tbf i thought houlliers squad managment was good ;the way he rotated the team around giving the youngsters ago and so and so mon never did that and his transfers also good : bent 18 million pure quality i dnt know many villa fans that havnt sed we need a top striker and we got one fairly cheap too. makoun also quite good player in the midfield and walker also good on loan however houllier just didn't get us the results untill the end of the season (in the prem that's too late)!

Believable4 Unbelievable0

I agree I just found that Houllier made the wrong decision in terms of the substitutes like when we needed a goal he decided to bring on pires instead of albrighton or agbonlahor! Still like you said MON would never have bought a player for over 10 million

from all the rumors ive heard and looked into a bit id like to see how realistic this team looks for villa:
GK:camp. the majority of people reckon foster but can anyone really see him coming to villa from blues
rb:walker
cb:dunne
cb:upson
lb:enrique
rm:albrighton
cm:petrov
cm:parker
lm:nzogbia
st:bent
st:ba would prefer someone beter than ba but he can score

Believable2 Unbelievable2

TBH I can't really see us signing enrique or parker because both players are getting intrest from clubs like liverpool and spurs. foster a possiblity but i also think given's a chance. Defo need a better cb than upson. Personally I think villa should go with players like :
hanglehand, samba, cahill or even dann.

31 May 2011 10:46:18
villa fans should be counting their lucky stars that Houllier agreed to manage them. Wanting him out just shows how shallow their footballing knowledge is.

If Rafa joins, again it will be your lucky day, but you'd probably rather Moyes due to inherent racism.

Believable1 Unbelievable8

Wot team do u support then?houllier great manager but he has to go due to health reasons i don't hate him i thought he did well for us and i know if he stayed would bring in great players !rafa aint coming to villa and if he does that's fine with me

Agree0 Disagree0

Lfc of course. Normally I wouldn't post here, but had to vent frustrations due to reading so much hate against Houllier.

From what i've seen he has revolutionised your youth setup in about two weeks making sweeping changes for the better for the future, bought a top striker at a relatively low price (for his goals per season) made much better use of the squad than MON ever did - villa used to lose so many end of season games to fatigue. . and villa fans slated him and chanted for him to be out after 1 month due to him clapping lfc fans at anfield.

You may say I'm a hypocrite due to our treatment of Roy (which was poor at times) but Houllier is twice the manager Hodgson is.

Rant over. .

Agree0 Disagree0

Villa always has gotten tired during the last games of the season it was the same with O'Neill , ive never givein out about houllier , i agree with you on the set up houllier has for the youth squad , and bent has been brillient for villa , the one concern i had was his health and hoped it wouldn't happen to him again as for roy i thought he would go good for liverpool some fans didn't want him and other did

"villa park will be named the nike arena with a 60 million being given to the new manager."

i really cannot see happening while doug ellis is alive, yeah he is not exactly everyones favourite person, but lerner is a respectfull man and gets along with ellis. Its a good call for the future to but this decision would lay down on the fans head and even then i doubt they would wanna change the name

The reason Reo Coker is being allowed to go is because he is being paid £75k per week and they want him off the wage bill. I posted 3 years ago that I sat with a guy on a flight to Spain who claimed he was his agent and I saw papers taht indicated that he was telling the truth about being an agent. Lerner wants the wage bill cut by a minimum 30% before the start of the next season. This will enable Villa to get several rising stars to Villa with the promise of performance related pay. The more you win, the more you get. You don't win, you get basic wage. By offloading the 10 players named and 2 or 3 targets of other clubs will reduce the weekly wage bill by £500k, ( £26mper year). Villa will not be spending £20m+ on anymore players!

Not a rumour just shocked we let go NRC. When he is played in the correct position he is awesome. Everton, or Fulham will get him and he will be worth £10m again within 18months

Believable3 Unbelievable3

I feel the same, he has been great at times over the season. I can tell you the reason we let him go was because he was demanding £80,000 a week wages. As you know our wage bill is sky high and needs to come down in line with % regulations. I can understand villa's position on this and NRC's greed left the club with little choice. So all in all it was a business decision and I think there might be more to come in the next few weeks. It's time to clear the dead wood.

It's a shame downing will not commit his future to villa. Is this the same player who said he would stay if we got relegated a few months ago! He did say, "at the moment" so he may be unhappy on the managerial situation and is waiting to see what changes over the summer. On the other hand it would not suprise me if he puts in a transfer request because as villa fans look how many times we have seen our best players walk after having a good spell with the villa. As Ashley is set to depart, it would be a major blow for us to let downing go and a big step backwards. What message does this send out to the likes of darren bent and any future talent that thinks about joining our club. We need to sign a good manager for 5 years to bring in quality and show potential players we aspire to compete at the highest level. Spurs done it with harry so we should be able to with randys backing.

From a friend of my father (a long time fan), who is a respected steward of the club, Houllier is set to leave, due to obvious reasons, Moyes has been linked, reportedly wanting to bring along, Leyton Beines, Tim Cahill, and possibly Arteta. Young and Downing are set to leave, reports suggest Liverpool with chance of N'gog involved in the transfer.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

That rumour got carried away. Moyes can't just say come on lads we're off to villa! Players belong to efc!

hi rangers fan here what the chances of us getting big stella cuellar back? any info for me ed? {Ed007's Note - Rumour is he wants to go back to Spain. His attitude isn't the best, as you as Rangers fan should know}

id love to know what these "attitude" problems are??

-he left rangers for villa, because villa met his release fee. . .so there was no demanding of a transfer

- he was played our of position for 80% of his villa career but never complained

- He has been on the bench most of the season watching poor performing centrehalves infront of him (dunne and collins, im looking at you) and still hasnt grumbled

- he has good interaction with the fans via twitter and facebook

- the couple of times i have met him, he has been an absolute gentleman and signed autographs and got into pictures with little ones and was always friendly

so if he does leave, i will be hugely saddened but will completely understand as he needs to for the sake of his career. . . but poor attitude. . give me a break! !

Believable5 Unbelievable0

Cueller's stated that his happy at villa, he loves the fans and loves the birmingham people, no chance of a move + his just had knee op and with villa having best rehab facilities hes going to stay there

No way is it 100% certain houllier will still be in charge next season. I don't even think the owner has decided yet. Alot depends on the medical reports that are due back soon. If houlliers problems are a risk do you really think the owner will take any chances of him dying whilst in charge. . No! {Ed007's Note - The managers health and well being has to be the top priority}

Gary mac said after the liverpool game there are too be alot of changes in the summer this is what he means :-

Outs :- Friedel, Warnock, Collins, Dunne, Cuellar, Reo-coker, Petrov, Pires, Agbonlahor, Carew, Heskey. Askley Young and Downing will obviously be chased but they don't want to lose them, the other i believe will either be released or on the transfer market. Im not going too sit hear and lie too you all and say ive heard it from a realiable source because i havnt its just a guess :-)

I always like to see that the LFC fans enjoy other clubs sites. Why do they value there rubbish as of greater value than other clubs top players. Who is the plank that thinks LFC will get Young for £7m. They got £50m for a player that has barely touched the ball since he left, vastly overpriced but wanted and that is why Young will fetch upwards of £20m as he is wanted by LFC to put the ball on Carols head, sorry that's a girls name, or he may prove to be an expensive £35m misfit.

Friedel, Beye, Dunne, Cuellar, Warnock, Ireland, Petrov, Pires, Makoun Carew, Heskey, and Young.
Looks like a team bound for the championship. Apart from one it seems a good job that they will be on their way during the holidays. Not Much money coming in as some will be free and others about £3.50p. I wish Ash all the very best at United and thank him for the £25m that will enable Rafa to bring in three or four new faces. Some others will be offered to other clubs who are looking at underperformers. Reo Coker will probably be offered in part ex for Scott Parker. Carlton Cole will not be arriving at VP! ! I remember him when he was lauded as one to watch for the future. All he did was watch. The season ended with us in 9th place and who would have thought that some weeks ago. Blues went where they are best suited, but that won't matter to the as they beat us and that is all they wanted. Next year must be better than this year or Villa may well join Blues unless they go down again. what a lovely thought to carry through the summer.

Some other things you might not know:
We signed Darren Bent
Warnocks on his bike
We will need new winger in to replace young
We will need new right back if can't keep walker
We need new keeper
Richard dunnes a cart horse so we need to replace him

Villa need to get rid of McAllister and bring in David Moyes so then we can start signing players like Given or Foster. Also, Villa should sign up kyle from spurs and bring in Samba and Hanglehand. Jose Enrique (Newcastle) would be a bonus if not Luke Young or Warnock to play LB. We also need to sign a player who will fight alongside Coker. Someone like Parker or Adam. Plus when Young goes we will get funds for a winger like Jarvis or Park Ji Sung. Personally, I want to keep Downing as he's had a fantastic season at villa.

Aston Villa caretaker boss Gary McAllister has revealed that the club have started discussions with Stewart Downing in a bid to convince the winger to sign a new contract.

The former Middlesbrough star is understood to be a top summer target of Liverpool, but he still has two years remaining of the deal he signed when moving from The Riverside for £12million during the summer of 2009.

McAllister, who is in charge in the absence of Gerard Houllier, is aware of the need to ensure Downingremains at the club on a long-term basis, particularly with doubts hanging over the future of reported Manchester United target Ashley Young.

The Scot said: "Stewart has got two years left and we are getting into that area where it's coming into our vision.

"It's in progress at the moment. We are starting to make contact with his agent.

"We have to keep good players here."

McAllister admits he would vote for Downing as Villa's player of the year and believes he is capable of becoming an England regular.

The former Middlesbrough player impressed during the friendly international against Ghana at Wembley in March.

McAllister said: "Another wee target for Stewart is that he has always been in and around that England squad.

"The question is can he go and become a part of the team? I feel he has enough in his locker to do that."

As the season crawls to a close now there is an inevitability of change in the air at Villa Park. This week, Randy Lerner s right hand man, General Charles Krulak, made another contribution to one of the many Villa blogs claiming that the club and board know what has to be done in the summer to ensure that we don t endure another season like this.

What this means for the Houllier regime is unsure but what it implies will surely leave him fearing for his job. However, Houllier s transfer targets have suggested that he is aiming high (recently losing out to Real Madrid for Dortmund defender Nurin Sahin) and in doing so he has raised the expectations of fans.

I for one would be sad to see Houllier leave as recent results have suggested that the players are finally warming to his football philosophy but his recent heart problems may prove that the job is too much for him.

Assistant manager Gary McAllister has said that his recovery is going well and that he is in high spirits claiming that he fully intends to return, showing that the anxieties that plagued his years at Liverpool is not there.

It may have been a stop-start first season for the Frenchman but it s clear that he needs a full season to mould his own team with his own players and only then if he fails will fans be justified in chanting Houllier out.

If he doesn t return though then I wish him a happy retirement and I will admit that I have lay awake at night wondering what Rafa Benitez or David Moyes would do with the team if they had the chance (both of whom have been linked with taking over in the off season.)

Either way, one thing you can be sure of is that there will be some drastic changes before next season kicks off.
