its clear we all want a striker and maybe a cb. think the keeper might need changing but guzan i think can do the job as long as he stays focused and don't panic

It makes me laugh some people saying that our season is going to be no better that last. People have very short memories. This time last season we had 9 points, however we only had 3 shots in total with 3 goals. On the weekend we had 22 shots 9 on target in one game, also with 2 key attacking players out. For me it is early but we are definitely looking heaps better, with a lot more potential.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Even if we finish 17th again this season, I would rather watch Sherwood's team go out and compete every week than watch Lambert's team go out and get turned over every week never looking like we are in the game. With the amount of chances we are having, the goals will come eventually.

i can see peoples point when they say its no better, but i think they looking at it the wrong way, yes we still not beating the little team but what we are doing now is attacking and look like we can play again, its ok having 22 shot and 9 of which are on target but that stat much jack if the next stat you can give is we drew 2-2 with one of the worst teams in the league.

just remember gabbys shot vs palace was classed as a shot on target. we need to put them away

A few weeks ago this site was full of optimistic Villa fans thrilled with the signings we'd made and life in claret and blue was good.
A few weeks on and reading a lot of these posts some fans have gone back to just moaning about everything. Even though I'm
a villa fan I've never known fans like it. I was at Villa park against Notts County and Sunderland and everytime a villa player lost the ball or missed a chance or got tackled calls fans would just get on their back straight away. Every season for a few years we've lost good players and moaned about their loyalty but where's ours? We are 4 games into the new premier league season. 4 games gone in the best league in the world. We practically have a new team of players that are finding their feet and trying to click. Some will click straight away and some will take time but at villa park you're given ONE game by some fans and if you're not Lionel Messi then you get moaned at. Why do we feel We have the God given right to beat every team. Currently we're above Chelsea on goal difference, above Spurs and only a win away from arsenal, Manchester Utd and Liverpool. We all want new players in but what's the point of when they come in we're straight on their acts as soon as they lose the ball? I remember going a few seasons ago and watching Marc albrighton play. Everytime he got the ball he was under so much pressure by our fans and he knew that if the pass or cross was bad he'd get moaned at and that pressure got the better of him. Now he's at Leicester where the fans get behind the team and look at him now. Turning in good performances. We have Ayew that has played just a couple of games in a new league and because he's not got any goals yet some fans are already on his back. What a lot of "SUPPORTERS" need to remember is we have a role to play too. Apparently we're the 12th man. Well I imagine the villa players don't feel that. I actually heard 2 people in front of me against Sunderland say that TS had to be sacked as we were as bad under him as Paul lambert.

I'm sorry for the rant. I appreciate that every fan that pays their money has a right to their view and I also appreciate that our players are paid a hell of a lot of money, and some of those wages are paid for by us, but if we back our players to the hilt. Win lose or draw and drive them on instead of constantly moaning we may see a difference on the pitch.
Let's get a new CB in and let's get behind the players. Let's drive them
up the league. I know we've had a tough time of lay but we're called supporters for a reason. And we used to be the best in the land, so let's get behind them, I thought that's what we went to Villa park for!

Best post ever on here, I feel ashamed of us when we boo our own team, & the toasters who leave early when we're a goal or 2 down when they probs needs us the most. If I knew you & saw you in The Holte, I'd buy you a pint mate 👍🏻

Great post mike
Well said
I end up arguing with villa fans every time I go which is only on average about 8 games a season as I'm from Lancashire I obv want us to win every game but I'm afraid in this league that ain't going to happen it's tough now an it's going to be tough for a long time it's even tough for the biggest of teams so as mike says let's get behind them!!!

Spoken like a true Villa fan ,all that you say is all to true .
The doom & gloom brigade start every season ,sometimes before we've even kicked a ball .the players they moaned & groaned about last season ,are replaced ,but still not good enough .They moan about RL , not spending ,when he does still not good enough .Randy realy cares about this club ,he could of sold us off to one of the asset strippers if he didn't .iv supported this club for over 50+ years & it's never been any different ,it's as you say players should be given the chance to settle in

I must fall out with at least 5 people every home game!!
Why pay to come, just to moan and then leave on 80 mins?.

31 Aug 2015 17:46:44
Spot on Mike. It was fair to moan about Lambert's team after 3 years
To do the same with whole new Sherwood team after 3-4 games is ridiculous. I actually beleive will see the best of this team next year

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 19:58:14
I agree with you mike that we should be the 12th man and support the team. however, people saying that "the team needs time to gel" yeah I understand that but how long is that going to take??? let's say they haven't gelled by christmas, by then we could be bottom of the table which means we won't be able to attract any decent players with team morale being very low. all I want as a villa fan for this year is stability, I want to go into the later months knowing that my team won't be dragged into the relegation fight, I agree that some fans are being too downhearted already but they do need to start getting results and seeing out games. personally I think we should be on 8 points right now with a win against sunderland and then two draws against United & palace but our team couldn't cope and in a sense threw those points away. I know it's a project but you can tell if something is going to work early on(except Leicester last year) and I want the confidence that my team will be able to see out results.

Honestly think Hutton played well. He was creative and solid in defence while making some good runs in attack. I think for the Leicester game bacuna comes out and Gil starts. He was electric when he came on, great passing and good work rate. Can't believe he didn't start. I also think gestede comes out for kozak. They've got to give him an opportunity, he's proven he has goals in him. Other than that I think the team sheet should stay the same. So frustrating we couldn't find the goal in those last 20 mins. Barely left our half.

just read online this moring that LVG has told hernandez he can leave as he's not required. i hope someone from the club actually read these pages and if so can one them please go to the boss and say that's what we need, if he was to get game time i think he could get at least double figures

did a post earlier about the game and received a few replies and saw general discussion on social media, with many fans being pleased with the result today because we "had loads of possession" or "looked in control and made chances"
yeah we had 22 shots but yet only scored goal (other goal was a PK) against the worst side in the BPL!
don't know if I'm the only one who is upset by this result but come on we should be putting sunderland to the sword and steaming over them- also seeing many fans saying that westwood is "class" and is amazing as the holding midfielder.
I mean really what does he bring to the team because his passing is hit and miss, his tackling is laughable at times and never contributes with goals or assists and he always gets in the side while veretout and others don't get a sniff. people who compare him to barry are completely deluded because barry was a different beast entirely.
don't wanna come off as being a moaner but come on guys we can't beat the worst side in the BPL at home. in need of a real ST desperately.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

30 Aug 2015 04:04:22
Well, apparently Sherwood has done his hamstring by kicking a stack of water bottles, so I guess he is not entirely happy with the result either. I think it will take a little time after the window closes for Sherwood to really figure out his best squad and get everyone on the same wave length. I think your point about the fans being happy with the result can be taken both ways - No, we should not be happy with a draw at a struggling side, but I think after the years of misery under Lambert where we created nothing most games, 22 shots is shock to the system. I would rather the results not go our way and have a host of chances than just get turned over every week like before. Progress will be slow but I think Sherwood can do it and the results will come.

Another brace for Sinclair - for me he's got to be given a chance up front. If he was up front instead of Gestede, and Grealish was in behind dictating the play we would have slaughtered Sunderland today.

I just don't think Scott has enough presence to play as a lone striker I'd like to see him play off Austin wit jack an adama creating in the wide areas Scott an grealish swapping all time would cause defenders havoc wit gana an Westwood holding. Micah an amavi full back okore an lescott centre halves an a new keeper

21 shots on goal is great, especially with no Grealish or Adama and with other creative players benched. However, that only 6 of those were on target is not good enough as that is less than 30% accuracy. Also conceding two goals from six shots is poor. I think we are on our way to becoming a good team again but a new striker/central defender would not hurt.

Agree0 Disagree1

29 Aug 2015 22:02:06
I agree that a striker is needed but we could have won this game with the players we have. I've said it before and il say it again Ashely westwood is over rated and needs dropped. gana and sanchez controlled that midfield today while Ashely was non existant and popped up every now and then with a bad pass. one which led to their second goal. I wouldn't mind if he played some games because Sherwood and most fans see something I don't In him. but playing 3 in midfield against a side like sunderland especially limits our attacking options. very disappointed this result is worse than the 2 defeats in my eyes. so frustrating to watch

29 Aug 2015 17:48:17
I see lescot played today, can't see that transfer happening. players don't usually play if they are days from a transfer. and gestede words fail me could'd hit a barn door, we need a good striker as in c austin come on randy sign him now or someone else will

I see Gabby as starting alongside Gestede up front against Sunderland. Ideally Tim would love that partnership to pay dividends. If it doesn't this weekend, Sherwood needs to look at other alternatives. Why buy Ayew if he's not up to it and Sinclaire knows where the back of the net is.

Sunderland game is a big game for Gabby. He really needs to prove he's still got it, we can't hold players like Adams back!

BicC.
I agree with what you are saying mate but Gabby has been at the club for 10 years +, it is also the club he supports, so to prove he has still got it is a bit late for me, he hasn`t had it for 3 years.
In my opinion he is a very poor excuse for a premiership footballer, if you can`t produce the goods for the club you love you have no chance, I truly believe that it is pace and pace alone that has got him through his career, and to call him a legend is a joke.
A football legend is a player who hasn’t just played for the club, but is someone who gave there all towards Aston Villa Football Club and wore the Claret and Blue shirt with pride.
To be honest I do blame the management at VP over the past few years for continuing to pick him, so I am hoping that Tim will see sense and do the best thing for Aston Villa and drop him now, I just hope making him Captain does not get in the way !

I just roll my eyes and shake my head when I hear people talk about big games for Gabby or how he has another chance to prove himself
As Viiladave says, he hasn't done it for years now
This is one dead horse we should just stop flogging
(Unless we could flog him to Albion for 5 million, for a laugh. )
Gabby is never going to do it now. Let's accept it, get him out of the side and move forward

Reports saying Tottenham are willing to loan out Yedlin. Might be worth taking him on. Quick player. likes to get forward but better defensively than Bacuna in my opinion. Could give us more strength and depth at right-back without consuming funds that could be use on a striker.

Guys,

I don't know if I am a bit of a pessimist but when I looked at our first three games - away to a newly promoted team, always difficult as newly promoted teams are extra pumped up at the start of the season, home to United who always beat us, and then away to a solid Palace side - I thought we would get 1 point in total but we have 3!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2015 08:48:54
So now Celtic are out of the champions league and van djik could be off to Southampton, I wonder whether we could resurrect interest in Fonte?! I have no insider knowledge just am desperate for another decent centre back, and think Fonte is much better option than lescott!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2015 02:12:50
also I want to make a comment on mr joe bennett. when I saw him play in the 2012-2013 season I honestly thought he was the worst full-back I had even seen in BPL history and couldn't actually name a strength to his game. happy to see the back of him when he went out on loan, was very surprised that sherwood kept him considering all the dead wood being sold and very very surprised to see him being given the number 3 shirt especially seeing the arrival of amavi. might seem like I'm jumping on his wagon now he has scored but he seemed more of a "man" and more grown-up when playing tonight and sherwood must like him to keep him around especially when looking at his horrible record and performances for us. I think that we should play him at RB and see what he is about and give him another chance but in a different position.
thoughts?????

Believable2 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2015 07:27:17
No. He's a left back so he needs to play as a left back. Be that a back up one. Why play him at rb then slate the guy if he does not cut it as trying to put round pegs in square holes. A big no no.

I know amavi is a left back but after seeing him play i think we could give him a go at rb, if you watch him most of the time he's using his right foot, whether its to control the ball, dribbling or passing it, only time I've seen him use his left is to cross it in after he's gone past a player using his right.

Just a thought as i know how dodgy bennett has been in past seasons, but i do rate bacuna i just think he's better elsewhere on the pitch other than rb

Agree0 Disagree0

interesting game tonight and very happy that we have pulled the zulu's, been too long since a proper derby happened. (they are playing well which makes the tie even better)
good to see grealish having more influence on our play but I wanna see him start hitting some goals. his composure and control with the ball reminds me of david silva(I know it's a high comparison but he is just silk on the ball) but got the feeling he is a bit timid in front of goal and doesn't wanna take on the responsibly of shooting at net. love the bloke to pieces but do want him to march on now cause he is the key to whether this project will be successful - the catalyst

Believable2 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2015 23:54:43
Well that's another hat-trick for Sinclair, and he's created very little for others when playing out wide so I'm in favour of giving him a run up front. Bring Grealish left and have Gil or Veretout in the number 10 role with Adama on the right. Have Gana and Sanchez sit deep to break up the play and cover the defence when Amavi and Bacuna get forward. Its got to be worth a shot, the lads proven he can finish.

seeing how people are writing what they feel are best team is i thought i would have a stab at would i'm looking at. think 4 5 1 suits

guzan GK

bacuna RB
richards CB
okore CB
amavi LB

traore RW
gueye CDM
sanchez CDM
grealish LW

ljajic AM (if he signs)

gestede ST

only think i would look at is maybe a different ST can't decide who i think suits best Austin, Adebuyor or keep Kozak and if we didn't get ljajic in then put ayew LW and grealish AM behind ST

I think Llajic is a quality player, but with Grealish and Gil already on the books shouldn't a priority be a proven goal scorer instead of another creative midfielder? Ayew looks like he has about as many goals in him as Gabby does. Kozak had a good preseason but looks like he's on his way out and Rudy doesn't exactly look prolific. I'm really wondering where goals will come from.

25 Aug 2015 17:19:55
SP, I agree we need a goal scorer for sure, but to have such strong opinions on Ayew and Gestede this early into their Villa careers is a bit premature mate, no offence meant.
Give the blokes time to adjust, Gestede needs quality balls into the box on a regular basis from both sides, that does not happen as often as it should just yet.
And Ayew looks a bit lost at the moment because we are not creating through midfield, most of this I feel is because Gabby does not have the slightest idea when to move, where to move, and has no technical ability at all, therefore our midfield are stuffed not knowing when to play through balls.
How often do we see balls played on the ground through the gaps, hardly ever, Gil and Grealish can do this and I think we will see a different Ayew when this happens
Confidence will come when Gabby is dropped, you can`t win games week in week out with 10 men, he now offers nothing as far as I am concerned, if he continues to be selected I see no point in signing the players we have signed, times up Gabby mate.

Villadave - I wasn't meaning to be harsh on them (realize may be it sounded that way). I suppose a better context is, neither of them have a history of scoring a lot. Gestede get 20 in the championship last season, but that is one season, and at a lower level and Ayew has never really been prolific. I guess ultimately, I'm not convinced as of yet, and we don't want to find ourselves in the same position as last season, going into January having scored a whopping 11 goals.

reading many sources linking us with adem ljajic with not many people knowing what type of player he is. my football team is obviously aston villa but I've also followed and supported roma for about 3/4 years due to my love towards totti. ljajic is a weird one because when roma bought him in he was used mainly as the number 9 but didn't really score enough to inherit the position. as I've stated before I actually watch a lot of roma games and he is very versatile having seen him play LW,ST,RW and CAM on occasions. but I have to admit if we are talking 11 million that isn't good business, seeing that destro was available for about 7 million(reported) think we missed a trick there. obviously I would welcome him in and think he would be a good addition but the price tag is a bit steep for the player from what I've seen at roma.
(was very good at viola before his move however)

i almost chocked when i read a few twitter comments today about sacking him, i thought if it wasnt for him last year we would have gone down. as I've said today on here other than second half of palace game we been ok, yes we clearly missing a player or two but what we have is plenty good enough we just need a goal scorer. some creation from the center 3 would be good but other fans say veretout could solve that

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2015 17:12:26
it may only be twitter talk but have i really read today that some fans are already calling for sherwoods head??

are these people for real? yes its not kicked off great but other than second half of the palace game i can't see what he's done wrong, i'm the same as most people and feel all problems will be solved by a goal scorer,

only other area i have slight concern is we don't seem to have a creative CM all 4 that we have are simple sit and win the ball and play it few yards,

Believable1 Unbelievable0

24 Aug 2015 17:49:40
No reason for TS to be sacked atm. I think he has done a okay job so far for us this season whilst the team is gelling and will need time. My only concerns are the use of Gabby and not fully utilising subs to affect the game or replace tired players on a very hot day. Things which will hopefully improve as his experience grows. I think he has done very well in his first ever transfer window in shifting dead wood and reshaping the team with potential. I would like a new striker to join whilst Ayew and Gestede continue to adjust, partly because I do not want our new spend not to be almost the lowest in the league yet again.

As for creative CM, I think Veretout will become this given time. He was one of the best in Ligue 1 last year and has a lot of potential.

Agree2 Disagree0

24 Aug 2015 21:15:51
i don't really know much about veretout all i know is what I've seen so far which is not mucch in first two games, (i get he needs time to adjust). we really need that goal scorer and right about now as much as i'm going to hate it adebayor might help plus gabby either needs selling, dropping or loaned out to a championship team to catch abit of form and confidence

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2015 22:06:45
Veretout won the under 20 world cup a few years ago playing in a central three with Pogba and Kondogbia. He got 7 goals and 6 assists in a poor Nantes team last year and 5 assists the year before. Also heard that he topped the Lique 1 charts for most chances created (72 apparently) but not sure if that's true or not. He has been likened to Aaron Ramsey in style of play.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Aug 2015 23:02:47
didnt know all that, fair enough then maybe once he get hang of the game over here he can be usual, just seems when I've seen him play he don't get out our half, must just be sherwood asking him to hang back for now till his fitness is right or we have the right mix of players

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2015 15:15:22
Why are we going for lescott? Yes he's a villa fan and relative cheap, but for not a huge amount more cash, Jonny Evans is available and being linked with WBA! He'll bring more experience, is better, and has several more years ahead of him.
And let's not let januzaj go to Everton. Rather than go and get more unknown players from abroad, let's get a few tried n tested players from here - januzaj, remy.

Maybe a little controversial but why are we still talking about buying a striker. We have 5 at the club and between them we can score goals. Once our new midfield and wingers get used to the premiere league they'll supply and I have no doubt that if ayew, Sinclair or gusted get chances they will put them away. I think Adama will really help us in that dept. my major worry is our defence. There is no point in having a striker who cost £15m that scores 15/20 goals if defensively you're letting in 50/60 goals a season. You will always lose more than you win if you can't defend properly. Our defence has been shocking for years and for some reason Micah Richards comes in and all our prayers are answered. This lad hasn't played regular football for over 2 years and somehow he is now our captain and the Marshall of our defence. I rate Micah, Okore and Clark but they all need a rock alongside them and we don't have that. I don't want to come across as negative because I think our signings this season have been good if we don't sign a quality proven defender before the window closes I still see us struggling because no team can concede the amount of goals we do and obtain mid table. I know we'll score goals as the season goes on, I'm sure of it but can anyone tell me we look good or solid defensively? Bacuna is not a RB. 2 solid defenders and I think we'll be ok. Sorry if this post seems negative, but we all know what it's like, if Villa win its a great weekend and when they don't. Well it's just a bit crap. VTID

Just seen the team this afternoon, has Gabby got some compromising pictures of Sherwood ? In the team in front of Ayew, Sinclair, Traore and Gil ? Really. ? I know its early, but if they can't get in the team in front of Gabby, it does raise questions.

The team selection overall is interesting.

The defence looks significantly better than last year, but I just can't see how the front 6 selected today is better than the last season which struggled so badly. Westwood, Sanchez, Agbonlahor and Grealish, plus Gueye and Gestede. I know we have strong hopes for those 2, but they really aren't better than Delph and Benteke.

Hope I'm wrong, but just don't understand the thinking. Come on Villa !!!

Ricky the fatman Hatton.
'Citeh fans deserve success. !'

Why??

As their owner buys the league, players go there for wealth - non footballing reasons,
They given a huge arena for next to nothing to play in.

Jesus, to justify this makes me boil with rage. Every fan who watches their team, through thick and thin, yet remain loyal, goes if and when they can afford, (luckily I'm a season ticket holder, but I know people who wish they could go, but the expense stops them) deserve success, to buy it, throw money at pumped up 'superstars' with no loyalty, to either club or fan, does not give you a right, a place at the top table.
You earn that, and I'm sorry all Citeh fans, including any has been ex boxers, who can't control their mouth let alone what they put in it, you are, and will remain a second rate club.
Remember, you earn the right. You can't buy it.
I pray, who ever comes to buy our GREAT club remembers our history, our fans, our traditions, and last but not least. OUR ACADEMY.

throughout this window, I've been calling for a new RB to be called into the club with bacuna being moved into the midfield. was very surprised today to see his new contract agreed and must give him confidence for villa to give him this new deal out of the blue. I honestly reckon if the bloke can improve on his one on one defending & defensive decision making he could be a real force. bacuna got 5 assists last year I believe which is good for any RB/LB yet alone one who is playing in a team that finished 17th. bacuna has always been strong at passing the ball and his crossing is normally very accurate with him being a dead ball specialist. think us as fans have been very harsh on him & should focus more on his positives. believe we should rally around him and hopefully see him improve with this new confidence boost. just imagine a wing back partnership of amavi & improved bacuna

100% agree, all our players need our support, pisses me off big time when we get on any players back (unless it's a useless ex nose) or boo the team off at half time if we're a goal down, whoever we're playing. TS compared Bacuna to Cafu after the Sunderland game & i'd have to agree on that performance, he's got it in him & if his form dips, like any player, for the 1st time in forever, we have cover in all positions. The Amavi/Bacuna wing backs idea is a good 1, get them crosses in for Rudy & let the opposition worry about us & not us trying to stop them like Lambert would, good times ahead for Villa

cabaye, wijnaldum, clasie, caulker, steklenburg (remember southampton only been back few years in prem), shaqiri, afelly, m'vila, ayew (big bro), diamanti, capoue, lambert, rondon, ogbonna. all as far as i feel are highly rated and could boost our team,

Of those players listed, many of them have issues - mainly excessive transfer fees, excessive wages and age meaning there is no sell on fee potential. Compare them to the player we have brought in. Richards is at a prime age and cost nothing and has gone on to be given the armband, so well worth the high wages. Amavi, after only a couple of games has garnered universal praise and when he moves on, we will make a massive profit.

We have a framework in which we have to work (Basically the player sales money and maybe 15-20 million extra) and I can only see maybe one more signing coming in this season - If we had gone in for some of the ones listed we would not have been able to bring in as many recruits as we have, and we really did need the 10+ players in to begin the rebuilding process.

Personally I would love lennon, Townsend, fonte, and believe or not adebayor!

Get his head right, and he would score more goals than Rooney.
I don't care if he doesn't live in area, if he turns up for training, and gives his all in a match.

I know I'll get shot down for this, but hey ho!!

townsend, austin, huntelaar and remy i wouldn't say no too.

austin may only have had one good season but i think he's got a future if he can get the games, same as townsend,

huntelaar is a proven goal scorer but given his age think he could still bang in a few.

remy is being killed at chelsea he needs out before he's careers over

Although we have recurited well this summer, I still think we need some more signings e.g a right back, another centre back, an attacking mid and another striker!

Also think gabby should not be in the team and is only playing cause he's been at villa his whole career

Paul Lambert was interviewed on the Qatar coverage of the Villa vs Man U game and likened managing Villa to being on death row. Now I know he’s not the most popular guy with the members of this site but I did find myself agreeing with a lot of what he had to say - but let's just say he neglected to cover everything.

He correctly asserted that AVFC is far too big of a club to have been in the position it has for the last 5 years. He was also very critical of Lerner’s lack of media presence and supposedly told him on multiple occasions that he needed to be more open with the fans, as he was the one taking the flack week in week out, which I think most of us would agree with at least in part. He also still thinks that Lerner is desperate to sell up, and claims to have ‘protected’ him from the press by saying he was supportive when really their relationship was quite frayed. Make of that what you will, but I am willing to take his word on this. Don’t get me wrong, we absolutely had to sack Lambert (sooner than we did) but I always liked him as a manager away from the field, and I wish him well in the future.

Now, he was asked whether things would have been different if he was given more money - it’s a stupid question really because you would expect that you would build a better team with more cash. He cited Martin O’Neill as proof of this - the man who caused a huge part of the financial issues he was brought into resolve. Bonkers. He also claims that due to a lack of financial backing from Lerner his hands were tied and that you need to spend just to stand still in the Premier league. Money helps but I would argue otherwise giving Swansea and Southampton as examples.
The final major point he made was when he was asked about the style of play when he arrived at the club he said "I'm thinking I'm going to have to build a team here and you’re not going to do that when it's not viable to spend and I thought we are going to have to dig in here. The crowd was never going to put up with that’ - do we really buy this. In his first season, we were one of the best counter attack sides in the league and scored a decent number of goals and Benteke was close to top scorer, even if we did concede a lot. Then it got worse and worse and worse each season until he got fired. Sherwood came in and within a few weeks we looked a totally different team, with a different style of play. He had the exact same talent pool (to use the phrase loosely) to work with and got significantly better results. In a sense, unless we spend even more this window, Sherwood has probably had a lower net spend than any season under lambert and I think we have started well with some difficult fixtures.

Sorry for the long post, but I thought it was interesting and wanted to share.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

16 Aug 2015 10:05:16
I kind of agree with you Andy. Although lambert should of lost his job possible months before he did, I like the bloke, like what he says, (when I can understand it) and think he can hold his head high for the way he has not slagged a single part of the club since being ousted. I wish him well.

However, I think he was tactically naive, and the going into a game, to hold out for a point before kick off, is an outrage. With this mentality you will always lose more than you win, all Tim had to do, was show them where the other teams throat was, and tell us to go for the jugular!!

All that he said re Lerner, finance, and MON was spot on, but, his blind faith, and constant backing of his under achieving playing staff gave them a comfort blanket that nearly suffocated us.
I hope for his own career he learnt lessons, or he will always always fail and nearly destroy another club.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Aug 2015 17:59:49
Totally agree Flackie on his tactics, its was a point I wanted to make more explicitly in my original post but I must have glossed over it. The way Sherwood came in and within weeks had the squad playing much better shows that Lamberts tactics were at fault.

The thing about his interview I wasn't impressed with was he claimed that with more money from Lerner he would still be the manager today - how can he say that so matter of factly when his replacement came in and got much better results with the exact same resources?

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Aug 2015 18:34:35
He knows that deep down he wouldn't be.
But, I do think that Lerner has perhaps realised that we eventually had to get relegated buying poor players, so being devils advocate, maybe if he had available to him a better quality player, results might of been better?!.
But, if ifs and ands, where pots and pans!!.

He doesn't know!! He's trying to deflect from the fact he failed, which in all honesty is ok, you can't be a success all the time.

We as fans need to look at the here and now, and realise that, in my opinion, this could be a special year.

If we can get vp rocking again, using an old cleche turn it into a fortress, we will be at least top half.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2015 21:03:46
Well, it could be argued that if he knew the funds weren't there then he would have to generate the funds himself to overhaul the team. If we had of sold Benteke to Spurs after his first season for 25 million, surely he could of brought in some better replacements to strengthen the squad overall. I really don't think Lerner has invested any more this season than in any previous season under Lambert, its just that we have had the Benteke money to bring in a 4 or 5 better quality players to improve the first team.

Now it could be said that Sherwood is reaping the rewards of the ground work Lambert put in, but realistically would Liverpool have bought Benteke for 32.5 million if Sherwood hadn't got him firing again. I think Sherwood new the score coming in, in that to have a significant war chest to overhaul the team he had to get top money for Benteke and it already looks promising for the season ahead. By setting up the team to give Benteke the ball as much as possible, was really just an exercise in increasing his saleability. My point is Lambert had the same opportunity 2 years ago and didn't take it, and I think that really that was the turning point for him, as it prevented him from taking the team as a whole forward.

I think Sherwood has got the right idea, and it wouldn't surprise me if some of the players he has brought in are 'investments'; they have one good season with us, double in value and he flips them for a big profit so he has funds to play with next year. Which from a financial standpoint is the way we need to operate until Lerner finally sells up.

As fans of course we need to look at the here and now on the pitch, but in order to understand the present and predict the future, you have to have a detailed understanding of what was wrong before. I think Sherwood has seen that Lambert had this opportunity to sell Benteke big and failed to take it, which doomed him in the long run. His statement at the start of the window revealing Benteke's release clause was to generate interest and get him sold early so he would have the cash to work with. And from the look of things so far, I think Sherwood is bang on in his approach, which gives me great hope for not only this season, but for the future of the club.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Aug 2015 21:51:31
Andy I couldn't agree more!
Totally spot on.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2015 23:31:58
I was never a fan of Lambert and was glad to see him gone
However, there has clearly been a shift in attitude this season by Lerner, largely prompted by the fear of missing out on next years TV money
Although we have probably broken even this season in terms of transfer fees, we are clearly paying a lot more in wages in order to attract a much better quality of player. This was equally clearly, not happening on Lambert's watch
I like Sherwood, I think he will do better than Lambert would have, But let's not kid ourselves that we are now comparing apples with apples. Lambert would never have been able to bring in Richards on 65 k a week or pay 9 million for a full back like Amavi, whether Benteke had been sold or not

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Aug 2015 00:27:58
Maybe you were never a fan of Lambert Mendax, but many people were when he first joined and would have been a good percentage of people's first choice. He certainly had a much more positive reception initially than Sherwood did.

I agree with you to a point regarding the wages but he was allowed to bring in players like Benteke, Kozak and Vlaar who I can't see being on less money than most of Sherwoods signings. Another thing to consider is that ticket sales have gone up massively since Sherwood arrived which may have contributed in part to the willingness to pay higher wages. I'm not entirely convinced either that Lambert was forced to only get in players on low wages, I think it was dependant on him getting rid of the bomb squad who were on ridiculous contracts. You mention Richards 65k per week under Sherwood, well Lambert had 65k per week on Bent, which I'm sure he could have repurposed as he wished if he could get him out of the club, which he failed to do.

So whilst I agree with you in part that there has been a bit of a change in the wage structure, I can't see it being quite as bad as Lambert makes out. I think if we had Sherwood for the 2 and 1/2 seasons we had Lambert for, we would be in a stronger position now than we are and the last few seasons wouldn't have been quite so dreary and miserable.

Anyway I wish Lambert the best for the future, even if I think he could have made a better fist of his time with us, and onwards and upwards under Sherwood - UTV

I was abroad for the ManU game (thank god re M6!!) I watched the match in a bar and Lambert was pundit with Andy Gray an Kevin Keegan. I was amazed how young lambert looked !! Since leaving he looks 10 yrs younger so could tell what a hellish time it was for not just us but him too. He also sounded more coherent and even laughed a joked!!! Most of us wanted him and his two great experiments of build a team from the lower leagues and play the Barca way both failed miserably! Glad he's gone but wish him all the best and on a human level am pleased he has his life back!!

That's good to hear Nick, I hadn't seen the interview, I had only read about what was said - the constant pressures of being a manager always at the bottom of the table must get to you after such a long time of struggling. Why are we reading so much into yesterday's performance??
All the new signings need time.
Gabby, although I totally agree, should not play from start, actually had a half decent game, he was in my opinion marking carrick out the game. Yes going forward he didn't offer enough, but that wasn't his role yesterday.

Also we matched and at times out played a top four team, and deserved at least a point from yesterday.

If we had played anyone other than a top four team, would of been 3 points.

Give them time, how after two games can we be on the players backs??

from the highlights for Bournemouth and watching the utd game the only problems i have so far are 1, a times richards looks like a headless chicken but hopefully this will change after more game time. 2, we need to either buy a new RB (i keep saying this as i fell we are weakest there) or play a RB and not an attacking mid there. 3,i realize its only 2 games but not 100% sold on venetout yet but as plenty have said already is they may need time to adjust

First game of the season at home i thought we looked good. Yeah we lost but wasnt dominated by a "top 4 side". a lot of new players that will take time to gel so have to be patient. Nearly all players looked to give 100% chasing the ball etc. Gabby tho? I love him villa through and through but he's just not good enough. Hope tim will sub him next game. Clark and richards look solid at the back and amavi looks to be a great player. Midfield looked improved aswell. Got to admit even though we lost i enjoyed the game, great atmosphere aswell. Few chances if any against Man U, personally Amavi yet again great atleast 2 crosses were class if only Gestede was on pitch at that time, (capt) need to sort def set pieces better as we would have been punished big time if they were on there game, but bacuna haters he had really good game I think, ayew struggled in match, Westwood was okay and gueye broke up a lot and looks better and better, we need grealish ASAP and bring on the barca signing but overall although Man U tho off game we gave them a a hard physical game but we ran out of steam and it's not been along time personally we been able to push UTD physically, we will get better and better just need creativity and we will have number of options soon IMO

Adama takes number 20. Now, not to get bogged down with squad numbers again BUT from what I've read Traore is very self-confident/ a little egotistical. I think he'll be a great player, but that leads me to believe, if he'd have had the choice he'd have taken 10 over 20. so is TS holding onto it for another, more established signing?

My Line up would be :

Guzan
Hutton Richards Clark Amavi
Gueye Veretout Westwood
Adama Gested Sinclair

At home we could go even more attacking and have Gil or Grealish in place of Westwood. This is of course assuming we don't sign any more quality players before the 28th.

Sorry been abroad and have tried to keep up!!! So we are looking at centre halves, centre forwards with odd THS winger thrown in?? What are we doing for a right back???? Are we going to rely on LB, with Hutton and Baker as back up or move MR out of centre? Surely need to sign a right back. Come on TS need a solid RB!

Welcome to the site Heravilla - I can sort of see your point but Sherwood has always talked about the youth he brought into the Tottenham side - so I'm sure he will find plenty to work with in an academy like Villa's. I wouldn't be too worried, they will get the chance if they are good enough.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Schmitts, Andy Carrol was a marquee signing for Liverpool and West Ham, and never amounted to much did it.
We are getting in several quality players that will do us just fine, Our marquee signing might already be at Villa Park, any one of our signings could turn out to be world class, who knows.
Spending 20, 30 or even 40 mil on a player will not guarantee anything.

I completely agree with you guys - the signings we have bought in have come with highly rated backgrounds and I do believe we have been very swift in the transfer window. I'm just saying that stoke city have signed shaqiri who has won a treble and would have been a perfect buy for us playing on the right side. I'm very happy with our business(mostly with amavi because believe he fills that LB void we have had since bruma) just I wanna see more. so far as I'm speaking we haven't spent any actual money and just wanna see the club show a bit more intent and go out and sign that "woah" player. don't wanna come off as if I'm moaning but just want that signing that makes everyone else take notice that we can push on to that higher level and attract higher caliber stars still.
(chelsea with gullit - everton with lukaku - middlesborough with juninho)

{Ed007's Note - Shaqiri brings a lot of baggage that AV don't need at this time. AV need to become a well organised hard working team and build from there, they don't need another self-serving ego disrupting behind the scenes.}

Have seen that Forest are close to letting Henri Lansbury leave for Burnley for around £4M. This guy was best player on pitch during pre-season friendly & has good football pedigree. Anyone think he fits TS's conditions for recruiting English players? Could see Forest wanting Gary Gardner in return but for all his promise, can he actually spend an entire season without significant injury?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Would happily take lansbury!! Why arsenal let him go is beyond me, think he deserves a chance in the prem and think he could flurish.
Wouldnt get rid of gardner for any amount of money, was probably one of the best young english talents around at one time, petrov raved about him, wilshire and a lot of the other ex england u21 squad said he was the best player theyd played with, i just think he's been very unlucky with his injuries and with some confidence and game time I believe he could be one of the best players villa have had in time to come

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2015 17:48:39
I thought we were poor first half.
Second half was better with the introduction of Gestede.
Amavi is very good going forward but like Bacuna is going to get caught out defensively.
Our midfield 3 were ok, good at keeping the ball and a lot of energy, but I'm worried they are all too similar and don't have the imagination nor the passing ability to open up defences and that's been a big problem for us over the last few years.

I'd really like Gil (when fit) to play in a midfield 3 with the freedom to get forward and be the playmaker we're desperate for, I think he'd be brilliant in that role and would make a massive difference.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2015 12:48:54
I think veretout has the ability to unlock a defence with a killer pass. Also with Gil and grealish to come back the creativity within the team should be ok.
Looking at our forward line you could argue it looks better this season as we are not relying on one guy. But in general the squad as a whole seems to have better dimensions for various formations that can be deployed.
Certainly need a winger. I believe ts will hold out till January before making any further decision on the RB solution.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2015 07:19:25
You say Amavi got caught out defensively but I'm not sure he did really. Its just his style of play, he plays defensively on the back foot almost all the time but is an incredible slide tackler. I was also very impressed by how well Sinclair covered for him - give them a few games together to learn each others game better and they will be a lethal combination. let's also not forget that he was covering Matt Richie, who is by far their best player. I think I read that over 40% of their attacks came down that side rather than the left or centre. So overall I was very impressed.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2015 16:28:30
I have to say I'm not massively excited about the idea of Lennon

Let me guess Mate does his name begin with G.
I tend to agree with you Mendax, I am not mad about Lennon either, reports are circulating that he would prefer to go to Everton ?? lazy journalism I expect, if that’s the case let him go.
If there is any truth about Adama Traore I would pull out all the stops to get him, the guy looks very good and would be a plus for any side that get him.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2015 17:28:04

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2015 19:18:58

I would like someone who is very mobile and runs into spaces between defenders, someone like Gary Shaw playing off a big man.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2015 21:17:29
I think we was on the the subject this time last with lennon. I agree with mendax. lennons final ball has always been dreadful. He quick hasn't got much else to his game tbh. never done enough for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2015 10:57:30
Another winger (Lennon or Townsend) and I believe we need another target man up front. Austin or someone else. Not EA. Maybe even destro but I doubt we would get him. I think if we can do that and Gil+grealish get fit again we will be set. I think bacuna can do the job, let him probe himself in the coming weeks. Big game coming up against Man U this week will show how the new players are settling in.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

09 Aug 2015 16:55:05
I think if Gil had played yesterday instead of Agbonlahor and Grealish instead of Bacuna we would of looked a more accomplished side, IF FIT OF COURSE
We just needed someone who could hold the ball and pull people out of position, Ayew will be a better player when we can feed him from midfield, he is a player with good movement and an eye for goal, but if he is not getting the ball what else can he do, don’t get on his back already the bloke has been here 5 minutes.
We will improve as the season progresses, 3 points yesterday was a good result to be fair.

Agree1 Disagree1

09 Aug 2015 23:55:56
I'm not sure Grealish would be a good choice at RB Villadave but I agree in principle. I thought the combination of Sinclair and Amavi down the left looked really promising and we need to emulate that on the right.

I really don't think we need another striker Villa_boy_22. Especially a target man. We have Gestede and Kozak to do that job, with Ayew and Agbonlahor for pace. It looks like we are favouring a 1 up top style of play so I would rather we spent any more money we have on strengthening our defence and right side.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2015 13:14:11
Sorry Andy, my fault I didn’t mean grealish at RB, That makes no sense at all.
Its an age thing mate, just completely forget what I said.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2015 13:15:29
Thinking about it today and have to say I think you're right about not needing another striker. What we need is a player who is comfortable in the prem and ready to fire down that right side. Whether it be Lennon or Townsend or whoever else ts is thinking about I agree we need them. Sure both of these players can have problems finishing but I think they will add pace and are capable of opening up the play a bit.

I agree it would be good to strengthen the defence but it doesn't seem ts is at all looking for anymore defenders, at least that's not his priority. I do agree with you on that though and hopefully we can pull in somebody.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2015 22:03:06
I think Gestede looks like the way forward this season and its obvious that Sherwood really rates him. What we need is to get him the service - Sinclair, Grealish, Gil, Veretout, Ayew will provide from the midfield and Amavi will from LB. I do think you have hit the nail on the head by suggesting we need pace on the right Villa_boy_22, from both RW and RB. After his error on Saturday, I would throw in a cheeky bid for Kyle Walker just to test Spurs resolve. I agree Lennon's final product can be subpar but I think we need the pace and he is at the right money - Obertan is crap and his pace alone created that Newcastle goal.

And Villadave - I know you didn't really mean to put Grealish at RB, everyone has a brainfart now and again :)

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2015 10:57:22
I have been reading my paper today and I am a bit miffed to say the least.
Player ratings in one Sunday paper give Amavi 6 and then go on to give Agbonlahor 7, how the hell doe`s that work then.
Gabby would not be in my starting line up end of, and if Lennon does come to VP I can`t see any hope for Agbonlahor at all.
Thoughts lads ???

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Agree1 Disagree0

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2015 10:14:04
Buzzing to get the 3 points yesterday, Amavi was unreal imo. Anyone know where Kozak was? And with Gil and Grealish injured think it highlights we need another attacking player, as were still in profit from sales and buys Randy should loosen the purse strings and go all out for Austin or Townsend

Believable1 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2015 07:57:28
After watching us yesterday I still think we need 4 more players. A rb a cb a creative cm and St. Don't think bacuna is no where near good enough nor Hutton. Need another cb so we have quality in numbers. My main two worries are we don't seem to have that creative spark in midfield to spray passes though and set up goals. Ayew to me I know it's early to judge him but he looks like gabby like he won't get many goals. There for we need another St as can't put all the pressure on rudy to deliver week after week. Thoughts guys and who would you choose to fill the positions.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2015 08:35:55
I said to my mate ayew is another gabby.
Fast and hard working but quite frankly not good enough.
Think we will be more creative when Gil and grealish are back fit.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2015 08:37:35

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2015 09:19:58
I think as far as The midfield is concerned we will be fine baring in mind we've still got Gill and Grealish to come back, both adding the creative spark we need. Also Veretout is a creative attacking mid who will add goals and assists once he's settled. Can't really judge Ayew off one game as he was playing out wide and as a team we were creating very little in the first half. Agree we do need another striker though as Gabby needs to be kept well away from the starting XI

Agree2 Disagree0

11 Aug 2015 07:11:05
I think we got shafted with Ayew to be honest. Swansea got the good Ayew for free, and we get the rubbish one for 10 million! I hope Sherwood is right about him having potential and he can get him firing quickly, but I don't recall him touching the ball in the Bournemouth game. He's really the only signing we've made that I'm not that impressed with so far.

Yes these players have to gel, hit the ground running early on, but why not ??

Hi all 1st post even though I've been following the sight for ages. I agree with kiddyavfc that the type of signings are good as they are all have good technical ability and Gestede is just a battering ram of a player. I think we still need a proven premier league goal scorer to add to promise we have signed. Would also love players linked in Praet, Adama and the young Columbian CB. Walker or Yeldin from Spurs would be icing on cake. Good luck 2day Villa boys let our season roar.

Benteke throwing his toys out of the pram over Tims efforts to get him scoring again.
The guy wants to man up a bit, If Sherwood had of compared him to Shearer or Van Nistelrooy rather than an old fashioned centre forward would he of reacted the same "NO"
Grow up Tekkers, it's a comment that most of us will use in this country about someone, not a character or personal attack.

I'm happy (I think) with the type of players we have bought in this window, and money we are spending. However, when you compare the money we have spent to the money received from sales, there can't bd much difference. Also lost a number of big earners, so if like to think we still have scope to spend another 20 odd million on maybe 3 players. Transfer window is a way off, but I'd be happy with Lennon for five as a start.

very disappointed in adebayor, shame he believes he is better then he is actually is.
personally very excited to see us linked with rondon, he is a perfect benteke replacement due to their same stature and athleticism. reports saying they have received a bid from a "un-named BPL club" , the veretout deal we were also referred to as the un-named club and seeing rondon & another RB come into the club I would call it a very successful transfer window maybe the best in the BPL overall

£100k a week would have been ok to swallow if the lad wanted to fight for the Lions, if he don't want to leave the smoke and is worried about a relegation battle, stay where you are mate. Our club is steeped in standard and history and I personally would go for someone like Hernandez to play off Rudy, I still think a right back, centre half and a marquee winger/ striker is still on the cards, my mate reckons that Tim has another £25m up his sleeve so can see something happening before TW closes

Lots of Tw@tter gossip saying we will sign adebayor by Saturday. That we're in pole position to sign traorè from Barca and also Italian playmaker diamanti from A Chinese side. Diamanti is 32 now but I remember him when he had a season at West Ham and he was quality. I think these would be 3 decent signings. Also read Ray Wilkins saying that TS knows so much about so many players and that there aren't many players he doesn't know about in world football. He says that allow the players have been chosen based on the intensity of how we'll train and play football. Hopefully he then finds a RB and another CB. Cissokho off to Porto too.

I tend to agree with Micah Richards who I think is a good signing you just never know with injurys so yes a commanding centre half is a must and with gabby he is a villa boy all the way but I just think he has had is day I would have liked Defoe in January but somebody like that is what we need I for a goal and plenty of pace

Welcome aboard mate. I think an experienced centre half would be a good idea.
However, I know this sounds mad what with us seemingly going for Adebayor, but I think we need another pacey forward. In short, a replacement for Gabby; someone who can stretch the defence and gives us something on the counter attack.
Embolo would be my choice
I also think an out and out wide man, for the same reasons

Keep reading that gary gardner will be sold, personally i'm not happy about this at all, he's a class player and think he would bring more to the team than any of our current midfielders given the chance, were light in the centre of the park anyway! Really hope he stays, don't know if it is the media stirring it up or that tims not keen, either way it would be bad if he left

Believable4 Unbelievable0

03 Aug 2015 11:00:31

03 Aug 2015 09:41:59

Hi I'm new to the site just want to coment on what you said edd about ki Adam Matthew and Joe ledley getting in the villa squad last season ki yes really good player but Matthew and ledley championship players at best so glad there not in our squad

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Welcome aboard, it's sweet that I've enticed you to make your first post :) Joe Ledley played more than 30 matches for a team that finished 10 points and 7 places ahead of Aston Villa so he's established himself in the PL.
As for Adam Matthews, two words - Alan Hutton! Without question Hutton is a top candidate for THE worst player in Europe over the last 10 years and if you don't think Adam Matthews is a better player than Hutton then you're either Alan Hutton or on the wind up. You've obviously not seen him playing that often but if Matthews can stay fit he won't be at Sunderland long before there are other teams sniffing round him.}

02 Aug 2015 20:56:21
Upset about Huttons Rangers link Ed?
I like him, isn't a world beater but he does a job

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Rangers link? Hutton's more like missing link but it's nothing to do with that, I actually loved him playing for Rangers because he was utter muck back then as well. I have never spoken to anyone who rates him unless they support a team he's played for and then it's a 50/50 split.
Look, I understand the mortal embarrassment of having a diddy like Hutton in your team but don't try to kid me that you think he's a decent player. There's a rumour that Spurs used to train with a ball with a bell inside it so that Hutton knew where it was...
How bad must you be to be one of the worst players Scotland's EVER produced?}

right back is a position I also think we need upgrading seeing someone come through the door but I wouldn't mind seeing cissokho being given a chance there. yes I know it's quite controversial and ambitious but last year when he played he was actually decent at defending but his outsourcing and forward runs were suspect. place him at right back with some cover and I think he could do a shift for us. also. I've been impressed with cissohko since his Lyon days in 2010 and was over the tony moon when he joined. people know of his potential with his CV showing he's been at liverpool & Valencia but he just needs moulding.(if we don't bring in a RB during the window)

How many more signings do you guys think we will make, and roughly how much more investment do you think Lerner will put in. From the figures I have seen we have spent almost to the penny exactly the money we have got from selling players.

IN OUT
Gueye - 9 million Delph - 8 million
Amavi - 9 million Benteke - 32.5 mil
Ayew - 8.5 million Wiemann - 2.75 mil
Veretout - 7 million Lowton - 1 million
Gestede - 6 million Sylla - 1 million
Sinclair - 2.5 million
Crespo - 500k

Total - 42.5 million Total - 45.25 million

Obviously these figures are probably not entirely accurate and there will be sell on clauses and things to be paid, but we have removed a lot of unnecessary wages too. Any further investment we see now must be coming from directly from Lerner, so now we get to really see what his intentions for the club are.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Aug 2015 23:05:58
Not sure to be honest, maybe another couple.
We definitely need another Centre Half so that Richards can go Right Back his best position, we also need a good winger who can switch wings if need be, Gestedes strongest point is his power in the air so we need plenty of crosses into the box.
20 mil should just about do it I think, or should I say I hope, squeak squeek

Believable2 Unbelievable1

01 Aug 2015 21:32:31
Our number one has not played pre season as away at international comp.
In my opinion we have one of the best number 1s in league in guzan, perhaps we should get behind him, and be positive instead of finding constant fault.
A keeper is about stopping goals, he is as good as anyone at this. I agree his kicking is not great, so we should stop playing at the back, and use his strengths.

Remember bosnich?? Could kick a cows ass, yet now rated as a villa great.

If a striker misses a shot, not mentioned, a midfielder misses a pass, no mention, a defender miss times a tackle, no mention. Keeper makes a mistake, he is hung drawn and quartered.

Another CH needed. Someone who can command back four.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

01 Aug 2015 17:00:31
don't wanna seem like jumping on the bandwagon due to his hat-trick today but I wouldn't mind sinclair being turned into a ST. he is the type of player who plays of the shoulder of a defender and his finishing has been better then expected. I don't feel his crossing is strong enough for him to play out wide so a move inside to a more central spot would be welcomed by me. don't wanna mention the possibility of a "Henry" transformation but he could develop into a good ST with the right development and service. given the number 9 as well for his shirt wasn't a convenient choice either??

Believable0 Unbelievable1

01 Aug 2015 19:38:22
I wouldn't mind this either, but we really don't have many other options on either side at wide midfield. I see him more in the mould of this modern style of winger that the top teams have - where the emphasis is more on goal scoring than providing. Like Robben and Neymar, they play more as wide strikers than wide men. But I guess where he fits in is down to Sherwoods preferred formations.

I think he could be a real gem this year, especially if he is as clinical as he was today - Paul Lamberts parting gift.
