Good result in the end, snatched their hand off, for that before game . On the first half performance, didn't think we would get anything . They where stronger, faster and wanted it more . Their work rate, closing us down was impressive. What ever Brucie said at half time certainly worked . Much more energy& effort, compleatly different . Poor old Albert never got a kick, Leeds had two on him every opportunity . As has been said Onomah just wasent at the races tonight . Weelen had a great game again and big Samba lasted well . Nice to see Landsbry get his goal . when he was at Forrest his best games where at No 10, perhaps worth a try . At least we showed the fight needed, in the end we deserved it . At least we have over a week to recover, before the next one . Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

Cant improve on what you already have said davedean in the end we deserved that point second half it was like a different team.

02 Dec 2017 08:06:11
We are showing more bottle than in previous years and 1 point at Leeds is a good point,
Just wish Cardiff would stop winning?
But 20 games in and 36 points is better than I expected so now for millwall,

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Dec 2017 21:54:00
Excellent second half but couldn't cope with their pressure or intensity in the first. Onomah was absolutely awful, Grealish was a breath of fresh air when he came on, hadn't seen him properly in so long forget how good technically and running at people he was. Davis also probably had his worst game, half expected him to struggle against Jansennn because he's a decent centre half (although he is an arrogant, cheating wet wipe) but he struggled against anyone he came up against tonight, even their tiny centre mides were bullying him at one point, but I suppose that's to be expected with a young lad, highlights the need for reinforcements asap! Taylor and Whelan stood out. After a shocking first half we ended up with more shots on target so really turned it round second half. A draw is a good result at Elland road and better than a loss, big month, need that second half performance for ninety minutes in the next few games.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

02 Dec 2017 08:10:42
Totally agree about onomah who was very poor,
For me he is a player who
lacks consistent performances
Grealish was outstanding
Whelan was also very good,
He reminds me of des bremmer who does not stand out but does the dirty work,

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Dec 2017 20:41:45
Onomah just had one of the worst first halves I think I've ever seen a player have, did he complete a pass?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

01 Dec 2017 22:11:58
Maybe Lansbury or Grealish will replace him?

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Dec 2017 09:59:46
Delighted for Lansbury and he looked pretty chuffed too! Agree about how poor JO was and just had one of those bad days at the office. With all our injuries it is great to have options of Supr Jack and Henry! Thought Whelan again silenced the doubters with another solid performance and as already said 1:1 draw is a sound result in the cauldron of Ellen Rd! UTV.

Sorry Mainbob and Claret, not picking but Leeds had 4 points last year not 6.
We lost 2-0 away and drew 1-1 at Villa park, Kodjia with a late penalty.

01 Dec 2017 16:52:01
Leeds have a better record over villa last few years and hopefully it goes in our favour tonight
A win for us and defeats or lost points for Cardiff and sheff utd would be a big turning point but a loss tonight and Cardiff and sheff getting wins would be a big step backwards,
Still hoping for a 1- 0 win,
Come on you lions!

Right prediction time is here to tonight,
Mine is a hard 1-0 win for villa,
Leeds is a very tough fixture anytime with there passionate fans,
But they took 6 points of us last season and now it's payback time,

Believable1 Unbelievable0

01 Dec 2017 13:07:15
Think your bang on mainbob its going to be quite a tough one as you said six points they took of us last year. Think its a one nil score line but don't know which way that's going to go. would love it to be us mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Dec 2017 15:20:58
Can't see nothing but a defeat tonight I'm afraid with our injuries piling up its going to be a tough winter bring on January and if we are still in touching distance of promotion I would bet my life on it that we go up I'd love to see Charlie Austin, Danny Ings and Crouch on loan for rest of season and 1 Centre Half #DREAMER.

Any one heard how bad the injury to Jedinak is?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Nov 2017 19:45:58
Hi Worcesterboy, it seems nobody has a clue as to what sort of injury the Jedi has, so I have had a scout around and found this article.

I hope it helps, read on mate.

Jedinak's club side Aston Villa revealed the midfielder is suffering from a shoulder knock which is expected to sideline him for at least six weeks.

The injury is unrelated to the groin complaint from which he triumphantly returned in the intercontinental play-off victory against Honduras.

Jedinak hurt his shoulder early in Villa's win over Ipswich last weekend and, after consulting a specialist, was informed he may require an operation.

Hes been advised to rest and see how it is in the next week to see if it starts to heal itself. Villa boss Steve Bruce told the club's official website.

If it does, we can let nature takes its course and it could be six weeks then.

If it doesn't, then there will be an operation which will probably take the best part of 12 weeks.

Well just been listening to the local radio a wolves fan as just said wolves will get promoted and will win the premier league and champions league in two years what's the point in carrying on . l say let them have there dreams after all don't forget when we were down in the third division who would have thought we would have gone on to win the league and European cup super cup and league cup a few times but luck at us know. They have been down in the old forth division and it took a villa man to drag them back up good old Brian and look how they treated him so do they deserve a bit of success probably.

I heard the same show and I think it was a silly thing to say if you don't go up this season you want your head looking at its a awful league the worst I have seen there getting far to excited they are beating Bolton and Birmingham teams like that not Man Utd and Chelsea an Man City. Wolves fans need to calm down.

26 Nov 2017 09:54:43
Comfortable is probably the best way to describe the game yesterday, had a few more good chances to score but the result never looked in danger - good to see, 9 points in a week is exactly what we need. If Cardiff lose or draw today then we are max 3 points of second. We have been on an unbelievable run but I think our next 7 games which include Leeds, Derby, Sheff United, Middlesbrough and Brentford will decide whether we will be top two or play offs, And with 1 fit striker it could be a struggle. The amount of injuries we have and have had so far this season is unbelievable but also shows the depth of the squad, if Wolves lost Jota, Bonatini, Caveleiro, Neves and Boly or Bath at the back would they be sweeping teams aside still? No they'd have the same team that finished 15th last year, whereas we have had injuries to key players from last year like Kodjia and Jedinak, injuries to players who looked to be key to Brucies plans like Grealish, players who had come in and made us a real unit like Terry and then our second options are getting freak injuries like Hogan and Lansbury, and yet we've still ploughed on through. Hopefully the injuries stop and other teams start picking them up as the schedule gets crammed up.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

26 Nov 2017 12:49:01
Couldnt agree more chris, everything you said is on the money. I fear for us over the next few games with the teams we are going to be up against. The injury situation is appalling to have even one key player out injured is bad enough. Hopefully the fans will realise this if results don't go our way. i'm hoping they do but you have to be realistic.

26 Nov 2017 15:36:08
On the button Chris,
It's going to really test our squad now,
Next 6 games will tell us with out destination for the season,
We have done great up to now but these injuries are really putting our quest for promotion into question,
There must be a load of black cats roaming around villa park?

Great solid performance today against a prettyi poor Ipswich who I thought would test us more! Albert was class and so confident what a first well meant clip past the keeper and no worries second goal! Davis again led the line so well and shame didn't register a goal. All feeling really positive and full of confidence going into the critical festive season UTV.

24 Nov 2017 23:02:47
Certainly interesting times ahead. Just being the forever optometrist, I recall that great start to that John Gregory season that saw villla top at Christmas! If I recall we had a similar striker issue. It somehow this made us more unpredictable with goals coming from all over the team! Every game seems to be a new test following on from hard midweek effort, Ipswich are certainly no mugs. We will need to dig deep and hopefully Davies will pull the performance out of the bag we now know he is capable of?! UTV.

Quick question. With kodja being injured the ivory coast call g him up. Then he gets injured again and could miss the season. Does this mean that we are due compensation from the ivory coast f. a. As I know teams have been given it from our f. a in the past.

I think their looking into it, could be entitled to something due to insurance etc. From what I’ve heard, we kept him out against Wednesday because he was sore, plan was to bring him back after internationals. He was training etc and then their doctor did a medical which their entitled to do and he passed him fit, so could easily be due to desperation or the doctors gross negligence they’ve forced it through.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

21 Nov 2017 22:55:05
Well we made hard work of that, that was a very tired performance . Samba had a good game and some of Huttons tackles where brilliant . Taylor had, I think the worst game iv seen him have Every thing he did looked laboured . The big part of Onohah's game is his movement and energy, it just wasent there tonight . Davis it just wasent his night, even changing his boots didn't work . Albert worked his socks off and Snoddy also worked hard . Over all a scruffy win, but a win . Also the other results went for us tonight . I reckon the Jedi will be back in against Ipswitch, Weelen took a couple of heavy knocks . So Brucie get the rested and back up for it on Saturday. 21 Nov 2017 16:07:50
No excuses tonight,
Sunderland have a big injury crisis with there best players all out,
Complacency is our main concern,
Must start with a high tempo and get that early goal,
If we do that I'm confident we will win,
But these are the type of games where villa foul up big time,
Very disappointed if we drop any points,

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Lads, what do we need in January?

Judging by comments made by Bruce it doesn't appear we have much to spend - That being said, where do you think we need to strengthen?

I think a striker is a must - I know he has been absolutely abysmal for a long time now, and yes there is the West Brom link, but would any of you consider a loan move for Saido Berahino?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ulloa doesn’t even make the match day squad at Leicester, got to be worth a bid with 1 fit striker. Terry should be back around then so no need for a centre half. I think we have a very good settled squad, only place that jumps out is striker because of injuries and then a back up left back. Could just see who becomes available, the way the Snodgrass deal happened.

Bob i agree, new manaver and all that you never know . But i reckon if we stick to same system, with that extra man in midfield, we will beat most teams in this league . We still have a goal threat, but we look so much stronger . Also we have plenty of players who would fit in . Jack, O Hare the Jedi even Landsbury, what we do need is somebody, who could do a job like wood or Bannan, someone to play everything through, somebody to keep us moving forwards Untill we find that nugget, I think the extra midfielder we do us well . Bring on Sunderland Onwards& Upwards Villaforever.

Davis is quality, hold up play, running off the ball, dribbling. However so far his finishing tells me he couldn’t score in a brothel, the way he plays tho that doesn’t matter at the minute, plenty of time for goals to come.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Nov 2017 08:12:54
Chris when Davis gets his scoring boots on he will be one he'll of a player,
He has everything a centre forward needs except scoring the goals to go with his exceptional hold up play,

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Nov 2017 13:26:07
There aren’t many strikers who move up from the youth team and stay in the first team who aren’t scoring atleast a goal every other game. I think that says a lot about what Davis bring to the team, he makes up for the lack of goals with everything else.

For his age the kid is frietening, the goals will come, as well . Youve got to give it Albert, another two goals . From what I can gather, the only complaint is that we missed a hat full of chances . Vertout was another player where the manager thought, it dosent matter that playing at No 10 he had been involved with % 46 of all goals scored. They played him in and out of the team, in any position other than the one he wanted . Then it was a case of, sorry you don't fit in . How many times do not just Villa, but managers consistently play people other than where they are good at . I honestly believe Vertout would have been a brilliant asset for us, if played in his right position . he's gone elsewhere and proved it .

07 Nov 2017 01:53:18
So many players have been played out of position, Scott Sinclair never had a chance. When played in the right place there was no one to pass the ball.

Now he is playing with a smile and bagging goals.
Before the usual snipers tell me that he is playing north of the border, remember he is also playing against some odd European teams.

Like its been said on here already, today was a blip, but loosing terry is the sickener, but turn that frown upside down, next man up, and who better to get the defence firing on all cylinders than john terry coaching them, as the saying goes 'if you get lemons, then make lemonade', its not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog, so let's move on and crack on, you never know, bruce might put lansbury in defence as a stroke of genius! Today was a dissapointment, after the way we played on Wednesday . But that goal within a matter of seconds, was enough to knock the stuffing out of anybody . Then the loss of Terry @ Snodgrass before, half time just didn't help . When Snoddy went off, I couldent understand Hogan at right wing . The main problem today was midfield, they had an extra man all the while Their one forward was dropping back in, that why we couldent get through the middle . They had done their homework on Davis, crowded him out every time, it would have helped him if the service to him had been better . Hogan once again was making run after run, the problem is we haven't got anybody capable of playing him through . i'm sorry to say that, for his good& ours he needs to move on . Funnily enough he needs somebody like Bannon, with quick feet and can read his runs Hutton once again was brilliant, if the others played with his energy& drive we wouldent go far wrong . In one of his interviews Brucie mentioned about a blip, let's hope that this was ours . Time to regroup and put today behind us . let's hope Terry's injury isn't a bad one, my nerves wouldent cope with big Samba every game . On another point, with the run and success we have had over the last few weeks, how could anybody in their right mind, stand there booing . Everybody wants to win every game, but we haven't got a god given right to . These type of games will happen to the best, so get over it . As I said before, time to regroup, put this one behind us and kick on again . Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

Hourihane has one of the best passing ranges in the league, look at his record watch him play. Scott Hogan is a myth, he had half a good season at Brentford.

Yes he makes run after run, but their down blind alleys, runs that you need someone of champions league quality to split the 3 men in between the ball and his run or to pop it into the 3 yards of space that’s enough for him to get a yard on the defender but not enough for the keeper to come and collect. Watch his highlights for Brentford, not even 50% of his goals come from situations like that, he was just rattling around in the box, for a team who people under estimated when he was a player people barely knew anything about.

Now they know him, they know his game and he’s easy to cope with, and he hasn’t got anything else in him other than the yard of pace. He's been played in every different situation possible and he’s never performed, up top on his own, up top with Davis, up top with Kodjia, just off a striker on the right, far right mid, left mid, given the last 20 minutes when players are tired, given to he full 90.

There's no more excuses now, we were duped by a decent half season and rumours that prem clubs wanted him. The gamble failed, its time to take him out back with a shovel and finish it once and for all, I can’t hear that he’s too clever for our team, we don’t play the right way for him or he’s wasted here one more time.

It's not a nice thing to see us being 2-0 down, a positive in my eyes is the frustration snodgrass showed at being subbed! It just shows he cares and wants to be in the pitch to try and help, every cloud has a silver lining and all that.

Credit to Bruce and the boys for last night's performance best for sometime. So we have seen two performances over the last four days, which is to be, tactical inept long ball game from Sunday, or free flowing sharp passing from last night. We have the highest salary bill in the championship, we deserve what was served up last night, unfortunately we have had far more Sunday performances than the latter. So let's judge Bruce after more consistent performances, we obviously have the players so it is the coaching that is questionable, for me the Jury is still out and I hope to be proved wrong, however I think WTW will be proved correct.

You don’t get free flowing sharp passing in the second city derby. Don’t understand how you can be so negative after the recent run of form.

Good post villatrust, you articulate what a lot of us are thinking. There is still an underlying wave of critisism against the Bruce totally unfounded and the negativety still exists even with the run of results we have had. But hey ho mate most of us can see the real deal. Heres hoping we get another win in the bag tomorrow. VILLA FOREVER.

So back in the Top 6, 6 points off the top. With 3 of our next 4 games coming at home we have such a good chance to start racking up the points. Last night we did look the business, albeit against a make rubbish Preston team. We have real competition for places and so many options, 4-4-2, 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 like we saw towards the end of the blues game. Keep this momentum going.

Got to say that is our best 90min performance this season,
Everybody played well some brilliant.
Terry was immense,
Davis was very good again
Whelan his best game for villa,
Hutton outstanding
Onomha very good
Adomah had a quieter game but ok
Elmo very good
Johnston good
Snodgrass had a much better game,
Houlinan was ok but was more defensive than usual
Chester immense

So a very pleasing performance and now let's get another 3 points on Saturday
Up the villa.

Longstang Chelsea supporter who is SO pleased JT is playing well for your great old club.
The guy is pure class and in my opinion the best central defender England has had for years but I’m biased as he will always be a legend to us Chelsea fans.
Good luck for the rest of the season and hope to see you in the Premiership next year.

Well said Tomb, JT is still a magic player and thanks for the good wishes. Thought we played really well every player but against a depleted preston. They had key players out. It still had to be won though and we did that well. In truth we could have bagged another two or three. They had a shout for a penalty, not sure it was though. Now let's see how we do against wednesday come saturday. Onwards and upwards villa forever.

At last a convincing and dominating performance against one of the fancied teams away from home! Villa defence was superb tonight and Davis ran an impressive line. Pressure was on tonight with slipping out of the top six and this group of players all stepped up! Looks really promising in that we can not only keep a clean sheet but also on the break do some damage! Next test bring on the Owls UTV.

Have to say Hutton looks a better l/ back than his usual right back position,
One thing you can't say about him is that works harder than most on pitch,

Have to say villa look so much better with Davis up top,
I prefer him over kodija mainly down to his holdup play and bringing others into game,
Very impressed with him and I just hope he stays with us for years to come,
He looks class.

Just needs to watch his temper was lucky not to walk. Good to see Bruce talk to him when he was subbed. Good man management. Agree with Hutton the Scottish Roberto Carlos now. Everyone played well last night, Whelan settling into his role now and with the defence holding strong onwards and upwards utv.

{Ed033's Note - We tried this before, a number of people said they liked the idea of a live chat but then only 1 person turned up to multiple live chats during Villa games, so there was no chat. i can set it up , but i doubt there will be any chat.

I really rate this kid more than grealish,
But we will see on Saturday.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Nov 2017 18:49:48
Bruce beggars belief sometimes, team his picked should be capable of winning the game comfortably but bench is so defensive. He has an excuse as to why O'hare, grealish aren't on the bench as the played less than 48 hours ago, however if they aren't involved the weekend his losing it.

Davis is playing, O’Hare has played the way you’d expect a youth player breaking through to, Green has played. If the youth game had been a day earlier I’d expect O’Hare to be on the bench, should be there on Saturday.

I can see Villa making a mistake with another good midfield player . Lydon has shown he certainly has the ability, to become a very good future player . The odd opportunity he has had, he has never let us down . His form in the U23 has got better and better, also scoring goals . With the age of some of our senior players, Lydon would be an ideal replacement . From what iv read, his contract is up at the end of the season . Other clubs are lining up, to show their interest in him . I honestly believe a mistake would be made if we let him go Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

With the results last night we must win tonight to keep on there shirt tails,
What makes me mad is Bruce saying davis needs more rest otherwise he will burn himself out?
What is this manager on about!
I played 3 games a week many years ago when I was in my early teens and I loved it,
Was Michel Owen, Rooney, Giggs dropped because They were to young?
Losing form I can understand but Davis and o'hare are a better option than the players in front of them now,
Davis makes a difference with his hold up play and that astute pass to his partner up top.
O'hare is a real busy body with endless energy and has a killer pass and a goal threat,
Even Bruce came out and said as much,
So why are being protected so much,
If you are good enough you are old enough simply!
Yes it's a step up in class but these 2 have shown they are good enough,
Bruce does like his trusted experienced players even though they are not pulling up many tree's,
So Bruce show some adventure and give these young players a chance to put down a marker.

Chris

I was saying that I used to play 3 games a week.
I'm not expecting our young players to do the same just 1 game a week would satisfy me,
Bruce is not a young player type of manager,
He likes the experienced ones most of time,
Sick of his excuses when leaving these players out when they are playing well,
This burn out of young players is totally untrue,
How long do we have to wait before giving them a proper chance?

Agree1 Disagree1

01 Nov 2017 09:45:09
Giving them a proper chance, Davis has played more than Kodjia and Hogan this season.

If we approach the game tonight as we did against the blue noses then I fear we could lose this game,
If we go for it with more intent to win the game I think we will win,
They have defensive worries but they are a decent side with plenty of height,
Last year they beat us easily and we must improve on that display,
So come on brucie take of the shackles and take um to the cleaners,

Agree1 Disagree1

01 Nov 2017 10:33:41
Davis has played more than kodija granted,
Don't forget kodija is getting over a bad injury,
What about o'hare he has played 45 mins total premiership football,
Lyndon has been great in under 23s has he been given a chance even not on the bench,
Hayes could be used more from the bench,
We have some decent young players and some deserve a chance to show what they can do on a bigger stage.

I hope we both go up, and I can live with second place.
My only advice. it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Nothing is won, or lost before Easter.

I wish you good luck. Play some great stuff.
And like with Leicester, it’s always good to see smaller clubs over reaching. Warms the heart.
