Can i just say, we're doing the same thing as did to tim sherwood, so unless there's a great manager out there looking for work, what do we do, go foreign again or put steve round in charge, i'm just saying be careful what you wish for, unless we want history repeating itself again?

it can't get any worse he can't win games we are going down! don't talk rubbish.

02 Oct 2016 09:50:44
"We are going down" - people should not allow themselves to come on here after a bad game if it makes them sound like a 7 year old melodramatic little girl, it's embarrassing.

02 Oct 2016 10:39:04
We're going down you say and i'm talking rubbish?

i would say the only thing missing here is those behind the scenes letting rdm down. he's the manager so yes, i can see your point. so what to do, sack him and bring in who? not big sam, he's facing a ban.

Pearson?, i can the headline now in the bluenose mail, 'pearson beat up by upper holte end ticket holder', police looking for a man who uses the handle "flackie" online, seen being driven away by his comrade in arms, "mendax"!

no no, the simple solution is keep rdm and bring in warnock as a consultant or whatever job title he likes. rdm learns the dark arts, warnock grabs some sheckles for his farm in cornwall and we scoot up the table.

As easy as 'Stupefy Mobilicorpus', everyones a winner!

01 Oct 2016 21:25:56
So with RDM's exit looking inevitable, who does everyone want to take charge? Big Sam looks like too much of a gamble as he could be banned and the only other manager out there isn't Steve Bruce who would be my choice. I'd never heard of Dean Smith before he was linked with the job, so he'd be a big step in the wrong direction.

Give Ryan giggs a chance, won't know how good he could be until he has a chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Oct 2016 09:53:38
Xia isn't foolish enough to give someone a job who has no relative experience in it or evidence to support that they could do the job, so in other words Giggs will never happen. I'd try an get rowett, all the experience needed, does well with a rubbish team, the noses love him and I'm bored of them having a laugh at us every weekend.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Oct 2016 15:54:12
Errm, so use Aston Villa as a test piece to see how good or bad Ryan Highs might be as a manager?
Yeah, great idea.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i agree mendax, why would you want that excuse for a man to lead you?..

02 Oct 2016 17:48:53
I wouldn't ED (I mean Giggs of course)
On top of the fact that he has no pedigree as a manager, his talking about the Swansea job while Guidolin is still in place shows a distinct lack of class.

Maybe we should try changing the canteen lady gods knows we have gone trough enough managers,
Rdm looks lost and clueless (pitty)
I want o neill back we played good football under him yeah maybe he isiant everybodys cup of tea bit he gets the best out of average players just look at what he is doing with the irish team
I don't rate Bruce at all he has been jumping around clubs to much for 1 reason or another
Big Sam won't work either it just wouldn't make sense we spent to much on stickers to only play 1 up front
Maybe sherwood back seems to know how to get players on his side but not great with his tactics
This is where we are as a club if rdm goes the squad might not suit new manager as hard as it would be to get in a new gaffer this will make it that bit harder it's still 3 months before next window opens and would a new gaffer come in now I don't think so, maybe around December
Id love to see rdm clarke and Co showing a bit of interest on line
We are at a cross roads now
Put up with rdm until December pick up the odd pint and be cut adrift from play offs
Get in man in now let him figger out squad before next window results might not change
Or wait and see when this curse of a run will end
Taughts please.

So every post in here seems to agree, RDM will most probably be sacked in the week. Him and Clark sounded like a good match but it's difficult to defend RDM anymore unfortunately shame we have to sack another manager but he hasn't found his best 11 and with one of the best squads (not team, squad) in the league you have to be able to get results and turn them into a team, and after 10+ games he hasnt. I guess Clark will take over but that doesn't fill me with optimism as he's there now and we haven't found form. So who do we want in charge? We need someone whose going to tackle the squad head on, motivate them, have a clear plan each game and a style of play and install some organisation to the play/ defence. A name doesn't spring to mind, who do we reckon?

It's really interesting, all the fuss about " banter" from the die hard optimists last week and how the so called negative brigade were castigsted. We were actually realists and those who wanted banter have joined us tonite making the same comments as we made previously
RDM out of ideas out of here or division 1 will be our destiny.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

01 Oct 2016 18:56:02
The fuss about banter last week, was not about last week, but about the last 24 months.

However, it pains me to say, but the time is up rdm.

01 Oct 2016 19:48:32
Bet you was praying on us not to get a result today so you could tweet about people not being negative last week, sorry for not being resigned to the fact we're going to be in league 1 next season like you mate but whether we're in champions league or conference or playing over the park I'll still support them, still be optimistic and not try and drag them down.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Oct 2016 20:31:22
Chris it's not dragging down, we all want the best, however unless we get the message out there that we won't or can't accept the abject failure nothing will change. Get behind and be positive is commendable and if we hadn't been subject to five years of abject failure culminating in us being relegation candidates. DR Tony will have got the message. Let's regroup and move forward. Please don't suggest any of us are happy though.

Sorry guys it's time to really question our managers ability to manage!
We are seriously close to div 1 rather than the prem and someone has to carry the can.
In the past we have hammered the manager incumbent but pussy footing around DiM is proving futile.
PL at least had an excuse but this guy has none.
Time is running out.
Our patience has run out.
Come on Dr Tony get us a winner.

A serious question has to be asked here, how can a team that possesses three of the divisions best strikers struggle to score as much as we do.
The answer is obvious to most if not all Villa fans, our midfield is shocking, we have no bite, no direction and no creativity.
How come managers like RDM are paid huge wages and can`t see the wood for the trees, all of us Villa fans can see it, good grief it`s been bloody obvious for years.
We need a stronger character in charge, so for that reason He has to go, out of depth, players in wrong positions, and void of ideas.

I have to say the team choice again leaves a lot to be desired.

RDM has relied on chequebook football expecting that paying big fees guarantees success. Wrong! You need to have a plan to fit these players into a team. We do not have a team. He has assembled a group of expensive individuals with no plan or tactic. In some cases we've paid 2 to 3 times what these players are worth.

Squad for today? Our only win this season came with gustede ayew McCormack up top, but that was before kodja came. thought getting all our best players into one squad whilst still having enough in the midfield not to get overrun! For me I'd go for McCormack kodja
Grealish Tshibola Jedinak ayew
Amavi Chester elphic bacuna
Steer

Not benching Gollini for anything other than if a player played poorly anywhere else on the pitch this many times he'd have been benched so although I like the boy we need to remind him of the competition for places.
Kodja and McCormack seem to have a decent understanding from what we've seen of them (vs Forrest) .
Elphic and Jedinak have had a few shakey performances so need a good display and even though grealish has two goals and an assist (not sure about the assist) we need somert from him today, needs to be getting shots in like he gets the balloons in on a Saturday night🙈.

Rdm still don't no his best formation so its hard for players to know where there playing if they are moved everyweek he needs to pick a formation and stick with it! If he was to get the sack i would look to john gregory he brought brilliant players had us top at xmas and he has experience at a lower level with wycombe and he loves the club and his still young 4 a manager! RDM still thinks villa can get the playoffs so let's hope his right. But that barnsley an brentford game an even the newcastle game bar the ladt 15 min it seems to be getting worse not better the players not exactly busting a gut for him! Any1 fancy a pint at preston then message me about time we met the great mendex an flackie the leicester fan lol.

How can rdm tell the players what to do when he hasn't gota clue what to do himself what is on his 30th formation now best side in the league and his taking it down! Not only that there's no emotion from him or invisible Steve Clarke. At least gregorys a villa man you are going on like gregory was rubbish! come on flackie dilly de dilly dong wake up i told you at the start of the season things wouldn't go well i was right not negative right want to argue check out the table! I don't want to argue, however I was not blind enough, or have a lack of intellect to believe that changing the management, or players would automatically mean we deserve to not only win, but walk a league we have never been in.
I'm also not naive enough to think that these changes would remove the losing, style, lack of belief and negativity that is to the core of our club.
I also want say that I told you that when and if things didn't go this way that you would come on here saying how you told us this would happen, (but I did! )
I also won't talk of your fantastic idea of bringing back a manager that walked out on us, whistled like a sheep farmer, and is that great that his legacy in football is all to see.
Instead I will bow down to you, agree you are the man, and decline your kind offer of a drink, as I do fear of spilling it, over your head.

Regarding players not knowing what their doing, I know theirs a myth that their all thick but if he tells them a week in advance or 5 minutes before kick off they should know what their doing. Now them being able to do what he wants is another story😂 Or even him telling them what he wants is questionable, the last time we had an actual playing style was under Paul lambert, same front 5 every week, gabby benteke and Weismann playing on the break and Westwood and Delphi trying to get the ball into them (not saying it worked or i'd have Lambert back)

John Gregory left because Doug Ellis refused him funds to further strengthen the squad. The exact same reason that Ron Atkinson " departed ". He may have joined Derby soon after but that was NOT the reason he left Villa.

Let's get real.
Fail to win tomorrow and DiM should anticipate the exit door being held open.
Forget positive/ negative posts, the real world awaits. 3 points is a must or we will be in the mire.
The top is getting further away but we are not getting closer to the bottom.
So many managers out there looking for a club but why are they unemployed? We are unlikely to get someone from another club u nless we can find one from the lower divisions believing he can achieve the almost impossible.
Us the supporters want an adventurous manager, however we need a manager with strong defensive attitude.
Hat in the ring time, Bruce or Pullis.
Is there any other names that one can iden tify as possible targets?

Hello mate.

Reluctantly I am starting to agree.
My problems with this run personally and as a fan!
Personally, I actually really like rdm, and can see so much improvement, and think we are so close to getting what we want, although he can't argue that defending a 1-0 lead, and being able to play 90 mins with out conceding means you won't get three points.
Also. the candidates being mentioned as replacement are painful
Pearson! Jesus please no
Big Sam boring football, although will tighten the defence
Potato head! Really want an ex blue? I remember his interview after enklemans gaff. No thanks
Pullis? god. Worse football, and team destroyer I've ever seen. Would rather sherwood back.

However, my biggest issue is constantly changing the top makes us look amateur. We need continuity.

But we need points more.

Agree1 Disagree1

30 Sep 2016 13:33:47
I think our problems are in midfield.
If we had another Tshibola and could find a lower league Pirlo we would be laughing.
All Gardner has proved is that every manager he has played under was right in thinking he wasn't good enough, despite the clamour from many on here for his inclusion. Westwood has set himself the target of being a poor man's Ray Wilkins and is failing miserably.
As for Pulis. Please God no.

30 Sep 2016 13:39:59
Flackie, Pearson is a no, Sam shot himself in the foot, both feet.
Where else can Xia look?
Abroad?
There are some out of work coaches there, but again out of work.
A big pit has been dug and the sides are steep and the fact that we are Aston Villa gives other teams a lift. We are not feared. They will raise there game like a cup tie eg Luton.
I would like a little arrogance but also some will to fight for the shirt, body on the line etcetc.
If the players thought it was a push over, think again.
More fight not flight.
We the fans deserve more from the players.
The players have not done enough to earn us!

Perhaps that is what is wrong. We are looking for a manager for the champs. when we should be looking for a topflight guy who also wants to back in the prem.
Said before, players, ground And fans all top notch. Coach/ manager not on the same page.
Thought Clark would be excellent with DiM but I do doubt Bond. Never rated his father and he had a dislike of Villa. Beside the point.
DiM must find something this week. No option!

Watched the highlights of Newcastle norwich from last night . If that was us 3 2 down on 94 mins we would probably still be defending and most likely concedes 4th. I'm so fed up with watching other teams who aren't a million miles away from us give it a go every single weekend/ every single game giving it a go. Is it me or does it just seem like our midfield is the only flat midfield in the league? Is it me or is it only our defence and keeper who makes mistakes worthy of dropping points? I'm so fed up by the way we set up and go about or business on the park . 50 plus million was spent in the summer ok things don't happen over night but for crys sake why in training aren't we learning to defend set pieces and just defend in general. Again Preston I'd like to see Richards back in for Elphick. Not all of you will agree and say did you see Richards last season etc but at the same time did you see Westwood cissoko grealish last season they seem to be getting a second chance for this season and they didn't play the best .
Rant over enjoy your day

Now the dust has settled and we are all no longer feeling deflated, let's discuss last night with a clear head. In my opinion it was a carbon copy of every other game this season, didn't take anywhere near enough of them and then crumbled in the final minutes. Now my first point:

Gollini is still a huge Question mark, he made good saves against Newcastle but last night he made a huge mistake for their goal, and working it out I'm sure he's now cost us 7 points and made 4 mistakes, is it now time to take action? Subs bench and give Steer a chance?

Point 2:

The defence on the whole is solid, other than Bristol we haven't been shakey as a defence until after the 80th minute, the only common theme is that when we are sitting back, all players clinging on edge of the box for dear life we can't not concede. That tells me we can't defend as a team, when we all go back it's over crowded, unorganised and clumsy so we end up giving space/ making mistakes. So we have two options A train hard on how to defend as a team and keep a shape and understand responsibilities when we're penned in every man behind the ball or B don't get penned in, keep our shape and look to break.

And finally point 3:

We need to pick our front 3 and stick to it, to me it would be kodja McCormack and ayew, the first two seem to already have a decent understanding and I don't think you can take ayew out the team at the moment!

We have to look for the positives and ignore the noses, we're 5 games unbeaten and look a good attacking team for 80 minutes in a game. Now let's get the last 10 right and climb up that table! UTV!

also his slow making decisions everybody could see at grelish was having a nightmare in yet some how he kept him on to be honest if we don't beat preston he should be sacked!

29 Sep 2016 08:39:08
Totally agree Chris - For me the front 3 picks itself - Are we trying too hard to accommodate Grealish I wonder? And does this impact our midfield which was overran again last night?

I wouldn't be so quick to drop Gollini however - I think he is very raw but there is a good goalkeeper in there, I'm sure of it - I recall United fans being very concerned about DeGea initially - I think he will come good but I understand your point, do we have the luxury of waiting - Perhaps not.

I think we have been extremely unlucky at times this year - We should really have 4-6 more points on the board. A win is coming and that could be the turning point - Wishful thinking :-)?

29 Sep 2016 09:40:34
Some good points Chris we all seem to agree with you on them.
However, for me you missed out the one overriding reason why we are not either killing teams off OR defending right to the bitter end. The midfield.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 13:07:59
Cheers lads and I was going to include a point about the midfield but the post was getting very long. I think our problem with the midfield is Tshibola is our only decent midfielder at the moment on current form. Jedinak hasn't really started the way we would have expected, Westwood still isn't good enough at this level and Gardner seems to try too hard to impress. And the fact I've only spoke about midfielders is worrying because that's all we have, would love us to sign someone like Tom Huddlestone, can getup and down the pitch for ninety minutes and has the experience.

They know the new manager must see something they don't, but we don't like the guy, but what happens is we get behind the manager and trust his judgement (begrudgingly); sound familiar?

So don't be surprised if our friendly neighbourhood pantomime villain, the Gabster is named as a sub at some point or other, we just got to let it play out for the greater good!

Forward line isn't our problem So I don't think we'll be seeing Agbonlahor again thank God.
Our problem is in midfield . We are too lightweight too nice. We are unable to dominate teams and take any game by the scruff of the neck.
Given the right service our forwards will score loads. Given the right protection our defence will hold out much more often until matches are finished.

We got a point away to barnsley, we beat preston at the weekend; that's 4 out of 6 points. the main thing is we aren't losing games, a little work on controlling the last segment of a game and then that should be the jigsaw looking pretty.

let's give it a big push for rdm and the boys and things might just turn in our favour. i'm happier to be talking about getting a draw, than a defeat, so roll on preston, our season starts now!

Where do I start after last nights shambles. rdm has to sacked enough is enough., if you looked at last nights team how many players would be definite starters, starting at the back including the goal keeper out of the 5 maybe chester all the other positions are up for grabs, midfield tish, nobody else, so you are depending on formation for another 2/ 3 players . upfront you can choose from about 6/ 7 without the likes of green and Rushian, you would be lucky to have 4 possibly five definates, after spending 50 million and playing 11 games it is a joke, at the start of the season I wanted Young players who we could develop like tish who could play in the premiership, the chances of that now are very slim, so like before we are going to be left with old, slow players on long contracts and good salaries who are going to get no better like elphick and jedinak, the only thing we can do know is to get a new manager, get villa park a fortress again so we do not attend with home crowds of 20/ 25 thousand, win some away games and maybe win from coming behind and hopefully Finnish top 10, but as I have said before get rushian on a contract Asap, the manager for me is from Brentford . up the villa surely it can not get any worse .

Just an observation, we obviously are always going to concede late on, we have enough history to prove this, in order for us to win, good proactive management would go for the second goal when we are leading. Tonites substitutions tried to defend a one goal lead we can't do this. Stating the obvious one win is equal to three draws so play the percentages game, RDM needs to adopt an approach to get healthy leads when we are in front like tonite, we will get more points with this approach.

Can't disagree with you there hopeful, i think rdm must have a reason why he persists with the one goal, circle the wagons routine. i just hope against preston away we nail it down to the mast properly, because it's the lads lack in concentration is the obvious issue here. so make them do ballet at the training ground in front of all the press each time they balls it up. guarantee that'll get them focusing!

Imagine going into subway for the first time with all the options they have, only after a fair few times of going will you know your favorite sandwich. Give RDM time, the draw against Newcastle was a very good point, now let's get behind him and move on. We have sacked managers too early before and we need to learn from that. this is just a thought, looking at the game on Saturday, i don't think elphick is the leader we need in defence, we need a big bruising lump of a centre back with plates lots of experience who can put himself about.

i was thinking what about david wheater from bolton, he's on a reduced contract there and we could get him for next to nothing, with him barking out the orders and the younger ones doing the leg work, i think that it might work.

big, honest, brave and not afraid to mix it up, all very well having young defenders but with his experience, it might just be what we need, and nick zac clough too. top player wasting his obvious talent in league one, deserves a bigger stage.

We have a striker that has the moves and the pace but why is he on the wing?
Jedinak, well what can you say?

Ayew could really be a very good player, just wish someone would tell him it's a team game.
He could make a very good No 10 with the proper coaching, several of his runs yesterday could have produced a better outcome if he had released the ball quicker to players who were clearly available in better positions, players like Kodjia will score a hatful of goals given the ammunition, Ayew can and should be able to do that.
I am not in any way being critical of Ayew, he played very well yesterday, I am trying to be constructive, Give him a chance at No 10 RDM and to be aware of people around him.
Kodjia is not a winger, why do we persist in playing players out of position, makes my blood boil.
As the season is 20% complete, watch out Mr Matteo, making statements like "it was a really good fightback for the team" are not good, we have not performed for 90 minutes for the past 3 years.
You will not win anything if your teams can`t perform in the second half as they did in the first half or vice versa, time is running out, Lose at Barnsley and I think your time will be up, (I might be wrong)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Sep 2016 11:49:16
So what was wrong first half yesterday? I think elphic was having a bit of a stinker doordelling on the ball, Amavi was our worst player, not going in for challenges and going towards the ball - imo their goal and 1/ 2 of the their clear 1 on 1 chances in the first half come from Amavi hesitating! Gollini was absolutely class! And not to judge him on this one game but Jedinak looked as though he'd lost it, a few times his passing and positioning to win the ball back was good but he kept making mistakes and taking too long on the ball. At the end of the day a draw was a fair result but if we can perform like that in the second half why not all game? Newcastle are meant to be the bench mark in this league and second half we more than matched them! Onwards and Upwards, UTV!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Sep 2016 12:08:24
I think Jed and elph where totally off their respective games.

However, first half we played 3-5-2 and it didn't work at all, so at least rdm saw the problem and corrected. felt sorry for baker as when resorting back to 4-5-2 or 4-3-3 he was the only possible victim, as we know he wants elph and Chester as his centre pairing.

At least, (trying to find positive! ) we didn't coincide in last ten mins, and we played eventually to the last whistle.
Also, to not lose a game we played poorly in, in my opinion worst showing of season, to a title competitor, and not allowing them to go a further two points away from us.

This result, and the manor of it, might be the turning point.

One more thing, I felt finally the gk stepped up to the plate, if he could move the ball on quicker, rather than waiting for players to regain position, he might just be top drawer.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Sep 2016 14:11:39
Said the same about Baker first half he was making up for all amavi's errors in his body on the line fashion so was a shame when he went off, but yea this really could be a turning point mentally, getting stronger when we need to and holding it together in the final moments!

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Sep 2016 09:59:01
In my opinion last nights result, covered over many cracks, first of all the formation was completely wrong to start with, too many players playing in unfamiliar positions., the performances of alphick and jed were very poor, to take off baker for alphick was shocking, he must have been gutted, he is more mobile and physical and the tackle he made to save us going 2 nil down was brilliant, on too jedinak, we think westwoods bad, this bloke is bad, the pace of the championship is too much for him, he hasn't got the legs anymore pardew must be laughing 4 million pounds, at least the last 15 minutes was better a bit more passion and pride, the problem rdm has got he has got too many frontman to keep happy take a winger off and put a striker on the wing it doesn't make sense . the next 2 away games I think will see if rdm stays, I don't think he will, the last thought Russian come on the last 10 minutes, looked lively out of contract at the end of the season, that needs sorting urgently .

But another game we have played and didn't win give him till preston if we don't beat barnsley and preston i say sack him. rumours in the mirror is that rdm has been told to pick up wins or be sacked! To be honest rdm has brought a decent side but i will say that not buying propa wingers an midfield centres will cost him his job. We all no gardner an westwood are awful an jedinak legs have gone so the 1 good midfielder we got tishbola an he don't play him! Rdm still have time but we spent 50 mill we should be anywhere near the bottom! BEWARE THE MAD DOCTOR!

Surely now we must play 4 3 3 every week. A back 3 or 5 is not working and won't with the players we have available. We are better when we attack teams at home Uddersfield, Rotherham, Forest and yesterday we create and put the oppo on the back foot. Keep a regular back 4 and a tight 3 in the middle. First half we sat back and invited them on to us instead of playing to our strengths Ayew and Kodja as out balls. Playing balls behind centre half in this division will get plenty of goals and we have the players to do this. Great atmosphere 2nd half can't wait for the Dingles UTV.

I only did see the first and heard 2nd half was much better. Elphick was shocking he needs to learn how to clear crosses with both feet instead of trying to use just the one foot as lead to the goal. It amazes me how many pros can't use both feet when all the training the do. Is it me but does jedinak look like he can't move does need someone next to him to do the running. Happy with result tho keeps unbeaten run going to boost confidence.

Jedinak was very poor at times, very immobile. Amavi was really not at the standard for first team starting line up and looking like he has had very little experience! Westwood though non existent first half did look like a man with no pace energy nor innovative ideas second half. Jordon Ayew was missing first half and when sparked after 70mins made all the difference. Kodjia looks good but Adomo didn't really set the place alight. Was a really good fight back and result with so many not up to scratch including Tommy Elphick who had a bad game too. Long way still to go and expect will be in play offs at the end VTID.

Hear flackie mendax and other loyal followers regarding the "banter" debate and whilst I think they go a tad easy on our current failings I do accept that some of our comments are excessive. It doesn't mean we don't care quite the contrary and I think at least the team need a big kick up the arse. So banter it is, anyone thought Jack may be the fall guy sent out on a mission to detract from the current difficulties (I use this word in my current conciliatory tone) to take the pressure off what is currently going on, just a cynical thought!

I watched the Aberdeen game last night vs St Johnstone and a player in midfield called Maddison was very good on the ball. Reminded me of Jack Grealish a little bit but he would play in the middle. Very good technique and genuinely looked a danger every time he got the ball. He is very direct when he gets the ball he is always looking to play forward rather than sideways like half of the midfield. Just wondering what anyone elses opinion is of him if they know or have seen him before.

I have waited for most of the facts to be made public before commenting on the Grealish incident.
Let us get real here, Grealish has behaved like an idiot.
Say what you will, Nitrous oxide is dangerous and will have a consequence further down the line.
It`s all well and good people defending him and to say that we have all done this sort of thing.
Yes we have or a least I have, but my future and career have never depended on it.
The guy will not listen, his demeanour says it all, Gascoigne did not listen, Best did not listen, the facts are clear and if he continues as he is he will be finished, and for that reason I would get rid, after all he is no Best or Gascoigne and never will be.
IMO he will not become the player we are all hoping for, something is missing.
Ed 001 made a statement further down the page and he is spot on.
Part of Eds Quote: Grealish is meant to be a professional footballer who is looking after his body to perform for the likes of you, who are now defending him for failing to do what your money goes to pay him to do.
I might add nobody apart from Finch and myself responded to that post, why I ask? maybe is it because he is correct?

And I do agree with ed01's post, as said on another post!
Mitigating circumstances? Possibly, his 21st bday, then debatable whether he took the gas?
Free time? Not at work, not breaking any criminal law.
Are we right to judge his personal choices in his pvt life? I'm not so sure. I know I'm in no state to pass a judgment. If you are Dave, I bow to you.

Get rid? I'm not sure.
get him down from the high perch his put him self on? 100%

But the fact remains. rdm was given a job to do, to manage. Surely now is the time to let him.

This goes on at every club, don't be naive to think it doesn't, yet kept in house, from the press, fans and public.
Why is our dirty washing always aired like this?

Correct him, punish him, IF he performs on the pitch, I couldn't care.
Every single man and woman on this planet needs to let their hair down from time to time.

I am not passing judgement Flackie I am giving my opinion on a subject that has a bearing on the team I have supported for 60 yrs, so no need to bow to me mate.
I say get rid because I am a too the point sort of guy, how many chances do you give someone? we need people in the trenches right now and I would not want him in my trench.
This does not go on at every club flackie, It would be naïve to think it did just to give Grealish the benefit of the doubt, it happens agreed but it is nowhere near as widespread as you are saying.
I do agree that people need to let their hair down from time to time, and I am not saying carry the good book around all the time, as I said before these antics can, and will lead to more serious events later on and maybe cause health issues.
I must add I have never really rated the lad to be honest, he is slow, thinks too much about what to do, and is predictable, he should watch videos of Best, Giggs, Waddle, etc, instead of sucking the air out of balloons, I preferred to suck the face off women get my drift.

I really don't know what's going on, he's been playing well, not pulling up any trees but performing on the same level as ages and probably better than McCormack and he had a birthday party the night after a game when they have a Sunday off. Just to ensure I wasn't on the wrong site, I just thought I'd dig out the Oxford English Dictionary definition of 'Banter'. To my surprise, it is not defined as 'The constant and tedious ripping in to your own football club, management and players' but is actually described as follows

Noun = The playful and friendly exchange of teasing remarks
Verb: Exchange remarks in a good-humoured teasing way.

Now I don't expect Classof82 to get this as, with such an enormous class size, I don't imagine they could concentrate much on English grammar. However, the rest of you have no excuse!

Remember when this site was fun, about taking the psis out of clubs, each other and having a laugh?

All this ripping in to our own club, manager and players, (certain few excluded, hey worf etc! ) is boring, tedious and to be honest, coining a phrase from my old dear, switch offable!

So a 21 year old celebrates his birthday with his mates, not during his work time, nothing illegal, and nothing any of us wouldn't of done.

Then we get posts saying how we should be shouting from the roof tops because we haven't won the league already, (after 7 games! ) we got relegated last year, because we were not good enough, yet suddenly all these problems have been fixed?!

Get real people, new owner, new board, new owner, new playing staff. will take longer than 7 games to gel and settle. Longer if the life blood of the club berates and slags and rides the whole side morning noon and night.

Ever wondered why this site is getting quieter and quieter? Fewer people posting? As reading the same moan, just using different words on every thread is mind numbing, boring, and certainly not banter.

We could start doing that on here if you guys post enough stuff to keep the rumours/banter posts current - we (the Eds) don't want people logging on and the first thing they see is a post from two days ago. That just makes the site look as if it's either not updated regularly or it's not attracting enough posts to bother sticking around to post yourself.}

Also, there is constructive negative, and trying to decide what is, and needs to remain would be hard!

However, I do think if it was less, most would post more. I know I would.

22 Sep 2016 20:13:43
Absolutely agree Flackie! So come on let's put the fun back in lol I'll start with a tale that I thought very funny and clever! Was in the 1980's and some will recall villa played Odford United in the league cup semi final I think? Villa brought loads to the old Manor Ground many without tickets! Some managed to sneak in but one bright south Birmingham lad went to the ticket office (was like a shed) and waited in the cue to see if there were any returned tickets. There was an old chap with a paper list of names for guest/ complimentary tickets who was ticking off names when tickets were collected. The villa lad asked if there were any spares and was of course told no none, however he managed to memorise three names on the list. He went back to his mates and gave three each a name. With colours hidden they went to the kiosk one by one and were gifted the tickets when they gave their new names lol can anyone confirm they have heard the same story and or is it an urban myth? ! UTV.

From what I can see, the partygoers were asked to leave at 745 am and that's what they did. It was Jack's 21st and 21st birthday parties can get a bit boisterous. That's normal.
Balloons were filled with nitrous oxide, again normal these days.
There is as yet no evidence that Grealish inhaled any. So when you read the Daily Mails account of it all remember they are trying to sell newspapers and often exaggerate and twist things.
Until we know the full story let's leave it to rest and roar Jack and the boys on on Saturday because they are going to need us.

{Ed001's Note - what is the relevance to what the two do? Grealish is meant to be a professional footballer who is looking after his body to perform for the likes of you, who are now defending him for failing to do what your money goes to pay him to do. I will never understand why so many fans are allowing these bellend footballers to laugh at them and treat them like idiots, when it is you paying for them to do that. There is a reason why players are not meant to do these things, it affects their performances. Do you not care whether a player performs to 100% or just puts in 85% for YOUR team?}

All iam saying is villa are not doing that well and his partying there is proof about grelish as the hotel said they had to get police to escort him and his friends out st 7.45 am not only he has no respect 4 the people not in the hotel. But its sheer wrong his already been in trouble with the club on 2 occasions now this will be a 3rd he has no respect 4 rules or the football club. let me put it another way when ever have you seen birmingham city players or huddlesfield or sheff wed players do what he does? Its not his mates fault its his he knows the rules. If he killed somebody could he just go to court an say sorry judge my friends are a bad influence? No so why is it a excuse now he knows the rules. As a footballer you get paid huge huge wages but they no it comes with rules most shut up and take the money then there's grelish who wants the best of both world well sorry you cant! Its not even a time for partying at the moment party when we are up not fighting relegation! He's not George Best his Jack grealish!

Agree0 Disagree1

21 Sep 2016 19:20:18
I think we need to know the whole story before you pass such strong judgement. You are already adding unreported facts such as 'he' was escorted out, they said 10-12 men and women. Let's wair and see what the story is.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2016 09:55:56
i don't no why my post about jack grelish wasnt put up i only said what happend! i get the sense your trying to protect a lad who keeps doing the same mistakes over again. you can block my post but the fans will find out what he done today anyway pointless block really as nothink was said bad just what he was suppose to have done. villa lie just above the relegation zone and jack grelish an his friends are partying in hotel rooms with hippy crack after ipswitch. post this don't post this either way it stinks of last season again no wonder we are fighting relegation rather than looking up the league!

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't know why it wasn't posted either. The last thing that lad needs is protection, he needs a kick up the arse and to realise that he is not George Best or even half the player Best was at the end of his career, let alone at his peak.}

21 Sep 2016 10:33:37
Thanx mate i would never abuse any1 or do anythink untoward on this site. so grelishs list so far is passing out in tenerife on holiday and under tim sherwood he was caught doing hippy crack fined and dropped by the club. So why the hell would you do it again having been finded an dropped? Villa if we are honest are doing poor we need every1 together this time i would just transfer list him fineing him don't work nor does dropping him. To be done for the same things over an over again he has to go this time set a example. He don't care if he gets fined his a millionare this time leave our club! Such a waste of talent!

Agree5 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - he thinks he is George Best mate, everything he does is trying to be Best. Problem is he has missed out the hours of practice with a tennis ball to improve his game and gone straight to the hellraising. It doesn't help that the media were lauding him every time he made a pass that landed within 25 yards of a team mate.}

21 Sep 2016 10:54:00
people are just saying its his friends an he should ditch the hangers on. But he isn't a boy now he knows right from wrong he is big enough to make his own decisions he knows what his doing. The guy is just a scum bag you don't get birmingham city players doing it or norwich or sheff wed this has to stop! what they gona do fine him again when they gona learn fines don't work his stinking rich! He has to be sold now mate how many warnings fines chances you gona give this guy? George Best he definitely isnt! I went to ipswitch paid a lot of money as i don't miss a game this guy is a fool i would do anythink to play for villa 4 get the money. All these guys gabby grelish lescot ment to be villa fans your joking aren't you? Rant over UTV.

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - it does get frustrating to see a lad being paid huge sums and then not give his all. Over the years I have had arguments with many of them over it. That is why players like Nedved I have total respect for and would never begrudge him a penny. Not only did he always stay behind after training to practice, he would go home after training and work out in his home gym to get even fitter. That is why he became one of the best players in the world and that is the example young players should be following.}

21 Sep 2016 16:10:08
1. There's no proof he inhaled anything 2. I don't know how Much people understand about balloons, but you can get them everywhere, in clubs, they are not illegal, similar to Sheesha. Lay off him until there's proof or his performances start to take a hit, until them let the kid live!

I have got a very strong feeling that the next two games are vitally important for RDM, as I am sure we all have.
I think if we lose too Newcastle at home and Barnsley away I am certain it will result in us sacking RDM, it might even come after the Newcastle game if we lose.
If that does happen I will take a guess at Brucie, who I believe has been touched up already.
Just a feeling lads, nothing more.

I think that Dr Xia understands that to replace a whole team is impossible to do in one transfer window.
I also think that RDM has bought well I like all the players he's bought so far.
Hopefully we can get a few wins under our belt before Xmas and climb up the table. Then in January buy a TOP midfielder or two and get some momentum as this long season goes on.
I think in our current state injury-wise that a point against Newcastle would be ok.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Sep 2016 21:56:08
With all due respect Andy, we need to be looking at nothing less than 3 points.

The Bobby Zamora series of chants, started (I think) by Fulham fans to the tune of 'Thats Amore'

When the ball hits your head
And you're sat in row Z,
That’s Zamora

When the shot’s a disgrace
And it’s heading for Space,
That’s Zamora

If he miss-hits a curl
Like a 5 year-old girl,
That’s Zamora

And the best chance by far
Ricochets off the bar,
That’s Zamora

When a simple tap-in
Hits the left corner pin,
That’s Zamora

etc etc etc.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - That sounds like a rip-off of a Celtic song for Di Canio back in the 90s...

When the ball's in air,
And it's not big Pierre,
It's Di Canio...

When he twists and he turns,
And it's not Tommy Burns,
It's Di Canio

When the balls in the net,
And it's not Jorge Cadette,
It's Di Caniooooooooo...

Agree2 Disagree0

18 Sep 2016 22:33:58
How sad we are looking back more than twenty years, we should be looking for a viable option now. Clearly the fact we are harking back to the past suggests we are in dire straits. We all know the stats one win in twenty one league games no away win for nearly 14 months.

25 million spent and we can't manage a shot on goal against Ipswich and we see positives that we didn't loose and didn't concede what a joke. That may be acceptable to the extreme loyalists but to those of us with emotional scar tissue it doesn't wash.

I overheard heard the most saddening banter in the pub this afternoon from a Small Heath crowd, they mocked our "Birmingham are you listening chant" we're not listening we are sniggering they said. It really hit home the depths we have slumped to. We need to restore pride to our great club and we need it soon before it's too late.

The next game against Newcastle, I think is the most important game we have had for a long time, for the following reasons . Our home record over the last few years is very poor, we have already lost approx 3000 home fans already this season, taking in to consideration the away following, another bad performance could be a major blow, I already would take 6 th in the league , considering our start and injury list, we have always got to remember we haven't won away in 13 months and not won from being behind in 40 odd games, a special mention to the brilliant away fans, we will be taking 5600 midweek to Preston, how long can they keep going until it starts getting toxic, final point should we start tish and a a on Saturday after a weeks training, depending if Mac is fit, no gestade is bad news .

Believable1 Unbelievable0

18 Sep 2016 14:51:26
Just picking up on your point about things becoming toxic. I don't disagree with you but why is this?
Other teams have been through similar spells without the fans turning on the players. Why is it that a large amount of Villa fans seem most happy when things are miserable?
We seem most animated and engaged when things are going poorly. An alien would think we enjoy it.

The amount of money been spent by the club an by the fans (tickets, travel etc) we deserve that even if we are used to seeing our team draw at best!

16 Sep 2016 17:34:06
he seems to be one them players that yes he can run and dribble but struggles to get a shot of and seems to trip over his own feet or the ball just gets lost under his feet.

i like the lad and think he could be a great player over the years but he needs to stop over trying (not a word but can't think what word to use) and get his head up a bit.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Sep 2016 19:21:57
He isn't a striker, yes for the positions he gets in he should score more but anyone who has watched villa this season will have seen, he occupies 3 players at once sometimes, teams double up on him because their scared. He gets attacks started, keeps attacks moving and does his defensive duties (well so far this season he has) we missed him against Brentford, his guile and willingness to always have the ball and be calm and collected.

Agree0 Disagree1

16 Sep 2016 21:10:11
Trouble is Chris he should be releasing the ball sooner when he is occupying three players, we might just score more goals, he runs into trouble too often.

Something that is getting a little frustrating for me from the Villa camp is communication.

Now we had this problem under the Lerner regime. Yes we get twitter updates from Tony, but these are now turning to vents of frustration against the manager that shouldn't be aired in public, I think it is going to cause conflict that we don't need that doesn't galvanise the team and tells us nothing important.

The info I want to know is, why was Grealish not even on the bench, how far are Tshibola and Adomah from coming back. Updates on McCormack and De Laet and how much has this affected RDM's first team selection and tactical plan. ie. eg. Is Tshibola first choice over Westwood.

I think we all want to know when the results are less that desirable at this early early stage, what is the plan, what are short term targets, rather than the manger saying we are making silly mistakes when trying to close out games, yes I agree to some extent, but if you are tactically astute especially with our attack, should our defenders be in a position where there is too much pressure on them to close out a game.

If we were dominating the way we should, the defenders wouldn't be in a position where the pressure builds to a point where a small mistake is inevitable. Yes we will have games where we will have to grind a win and park the bus. but this should be small percentage, against some of the tougher teams away from home for example.

he needs to wind his neck in and let rdm try and smooth out the creases, this is a public shot across the bows, how much more wrong can dr. tony be by using social media, this is bad news for all of us.

Big clubs win games and to be honest the club is been a joke an quite pathetic 4 about 6 years now i know that sounds harsh an it kills me to say it but at the moment we are nearer the bottom than the top again. As i pointed out i go every game and in the last year and half i seen us win 4 times. 4 me and every other villa fan this is not acceptable. we all want the best for this club wev we agree with each other on here or not how do we fix this once great club? Yes its early yet but i do belive we are more likely to be down there rather than up there as we don't ever win do we really let's be honest villa don't win we are pretty rubbish at football lol. If went to work and you kept making the same mistakes they would say you are crap at your job so what's the difference? 4 wins in a year and a half suddenly won't change to us wining 28 games and going up! I think we are all in agreement that the past 4-5 years under Lerner were horrible, but I don't think you should make the mistake of already grouping the results and running of the club of the current owner to the previous.

In this short time Tony has spent big and spent well and there is no way we can judge his ownership and running of the club on 7 games, that is not fair at all.

In the real world if you had a company that was performing horribly for 5 years, I can assure you that it would very rarely turn around completely in 6 months. It can take years and you have to understand that even though that is not what you want to hear.

Chester, Elphick, Baker back 3
De Laet and Amavi either side.
We are so lightweight when trying to defend that every team knows that pressure will succeed.
Forwards to die for, midfield to question, defence to pray for!
No midfield coming back to help.
Look at 90% of other clubs and they defend with 8 players.

I think I have mentioned on here before that I think the make up of our squad actually favours a 3-5-2 formation
RDM is trying to accomodate too many players.
We need to play Ayew as a forward or not at all.
We need to perm 2 from 4 in terms of strikers, not try and play the lot.

Chesters best moments has come in a back 3 aswell for Wales and Hull! Di Matteo seems stuck in his ways in terms of formation, it's been the same every game no matter what players are available, forcing players like McCormack and Kodja (vs Brentford) out of position. If his going to stick with a 4-2-3-1 we need actual wide men who will exploit full backs and get back and can do it for ninety minutes. Grealish and Adomah are more than capable to do that, when fully fit
Gollini
De laet Chester elphic amavi
Jedinak tshibola
Adomah McCormack grealish
Kodja

Would be our best line up, mccormacks goal scoring record comes from playing just in and around another striker. And ayew Gustede on the bench to change a game if needed!

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Sep 2016 09:31:18

is the missing link the players are bored with the training methods, is it that their mental tiredness manifests because of confusion as to what system we use, and what system to play?

when players are missing-that is, more compact and become a counter attack team;whatever it is, no- one is addressing it, for all that's common sense rdm, please just get someone in to at least analyse us, because bad habits are easier to form than good ones, and contrary to what some on here say that i think of him, he deserves a fair shake.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm not sure if it is the training, however I would like to be a fly on the wall. Kingvilla, in my post i mention richards as toast, and then say vital member of our team, the vital bit was a quote from a press conference when either the doctor or rdm was asked why richards wasn't sold and that reply of being vital to our squad was used.

so far some on here have me sacking rdm and rating richards!, there's only one place you can play him, and that's in front of the back for as a sweeper because he has no idea of zonal marking.

15 Sep 2016 12:41:24
We have no god given right to think we will walk back to perm. however, we are not a million miles away from playing our way back there.
I know results, and a backbone are missing, and that is down to more than tactics, and their ability. It's an in house problem that has been coming out at villa for over 4 years.

My problem is the idea of trying to defend a one goal lead for over 50 minutes
Defending a corner with not one player in the opposite half, Leicester, (and we know my feeling for this club) sacrifice procession for pace and hitting on the break, all we try to do, and Leicester leave 3 in attack when defending. meaning they need to leave 4 to defend.
It's not rocket science. If you only score once, and always concede, you won't win.

Most threads on this supposed 'Banter' site now seem to be based entirely around the misguided premise that we somehow have a divine right to bounce straight back to the Premier League by virtue of our glorious past, or else every man and his dog associated with the club, on and off the pitch, should be sacked immediately or, better still, strung up. You can name as many replacement managers as you like but, without exception, every one of them (Bruce etc) has historically been sacked by other clubs for not performing so, essentially, what you are advocating is taking on failed management. For all the doom-and-gloom muppets out there, it's worth noting that a win last night would have resulted in us being exactly one place higher in the league than we are this morning and we are already almost halfway to equaling the glorious 17 points we achieved in the whole of last season. Like any really sick patient, this club is going to take time to heal no matter how many doctors you throw at it. I'm amazed that anyone expected anything other than a fairly tentative start to the season.

As a first time poster, rdm needs to be replaced Asap, with Steve Bruce to take over . The good Dr has spent over 50 million pounds, he deserves better than the clueless manager we have at the moment, we have 3,centre forwards,2 no 10s and one winger, he needs to choose one centre forward from kod, gestade, ayew, ayew can't play on the wing doesn't track back, and one no 10 from Mac and jack . hopefully aa on the wing if ever fit . the other wing position is up for grabs, we need crosses in the box, at the moment we play 6 defenders and 4 attackers with no width . at the moment what resale value for elphick delaet, jednick and Mac, if we do not get promotion it will be the same as before overpaid, old players on long contracts. we should have gone for young hungry players like tish if we can get fit, because if we do get promoted, the older players will have to be replaced to be competive in the premier league, final thought blues spent 2.5 million,20 times less than us, and where are they in the league . the Dr could well be doing a Alan sugar at any moment .

IMO most of the new signings seem good. It takes time to gel and we've had a few niggly injuries.
However, for me the area that needs to be sorted is midfield. 2 top signings in this area were needed in the summer and are still needed now. Westwood and Gardener are not good enough. Jedinak is approaching 33 and Tshibola is very promising but young. He only played 6 times last season.
So come January that IMO is where we need to spend big. Quality costs .
But will promotion be out of our reach by then? Its certainly looking that way.

Amavi was awful last night. He is hype due to his injury last season. Do you think a fit Amavi would have kept us up?

He made 12 appearances last season and Kieran Richardson was called up to replace him before the injury. If Amavi and Ayew are all that, why are they still here?

Gana went and watching him against Sunderland for Everton I didn't believe it was the same player.

As for replacing McCormack, put Rudy up on his own kodjia and greenj just behind
Awey left. Or gardener or bacuna in the middle with Westwood and Jedinak Close the game down. Not a left wing back in left midfield

We had 9 players second half, Ayew Orr to look at McCormack and kodjia for a lesson in tracking back and work rate Amavi way out of position.

Tonight thought we missed Jack Grealish mixing it up a bit. Disappointed how we dropped off after the goal and by 30th minute you could see how the match would go. No excuse for tiring and it chasing down the loose ball or closing down the keeper. Maddened by how deep we sat all 2nd half. So here we are again. Another 3 points go begging. What the hell is going on? By my reckoning that's 6 points given away in the last 5 minutes of 3 home games this season. Never mind the total capitulation at Bristol. RDM should be worried. Dr Tony will not tolerate this for too much longer. The fans have given the team backing in every game I've been to this season and been rewarded with this rubbish. They deserved to be booed off tonight.

Injuries? That's a poor excuse. We're a club in massive decline and it's taken us 5 - 6 years to get to this level. We'll be lucky to stay in this league at this rate. A lot of Villa fans thought we might drop further after last season and they might be right.

Absolute rubbish mate why are you so negative. It was obviously going to take a a good few games for the team to gel, and let's remember we are playing established championship teams. We are only 2 wins away from 4th spot and some of the top half sides will certainly drop points. Let's give ourselves a chance here.

The reason our midfield was weak on the weekend is because all the midfielders that RDM bought had minor injuries.

No hidden tactics, no RDM not knowing his best team, no conspiracies, no tactical mistakes. Injuries, end of conversation.

Is it that confusing?

Tonight is a must win!
Not just a need to win, it is a must.
Lots of chat about gelling the players and a lot of evidence that they have but still errors appear that give away goals.
Have we got the midfield to match the strikers? Not on current showing.
The defenders sometimes look fragile, yet they are proven players.
Have we seen the best team available?
I don't know, only DiM knows this.
Are we feeding the front line with the right ball?
Very few through balls, sometimes over elaborate play.
What is wrong with a long ball if it ends up in the net?
Come on, let's fill the net tonight!

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Sep 2016 16:22:03
Mendax, i'm not using statistics to manipulate anything, in my post i stated his record with the last 2 top flight clubs he managed, just facts, VillaSA has rightly come back and said his win average overall is apparently 50 %, now i could say that's manipulating his time at the mk dons and chelsea, who at that time were a top 3 team of talent, but then i could say he has only ever managed 4 clubs, and never managed any of them for anything longer than much past a year or so.

after winning the champions league for example, did abramovic give him a crack, no, because he talked to the players and staff and their opinion was, great player for us, but can he cope with pressure? well, the result should tell you something, the only point i'm making is that it feels like he's trying to make his bones with us.

i hope he can because he's a thoroughly decent man, but as Evilla says, its results based now, why aren't we doing double sessions to ingrain rhythm and confidence. what's our system, whats our plan b, what's our reset formation, and if you say it takes time, newcastle have it under manners.

we're too slow to implement change on and off the pitch, the team mirrors the manager. after 10 games if we don't have more than 14 points we're not getting auto promo.

Like I said "selective" facts
We are now not a top flight club by the way. If you really want to use "facts" to judge the merits of a manager for our fine club as they seek promotion from this division, why don't you look at RDM's record in doing that very thing, with Albion? Because it doesn't match the point you think you are proving
I'm not blindly faithful to RDM; I had some doubts when he was appointed but I'm prepared to give him a fair crack
What I cant't stand is half-baked arguments masquerading as proof .
If you don't rate RDM, fine, just say so. Don't try to prove that by looking at the statistics, what you say is the only possible conclusion someone could come to.

We have only played 6 games, the team needs time to gel and get used to playing with each other. RDM is probably still figuring out his best XI and how to get the best out of certain players. Give them time and in the next few months we will see much more positive results I'm sure.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

13 Sep 2016 09:10:30
VillaSA, there is no doubting your loyalty, but here's one for you, say your recruiting a manager for us, and a c. v. lands in front of you, the person's name is witheld, so you can only go on their job history, now the first top flight club they were at sacked them after losing 13 of 18 games in all competitions.

okay it happens, give them another chance, so their next top flight club they managed sacked them after losing 12 of 17 games in the second half of the season when they took the job, they had been at that club since october, and the loosing run was from after the winter break till end of season, would you give them the job?

i've been kind and not mentioned what the fans and players said, but it was roughly along the same lines, oh, and been not that long as a manager, that's rdm-and those are his manager's records i'm quoting, you can park the chelsea gig because he didn't manage them really, steve holland, john terry, frank lampard and didier drogba picked the team in reality, so my question to you sir is, do you still persist that he is the one to galvanise us, if you do, fair play.

Believable5 Unbelievable4

Classof82,unlike many on the site you are a realist, we are in a results business and the days of patience when people quote fergy are long gone. After five years we know what failure looks like and some of us don't see the blue skies others do. Let RDM get his team on the field for a few games to give him a fair chance, my concern, we still had nearly 50% of last year on the field at some point on Sunday this can't continue or more misery will ensue.

You can take part of any statistic and make it look negative. However if you take his complete managerial career, which gives you a better picture. After around 160 games. His win percentage is around 50% and loss ratio around 27%. So if we win half our games that puts us on 88 points and into the play offs.

But all of the above is just to prove a point. Perspective is the most important argument I am trying to make. We have a whole new team, they haven't played together long and we are dominating games. That gives me a positive outlook and coupled with RDM's career stats, the money we have spent. I can confidently say we have a good chance of going up this season.

RDM Managerial career;

217 Games
106 wins (49%)
49 draws (23%)
62 Losses (28%)

I don't understand if this original post is a joke or serious, 6 games in and people are calling for the managers head already? I don't believe it. Lads your fighting a losing battle classof82 knows exactly what goes on behind closed doors at every club. I will put it like this we employ a manager to do a job and get his own players in that cost over 40 million we are for the 1st time in 5 years steady as a club and got the backroom staff sorted that are doing a fantastic job in getting MOST fans on their side again . What I'm trying to say in short for the record sacking RDM after 6 games is both stupid and will damage the club more who would want too come to a club when results don't go our way after 6 games and know they are in the firing line from the word go. Think about it logically for God's sake not only are you making yourself look silly but your also going too bring some other people down to your level and 30000 fans behind the team on Sunday can't be wrong only the minority moan and I'm afraid too say we have a minority on here #BACKYOURTEAM.

Fact is that 6 games in and we only won 1 that is know where near good enough. Somebody said on here dr. tony knows nothink about football well his spent the most in the whole league he deserves to go up and iam sorry but if villa don't start wining games action has to be taken. dr. tony is right 1 game is unlucky not 2 3 or even 4. I'm sorry but if you get rid of RDM now it would be a disaster. I said this once before, many of the players we have bought have been thrown straight in. We also have had a bout of minor injuries lately.

But whatever you and I think is irrelevant. Its what the Doctor thinks that matters.
He's highly ambitious and has invested a massive sum of money in our club already. He's also promised to spend a lot more.
Dr. Xia is a very successful man and I'm sure that he would say to any of us that success doesn't come to those that sit and wait for it to happen.
He strikes me as quite impatient!

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Sep 2016 19:15:11
IMO our attack would be far more potent if we were a bit quicker and more direct.
Grealish although playing better is very predictable and takes far too long doing what he is doing if that makes sense, on current form I think Ayew gets the nod, problem is he needs to be more of a team player and be aware of players in space.
Ayew should be better when his mate Adomah is in the side, and follow his example, then watch us improve as a team
Midfield is shocking and needs to be changed ASAP, Westwood is dreadful and needs to warm the bench for a while, I feel Gardener will be another academy player that flatters to deceive, and will fall short of all of our expectations, I can`t put my finger on it but he lacks something!
McCormack will be a very good player for us, but I feel he is wasted taking corners etc, and he needs to play alongside a good burley striker like Kodjia and to form a two pronged attack.
So I would go:
STEER (give a chance)
De Laet,
Elphick,
Chester,
Amavi
Jedinak,
Tshibola,
Adomah, Ayew Kodjia
McCormack

Bench:
Gollini
Hutton
Bacuna
Baker
Grealish
Green
Gestede.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

12 Sep 2016 19:52:00
It is a tough one Dave, which I suppose is a good problem to have when you have too many players to choose from in attack, but Grealish has scored 2 with 1 assist and Gestede is top goal scorer thus far with 3.

I actually like our set up on Sunday up front. If we have Jedinak in front of the back four we will have extra strength and won't have Gardner needlessly giving the ball away in our half which led to a goal. If we have Tshibola in place of Westwood, I feel Grealish wasn't getting the ball quick enough because the midfield link up play was too slow (Westwood takes for ever to make decisions) and then Grealish has no space. Tshibola moves the ball up much quicker so we can counter quickly with our full attacking force.

We then put Gestede on as an impact player depending on which one of front four is lacking, which will vary game by game. The good thing is we have versatility up front. Ayew can play wing or striker, McCormack can play number 10 or striker and Grealish can play wing or number 10. This gives us tactical options to move players around to put Gestede on as an impact striker. Only problem is I have no idea what to do with Adomah.

Lastly we had some attackers missing sitters, I think they all will have there eye in soon and conversion rates will be much better and some poor team is going to get and absolute hiding.

Agree3 Disagree0

12 Sep 2016 20:19:31
Hi VillaSA, you seem to be in agreement with me about our speed going forward?
The point you make about Gardener giving the ball away, how will Jedinak playing stop Gardener giving the ball away.
About Grealish, yes he has two goals but over a season I think Adomah would score and create a lot more.
It`s only my opinion, over the years we have had so many young players promise so much yet deliver so little.
I am more than happy with the squad we have and think we can push on, but Grealish needs to mix it up a bit and be quicker about it in my book.

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Sep 2016 21:35:37
Yes I am in agreement. Well my point about Gardner is he should be on the bench with westwood. Jedinak and Tshibola should be starters as Gardner gave the ball away constantly. I don't see Jedinak doing the same. The only think I disagree with is Grealish being predictable. He was hampered as the midfield was slow in getting the ball to him. If we look at the Rotherham match Grealish was very dangerous as he was getting more time and space.

The other issue is Adomah plays on the right so if Grealish is benched, who plays on the left. Otherwise I think your spot on. But once again just my opinion mate.

12 Sep 2016 23:22:11

So after 6 games we are destined to languish in the championship for decades? NO. I have seen more attacking play and chances created since dare I say it MON was in charge. I left my seat with "what a load of muck" being muttered by someone around me. WHAT! The players are together on the pitch just look at the celebrations after the goals and the crowd were brilliant again. The post and bar have been our opponents best defenders so far this season and teams cannot handle the 3 players behind the front man. Jedinak and Tsh will be shoe ins when fit and this will further improve the performances. At 2-1 we all thought we'd win players and fans. The team stopped attaching when we were unplayable going forward, and we like them sat back and waited for the 3 points. When they scored Jed was stripped maybe he should have come on earlier, maybe we should have kept going at them and got a 3rd? Either way we ain't playing like a team sitting 17th looking over our shoulder. We are playing like a team who are looking up and fearing nobody. UTV.

This is a good post Jam Dog you're seeing things in a positive way.
However we only have 6 points . We have won once in the league and in our previous game we collapsed at Bristol City. We played well for45 minutes against Huddersfield and let them back into the game.
So yes, there are positive signs and we are much more attractive to watch than for several years. A good run is just around the corner surely.
However most fans can see that we clearly have a problem with midfield. Westwood is nowhere near good enough for a team aspiring to be promoted. Gardener neither, yet. Jedinak we've not seen yet and Tshibola is a great prospect but young, having only played 6 times last season.
So I feel that the outlook is good yes but we must address the midfield problem very soon or we may just leave our promotion push a little too late.

Kodija looks the business.
Quick, alert, intelligent and willing.
Big money spent but at present prices he could be seen as a bargain if we get back up.
I say if because we made so many errors that nothing is certain.
Many posters called for Gardener to be back at the club but I cannot see why.
I know that there are others to go into the midfield but we are slipping away.
They looked really good at times then at other times they looked like last year.
Is Grealish the answer?
Is Westwood right for us?
Midfield lacked the steel that is needed in any team.

I agree with you here oldvillan. I was at the game and kępt shaking my head at Westwood so much so i'm sure people around me must have thought i had a problem! Its very clear we were lacking in the middle of the park and hopefully Jednaik and or Tish will tighten things up. If we sort that out i think we will dominate most teams in this division. I think Grealish needs to add a killing element to his game, because today he just didn't have it. Apart from those guys Ayew looked very good, Mcormack is a craftsman, and the Kod also looks the part. Caution for RDM "Chester needs to be watched closely" is Baker a better choice?

12 Sep 2016 09:50:04
I'm guessing you mean you was shaking your head for Westwood passing back/ sideways? Well I'd rather that than him lose the ball. But then your moaning about Gardner because he attempts to go forward and to be quite honest yesterday majority of what he tried came off and if it didn't 9/ 10 he won the ball back straight away. So I don't get the argument, we don't wanna pass the ball sideways/ back but then we don't want to attempt things passing direct. So what are you actually looking for? Goals from the half way line?

can't fault today's game by the lads. only thing it lacked was that bit of luck needed to get us over the line get a win and grow in confidence and as a group. we can do no more as a team than dominate games. need to take the chances though. only think I would say is at 2 1 up I'd of put jedinak on to boss the midfield and sure us up a bit. keep the faith people this team will smash someone soon then I think we will take off. utv.

11 Sep 2016 21:12:29
I agree Jedinak should have come on in CM. This is the problem area and I think other teams are well aware of it.
They have cottonned on to the fact that we are weak when pressured in midfield.
Westwood is very limited and so is Gardener at the moment. I think they could both be off in January to Burnley and Forest respectively.
Midfield steel and creativity costs big and I feel that this is the area that the Doctor and RDM will invest in.

Kingy what an accurate review of the game, lads played well just silly mistakes at the back! If jedinak comes on that stays at 2-1 I bet. I was there and I am the first to slate players when it's deserved but do not get people calling for Westwood and gardeners head, it looked poor on paper because in previous games they've both been terrible, but yesterday they played well, Westwood was a bit limited going forward and Gardner a bit limited going back (gave 2 fouls away) but other than that they did their job! 26 shooting oppertunities created, the midfield is NOT the problem, 8 shots on target shows how much we dominated, we have to score more!

Agree re Gustede and formation. Gustede looks a different player this season, has to start, kodija looks brilliant and mccormacks record speaks for itself. BUT we do have a big problem which is preventing us from killing off teams AND holding onto a lead. Centre midfield is simply not good enough.
We can all see it. Westwood and Gardener are useless .
Can RDM not see this? .

Id like to see the championships most potent striker to be played in his natural role.

Whete does adomah fit into this equation? Who do we drop .

From the various post-match posts from 'hopeful' today, I can only assume this is a name adopted with an excruciating level of irony. It's still early days but what todays performance showed was that we can score goals, have a potentially deadly strike-force and, in Kodja, have someone who could restore the power in the air we lost with Big Ben. This is a brand new team so, at this point, still gelling. Today's performance was one of the best and most promising I have seen for a long time. Granted, Westwood looks way out of place. Some people need to get their heads around the fact that we may not bounce straight back. The reality check is that this is a very strong division - I'm sure there are embittered old Forest fans still banging on about the glory days when they won the European Cup as well and just how long has that famous old club been out of the top flight?

Agree1 Disagree2

11 Sep 2016 15:23:18

I don't buy the Birmingham Mail but I do see the odd article related to Villa. I have noticed a lot of complaints on here saying that there is an anti Villa bias. The article I read today eas with Bristol's operating officer talking about how they managed to extract the maximum amount of cash from Villa for Kodija.
Not only is it a dull piece of writing which states the obvious but the undertone seems to be we have paid too much; he's not worth it etc.
This is before the guy has kicked a ball for us.
The article might have been of interest to Bristol fans hurting from the sale of their best player, but to the people of Birmingham?

My question is why do the Mail want to undermine the club supported by the majority of their readers.
Or, am I being over sensitive?

Whilst, like most, I would view Sid as a club legend, we can’t continually be living on past glories. Perhaps that’s been part of our recent problems – continually looking backwards to the ‘glory days’ instead of forwards, and expecting us to have a team that as good as the 81/ 82 squad whereas actually we haven’t had a team that competitive since … well since 81/ 82. I’m sure we’ve all got our own personal favourite ‘legend’ from that era - Tony Morley was mine – but in many ways I would draw a parallel with the England situation – years of massive expectation from the fans but never delivered on by the team – leaving a void of desperation filled only by ageing saddos still banging on about 1966. If it’s that kind of historic glory we want to cling on to, perhaps we should all nip over to Germany and claim asylum (easy apparently) and start supporting Bayern and the German team – 26 league titles, 8 assorted European Cups, 3 Euros and 3 World Cups since 1966. However, as Villa fans we owe it to ourselves and the team to look forward at what we can achieve from now on rather than hand-wringing at what might have been.
Meanwhile, has anyone got a glass cabinet big enough to put Tony Morley in? I’m going to have him stuffed and put in my front-room ;)

Here's a thought, its obvious the baggies wouldn't let pulis spend big because they have another manager lined up, hence why he didn't go to the friendly to watch the trialists.

i reckon, if they do bin him sometime this season, why not bring him in as a consultant to take care of our defence? you could never accuse any of his teams for being tardy when it comes to the art of defence and if i were rdm i wouldn't let my pride stop me from maybe learning a trick or two along the way.

its a win-win for everyone. you can't buy experience like that nowadays, why not use it to our advantage.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

06 Sep 2016 21:08:56
Pulis doesn't just work on the defenders. He gets the whole team to act defensively. If you wanna watch that kind of football then fine; it's not for me. You could make a case for Pulis in the last 4 years of the Lerner reign when we were starved of funds and survival was an achievement. Now we are a big hitter in the division with arguably the strongest squad.

Agree1 Disagree1

06 Sep 2016 22:49:05
Agreed we have a very strong side, and rdm is the commander in chief, but i'd still take pulis's input, because as you well know, teams are going to shut up shop and try and counter attack, and unfortunate as it is to say, we seem to lack concentration and discipline in the last quarter of the game

i think pulis would definitely help us in that respect, but it probably would never happen, it would just be nice to feel relaxed when we got 20 minutes to go, not twitching and watching the clock every minute or so!

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Sep 2016 10:42:33
Speak to a few Albion fans about your idea, I'm sure they'd agree to get rid of the bugger.
If teams are going to shut up shop against us, as you correctly state, Pulis is the last guy we need.
You can, t pick and mix with Pulis, s ability. You can't have an attacking side that somehow, miraculously, also defend like a Pulis side. It's one or the other.
Lastly, could you see Pulis playing second fiddle to RDM? I can't. Having Pulis at the club would also totally undermine any incumbent manager. Nobody invites a cuckoo into there nest.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Sep 2016 17:31:01
I can't argue with those salient points there, i just remember when pulis went into palace, shored up their defence and they actually started to play attractive, positive football, but like you say, rdm and pulis would probably be like oil and water.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest mate, I think any defensive deficiencies we have are largely mental. We have good players in all positions who are set up well from a defensive perspective (it could be argued too defensive)

Really solid performance from James Chester for Wales last night, in fact, good all round performance. Compared to England the night before, just goes to show how team spirit and working for each other far outstrips throwing a bunch of supposedly top players together. Mind you, it does help if you've got Bale on the pitch.

As I suspected, Benin have not qualified for Africa cup of nations so Gestede is still with us, so it's Ayew, Adoma and Kodija, we will miss in Jan.

So Bucuna will be cover for Adoma probably and Gestede for Kodija, but we'll see what RDM and Tony have up their sleeves in Jan.

Just read a suggestion from a very bored journalist that Stephane Sessignon might offer us a bit of something different in midfield. Maybe on a one year deal.
Thoughts chaps?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Sep 2016 20:34:27
No, not good enough to get in our squad now
We should now have a principal of only buying players who are better than what we have
That is how you progress as a club. Not by buying inconsistent has-beens.

Agree2 Disagree0

02 Sep 2016 20:36:20
said this weeks ago, if you look at the players who was released by prem clubs last season and who have no team at the minute we could get half dozen if not more decent players who could still cut it at hampionship level, now they might cost few quid in wages but for a season could be worth it.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Sep 2016 22:15:51
I fall somewhere in the middle of you 2 chaps.
Yes, we should only buy players that are better than what we already have. However, yes you could possibly get one or two in that may offer you something a bit different to what you already have.
And that is where Sessignon comes in for me. Yes he is inconsistent, but on his day can run at defences. Something than neither Westwood or Gardener are capable of. So I think he may just work on a one year deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Sep 2016 23:02:35
Isn't running at defenders exactly what we bought Adomah for?
Let's face it. Sessignon was not good enough for an Albion side crying out for quality. So, he's certainly not good enough for us.
We no longer have Lerner in charge, We need to start thinking as big as Tony does
I know it's difficult to get used to but that is where we are now. It's great.

Agree4 Disagree1

03 Sep 2016 13:06:53

Update from Lanzarote:Its hot hot hot by the pool with a San Miguel in hand and reading all things Villa on here. So happy with all the aquasistions that have been bought just 1 thought what's peoples thoughts on playing Hutton right midfield? I'm his biggest critic and as long as I got a hole in my bottom is he a defender but feel his energy and heart he could do a job there for us.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

02 Sep 2016 15:29:39
If I were you Daz, I would get something else in my hand other than a San Miguel if you think Hutton should play right midfield, jeeezzz, too much pop mate.
He has got energy agreed, but that role will go to Adomah surely, with Grealish the other side then Jedinak and Tshibola sitting in the middle in front of defence, that is only IMO though.
You now have to decide what you are going to hold in your hand to replace the San Miguel! ha ha.

02 Sep 2016 16:53:42
I'm not angry at Gabby to be honest. I'd happily take my inflated wages for doing sod all given half a chance; I think most would. No point getting upset about that. The people I am annoyed at are the idiots who thought he was worth a 4 year deal in the first place. We all knew that was madness
The business Tony has done in this transfer window and the decisions made regarding the culling of some of the squad paint into sharp relief the total ineptitude of the previous management team.

Agree2 Disagree0

02 Sep 2016 18:46:42
I am really peed off with him to be honest Mendax, he has waltzed through his time at the club, and has been walking round with this bloody ego strapped on his chest thinking the club could not do without him.
In my book he will be remembered for his pathetic efforts over the last 4 years, the last couple of days have proved to me what sort of man he really is, he is prepared to sit back, pick up his money and be labelled useless, his character has been targeted, and he don’t give a dam.
Would any of us do that, I wouldn’t that’s for sure.
Sorry for being so direct but these guys take the praise when things are good, and earn a lot of cash.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Sep 2016 19:44:55
I actually agree Dave, I personally don't think I could just take my wages with out putting a shift in, and from the little I can assess if you mendax, I don't think you would.

These guys live a privilege life, and are role models for our kids, the message they portray is massive.
It's painful.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Sep 2016 15:18:35
I'm no advocate of Gabby believe me. i'm just more angry at the likes of Lerner, Riley et al who gave him the contract when the rest of us already knew he was useless
As for putting a shift in myself; yes, for reasons more to do with self-image, I suppose like to feel I am contributing at work. I'd still take any massive pay hike though!
I don't have kids (which makes me an expert on everyone else's of course) but if I did, footballers would not be their role models

Won't happen as RDM favours 2 in midfield, would rely heavily on adomah and grealish getting back an tucking in when needed somert their not great at. However Ayew on the bench I think would be the best thing for him, bring his ego back down a few notches.

I would like to add some perspective to some of those who are fairly illogical on here, solely with regards to the start of the season.

5 points from the first 5 games is not as bad as it sounds considering the following;

1. 4 points were lost to keeper blunders
2. Chester and Tshibolo didn't start the season and were thrown straight in, and McCormack had very little of a pre-season.
3. Jedinak and De Laet were signed and also thrown straight in.
4. Kodija and Adoma will also be thrown straight in.

I have faith that our staff, working with Gollini, will stem the mistakes. Secondly we need to be patient and let these lads gel, it is pretty much a whole team.

Now you might say, so was last year, but the difference from last year is all the players we brought in had no experience in the PL.

Now we have 5 players who know how to get promotion, 2 managers who know how to get promotion, 3 previous captains and 2 players who scored over 40 goals between them last championship season.

I think it would have been very difficult to have done any better this transfer window. I'm sure we never got all our targets but who ever does.

This team will get us up, that I have no doubt, we just have to be patient and get behind these players because I can assure you the next few games are going to be there hardest, because this team needs time to gel, but the Villa supporters can only make it easier if we get behind them and raise the roof.
