Here is the resault for saturday Villa 2 vs 0 Norwich.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

30 Mar 2017 20:27:00
Norwich, QPR and Reading all at home and Burton away.
Could we dream of 4 wins? 12 pts?
10 pts would be amazing and the lift for the players could give them confidence.
Let us get behind them. It maybe too late for this year but we could put the frighteners onto the rest of the div.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would we want to go up this season?
We need to treat the last 8 games as an extended pre season and get everyone fully fit and ready to fight from the first game next time around.
If we play this right we could be unbeaten next season with the best defence and the most creative midfield in the country with two of the hottest strikers in the British isles (If Jimmy Danger starts passing)

It is not beyond the realms of possibility that we go on a good cup run and get more than one Wembley day out of 2018. let's face it the Liverpool game was probably the best feeling since Blues 5-1 and the Arsenal final was a great day apart from 90 minutes where we watched 11 players on the pitch v 11 gnomes fishing for a plastic koi that's already stuck on their poles.

Lets do what Bruce says and get in one or two good players that will help the squad, not whole sale changes as he did in January, but he has learned and admitted that that was the wrong thing to do.

I would have downing back if that would add something but if it doesn't let's blood some of the young and hungry kids that want to play for the shirt and would die for the Lion.
Just look at the youngsters brawl against West Ham that's passion.

Up the Villa
Lets smash the canneries tomorrow.

See you in the Tavern before for a pint.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Mar 2017 13:00:01
Please not downing - too old and not physically strong enough for the championship - can't afford passengers.

You'd have Downing back?
Don't we already have a kit man?

I see that FIFA has now launched a formal investigation against Neil Taylor's tackle on Seamus Coleman. If they choose punitive action, does anyone know if they could suspend him from Championship matches or would it just be from World Cup qualifiers etc?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Mar 2017 14:55:38
I don't know about any suspension, but will his head be right?

Seems to have knocked him about a bit?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Mar 2017 10:30:04
I don't believe it affects the championship just world cup games. let's just hope that referee, s don't go out of their way to penalise every tackle that he makes. The situation is such that it could spill over in this way.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Mar 2017 11:25:14
As it now seems to be that Villa haver found a formation that suits with the "Jedi" in the holding/ blocking role in front of the back four, would it not be wise (as he will be going back into the back four himself sooner rather than later, ) to either get someone in or train one of our own to fulfil that roll as it's proved so vital for us

If so, any suggestions?

I still think Tshibola could do the job to be honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Mar 2017 14:39:23
Tshibola looked the part, big strong and quick but seems like there's something going on with him, couldn't get a game under Bruce, gone to Forrest and can't get a game there. Jedinak looked good in the back 4 against Sheff Wednesday but got caught out a few times against Wigan.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Mar 2017 20:55:17
Tshibola still thinks football owes him a living, physically he's an asset in the championship, in his head, that's where he let's himself down, whether inhaling balloon gas or socializing at dubious venues, as fergie used to say, the boy needs a rocket up his jumper!

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Mar 2017 11:57:37
Ok we have a lamppost and a statue of William McGregor and there are only so many monuments to great villans you can have. Just for fun who would top 3 be? Mine would be Ron Saunders, Billy Walker and am struggling with the 3rd between Eric Houghton or George Ramsey! Can't have Deafly Doug because rightly or wrongly he has a stand already!

Nick B6 Kieth and Mushy live in a house within the grounds, it was about where the shop is now. Good times. Kieth played a few times for the Villa old stars, a few times I think.

Have the book 100yrs of Villa Park with tales of players stopping in the Holte Hotel, often seen in local witton cafe or riding the bus or tram to villa park with supporters. In another book it had a 1930s villa and England international retiring and running a chippy in Kingstanding! Somehow can't see the likes of Ashley Young or Gareth Barry serving up cod and chips when they hang up their boots. Very different times! UTV.

29 Mar 2017 08:52:55
Stan Lynn had a sweet shop in Perry Barr.
Harry Parks had two sports shops.
Peter Aldis worked for Cadbury.
I think Jimmy Dug dale had a big newsagents in Brierley Hill.

Quite a few players from the 50s owned shops selling grocery items.
As a delivery driver in the 60s I met many of the players who had outside interests from all of the local teams.
None of them were arrogant, just ordinary guys that were lucky enough to play football and get paid.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Mar 2017 14:20:00
Seeing the posts about meeting old players bought back a few memories. When I was about 15-16, one of my mates Kieth was the son of Mushy Callahan. We used to knock about with some of the youth -reserve players, among these where Charlie Aitken, Bobby Park and a kid called George Graham . George was always very aloof, as if he new he was destined for higher things He was right he did go on to do well, but he was still a miserable bugger . Onwards and Upwards Villaforever.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

26 Mar 2017 19:38:52
Mush Callahan what a great villa legend! After playing I think he became groundsman or caretaker? As hard as nails and think he broke a leg in a match and the following week broke another players leg! Days when you could tackle.

Nice piece about the best manager Imo that we have ever had, Mr Saunders, in the daily mail. Good read.
Much of the article is what we are aware of but nice to see the man being recognised.

Should we push for some recognition to the man that raised us from the doldrums to champions of Europe?

Neil Taylor with one of the worst tackles I've ever seen for Wales, snapped Colemans leg clean through. TV weren't allowed to show replays of it, horrific.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

24 Mar 2017 23:47:38
Well Neil Taylor said he wanted to play as a striker, and judging by the way he took out Coleman he certainly tackles like one. Always horrible to see injuries like that, get well soon Seamus!

I had a chat with blue nose, Pat Van Den Hauwe while having a pee in Faces nightclub in 1979.
He came over as very arrogant, maybe because I told him I had claret and blue running through my veins.
I just kept him talking while I pissed on his shoes, made my night, pulled as well.

Was in a club in Leicestershire and being the only villa fans my dad and me played with the Leicester rejects!

Was great, and both where great fun. until jj got stuck against a tree, and kicked his ball out when he thought no one was looking!
Didn't like me calling him a cheat, and both left as soon as we finished on the 18th!

Nigel reo coker was mates with a chef i worked with in another pub in bromsgrove and came in for rabbit! Nice. Talking of signing things! I signed a serviette with Forest logo when visited the city ground for villa away! I signed it as Stan Collymore to a mouthy forest work colleague as a joke. Didn't realise till years later we forgot to tell him it was a fake, he had only framed it and had it on the wall in his lounge for years, pride and place! Lost touch with him so probably still there!

Depends in what context.
Biggest waste of money. bosko balaban
Biggest insult. alpay
Biggest let down. collymore

However. worf, gabby, Richards and okore all ran close

(Eric djemba-djemba was dog siht, but was way before we got him. was no big surprise! )

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2017 09:56:34
Wasn't he a Big Ron signing mate? He was so quick, i remember him. shame he didn't work out. Does anybody remember Fernando Nelson? he was a right back for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2017 12:08:54
I think he was Walkthewalk. He was the new "Pele" . Even according to Pele.
I remember a game when little was in charge and the crowd were chanting "we want Lamptey on". Little duly obliged and he ran around a bit and fell over.
I remember Nelson. He had a bouffant hairdo and wasn't very good. He was from Portugal as I recall. He replaced Gary Charles so I think a lot of us gave him the benefit of the doubt.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Mar 2017 15:34:41
I thought okore was half decent as long as he had someone next to him who just constantly told him what to do.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2017 16:50:29
I thought he was too, until he refused to wear the shirt. Unforgivable.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2017 17:38:18
The guy from Ghana i think was called Nii Lamptey he played 10 games on loan for seasons 94-95.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2017 19:03:41
Lamptey! Yes of course! So excited with the prospect but such a disappointment! Fernandez Nelson wasn't terrible just forgettable. Like the idea of context with Ivo Stars being biggest waste of money getting injured in pre season never to play again or ever in a competitive game!

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2017 19:08:31
Did you read his interview the other day flackie? I did too at the time think he was a disgrace but he seems to have a completely different version of events, and in all honesty I'd probably trust his word over Eric Blacks, especially after the telegraph catching him out.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2017 21:45:37
I haven't read it mate.
But the fact remains. black was in charge, and told him he was a sub. he refused to be on bench.
I actually think like he did that he should of played.
However that's irrelevant, his manager dropped him and he threw his toys out.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2017 23:36:35
See that's what he disagreed with, he claims black never offered him a space on the bench, they fell out over him wanting a place somewhere in the squad and black not thinking he was good enough, so black put him in the U23's so he asked to leave. I suppose it will always be his word against his, but it was annoying seeing a kid with quite a lot of talent and the potential to go further leave, would be decent now.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Mar 2017 19:21:10
Some of you must remember Ivo Stas. He played against us in a European game and scored an own goal, on the strength of this we signed him. He was constantly injured and never made the first team, I saw him in a youth match in Shrewsbury where he went off injured after a few minutes.

He is the answer to the trivia question;
"Which Villa player scored for the Villa but never played for the Villa"

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Mar 2017 11:59:52
2 questions; would you buy sam johnstone? Also would anybody sell kodjia if a good offer came in?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

20 Mar 2017 12:27:21
Keep Johnstone but still get a goal keeper in transfer window. Keep Kodjia his goals will get us into premiership.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Mar 2017 16:26:04
I only asked because they're saying that kodjia I can't play in a two people saying his to greedy. Thought path is 2 strikers would score more goals than just the 1 from few fans. Also garry gardner he is absolutely rubbish he has been given more than enough time to shine and his performances are poor. Jedinak is a midfielder not a cbk in my view as well. UTV.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Mar 2017 17:50:17
Sell him if someone's offering like 30/ 35 mil but if not he's worth keeping for the goals. Gary's like jack somegames decent enough to hold down a place then the next he just looks sloppy, best way to describe it, passes off target or too short just stupid things. Jedinak wasn't the best vs Wigan probably getting used to being a centre half, Bogle looked decent for them, wouldn't mind us trying to get him for 3/ 4 mil in the summer once Mccormacks gone.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Mar 2017 09:14:09
agreed johnstone is still looking dodgy at times and with a decent experienced keeper working with him in a few years think he could be a top keeper, if anyone comes in with an offer 10mill more than what we paid for kodja take it as think yes he's a great goal scorer but think we will have a case of delph on our hands again where we end up hating him because he wants out and will just turn.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Mar 2017 11:11:35
Johnstone doesn't really come on to it, loan expires end of the season, although he looked far from dodgy Saturday, kept us in the game and won man of the match. Take anything over 10mil for Kodjia? What makes you think he don't want to be here? Same was said about Benteke after his first season here, still stayed for 2 more seasons scored consistently and we got 32 mil for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Mar 2017 18:55:43
I'd go for an experienced keeper. Begovic ideally
If we could keep Johnstone, on balance, I probably would. In a year to 18 months, with a good pro to learn from he could be decent. If we can't keep him we need to get 2 keepers as Bunn is not good enough for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2017 09:28:50
Bunn goes from card board cut out to average so I don't think he'll ever be good enough to push for number 1. Begovic would be the choice in a ideal world, Vorm would be decent as well. If Sunderland come down I'd love us to go for Pickford, if and it's a big if, we could get him, that would sort what's become a problem position out for the next 5/10 years.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Mar 2017 12:24:39
i said 10 mill more than what we paid, so if we get an offer of around 25 take it, as won't get that again for him,

If only we could maintain this form till end of season! If only?

Home Canaries in free fall villa win 3 points
Home QPR tough but villa scape win 3pts
Away Burton a must win 3pts
Home Reading very hard fought draw 1pt
Away Fulham very lucky hard draw 1pt
Home Small Heath must win but tough 3pts
Away Blackburn another away win 3pts
Home Brighton already promoted villa 3pts

This would be 20 points giving us 78points and last season Ipswich were 7th with 69 points with Sheffield Wed 6th with 74pts!

Love being a deluded Villan with a mathematical what if lol!

Its great to see the lads stringing the wins together now and next season I think we'll be genuine contenders to win the league outright.
I think as far as incomings go i'd like to see 4 incomings being a gk, centre half, winger and a young striker.
Outgoings there's still a lot to do and move on such as gabby, Richards, elphick, bunn, Gil, mcormack etc.

Id keep veretout and Sanchez.

Grealish I'm on the fence with and would rather loan him out to prove he is the real deal.

What a great result yesterday, the first away win in a long time. Shows the hard work everyone has put in is starting to show results now

That's what's got me worried. There are comments like "we might sneak a play off place" but, are Villa ready for a return to the Premiership?

There would be nothing worse than to get back to the premiership and get smashed as we did in 15/ 16

During "Horrid" January, we had all accepted that we would consolidate the remainder of this season and in pre-season, and then hit the season 17/ 18 running and truly show that Villa is a team to be reckoned with

Don't get me wrong, I am the first to say that Villa should be playing "the big boys", but honestly, as yet, are Villa really ready because to "bounce" would be disastrous!

Would it not be wise to carry on thinking that there is another Championship season ahead so that when Villa go back, they go back with a bang!

Just a thought?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's a a moot point anyway as there is no prospect of us going up
That said, I would take it if there were. Look at the investment Xia has made to a Championship club. I'm sure we'll find the necessary re-enforcements on making our return to the Prem.

19 Mar 2017 16:21:42
Staying in this league another season will do us the world of good, the players need a season together minimum so their a team, not just a squad of players. If we went up as mendax said I can see Xia spending 20mil plus on each player coming in if Bruce wanted them, so don't think we'd be embarrassed again. However going up while mathematically possible is highly improbably and the players don't need another 5/ 6 lads coming in who they've never played with before. Just to point out we beat Rotherham away 2 weeks ago mate.

Another win and another clean sheet . Great to see Hogan come on and straight away, get involved and get his goal . Wigan today proved one thing for us, we have to play Jedinac in midfield . Gardener just not at same level, some of his passes sounded a bit suspect as well. When a team like Wigan, can cause us trouble in midfield, it shows something is wrong . But as I said,3 points and clean sheet, brilliant . Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

Didn't cause us trouble in midfield, long ball into Bogle who used his body well caused us trouble. Gardner and Jedinak both had two very suspect moments but 3 points all that matters!

18 Mar 2017 20:38:43
chris, they caused us problems mate, fact.
They had the possession, they had double the attempts, and double the shots on target.
It was a great result for us and other results went our way, I am happy as larry but come on.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Mar 2017 21:34:17
All that matters is 3 points so what they had more possession and more shots? We won it's all about putting the ball in the back of the net I'd rather win ugly than lose playing Brazil football.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Mar 2017 22:21:58
I agree with you about the three points daz, and Who said anything about Brazilian football, I am trying to make a point to another poster who said they didn’t cause us any problems in midfield, All I am doing is agreeing with Davedean, they did cause us problems, and so they should its eleven v eleven after all.
Don’t come that tosh about playing ugly, we all want good football and a winning team, if you don’t mind ugly you have a problem.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Mar 2017 08:07:17
I want good football and a winning team but I'm afraid it's not going to happen in this league you have to scrap and fight for every point so if that means winning ugly then so be it I'd rather be in the premier league playing Brazilian football and winning games than this league, So if a team has more possession and shots so be it as long as we have a W by our name at the end of 90 mins and if that's a load of tosh well I would grow a beard kidda.

What a joke of a board running their club, why don't they put on free coaches for games like Newcastle away. Although they've probably been told they have to do it, get as many fans in a contained environment as possible, then they can drop them off right by the away end with all the old bill ready, less problems then.

With our season coming to an end, fighting for top half. Where do we need to strengthen in the summer? Injuries are ridiculous at the moment but the squad is showing the quality it has. Baring in mind McCormack, Tshibola, Veretout and Gil will all be back of loan, who do you sell and who / where do we need reinforcements?

Bree, De Laet, Hutton? )
We need an arse kicker in the back line to keep the team going.
Too many nice guys.
Also he could hand out reminders to the opposition.
GK yes.

Keep Tish, Gil and get money for Vertout as he will want away.
Sanchez and McCormack go for money, same for Gollini.
Big question is will Kodija stay?

The better he performs for us the more he gets the prem bandits looking. Think Everton, Hammers, Baggies Stoke et Al.
SB will have to do the business to convince him to stay when the sniffing starts.
How about Ben coming ba ck?

Agree1 Disagree1

14 Mar 2017 21:04:38
Right back is an area where we have more than enough cover so I don't quite see where you're going with that. Had you forgot De Laet? (easily done to be fair)
I'd like a really strong, dominant centre-half; like Samba in his prime (but probably not Samba today)
An experience goalkeeper is a must. Asmir Begovic would be my first choice. Surely he is bored with life at Chelsea now?
A left winger with real pace and good delivery would make a massive difference to us. There was talk of us going for Gradel from Bournemouth in the last transfer window and I would be happy with that. If I was being greedy, I guess another forward wouldn't go amiss (although I think Gradel can play up top as well)
I'd also keep Tshibola. He looks like a Bruce type player to me. With a full pre-season in a better side I think we could see the best of him
The exits are going to be just as important.
Gabby, for the love Jesus please get rid
The Sweaty midget who is scared of heights has to go, clearly
Bunn, not good enough for me
Richards, been a disaster
Most controversially, Grealish, with a heavy heart and only if we got good money for him. The kid's an idiot. I know it comes with the territory at his age but if he's too stupid to see what he is putting in jeopardy we should cash in if we can.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Mar 2017 23:59:06
Think the right back positions more than covered mate. I'd probably keep Gil and Veretout, Veretout could force his way into the first 11 I reckon and Gil although too lightweight would be a brilliant option off the bench. Sanchez is already gone mate, think his contracts up.

Hopefully keep Kodjia but if he did go it would be 30+ million I think in today's market and considering his contract. Big Ben would be a dream to come back, if palace got relegated I could see it as every week I see a new picture of him arguing with team mates because they just don't deliver the ball and such, however there would be so many prem and foreign clubs interested in him.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Mar 2017 00:24:51
I see the argument for a centre back a lot, unless we're spending big money would they get into the squad if we play with a centre back pairing? Baker and Chester with Jedinak in front of them haven't lost a game yet. Goalkeeper is a no brainer and Begovic is a brilliant call if we could tempt him, would be loads of clubs after him. I'd probably want a right mid more than a left, Green looks quality and Bjarnson is a good option there.

However after adomah on the right we have no one, unless we could get someone like forrestieri or gradel like you mention I'd rather see a right sided winger than left, although most of them play both sides these days. If the midget hasn't sorted out his attitude and weight then we definitely need to sell and get someone in, Abraham on loan, nahki wells with McCormack and cash, just don't want to see us over spending as we did last summer.

Big call re Grealish, can see your point, needs to get himself healed and prove himself before the end of the season. Has proved to be childish and stupid a couple of times this season, the hotel incident and forest away, however I've been reading this week about how he's been doing double sessions with Calderwood and working on end products, studying his game and improving, hopefully see some improvement soon or else it would be a case of getting the most cash while we can, although I do think he is one the best options we can hope for off the bench in this league,

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Mar 2017 09:50:10
Agree with Mendax, seems grealish and mcshortfarce used to socialize, so it seems the boy is keeping the wrong type of company, so he needs to be frizbeed off double-quick lively, Tishbola has been showing his maturity inhaling balloon gas, hence why bruce biffed him off, and his attitude is a bit non-humble.

to coin a phrase, bin amavi, he'll never be the same after the injury, ask yourself how many crunching tackles he's gone for (but i hope he proves me wrong! ), i'd like us to go for ollie watkins again, mentioned us going for him then but exeter rebuffed us, definitely go for him this summer, i hope we go for sean cummings of millwall, great defender, no fear and athletic too, also i'd try and nab shane ferguson from millwall as well, quality midfielder.

i've heard we're after 1 or 2 others as well, but leeds seem to get wind of it somehow?, almost every time, i was hoping we were going to nab karacan after his release from turkish football but bolton hooked him first, and i reckon samba will sign too, elphick will most likely leave, shame but that's showbiz!

After the first few minuets, I thought we where going to be in trouble . When Brucie switched Jedinac to center half, I thought we would miss him in midfield. But what a difference, Jedinac was immense. The big change was Hutton, he seemed to drive us forward every opportunity he got.

Playing Albert off Codjia also put more pressure on Wednesday. Another game where we could of made it an easier win, if we had taken all or chances. Overall a great team performance, we wouldent have put, team and performance together a few weeks ago.

Also a shout out to Johnson, much improved and another clean sheet . When you think what Brucie has had to put up with lately, with new players and injuries . You have to give to him, the way he has pulled us round . Onwards and Upwards Villa forever.

Brilliant display, Bruce gets called a dinosaur but his decision to bring on Hutton switch to a 442 when baker got injured showed his the exact opposite. Saw that we had the confidence we were playing the much better so sacrificed the defensive midfielder to go more attacking, play adomah behind Kodjia which gave him the man near him we needed and arguably won us the game.

Still didn't take half the chances we created (Hourihane and Hutton) but was defensively solid against a forward line that was both physical and dynamic.

Keeper deserves huge credit, wasn't the best when he came in to say the least but his got some confidence and in his save in the first half was world class, kept us at 0-0. Hourihane brilliant going forward, Gardner very good game, the left side (Amavi and Taylor) were solid and the big man up top, the right balance of selfish and team player, on a day like today he will punish every team in the championship.

Hopefully we can get some lads back soon just to help with the bench, and fingers crossed Lansbury is alright. Showed today we will mix it with the big boys and next season we will be right up there.

So Sheffield Wednesday, another team like Huddersfield who took advantage of one of Gollini's early teething mistakes. Hope we've got some of the 8 first teamers back from injury! Just when the squad was getting settled, this is not what we needed. However take our chances and show everyone that next season we will be coming for the title. Only 3 can go up, so along with the 3 that come down and then the 3 that don't win the play offs, we need to show them now that we aren't going to be a push over again!

There's no doubt we looked a much better team last night - earlier in the season we would probably have taken a real kicking. However, we still need to be sharper with the finishing. Just one shot on target for the whole 90 minutes tells the story - if you can't hit the target you ain't going to hit the back of the net.

One off the bar and one off the post for Lansbury, and Hourihane blasting over from 6 yards. However, we did stop them, playing in the middle of the park and forced them to go long, plus we weren't so leaky at the back. Promising signs, just better finishing required.

Two weeks ago we would of gone into this game, without any thoughts of coming away with anything . we have played one of the top teams and given them a good game and perhaps with a bit more luck could of won it . This shows how Brucie and staff are going in the right direction, With the injuries we have had over the last couple of weeks, this puts tonight's result even more into perspective . Huddersfield have been ripping, teams apart, we didn't allow them to do it . Listening to the game tonight, it appears they swamped Kodjia, every time he got anywhere he looked dangerous, We have a problem putting our chances away, but it would be more worrying if we weren't making any . I don't know what world some of our supporters come from, but saw one idiot complaining about the lack of choice on the bench Muppet . So keep doing what your doing Brucie, get some of our injured back and I think we are on the right road . Onwards&Upwards Villa forever.

Have to start taking chances, much the better team tonight but for the chances made no matter how easy we just couldn't finish them. As usual our Achilles heel kicks in, concentration, not alert quick enough on a corner, they manage to put it to the edge of the box and bang 1-0 down despite our dominance. 8 first team regulars out, playing away at 3rd in the league and lose narrowly, definitely need to improve in some areas but so many positive signs compared to 4/5 games ago.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

07 Mar 2017 23:16:27
Jonathan kodjia - loves a goal or two, if its a screamer even better, just a shame he got owned tonight by michael hefele; if he was that good he would have busted a gut to show us he's the main man and to trust in him, well he's fallen short yet again tonight, this is his level, that's what i'm seeing, when power doesn't work, what should you do, clearly he hasn't got a scooby doo, and that's why i'd go for berbatov or keane.

even if they only play half an hour each game, they think out of the box and can do something different, yes hourihane missed a sitter, and lansbury tested the woodwork, but really, we need cunning and craftiness in our locker too, on the bright side, they never really troubled us, seems we need to buy lady luck another drink for good luck! all in all loads of positives, but we do need another experienced striker, why not look into the free agents available-nothing to lose, all to gain.
UTV!

Agree0 Disagree3

08 Mar 2017 09:41:09
Talking out your back side, Kodjia had four men around him every time he got it and did well to hold it up and help create those chances, and you think two washed up strikers looking for a pay day will do better? No logic in it, if they was any good someone would have taken them by now.

Keane was on the bench 5/6 years ago when he came to us and Berbatov was awful 4/5 years ago in the championship with Fulham. It's like you want to go backwards, signing washed up players like Kieran Richardson. Learn from our mistakes of the past and move forward, very good performance last night considering our situation.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Mar 2017 18:36:03
Why go for Berbatov and Keane, or any over the hill striker for that matter?
We are not going to be relegated and we are not going to reach the playoffs
So, we have the perfect opportunity too let all our new players bed in and see what we need as a priority for next year. If we are short up front we can play one of the kids.
Berbatov had lost his mojo years ago. He won't have got it back now.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Mar 2017 21:36:15
Fair enough chaps, i won't bore you all with why because i've done that before, but if kodija is to improve even more with timing of his runs and when wait for second faze when an attack breaks down, an experienced striker i think would help influence him and teach him more than letting a couple of seasons' football experience ingrain his brain, as for washed up, you don't always win a game with power and pace, being able to unlock a defence and playing a ball at the right time i think is just as important, so if i had the chance to sign keane or berbatov and knew i could put them on for the last half an hour or so and they played at full tilt (pay as you go contract), then i think its worth the punt, even though its just me, myself and i in agreement here!

So after Saturdays win and three more points, what do you reckon to tomorrow's clash with huddersfield? I personally think it's going to be a very difficult game. we picked up more injuries again Saturday. let's face it they are a good side, it would be a good scalp to take.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Mar 2017 13:00:54
Brilliant performance yesterday, the injuries and maybe not being as clinical as we can be will be our only negatives to take from the game. We all know play offs are gone so finishing strongly is our priority to carry it into next year, and it looks as though we are doing that.

The whole squad and club are looking very helpful going into next season, a goalkeeper, centre back and right midfielder will probably be needed in the summer but other than that the squad is settled.

Two quality left backs competing and pushing each other, centre back paring that look like one of the best in the league, Hutton playing out his skin and De Laet to come back.

Midfield 3 that seem to be finding a way to work together, Jedinak the bloke we've missed for the last 5 years not just the last 5 games, Hourihane in and around the box further forward and Lansbury getting us moving.

left side that green is making his own but with Bjarnson to push him further, two quality strikers and Mccormack to come back (if his sold we'd need another for back up) and Adomah on the right who is quality but probably needs someone who can replace him incase of injury etc.

Don't want to jinx things, but with the most successful championship manager and this squad, things really are looking up for next season. Huddersfield robbed a point against us earlier in the season so let's go and get what we deserve!

3 wins on the trot, brilliant . We are starting to look more like a team . The only thing that drives me mad, is not being able to get coverage of the games . Been using AVTV, but they are so frustrating . They keep losing the coverage from the supplier, lost the last 20 mins today.

Watched ch 5 tonight showed the two goals, but nothing else . we have to get back up, at least you where always able to find someone streaming it in the premier . Dr T want to build our fan base world wide . surely AVTV should be the perfect way . If we struggle to get it here, the rest of the world got no chance.

So come on Dr T sort it out. Otherwise great to see the improvement. Onwards and Upwards Villaforever.

Re: Bacunu;

for what it's worth, we should take a leaf out of the book of the great Brian Clough; if a referee gives a decision against you, even though its blatantly wrong, keep your mouth shout, keep it zipped and walk away. show the ref the courtesy he deserves and just let it go, and when you get back in after the game, eff and blind as much as you want. that keeps the team at full strength, shows the kids the right way to behave, and shows a bit of class, which is what we should be all about.

Jack in a number 10shirt he likes to go at players, the ones he don't get passed usually only have a foul as an answer. think it may be time to give him a game he always puts a shift in. reckon three on the bounce today. COME ON YOU VILLA.

John Terry: Found Guilty of Racism 4 game ban
Bacuna: stood in front of an official with his chest barging the blokes shoulder - 6 game ban.
What a disgrace.

The 3 match was enough, if not there has to be consistency and a 4 match the same at the bloke from Blackburn. Don't understand how you can be happy with our lads getting punished worse for doing less that another? Especially when the two incidents we're a week after each other.

Walkthewalk, I'm not slaughtering anyone. I'm stating an opinion which, as it happens, many seem to agree with
Bacuna is not a "boy" he's a grown man. He needs to act like one
As fans, we shouldn't act like those awful parents who defend anything there little darlings do, no matter how atrocious.
I hear complaints on here all the time about players been treated like pampered prima donnas. Yet the minute one of ours gets a bit of "tough love" you fall over yourself to protect him.
Bacuna was wrong and so are you. The difference is, Bacuna probably knows it.

Agree1 Disagree3

03 Mar 2017 19:47:26
Have heard debate on radio this morning! Treatment of football officials is a disgrace. I have no problem with Bacuna barging or pushing opposition but this was an official,! In ice hockey they slaughter each other, in rugby they brawl as they do in American football. But they show 100 times more respect to their officials. How can we attract youngsters to take up refereeing if we tolerate this abuse?! I think we should sin bin for disrespect and as for 6 matches he was lucky. Forget this is a working class game that is a disrespect to working class respectful hard working people. UTV.

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Mar 2017 19:53:59
He deserves to be punished but come on πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. it wasn't assault for one, and there hasn't to be consistency, what he did wasn't half as bad as the other incident but it got a heavier punishment? Makes no sense.

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Mar 2017 20:25:33
Bacuna was wrong and deserved to be punished, just can't see why he gets a worse punishment for doing less?

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2017 19:47:03
Yes he was a bit naughty but the Blackburn lad done the same thing and got a much less ban. I am not saying bacuna, didn't do wrong I am saying the bans was harsh and let's not criticise somebody who was fighting for our cause Bacuna was right the decision was wrong so why should the linesman get away scot free? Bacuna is trying to turn his Aston Villa career around he was fighting for something he thought was right don't tell me you haven't ever done the same?

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2017 19:48:09
Just something to throw into the mix, In the prem Villa had the worst cards record last year 81 believe it or not, we lead the pack again this year, we had 20 yellow cards inour first five games.
That needs to be addressed, bookings and players being sent off cost the team dearly, we struggle to win with 11 players what chance with 10.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2017 20:50:36
I don't understand your point Dave? Bacuna deserved to be punished but it should be in line with what's dished out around the rest of the clubs. Also however the FA charging bacuna more for this than someone found guilty of Racism is an absolute disgrace, seems racism is still prominent in the game and the FA don't see it as much an offence as getting in an officials face.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2017 22:27:14
My point is we have a very poor disciplinary record and it needs addressing, it`s not a healthy statistic to be labelled with.
10 yellows = 2 games, 15 yellows = 3 games, that is my point.

Also it`s not the first time Bacuna has lost the plot is it.
His ban is what it is, he committed the crime, he does the time.
There will always be inconsistency in dishing out penalties, it happens in civil law as well, that’s life.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2017 22:54:07
I have to say, I'm really amazed this topic has generated so much debate.
It really is crucial that officials are allowed to govern games free from intimidation (because that's what it was) from players.
Bacuna was always going to get more than a 3 match batch for that reason. So, effectively we are arguing over the difference between 4 and 6 games, which is tantamount to 2 bald men arguing over a comb.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2017 23:43:54
I get what some of you are saying regarding different people getting different treatment for similar offenses but I'm with Mendax. Bacuna deserved additional punishment over the standard 3 matches and I predicted he would get it after it happened. Even if its wrong the refs decision is final. Deal with it after the game through the proper channels.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Mar 2017 10:02:00
No one (well I'm certainly not) saying he doesn't deserve to be punished but why isn't there consistency. Put it this way if Kodjia put his hands on a ref the exact same way the bloke from Blackburn did and then got a heavier ban, the fans would be ready to storm the FA head officeπŸ˜‚.
The original post was actually saying bacuna was in the wrong but I was pointing out the FA clearly think racism isn't as serious an offence, and it's not just their failings of the past look at the Shelvey incident this season. So next time bacuna should just spout pure racial hatred at the lino and then he'll be back after 3 games.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Mar 2017 10:20:22
Punishments need to start at the top. A ref or linesman at grassroots doesn't have any protection so examples need to be made. I doubt if any of us were linesman on a Sunday morning we'd be happy with being chest barged by a player.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Mar 2017 11:15:45
Raking over, then comparing and contrasting different decisions is truly pointless. You will always find something that suits your argument because these decisions are always subjective. And of course people make mistakes
The question is, was Bacuna's punishment, as a stand alone decision, forgetting any other decision, a fair one? In my view, and for the reasons already stated it was
Dragging up lenient decisions from the past is petulant. Bacuna seems to have taken the decision on the chin; maybe we should show some dignity and do the same rather than try to defend the indefensible.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Mar 2017 19:13:43
Shelvey got a 4 game ban for racism about a month ago, Akpan got a 4 game ban for pushing a ref two weeks ago. No one has tried to defend Bacuna, everyone is in agreement that Bacuna deserved punishment. I was questioning how the fa came to a 6 match ban when they dished out lesser bans for much more serious offenses. As Bruce mentioned in his press conference I hope they do challenge it as it makes no sense.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Mar 2017 01:15:41
Yes, and the point should be that they should have got more.
Bacuna got what he deserved
Like I say, we could go on forever digging up previous cases to prove our positions and both of us could do exactly that
The question to answer is do you think players should get a 6 match ban for intimidating officials? Personally I do.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Mar 2017 01:54:19
The thing with these Racism incidents is that they are purely verbal. Now i'm sure none of us condone racism and we all want to see it aggressively stamped out in football but in this country we have freedom of speech. You can say what you want and people don't have the right to not be offended by it. So long as its an isolated incident its not against the law as it doesn't constitute harassment and its not inciting violence from others.

Physical violence against another person is against the law. Which might be why you have seen longer bans for it in certain cases. If I remember right I think Suarez got a longer ban for biting than he did for his racist remarks. And Cantona got jail time. Personally i'd like to see stronger sanctions imposed by the clubs on their players if they act poorly. Drop them, give them additional fines, put them through the ringer publicly. Sadly though money always talks so Suarez can get his ban for biting and still get his big money move to Barca.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Mar 2017 12:11:10
I agree mendax, they should get hefty bans for that's sort of aggressive confrontation with an official, however I also think no matter who you play for the punishments have to be equal, not just "he should get more because he plays for villa and he'll get more media attention for this" - and that's the only reason I can see why they would have done this, because it really is ridiculous, one rule for one and another for someone else. And Andy if you found guilty of racism verbal or not your guilty it's racism, and racism doesn't come under "freedom of speech".

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Mar 2017 16:22:13
Chris, I agree with you totally that racism does not come under freedom of speech
I just think if you are waiting for all decisions to be called correctly and judged accordingly, in an environment where such decisions are largely subjective, you'll be waiting a long time. That's why I think you can only look at a decision on it's own merits . Within those parameters, I think that this time the officials got it about right.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Mar 2017 05:38:11
Look it up guys and you'll find it is. The price of freedom. What I don't understand is why the governing bodies haven't just come up with a comprehensive list of previous offenses and outline a set punishment for each offense based on what's previously been given which then becomes the precedent for all future occurrences - Which is then made public knowledge so the players, clubs are acutely aware of the ramifications. Then have a multiplier for repeat offenders.

I think you've got it spot on Charmed, he is no doubt a great player but sometimes, he can be guilty of holding onto the ball much too long, his greediness does sometimes get him goals but you have to get the balance right. His play for our second goal is exactly what we need, beat his man, power agression and then a cool head to lay it off.

When we're winning he does fade, 70th minute hit and he was just constantly offside, not getting into anything unless it was pin point to him. Watched Che Adams for the blues the day before, no where near as good as Kodija but could show him a thing or two about energy and closing down.
