune on a striker. Although, if Lambert feels confident that he can bring a couple of attacking midfielders or wingers in, it's not every day you get to sign someone of Carroll's calibre for £15m, so it's a tricky one in my opinion.

Rumour has it ron vlaar was at villa park and we are interested in him, but so are 4 other clubs apparently, liverpool maybe 1, everton, and 2 unknown london clubs, so he might be visiting each of these clubs all this week. He landed birmingham from amsterdam so villa was 1st to visit, ends up in london then goes bk home. I think it might be QPR and Tottenham, not 100% on the teams

Tbh I think we could profit a lot off feyenoord just like a lot of clubs and Leeds a few years back they have some brilliant young players in there first team such as Stephen de vrig cb, jordan clasie, highly rated k.mokotjo, and Dutch u21 left back nelom, I also remember guidetti who was on loan from man city scoring 15+ goals and he's only 19. 5 mil would probably land him and is more proven in a top division than Rhodes and a bit cheaper

Liverpool have rejected Newcastle's approach to take Andy Carroll on loan. The reason coming out of Liverpool is because they are in talks with Aston Villa about a permanent transfer as PL has been tracking him and has waited to make his move.

Villa won't sign him because we haven't got the funds to blow on one player who hasn't proven himself in the Premiership.

Bent wasn't named captain due to him being the most senior, Marshall would have taken it if that was the case. Bent took it cause he asked/volunteered to take it. {Ed043's Note - not in age but the status of the player as the most senior or highest rated player}

I would just like to say that we are in a different world to I'd say maybe 7/8 other teams at the moment and we can not seriously compete in the transfer window with these teams, I understand PL might have a kitty of 20m to spend throughout the hole of the season + money he makes on sales but the wages are the prime factor. PL is trying to buy hungry young lowish wage players to maybe sell on for a bigger price tag, but I think everybody knows that experience is so important in the premiership and without that any team could get dragged into a dog fight come April/May. Yes we do need fresh young talent and mr PL will hopefully sort it but a few experienced players are a must, so owen as pay as you play deal would be great (he has to produce the goods or no play no pay) we've lost petrov, almadi 1st season here so midfield is looking really young and I think needs an athlete with premiership experience ie do what it takes to get milner bk. Even on loan untill jan if necessary. Almadi, milner, island, carruthers for the centre rolls. I know milner is a long shot but why not try.
But I'm sure PL as got it all under control and it seems there's a real buzz about the place , but it might take a bit of time, so be patient all villa fans. Good times ahead.

I am a Norwich fan....as you all know Lambert managed us in the prem for a year and kept us there comfertbly, we only had a couple of players with prem experience, he has a touch of magic when it comes to getting the most out of players, but in turn the players must be willing to preform, he will choose hungry players who give it there all.
You will struggle to get an overpaid established player who is just in it for the money to give it there all.....at Norwich the players were on almost equal wages no animosity between them and they played together for each other, that was plain to see.
Forget your big name signings let the boss do it his way, I know Villa's expectations are higher than ours but I belive lambert will produce the goods in time.....at least you will get some positive attacking football to watch which is better than the drivel you played last year.

How is saying we won't be involved in many signings a reasonable shout? Think about it. Why would they leave there clubs and millions they get to come to us! I think you will find we are starting at the bottom, going back to basics with the good, but not spectacular players we have and will sign this summer. This season we will consolidate, gain respect and then attract better quality players. The history and name of our club will only carry you so far. We will not pay big wages to pampered pooches any longer. Only arsenal have found success with low wages but over the last few years they are all gone to either city or elsewhere for the money. I think Gabby deserves another chance personally!
2 seasons he has been out of form - what happened in those 2 seasons .. Houllier: used him as a winger & he had many injuries.
McLeish: used him as a solo-striker for a while with Bent out injured & he had some injury problems.
Lambert does like playing the attacking game like MON, doesn't Gabby deserve a last chance?

Gabby has a poor attitude. He only played the last game of the season so he was not classed as injured and therefore have to come back from pre season early. Get rid i say get MON to pay over the odds as he did for 90% of the players he purchased for the villa.

Ed any news on a new CB? {Ed043's Note - there has been a number of rumours linking with a new centre back hwever there has been very little progress with this, as you know we hve been linked with lescott but this looks doubtful and also linked with ayala from norwich but these are both doubtful. we have also linked with Sascha Riether a german centre back but this is yet again only a rumour, i also believe villa need to strengthen out defensive line but wether lambert will look to do so is another matter as it seems he is keen to strengthen the attacking threat}

Ed yh he is good but there are big clubs after him at the moment {Ed043's Note - yes so he may also be beyong our reach as well, i personally think ollson should be considered to strengthen the depth of the defence}

Ed i have heard we have for signed yahin brahimi the guy who plays rennes is this true? Thanks. {Ed043's Note - it has not been officially announced yet by either club however brahimis' agent has been reportedly seen in birmingham so it is still very possible for him to be signed soon on a loan deal with a possible purchase option at the end of the loan}

Ed do u know when his agent was reportedly seen? {Ed043's Note - i believe it was 2 days ago so this rumour may not be true however a number of sources claimed this}

Luik de Jong has a £15m price tag which I doubt villa would be willing to spend on 1 player given the current financial situation of the player. I expect 3 or 4 cheaper targets will be coming in such as Rhodes, Clyne, ince and bermhi(excuse spelling)

Well Huddersfield want 8 mil minimum. I would be a bit cautious of wasting that on a league 1 player might end up like Delph. I wanted the yak but he's been snapped up. Berba maybe although his wages may be a problem

Clyne would be a clever signing and will work well with Carruthers/Albrighton so hpefully we get him, we still need a left back Hadaira which would mean PL stil has £13-14mill to spend not incl sales which is gd .

Yacine Brahimi (22 years) could be loaned to Aston Villa next season. This is certainly understands that RMC Sports .

The Rennes would be willing to let his young midfielder in the case of a loan offer with purchase options.

Villa are also looking to move Ireland on as his 70-80k a week wage could be used on 2,3 or even 4 players

Makoun on his way out as Villa are prepared to listen to offers. Cuellar gone to Sunderland. That is according to BBC. So it seems that Lambert is clearing the decks quite quickly. Will Warnock, Hutton and a few others be on their way, only hope so.

Makoun is NOT leaving villa, PL has given him till after pre season to show what he can do, and he is a quality player so doubt he will leave unless he makes a massive error during it

Cuellar was released by Villa in May, Lambert wasn't even at the club when he left.

Just because PL is willing to listen to offers, doesn't mean Makoun is leaving. I think Custom Made is right and he'll have time to prove himself.

My mate works with villa and he said were on verge of signing tom ince for 4 million whittingham for alan hutton jordan rhodes 5 million and nathaniel clynne 3 million and about to enquire about lescott for 6 million {Ed043's Note - these are all very possible signings for lambert as he plans to build his own squad however to complete all these signings will be very difficult as the clubs may want more than villa are willing to offer}

I hope this all comes true!
But we have to realise we must use our academy better not just buy every player in!
