Use our rumours form to send us aston villa transfer rumours.

31 Oct 2015 21:41:54
Not a rumour here, but an opinion. I am a season ticket holder in the lower holte, and I am astounded that Gil is not the first name on our team sheet every week. He is the conductor of our band, and sets the tempo every time he plays. Alongside Grealish we have two very exciting players who can unlock defences.

They both look like they really enjoy playing together and link up well. I don't buy the usual argument that Gil is physically not up to the EPL, he is quality, and will create chances and score his fair share of goals! What do other Villans think, should Gil start? 100% yes from me. UTV.

31 Oct 2015 21:58:56
I agree, but either Gil, or jack, sadly I don't think we are strong enough to play both, also a problem is, they seem to only look for each other, I give you the corner against Stoke as example, on down, injury time, and Gil side foots to jack on edge of area?.

I am of the opinion, on my own I guess, that grealish is to young to be this heavily reliant, and we should be using him as an impact sub, thus no burn out, no unneeded pressure on young shoulders, and a fresh, fast young skill full sub to change games.

Gil first 60-70 mins, grealish last 20-30 mins.

We need to make sure we solid at back, start not conceding goals, thus not having to much on the attacking players, we lose most our goals from midfield.

I don't think we have the quality at the back to shore up the defence if I'm honest

Lescott looks out of sorts and a yard off the pace but being in his 30's means it's going to happen

We should be playing 4-2-3-1 in my opinion and more Maverick a bit Leicester like

Guzan

Richards Clarke Okore Amarvi

Gana Veretout

Traore Gil. Grealish

Kozak

Subs

Gestede
Sinclair
Ayew
Westwood
Lescott
Bunn
Sanchez

Sinclair and grealish interchangeable alon with Ayew and Traore also Gestede and kozak

No place for Agbonlahor as simply not good enough. Bacuna possibly for sanchez or Westwood

But when you look at the team we should not be bottom of the league . Pick the right players and things should improve.

You look at that team above and how the flip are we in the position we are? You available Ken? and are your back room staff contracted to anyone?

01 Nov 2015 19:36:22
Lol . It was just an observation Allyp1972. We all just want Villa to improve, as its been a terrible few seasons

We just need to play to the strength of the players at our disposal.

As opposed to counter attacking foorball I would just love to see Villa playing on the front foot pressing opposing teams.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Nov 2015 20:27:15
That's 100% our best team Ken, Kozak's a finisher, only seen him play totally on his own with no one within 20 yards of him (lambert negativity) so always out of his depth, a dream DM partnership woulda been Sanchez/Cambiasso, woulda bought us some time till we got new owners who could spend more on quality than quantity, all that team's missing is experience, something to sort out No1 priority for January

Sanchez is a very good ball winning defensive midfielder

However once he has won possession his distribution IMO is somewhat awful and often puts us straight back under pressure again.

From what I have seen I think Gana could be the new ball winning midfielder .

He is small, doesn't shirk a tackle and has an engine on him.

But that's just my opinion which counts for diddly.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Nov 2015 23:54:15
100% agree with your opinion Ken, Makele was small but a fantastic no nonsense ball winner, bit of that from Gana and we're sorted. Just hearing that Garde is in, let's hope he picks a team like your 1 above πŸ‘πŸ»

Hope Garde just realises that gabby should be no where near the 1st team

I think he must have a clause in his contract which says if he is fit he starts . Why else otherwise would you pick him.

Saw a video on Twitter of villa fans on the coach for Southampton, saying they don't want garde, what do they want another clueless manager for and we want someone like Pearson down here. Am I the only one who doesn't know what planet the bloke was on?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Will be really disappointed if we appoint Pearson. I get the feeling Leicester stayed up in spite of him and not because of him.

Living in Leicester, obviously having many Leicester fans, (yawn!) I have a little insight into the said bully!!
They all, to a man, wanted him sacked, even with how the team played, and finished.
Read in to that what you will!

Maybe RG's assistants not being allowed to come in is a good thing. RG doesn't have much PL experience but he can get an assistant in who knows the PL-maybe Glenn Hoddle? I know his religious beliefs aren't perfect but he's a good manager and would do well as our assistant.

I see we have another player on board who seems to think he has all the answers and knows it all.
Micah Richards has again spoken out about our next boss whoever that might be!
Taken from his quote; Micah Richards admits Aston Villa's next boss must have an instant impact to save them. OBVIOUS I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT
The skipper also believes Tim Sherwood was not given enough time before he was fired on Sunday.
This is not the first time he has spoken out about internal matters, there was that instance with Delph as well, amongst others.
This is a man who needs to grow up, the way he behaved on Saturday was a disgrace for a captain supposed to be setting examples and standards.
Don't upset things any more than they already are.

31 Oct 2015 11:44:45
Bit dramatic Flackie.
Beginning to wonder if Richards is all we want to believe.
As for Garde, unproven in PL but then so are a lot of managers coming in to the Pl.
We really are in a mess but can we expect much else as no top manager is going to come to VP.
Would we want another up and coming manager with no pedigree, someone with evidence of success or a genuine top bloke?
The latter, no chance.
Garde has some evidence of achieving, unlike our last 3 managers, so perhaps that is the way forward.
Lerner knows he has to get it right. His credibility is already at zero and the value of AVFC is disappearing before his eyes.

Agree0 Disagree1

31 Oct 2015 20:09:19
Have you read Wengers comments on Garde in Telegragh today, I know it's not popular but I respect his footballing brain and was encouraged by his opinion. Obviously the Fantastic Mr Fox does as well!

seeing all the posts about who we should or shouldn't have as a manager i have to say i do wonder what some of you are thinking at time, i know everyone is entitled to their own views but surely what we need now is a manager with not just experience but prem experience too? so moyes rodgers or pearson i think are good calls.

moyes and rodgers are both the sort of manager you need at a mid table club and pearson might be a cocky bully but if anyone can give these kids a kick up the backside that will motivate them i tink its him,

Watched game on line, must say we looked more assured at the back . Creepo &Clark looked much better, Crespo reads the game well and was organising the defence . We looked the better side up until they scored, then of course we had to come out more . We had better of the chances, first half, we just not putting them away . Except for one shot on the turn, Gabby was a waste of time again . But there where things tonight that overall looked better . Keep the faith and up the Villa.

I seen a stat on tv saying villa players cover the least amount of ground in two divisions so the team isn't even working there socks off to put it right all the teams are getting time an space because we simply can't be bothard to go to the man! Facts are leicester stayed up last year because they wanted it all the players wanted it ask yourselfs the question do villa players want it the league an stats would say different! Now yes its lerners fault an sherwoods fault but there only partly to blame why is nobody blaming the players? Brad guzan as cost us game after game Crystal Palace chelsea swansea man city last season why is there no banners for him out? Gabby agbonlahor Mr Aston Villa where is he why ent he helping? We are a mess but for me players have to take responsibility it's pathetic how they can only play for 1 half! Agree dis agree with me stats and league don't lie! Where gill where 75k a week adam troure.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

29 Oct 2015 06:07:32
The stats you refer to make absolute sense! I remember leaving the ground against WBA seething that we were always second to the ball, so slow to react especially to the loose ball. All over the season there has been a lack of closing down and as a struggling side lacking confidence and so skill then what is there left to do! The good villa sides of the past playing top teams would always chase, get at em and not allow sides to settle. Stat is disgraceful but probably reflective of some of the European main land style and how far off our new players are to adjusting to English and PL football! Great post as really gets to the root of our problem! UTV.

Pants absolute pants how long is learner and his cronies going to drag this out either go n get garde and his staff or look elsewhere and please not pearson or dych i'd sooner have hasslebank than either of them but for god sake get it sorted we are becoming a laughing stock, has someone explained to westwood the object is to get the ball between the two white uprights and not over the roof? passing was diabolical can't keep hold of the ball and lost it everytime they challenged for the ball and guzan is not the keeper of old time for a change, was going to say give him to a championship club but we would end up with him back as we are looking like a championship club!

Just finished watching us crash out the cup and it seems obvious after watching Sinclair lead the line we are in serious need of a striker. Gustede can be good with his physicality however he is just not technically good enough, Ayew shows signs of greatness playing in behind a striker or on the wing and Gabby seems to be past it in all areas. I know a manager is the main focus at the minute an January is a long time away but first thing I'd be doing is looking into Austin, Remy, Bony, Welbeck, Long, Rolan and maybe other foreign options, soon may seem unrealistic an will obviously be loaned where as others brought, however we are desperate an should look everywhere.

Just a point regarding this debacle about our manager saga!! (Or soap opera!!)

If we have seriously made me grande as our number 1 target, as the only genuine person that they want.

Why are we not prepared to get him his back room staff??
If a manager is in a job, you pay compensation, we have laid so much out in recent years in compensation, to get the team he works best in surely is a given!?

Why offer him a job, and then tie one hand behind his back?

I agree, however it remains to be known for sure whether this is down to money, or as reported in a few places more a case of Lyon playing hard ball and dismising even Villas approach and Villas apparent reluctance to hire another fitness coach. For me though this should be something Villa simply CHANGE their stance about very quickly, even if it means sacking one of the others, let Garde bring HIS own men in, especially Duverne, he's been at Villa before so he will be key to assisting Garde in settling in etc.

The question I have though is would Duverne even want to come back to Villa? We are in a worse state now than when he was last here and if you remember there was that big bust him between him, Richard Dunne and James Collins, I know both players left a while ago, but these things often leave a bad taste.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Oct 2015 21:34:20

If we want him, and he wants them as his assistants, Lyon wouldn't stop, if we agreed to pay.

I haven't posted on here for a very long time but read the posts daily. As a lifelong Villa supporter, and always will be, it saddens me greatly to see what has happened to the club. For me the problems lie much deeper than the managers we have had and subsequently sacked. There is one common denominator - Randy Lerner. He is like a poison to Aston Villa. it is he who needs to go with the rest of his aids. He has had the opportunity to sell us but is holding out for more money, well that is surely about to backfire because if we are relegated he is going to lose much much more! We need an owner who is actually passionate about football and who doesn't just see us as a 'hobby' that he is now so obviously tired of. No matter who we bring in now I feel things will not improve much because the deadwood staff are still in charge - CLEAR OFF LERNER, AND GIVE US OUR CLUB BACK!

Believable3 Unbelievable0

27 Oct 2015 16:17:40
The problem is mate, he wants to go but can't flog us
It's really not as simple as Lerner "clearing off" ; it's about someone coming in who wants to buy us
You say he wants to sell (true) but is "holding out for too much money" yet there is no way you could know that
Don't get me wrong. I'm no apologist for Lerner. But I'm equally not a fan of reducing complicated problems to simplistic solutions .

Agree3 Disagree0

27 Oct 2015 16:29:39
Old Faithful you are stealing my lines but glad to note that someone else has a dislike of Lerner.
I have posted for several months, years, that the cause of our problems lies with the person that has been present all of the time.
Lerner has to grow a pair and show that his desire is as demanding as ours or just give us our club back.
He is a mean yank and has strangled the life out of our club.
Looking at the situation with Sherwood one must wonder how Lambert put up with it all for his tenure at our club.
It would appear that the board regard our club as a selling club if you are to believe what we read in the dailys. Hence lots of low price buys that we're to be developed and then sold.
Shi. Recruitment policy, shi. Money to move us forward, shi. Attitude towards us the fans.

These negative posters are like a poison, and its infectious.
'I knew when Lerner came he would fail!'
'I knew when sherwoods came he would take us down!'
'I knew we shouldn't of got lambert!'

I think the atmosphere at VP has also contributed to our decline, we used to sing even when things were tough, I remember some great songs even when Leary, Gregory and Little we're in charge, we have lost our humour.
Perhaps if we sing to Lerner he might get the message.
Anyway following tonight's results I have just backed us to win at Southampton and to win the cup!

We are in this together, sink or swim. WHO ever is brave enough to come to villa in this mess, it's their reputation, their career. If they think they can sort this mess out, we owe them our support. Not to be 'angry' because you think you know better, or feel we should go a different way.

Villa1980 I've been a season ticket holder for 30 years.
And I happen to agree with you, in that I would prefer dm, what I won't do, and excuse me if I have read your posts wrong, is think unless it's my way, it's the wrong way, thus meaning failure, what I won't do is almost demand failure just to say 'I told you so!'

Who ever gets the job, I won't be 'angry' with, I will give my 100% backing to, until the end.

I won't dictate, I won't demand, and I won't accept 2nd best.

We all in this as one, people should get off any high horse they sit on, realise the mire we are in, stand as one, together, fighting, slagging and bickering is counter productive.

Also, 'arm chair fan?!' Really?? Get a grip!! Some can't get to the games,
1) cost
2) family
3) work

Loads of reasons. Just because you go to games, doesn't make you more of a fan, or a God given right to preach.

Ultimately there is no silver bullet here
Moyes or Guardiola, it doesn't matter. There is something rotten at the heart of the club (we all know who it is)
Unless real investment is made available in January for 3-4 players at a level about that which we have at the minute, and in the areas where we are particularly deficient, we are buggered
We need a new goalkeeper, a right-back, an aggressive ball winner in midfield and a speedy forward who knows where the net is. Then we need to pray that they all stay fit until the end of the season.

just been scouring all the on line news with regards TS and it seems Remi Garde is the hot favourite, i can see why villa are interested in him, he worked with no money what so ever at lyon had to sell his best players to invest and worked with the young kids from academy finishing 3rd 4th and 5th, he has prem experience as a player and good tactical knowledge so they say, think i would be happy with him over some of the names that's being banded about i even read now is the time to go and get chris houghton or sean dyche! really wtf, someone living in cloud cuckoo land! well whoever gets the job got lot of work to do may the force be with you as i know the villa fans will be!

He would love the villa job, is villa through and through, has managed his national side, has done all his badges, and even has sir Alex to lean on for help, and advice.

I'm not saying this would be my choice, or that it would work, but i am saying it would be pationate, exciting, and possibly a bold brace statement of intent.

What people thoughts or views. ?

I have a strange feeling that mr sherwood will walk before he is pushed. Just get a certain vibe from things, and ways he says things. I'm not saying I blame him as such, but. It does, if I'm right, ask two questions.

1) if he can see, beyond and rescue, that he is failing enough to have to leave. Why can't the powers that be??

2) what real belief in his own ability does he have, and with that, if I get that vibe from a far, what message is he saying to his staff, and players??

when Timmy signed i said as long as he is half as good as he thinks he is he'll do alright, i hoped he would be, but he hasn't.
he was successful at spuds with a far better squad, but more importantly, like a lot of successful managers it's about the ingredients they bring that make them what they are.
the biggest signing he missed out in the summer was Chris Ramsey, neither are particularly spectacular on their own but together they blend to create a stronger front, the face - timmy. there's no shame in it as its happened to far better managers than timmy (Clough / Taylor) .
foxy and randy might have their ear mufflers but i can assure them that the fat lady is not only singing, but she's coming to the end of the second verse.
we cannot carry on like this, change needs to be exacted now, . sorry tim, but good bye and good luck - the leeds will be available again in 3 weeks time.

Oh that we could turn the clock back or have seen the future as it is would we have been so happy.
Lerner is the greatest disaster that our club has endured possibly since foundation.
I named him Scrooge for not investing in our club and was criticised by some posters but I still lay his total lack of investment at his feet.
Yes he has put money into the training facilities and Villa park even the team till he and ONiel had their disagreement. Then he shut his purse and forgot the players.
What has happened to the TV money since his tenure started, poss. Β£350m? Has it all gone on ttraining and the ground?

Beware- Rant coming up :

Sunderland haven't lost in the league to Newcastle since 2011. If he gets a result tomorrow, then Big Sam may well cement himself as 'the Savior' and have the majority of fans right behind the club, unlike ourselves. We will then, of course be propping up the league. From the passion forthcoming from this site, it is clear we are all behind the team, just not behind the clueless and rudderless management hierarchy. Whilst ultimate control is with Lerner and the club is up for sale, I don't think any change of management will solve the problem. We need to face the fact that our problem is that we need either A) owners that really just care about investing in the club such that it returns a profit to them and much PR (see Man City for details), or B) - Someone local (a-la Doug) who cares about the people, the region and the club with, ultimately, the success of the club being paramount. Sir Peter Rigby springs to mind, - Birmingham-based and formerly had boxes at VP, built the multi-billion SCC brand across Europe, Responsible for Millennium Point etc, - who has invested his whole business life in Brum and been fantastically successful. Why do we need overseas billionaires to invest in the club when we have our own in the City. I suppose the answer is that they need to be willing to step up and make the investment .

I really wanted Tim given till December! I was hinging some of this on us not disgracing ourselves at CFC and getting a first home win in the league against Swansea. First part came off but today was so so sad to watch. So little confidence and creativity again. Only positive was Jordan Ayew showing another glimpse of things to come from him.
It is so desperate for the club and I agree with all the comments about rotten at the top and club in chaotic free fall!
What more can Tim do than what he is already doing? A win would have perhaps stabilised the formation tinkering and would have bred confidence in keeping with a winning side.
As we lost again my give him till December is a real doubt in whether he really can do anything more? Perhaps it is time? It is all so sad as we are such a great club and he is a decent enough bloke given so little time and so little public support from the board! UTV.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I agree to an extent, yes he is a decent bloke, but does a cockney swagger, and wink of the eye mean he is a motivator?

This constant changing of the team is both demoralising and self destructive, why is amavi dropped? How can worf get in before Clarke, and to be honest, if Clarke is injured, I would rather see Sanchez there, and worf has been a disgrace to his profession since his arrival.

How, when let's be honest it's a win at all costs, can you drop Gil? Or play bacunna the tip of a diamond? Why when we need goals so badly, with in his opinion we have the best header of a ball ever, we can't cross a ball?!

He is tactically inept, has lost the dressing room, and from my point the fans as well. His last saving grace was the press loved him. I say loved, as they are seeing through his contradictory comments.

He needs a three wheeler yellow van, and some DVDs to sell at a market, make a few quid, us all laugh, and we go home happy. He is not equipped to manage any club, let alone ours.
Can see why EVERY spurs fan wanted rid.

And I was his biggest fan a few weeks back.

Time as a club we stood up, looked ourselves in the mirror and realised some home truths.

We are not a big club anymore
We do not have a God given right to be in this league
We are the poorest team in prem since Derby

All these things are because of one man, 'our saviour' mr Lerner.
He has totally destroyed this great club, we are not only becoming the whipping boys, but have become a laughing stock.

Why does mr Lerner think we can be treated this way? Does he seriously think we can stand by and watch him destroy a generations dream? He is asset stripping, and making us a second rate, club, and I'm not only talking about the playing staff.

Sherwood, sadly, has got to go, and now. I personally thank him for the close to last season, although I do think it was the change of a manager rather than the man. However, you sadly are showing your self to be out of depth, tactically naive, and sadly unable to motivate, the players, or us fans. He has started to contradict himself in interviews, and making himself, and us look stupid.

We need a man manager, someone to lead, both on, and off the field. We need a tactician, a man who has lifted a similar club from a similar plight. We need David moyes. And we need him now.

We are toothless, spineless, leaderless, we are sinking fast, and are seriously close to death.
If we fall out this league, we have close to zero chance of getting out the championship.

I'll say two last points. Portsmouth, and Leeds.

Show us you put the club first mr Lerner, show us you actually support the team, respect us fans, show us you haven't turned your back on us, cut us adrift and are watching us sink from a far.
Show us your a man, and can make the grown up decisions.
Do it now before its to late

For many, many years I have more or less disliked Stan Collymore. I wasn't sure whether it was because he was a bit irritating and arrogant when he broadcasts, or whether it's because he likes to wind people up on twitter and then block them when they dare reply. but deep down, I always knew that it was because of what I feel he "did" to the Villa, in the sense of being a top player, joining his boyhood club and bar a handful of good performances, milk us dry and leave, essentially.

It has also annoyed me in the past when like just recently in his little statement aimed at the club for sacking him. That this is "his" Villa etc and he would get a plane, train, bus etc for them. But yet had the opportunity once upon a time and didn't take it.

However only recently has I started to see things a little differently.
For all those reasons I mentioned above besides the twitter bit, would also completely apply to Gabby Agbonlahor, well except him being a top player, sadly Gabby peaked about 4 seasons ago and has declined rapidly since, yet as a "die hard" supporter just like stan, is one of the highest earners at the club, yet provides very little, certainly no more than anyone else on far less money who don't claim to love the club.

I personally think that if Stan wants to start any little 'supporters group or petition' or do anything to pay the club back it should be to demand Gabby takes 50% pay cut and we use that 30k to bring in another striker in Jan!

Some of you may think I am being harsh but it's just a case of reality, last week on his birthday the mail produced a happy birthday article showcasing ALL his Villa goals to date, I honestly think that is A MUST read article for every Villa fan as I'm sure most of them really don't have any idea just how poor his record is and has been for some time.

You want to try and narrow down the root cause of Villas problems? Look at the common denominators, essentially anyone who has been in a serious capacity there since MON left.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

22 Oct 2015 17:42:00
Hi fplmorg.
You don`t have to explain to me about being harsh on Agbonlahor mate.
He has milked Villa for years and is far from being a top player or a legend in my eyes, he has had 2 seasons at best wearing a Villa shirt.
For whatever reason all of our most recent managers have persisted in his name being on the team sheet, why I ask?
I am like you guys, just a run of the mill everyday bloke who loves his family, his pint, and his beloved Villa, but even I can see he ain`t good enough.
Loyalty does not come into this at all, he knows which side his bread is buttered.
I also agree with the rest of you post, well said.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Oct 2015 21:55:53
Although gabby isn't prolific he is a handful for opposition teams an creates space/chances for other players. Having met him as well I can tell you he is a top lad. Next time we all sing his name make sure you 2 sit down an be quiet. It
It's obvious the problem is at the top now you 2 are trying to blame gabby. Laughable.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Oct 2015 22:24:05
I am not blaming Agbonlahor for our current situation, I am just making a point about a player who I feel is not good enough, it`s my opinion mate.
If that offends you tough, I say it as it is, as fplmorg has pointed out take a look back at his record for us its shocking.

I have met him as well and yes he seems ok to talk too, that does not make him a good player.
And yes as you say the problem is at the top, but it also runs all through the club.
That said you can sit down now and let people make a point, and laugh about it, is that good enough for you?

Yes pretty shocking. Our overall prem league top goal scorer. Really really bad. Show the lad some respect
"Milked villa for years" and you call your self supporters!
Where is the support! Maybe if we didn't have as many doom an gloom merchants watching us we would do a little better. Gabby always try's his best an if a player gives his all that's good enough for me.

Agree2 Disagree0

23 Oct 2015 14:09:33
I also mentioned our problems were at the top, if you read up, i essentially blamed anyone who has been there for significant time, they all share the blame (some far more so than others) but that's not our only problems. We have problems within our own fanbase. y

Your blind defence of Gabby only goes to prove just how fall Villa as a club must have fallen, if he's a top lad because he gave you the time of day in person, or occasionally he might cause a defence some problems in your opinion still doesn't justify top wages and a regular starting place., he is a STRIKER playing for the club he LOVES and just about averaging a goal every 7/8 games, it's NOT good enough.

Be realistic how many other teams in the premier league would Gabby play regularly for? If he was at a top 6 club they'd have gotten rid 3 years ago! probably to us!

I wasn't blaming the whole clubs state on a player, I never have, I never will, that would be insane.
I am simply adding my own personal criticism of a player that for the most part is protected by the club and most supporters, but for you to retort saying I should sit down and shut up effectively because I'm willing to state my opinion on a website intended for EXACTLY that purpose is just rude.

I am all for supporting the team, I was a season ticket holder for 9 years up until last season! And like I said in a previous post, the least I expect in return is for the club to meet me halfway.

I've heard for many, many years Emile Heskey was a really nice bloke, and two years ago I bumped into him in Brum airport and I can confirm that he is a genuinely humble and very pleasant, but that didn't change my opinion of him as a footballer, or change my opinion of the performances he put in for Villa. That's irrelevant to what his personality is like.

I'm sure Randy Lerner is a really "top bloke" to his friends and family, but what difference does that make to his ability as an owner?

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Oct 2015 14:11:49
PS. If I played for Villa I would give my absolute all for them every second I was on or off the pitch, it would be an honour just to be there, so by your logic I deserve a contract also.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Oct 2015 15:27:17
Yeah, I take it all back; Gabby is the finest palyer to put on a Villa shirt. The fact that he does it for as little as Β£60 to 70K a week make his efforts even more laudable
I dunno what I was thinking of.

Right I'm not going to jump on the band wagon here about gabby
But it does seem he is getting a lot of the blame here
It was those at the top the gave him his over paid wages (I'm sure gabby was picking his lips when he renewed his contract
He played his best football under O Neill and that was out on the wing when he could use his pace
During that time he had a lot of better players around him
As a forward I do think gabby is pretty clueless he needs to be running at defender's
To be fair gabby should have moved on maybe 3 seasons ago he needs a new challenge now
It goes to show how bad we have been under Lerner if he is our top scorer Carew, Bent, these were top notch players and we just let them go so at moment guys gabby probably offers the best of what we have
It think we wasted 50 million this summer.

I would argue that Gestede, Sinclair and Kozak are all as good as, and just as likely to score as many goals as Gabby this season if given the same opportunities. And I might be sticking my neck out here but I wouldn't be surprised if both Ayew and Traore out score him this season too!

However I totally agree it only showcases how far from grace Villa have fallen to have Gabby as our top goalscorer and to think of some of the better players we've had at the club we've let go too easilly whilst keeping hold of him.

Me thinks that we have been here before and laid the blame at Lambert door. Now its at Sherwoods door. Only difference is that Sherwood spent Β£50m to get us back where we started.
I struggle to think of a proven manager that would want to come to VP under the current senior management, would you?
Every supporter knows that lack of investment has put us in the position we are in.
To stand still in the prem at least Β£20 PA is needed. What did Lambert get Β£5? All of his buys were not crap and from what we now read about Reilly, recruitment, perhaps they were not his choices.
I really cannot see us improving until the clowns go back and real football people come in to support any manager we have.

I understand those that come on here saying we need to get behind the side. But today in highlights the trouble we're in. Sherwood is out of his depth, and clueless. What was Richardson doing in the side ahead of Amavi. He quite simply is not good enough. And Ayew? To say we got the wrong Ayew is an understatement. I was told earlier in the season to give him more time. He doesn't need time, he's not a good footballer, that's all there is to it. Sherwood tinkers with the team non-stop, but there seems no rhyme or reason behind his decision making. I'm at a loss, so many losses on the trot. We thought we were in trouble last season. I look at our fixtures and can't see where the next win is coming from.

I think we are in a hugely difficult period for the club
Let's go back to basics
Generally speaking I think it's fair to say that most of us were happy for Sherwood to start the season
So, effectively, to say we now want him sacked after 8 games is pretty extreme and it could be argued an over-reaction
Then again, most bad runs are not as bad as this. It's quite extraordinary to go so many games without a point
Adding to this, is the confusion about what level of authority Sherwood has in buying players. If it is the case that the majority of players bought were not Sherwood's, it adds a whole new dimension to the decision on whether to sack him or not; any new manager, presumably will be working under the same restrictions?
Also, we need to consider who is available and/or would be prepared to take the job on with the restrictions that Lerner imposes
I think, on balance, that a manager we were largely happy to start the season with should be allowed to atleast get to double figures in terms of games played before a decision is made on his and our future
Sacking Sherwood is easy; sorting out the problem is a whole different ballgame.

Moyes would be an amazing acquisition and should have been with us pre Lambert.
Pearson would be a no nonsense manager, not afraid to give some home truths.
Are we sure that Sherwood is on his way?
Should never have been signed; panic choice to appease the fans, us.
The board must ensure that the next manager is the real deal or they should all go away.
AVFC is a laughing stock to other fans and this must stop if only to save Lerners face and hasten a new owner.

Totally agree regarding Moyes, think we should have nabbed him before he headed to Spain, don't think we'd have gotten him any time before that, couldn't see him leaving Everton for anyone except Man U.

Think Pearson would have short term effect, but wouldn't last long at Villa you have to keep your mouth shut about all the shi* that goes on at board level and I don't think he could do that.

"The board must ensure that the next manager is the real deal or they should all go away.
AVFC is a laughing stock to other fans and this must stop if only to save Lerners face and hasten a new owner."

Pretty much sums up my feelings too, I would only add that I don't have too much faith in this happening. Almost every staff appointment made at AVFC since Doug Ellis left has been a disaster or they've been Mr Invisible, just another name drawing a wage.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Oct 2015 18:15:31
I would also add that if a sufficient(not someone as a short term gap) replacement cannot be found, then there is no point in sacking Sherwood for sackings sake, only to replace him with another waste of time we have to sack again in 12 months time. The appointment must be the right one, or none at all.

The serious truth is the only really position at Aston Villa that needs changing with any real PANIC is the ownership.
With no interest, no ambition, no direction and zero leadership shown from the the board, what is the point in even having a manager or even a team?

If you are still unsure what I am talking about, re watch the FA CUP final (if you can) and you'll see the problem a few times, laughing and joking completely disinterested while his "beloved" team are torn to shreds.

Also, after this, left through ill health.

Have an opinion, even flounder the truth as in a youth team member said this or that, but do us the courtesy of, in terms of history, knowing facts.

One more thing, even if, and it's a huge big if, they where not his pick of players. Does that mean he can't train them, give them a game plan, or inspire them to at least try??

He trained youth team football before, did he personally pick these players? or did he take what he had available, and motivate, and train them, who ever they had there?

09 Oct 2015 17:11:42
I think that's a pretty good 5 step plan for certain relegation and financial ruin. I really don't understand why people are crying out for one of these mercenary managers(can half understand case for Fat Sam but not Redknapp or Pearson. Its just desperate, we may aswell just reappoint Mcleish at least he has a brief idea of the set up we have!
If Randy Lerner refuses to invest enough to make sure we signed a top striker in the summer is hardly likely to shell out 30/40m in Jan or even dream about expanding the stadium.

I am not directly having a go at your mate, you're entitled to your own thoughts and opinions as we all are, but it seems as though you want change for change sake and are willing to except anything as long as its different to this. Which could be an equally costly mistake.
Whilst i am in total agreement that things need to change, these changes need to begin at the top with the owner. There is no point keep changing the manager without changing the philosophy of the club, which at the moment should read "hang on if you can, if not ah well"

If you look at the success of other big clubs it is because they have a goal, a dream a philosophy that the entire club, coaching staff, players, youngsters and supporters buy into and that is why it works. It helps when scouting players, it helps when coming up with tactics it helps when brooding in youngsters. The whole club should be on the same wave length, and it all comes from the top.

As many have mentioned, exactly WHAT does Randy Lener inspire? Exactly what is Randy Lerner, doing or ever done since MON(darren bent signing aside) left to push the team forward? Or better still even remain stood still? Every year for 6 seasons now we have progressively gotten worse and nearer the drop, with 4 different managers, numerous assistants and coaches and many squad overhauls, the common denominator remains at the top, in america on a sun bed, not giving a shi*

There are a lot of pissed off and passionate people on here and thousands more all over the place and the only way any of this is going to get better any time soon, is when we stop bickering with each other and unite against the common denominator, unite against the owner, change the board, even if the club has to become supporter owned and we only spend the tv money, it will be better than it is now.

Real fans care, real fans take the time to come on something like this and share their feelings (mostly bad lol) and show the passion required to will the team to Do better. What is mental is that we all have the interest of the team in our heart. We all sit their on a Saturday whether it be at home or in the ground itself and cross our fingers and hope that this is the week we turn it around. Yes, most Saturday's we walk/drive home dissapointed and it can ruin your whole weekend. But we do it because we love the Villa. I have written a couple of posts lately asking for the gloom and doom merchants to keep quiet and support rather than moan. We are no better now than we was under lambert. Lookin at the next few games I am really worried an can't see us pickin up so many points. We you not the one banging the drum about sherwood a couple of weeks ago about keeping faith and how quick villa fans want to sack a manager and quick we are to jump on players backs

I said during the window we needed defoe or hernandez, neither of them did we pit in a bid for we bid for (Dwight gale) who was going to be no better than what we have
We needed a proven central midfielder never got one
Grealish, sinclare, gill can not play in the same team together because we are too weak in central midfield to let them 3 go and play
Gill looks as if he playing badly because of our right back problem everything seems to be comeing from that side
Our squad is no more balanced than what it was last season sherwood has spent a nice amount of money results have been poorer than this time last year we are hearing the same excuse week after week year after year, at least lambert make us a little bit hard to beat now you just wake up on a Saturday morning thinking how will we get bet by today no matter who we are playing
I was watchin palace and Watford a couple of weeks ago both of there squads are much stronger than ours they haven't spend massive money just got in proven managers
Unless we change soon we will be going down because as it stands now we have win 2 games to get out of this mess and I can't see who we are going to win 2 games against so it won't be long until we are rooted at the bottom and we will have to win 5/6 games we need to act now

I'm sorry I wasn't one of these so called 'fans' that seemed to love the idea of failure, that almost pray for it, so they can rant and moan.
I'm sorry I was looking for stability, and thought that mindless criticism was not a productive way of going forward.

And I to an extent agree with what you say. What gets my back up, what I find offensive is blind ignorance to previous posts.

What I find dangerous is certain fans desire for us to fail, just to get on the players/coaches/managers back, to blame them. To ride them.
Let's pretend that these guys come on here, see these posts.
What on here inspires them to try harder, to improve??
I'm not stupid, I agree these guys are paid hideous wages, but, they are human.

Looking at recent news regarding managers employment ending, is it not time that someone at VP grow a pair and really go for a big one?
Out there are several proven ex managers looking in and hoping that a call comes through.
Not just English managers but proven on the pitch.
Timmy claimed a 50% win rate when he joined but that is now about 5%.
Who fell for his limited average when other clubs passed him over?
Sherwood will not save us so do the decent thing a day put him out of his misery and then get a real manager to raise us to respectable levels.

Just as a matter of interest Oldvillan who would that be?
We do need something to happen and happen soon, timing is going to be crucial here, and I for one am not sure when this should happen, or who we should approach.
I am struggling like we all are as to our current plight, but we all know that any changes at management level will not happen until we are more or less dead in the water.
However I think that time will come before the end of November, my reasoning behind this is our run of matches: Chelsea (a) Swansea (h) Southampton (a cup) Tottenham (a) Man City (h) Everton (a)
The way we are playing at the moment I can only see us getting 1point from that lot, to me that will pretty much be dead in the water.
I do like Tim but I am really concerned about the way things are going.
We looked no better than we did under Lambert on Saturday and yet we had to wait until we went a goal down before any creativity was introduced, very questionable tactics to me.

Dave, we cannot do any worse than we are at the moment.
I would take almost any PROVEN manager in the situation we face.
You know where I feel the problem lies and it will take more than Lerner is prepared to give anyone coming in to get real top coach/manager.
I posted earlier that we need a mean manager prepared to rock the boat and upset some people at the top. Pearson is a bully, I don't really like him but his enthusiasm and overall attitude would frighten a few people.
I am not saying we should jump in and open the doors to him.
LFC had already decided that Rogers was going hopefully top brass have been active the same way.
Don't want a budding manager, I want a man manager.

Wow, there really is no flies on you.

And if you read what I wrote, it doesn't say that! It says that I wanted nothing less than to say what I did, unlike you, and many others, I didn't jump on his back and call for his head from word go.

I wanted him to succeed, and thought he might, I also didn't, and don't think that moronic negativity creates a positive response.

However, I've been wrong before!.

What irritates me about fans like you Villa 1980, is that you would rather the team did poorly in a game if you had predicted it the week before.
In your head, it gives you some kind of kudos
My "tune" last week, the week before that and for the weeks to come is to look at what I see and share my views with fellow fans in a balanced way free of hysteria or petty point scoring. My tune's not changed

Take note timmy, Advocate has fallen on his sword stating lack of funding.
You have spent in 3 months what Lambert spent in 5 years.
Nothing has been added in terms of the way the team plays. However that may be down to Wilkins who seldom sent the ball forward. He was nicknam"sideways" by many supporters.
SAFC will get first call on the next available manager so expect to see Big Sam back in work.
Lerner will not sack Sherwood as he cannot get another failure on his personal CV.

04 Oct 2015 10:57:28 I always swore I wouldn't turn in ts, that we as a club needed stability, and I believed that this summer we had turned the corner, we would be mid table, comfortable, possibly another cup run, and kick on in Jan, or the summer again! But. And it's hard to post, this isn't the case. We are clueless, no tactics, no real belief, and sadly we are now toothless. This sadly comes from the top. I want with all my heart Tim to be a success, to sort this out, but we are in danger of being adrift, and down by Easter. We are not at the stage of needing a miracle, just Devine intervention. Please Lerner, stand up, be counted, if you won't act like our owner now, act like the supporter you say you are, and do the right thing

Mr Lerner needs to watch Toy Story 3 and see what big boys do when they tire or grow out of playing with their Toys! They find someone to love and cherish them!
He obviously has no interest and gets no enjoyment from owning our club so please Mr Lerner find a way to give a real fan a chance. I am sure you would get more Bucks now before we drop into Championship!

04 Oct 2015 16:24:20
Wow! Toy story 3!! Knowing what you watch all day, I was expecting a 'pointless' reference.

But you are right. I seriously do think we close to a good team, but can't understand this negative tactics, how we slow play down every time we have possession, for example, 1-0 down yesterday, get a corner in injury time, apparently we have the best attacking header of a ball in the box, and Gil side foots it to each of area??

These tactics have got to be coming from sherwood. And it's not acceptable.

Ffs it's not rocket science!! To score a goal, you got to first attack, and then you have to shoot!!. We don't do either!
Its frankly not good enough or acceptable.
Attendance is dropping, belief is leaving, points are passing as by, games are going fast, and time has ran its course.

Thank you for last year Tim. But please, no more.

04 Oct 2015 10:01:24
I see on other sites that Lerner is the cause of all our problems but this time Sherwood was recommended by Tom Fox a highly respected figure in football so I can't blame Lerner.

I said at the time that signing Sherwood was akin to getting an apprentice mechanic to rebuild a Ferrari engine and have it ready by the end of day.

Sherwood basically had half a seasons experience as a manager, but people said he did wonders with the kids. I think Cowans and McDonald have done wonders with our kids but would you let them loose on the first team, I think not.

Sherwood said our players aren't fit, it is nearly 10 weeks plus at least a month pre season into the season, we have played 10 games in league and cup plus half a dozen pre season games. If these players are not fit or gelling there is something very wrong and I truly believe it is the manager, after all most of the players he bought.

I know he says we have a lot of new players but not as many as Watford and they play better football and have more points.

I say get the apprentice out, along with Wilkins and get an experienced manager in before it is too late.

03 Oct 2015 23:59:51
Gotta say i'm worried after the past couple of games and starting to doubt sherwood after fully backing him till now. Different team played every week. ? Just put out the best 11 and leave them to 'gel'. WHY IS WESTWOOD STILL TAKING CORNERS??? Awful. The only player that has stood out for me every game is richards, worried he'll be poached if we don't improve.
It was like watching us under lambert today.
COME ON VILLA!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

03 Oct 2015 22:07:30
So the great debate picks up!! Is is a case still of players need to gel or are they not good enough or is it both and the manager is tactically nieve??? Today was awful with no green shoots of players gelling!! The choice of starting line up for a game against fellow strugglers was hard to fathom! I think TS is not far off mowing his favoured 14. As for not starting again with Jack G I really don't understand. When he came on to be fair didn't turn the game like against SHA! What has happened to Gil??? How have web stripped him of all that passion and attacking beat players in front of him??? Now we see short passes to led or right or back??!!

Communication and gelling is way off, very little evidence through team of real P league quality, confidence is waning further and further and TS is coming over as desperate and struggling to fathom what to do.

Quite a fire combination and pattern to break!!! Desperate for a win anywhere!!

I am really worried and it still being early days is wearing thin. Look at who we have played over first 11 games. It will be typical villa if we get a couple of shocks with the next hard fixtures but won't hold my breath!!! Will never boo but need more to cheer UTV

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Oct 2015 22:50:21
i think one the main problems could be solved quite easily by doing the obvious, playing kozak he is a proven goal scorer i thought kinda the reason we bought him, after that then work on the rest and as most say i think westwood sitting a few out might chnge our direction of play

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Oct 2015 18:27:54
think its safe to say now there are very few fans that still want sherwood as boss. i'm not even going to say players are the problem anymore other than 1 or 2 i feel we have plenty in the team that are good enough to least stick us mid-table but for some reason either it being the lads don't have the confidence in sherwood or he couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery its not working.

we now played 1/4 the season and we don't even look any better.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

03 Oct 2015 17:54:40
I have backed Tim Sherwood all the way from the time he became our manager until today.
I do think his team selection at times leaves a lot to be desired, but today for instance I was speechless.
He must surely know which is his strongest line up, it is time for him to pick a team and stick with it and give them time to gel.
He has not played the same team twice, and if you look back we have not played 45 minutes of any game the same, (ok first half, poor second half) (poor first half, ok second half) its not good enough.
We are starting to pass sideways again and take too long with our build up.
It is clear to me that Gil must be in the starting eleven, and go from there.
Things will have to change soon Mr Sherwood or we are going to be up to our necks in the brown stuff.
I am not one to panic but we could be cut adrift after our next 3 league games, look at the fixtures for us and teams down there with us.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

03 Oct 2015 18:42:43
im past caring now. got to say that most of these games are lost due to tims tactics and changes. just once i'd love to see veretout and gana in midfield without westwood running around not breaking up play or not creating play. what is his role. the goal we conceded today was shocking I've never seen a defence that open wasn't a great run or a great pass just a massive hole. why has clark been dropped for lescot now Crespo. okore hopefully will come bk now tht he is fit.

Richards - okore - clark - amavi
veretout - gana
traore - gil - grealish
gestede

id probably even put kozak up front haven't seen him at all this season but I watched every pre season game and he was on fire and his hold up play was excellent.

Richards isn't a centre back and will never get back into the England team as a centre back so jjust go back to your position at right back were we are clearly struggling

Presumably MacClaren - he'll be available come tomorrow morning and is a dab-hand at managing Championship material so I assume all the Holte-End Doomsayers will be happy . Either that or Pardew, for some inexplicable reason, has a massive fall-out with the Palace board tonight. OK, so this is our worst opening performance since 1986-7 when of course we - errr - got relegated Mind you, so did Man City that season so all we need is a couple of billion quid and a South American manager and Robert's your mothers brother. However, we're only 4 points off 15th place which is 2 places higher than last season's finish. Keep the faith people - consider the fact that Gabi has played in every winning league game so far this season . However, we do now need an average of more than one point per game for the rest of the season to end up with more points than Hull got relegated with last season.

Id rather have John Gregory back than almost all of the mercenaries that are constantly linked with jobs, after being sacked repeatedly by former clubs.
Most people seem to want fat sam to take over but if he does I can guarantee if we do stay up this time next season we will be calling for his head too, because we will still be down the bottom and the football will be awful.
Sick of people just coming and taking the money, don't care so much about 'pedigree' just want someone who actually cares.

People seem to get fixated on the idea of someone having the sack so much they basically are willing to let anyone replace them.

Worst Villa team in years. Cannot believe how Sherwood is still in charge. Β£40m+ wasted in Summer. Where the hell is Traore??? He's spent more time on the physios couch than on the pitch. He clearly doesn't want to play and is regretting signing.
Why was Grealish on the bench from the start?
We're simply not good enough.
Relegation will be a relief for this sorry club.

Many posters stated that Paul Lambert was useless, no idea etc etc.
What has this guy got? FA!
50m spent in 3months but he is incapable of doing a simple jigsaw.
Some good players came in but seem to have no guidance.
I don't like the man but Pearson could put some steel into the side. He was a bully as a player and even as a manager. We don't need a nice guy we need a mean bastard to remind the team of what is required.

Agree5 Disagree0

03 Oct 2015 17:26:12
Facts? Here's one: Worst start in league since 86/87 season which, by the way, was last time we were relegated.

Quoting a fact that is true, and not something anyone would deny, doesn't make the other fiction you spouted sound any less ridiculous
Anyway, we can both agree on one thing. This kind of display is not acceptable
Whether simply getting rid of Sherwood is the answer, I'm not sure
There has been a lot calls for Allardyce (not for me) yet he has endured similar runs of form with West Ham to that we are enjoying with Sherwood
A time for cool heads, on the pitch, behind the scenes and on the terraces
Booing a team off solves nothing

What is going on?
Half time and hardly an effort on goal. Sherwood is out of his depth but the way we are going he will be useless in the championship as well.
If he can't get the team to shoot at goal what can he do.
Our club is being destroyed in front of our eyes by totally inept management throughout.
From the very top the lifeblood of AVFC is being drained away.
The usual people will accuse me of being negative.
Bo. A. s.
For too long we have suffered with an owner who has lost interest. He seldom see VP and leaves everything to his minions.
We deserve better. The faithful that regularly pay our hard earned money to watch a team that seems to have no spirit and little positive attitude. If the management were wage earners working for a boss in the real world they would have had final wzrnings.
I want to be proud of my team, your team, our team but someone at the top is not helping us fulfil our dreams.
