Before people start to slit their wrists, cry and sulk bare in mind we haven't completed all our signings yet and we have gabby and fonz out. Hence why we had to play bent up top on his own. So c'mon get behind the lads at the next home game and watch the results fly in. Braveheart speech over COYVB

Believable9 Unbelievable7

Gabby is poor and Fonz is champ standard at best. We need Defoe Johnson and a CB

Agree11 Disagree5

. Gabby an Fonz? Based on their performances last season there not gunna make much difference an personally i dont thin PL would have started with either of them.

But never the less its only 1 game an there was a positive, we kept the ball on the ground an kept possession which shows PLs intentions an with a few more games under our belt im confident we'll find that penetration we were lacking today. scg87

Agree10 Disagree3

Who said we haven't completed all our signings. i think we have, RL won't give any more money this is i'm afraid what we will have to play with. another poor season ahead

Agree5 Disagree5

We could all see what Paul Lambert was trying to do yesterday - play football and this is going to take time. We passed the ball yesterday but failed to penetrate.
Check out the passing stats. The problem is we need more players asap. A minimum of six including a forward a left winger, two in midfield, a new central defensive player and a left back. We were light on numbers last year and our bench yesterday was just kids. If we don't have an influx of new players we will struggle all season - fact. Just like we have for the last two seasons. The club is in decline. Randy needs to act and back Paul Lambert.

Agree10 Disagree0

Gabby & Fonz are average at best. We need investment a Marquee Signing & some quality young proven talent that would want to play for villa Konate should be a must, just look at the affect of Ba/Cisse at NUFC. a def NO to Defoe & Ken Jones that are not even good enough for their cuurent teams.. And D.Bent has a habbit of no involvement for 85mins then an effort or the odd goal, Would that be enough for any top 6 side..NNNooo! maybe PL should look for a more drastic sale of bent even at £13-15mill and re-invest it in more dynamic players which would offer us a different option. Look at the purchases of Laundrup you can already see their quality. for Me Dunne/Gabby/Bent/warnock/hutton out their sale should warrant enough funds to bring in quality and expand our already small squad

Agree7 Disagree3

You won't be getting Johnson he's on his way to Sunderland as they have better squad. Bent must wonder where the goals are going to come from without any supply and he only touched the ball half a dozen times yesterday. Bring back Downing

Agree1 Disagree9

Bring back downing to get service. He didn't get one assist last year! Tom ince and Phillips is what we need. And Owen on a free. Don't waste money on Defoe levy will want 8mil + for a 29 year old. Wilfred bony would be a good signing

Agree3 Disagree3

Firstly, Defoe is the only recognised striker Spurs have at the moment therefore there is no way they will sell him. Secondly, our pressing need is a midfield playmaker, someone who can beat players going forward and create chances for Bent. Thought Ireland was poor on Saturday and should have been replaced by Lambert. Thirdly, N'Zogbia seems to have been reinvigorated under Lambert but he now needs to learn when to lay of the ball rather than trying to take on three defenders in one go. Fourthly, let's wait and see if PL plays different tactics at home and goes for it more. Finally, I thought we were unlucky to lose on Saturday, we maybe didn't deserve to win because we didn't create any real chances but we didn't deserve to lose. For me, having not seen any replays, the free kick was soft and the ball into the box came off the West Ham player(think it may have been Taylor) behind Clarke last so it was offside.

Agree0 Disagree4

Some players click at different clubs for different reasons, don't say assist or soccer when talking about football.

Agree2 Disagree0

You said what we 'need is a midfield playmaker, someone who can beat players going forward and create chances for Bent then you said 'N'Zogbia seems to have been reinvigorated under Lambert but he now needs to learn when to lay of the ball rather than trying to take on three defenders in one go'. Some people love to contridict themselves! Lmao

Agree4 Disagree0

There are times when you take on the defender, the are times when you need to play the pass as you have no hope of beating the three guys in front of you. Good footballers know which option is the correct one. It's not contradictary to want a playmaker who is capable of beating people and passing the ball as well.

Agree1 Disagree3

It is contradictary when you want players to beat defenders then you criticise when a player attempts to do that

Agree1 Disagree1

Fonz can stay out too .dont rate him as a premier league player one bit !

im worried, a very poor performance.
Gardner was awful when he came on, we looked flat and weak.
We look set to struggle if today is anything to go by...

With Eck out and a new manager we are all pleased to have my most concrete prediction for the season, Fans to become vocally discontent - anger will be aimed at Lerner and Faulkner.

Believable3 Unbelievable6

I think we have to all understand that we cant expect the team to change over the preseason and win most of the games like we were 3-4 years ago. It is a slow process and PL has said this as we have a young team; just look at our defense, Vlaar was the only older player in defense today with the likes of clarke and lowton. We should aim to play our football in the right way, we will stay up and lets work towardsw the future for next season.

Agree5 Disagree2

You only mention Gardner who will be our best player one day soon!,the likes of Ireland, nzog, mature players were poor and need to be sold ,delpth too light weight,I like a passing game but we need a cutting edge to go with this way of playing

Agree3 Disagree2

I am still waiting for a good performance from Delph. El Ahmadi looked decent but generally everyone was below par. The reason I mentioned Gardner is because he is being hailed as the great hope... unfair of me maybe but he gave the ball away 4 consecutive times at one point.

Agree5 Disagree0

Yes unfair he needs time unlike Ireland and N'Zogbia who are both over rated and older and had enough chances,i agree about Delph

Agree0 Disagree2

What you narrow minded people forget is that Delph has had a full season is 4-5 years. Give him ten games then you will see the real Delph. Unless he gets injured again :/

Agree2 Disagree1

Delph injury nowhere near as Gardners !who i beleive needs 10 games and you will see the real Gardner

Agree2 Disagree1

The real delph was left at leeds championship player at best MON wasted money

Pre season is supposed to be about testing new things formations players etc however i didint see any difference to how we were last season today again we cant keep the ball again we cant pick out a pass again we look like 11 kids who couldnt win at connect 4 again we are lumping balls over the top to oposition goalies bent looked frustrated holman has backwards feet and Nzogbia might as well pack his bags now! The only positive from today is ronnie vlaar bled for the cause and looks a real centre half however clark is not good enough and dunne is past it. I don want replies like oh its only one game or theres plenty of time to go because we should be beating west ham home, away or anywhere else! We havent changed a bit mentality wise

Very disgruntled villan

Believable7 Unbelievable6

It's ok, its only one game and there is plenty of time to go

sorry, i couldnt resist

Agree6 Disagree2

Really when we had 67% posession through the whole match and also completed more passes in that match than we did for most of the season the only problem is we lack cutting edge in the final 3rd N'zogbia needs to get into gear and we need a striker to partner bent. Lerner was at the match. So lambert will address the situation and i'm sure Lerner will dip into his pocket.
I doubt you're a villa fan tbh

Agree5 Disagree2

Tough! its only one 1 game. VTD

Agree7 Disagree1

67% match off the day said 51% and RL wasn't there he was to busy counting his billions

Agree2 Disagree2

Typical reaction I was waiting for!!
Usual garbage talk from some villa fans already.

Konate & Brahami to sign for Villa on by next Sunday Guaranteed.

An offer to purchase Guidetti is still hangning in the balance, whilst Sturridge has says he need CL football

Believable3 Unbelievable10

If it is guaranteed, then surely someone has spilled the beans....where is this coming from?

Agree4 Disagree0

We need it to be honest. We totally lacked any cutting edge against the hammers. We totally bossed the midfield for half hours but couldn't put the ball in the net. Bent was useless and seemed to be blaming everyone else instead of trying to make runs or get into space to receive the ball. Need another striker as we can't wait for Gabby to get fit and hope that he doesn't carry over his form from last season.

Would love to see Defoe playing for the Villa, but Jones?? WHY

Agree9 Disagree3

Jones no thanks

Agree10 Disagree3

Why JONES? He's a tall bloke! get on the end of those gabby, ireland, bannan,n'zog, albrighton, almadi etc. balls ;)

Agree4 Disagree8

What waste of £11.5 mill, at this stage of the window we could get much more for our money, spend it in Europe and get better value. Michael if your any sort of quality scout, you will ensure this mistake never happen..Phillip is the only decent English player worth the risk that may actually want to play for villa without financially shafting us 1st

Agree2 Disagree3

Defoe is not coming to the villa hes staying at spurs also hes there only striker
