We are hearing a lot of talk about Butland being a target.
I would like to see us keep faith in Steer, he was instrumental in our run up to promotion, so I think he should be given a chance.
Also I would not be surprised to see Andre Green move on.
I get the feeling he is not what Deano wants, tends to be injury prone, and spends a lot of time in and out of games.

I don’t think green is that great to be honest. definitely think we need better for the prem. squad player at best imo.

12 Jun 2019 08:46:52
I agree with green, has one good game in 5. Age on his side though.

12 Jun 2019 11:52:25
sending green out on loan to a mid table championship side next season could benefit us, crazy thought but how about throwing him in on loan for the season in any benrahma deal, instantly replacing a player they have lost would surely sweeten any deal.

12 Jun 2019 18:47:14
Very good idea that.

11 Jun 2019 09:56:46
Hey Eds,

Read wiki page of Pablo Fornals and the current team is Aston Villa for him. Are we really after him? Medicals booked? He looks expensive.

{Ed002's Note - No., people are teasing you.}

L'Equipe are now reporting that the fee for El Ghazi was significantly less than originally reported at around 5m euros. Which in my opinion is a very good bit of business. Of course this is still unofficial and it will likely be sometime before we really know what the details of the deal are, but if true, it's another piece of very shrewd business.
I also have a 'friend of a friend' rumour that Villa are looking at signing Mings AND another established CB (I'd love Cahill for a season or two), as well as two marquee signings, one being a forward and one being a centre midfielder.
Reading between the lines it would seem they're focussed on topping up the squad with young and hungry players and putting in bigger bids to establish a solid core. Time will tell but all the signs are positive so far.
UTV.

Hi DJC, you are reiterating something that I've heard from someone who allegedly works in the football business. Apparently there is a list of 20 players who are wanted by "the club" over the next 3 transfer windows. He has also heard 4 deals are in ongoing discussions, and that others have been or are in the process of being submitted.

Only telling you what i have heard. May be BS, but based upon the performance of the club since promotion, it looks like we have a management team who mean business.

11 Jun 2019 18:58:03
Definitely feels like we actually have a strategy in place and we're working hard to give ourselves a fighting chance in the prem. Not counting any chickens just yet though.
It's also slightly fortunate timing to get promoted leading into a season that ends in a major international tournament - generally speaking it means slightly higher calibre players become available with the need for regular football to make international squads. Fingers crossed!

11 Jun 2019 20:39:50
Nothing fortunate DJC, it means slightly elevated prices as well.

11 Jun 2019 23:04:55
Hi Villadave, disagree slightly on that front as inflated prices usually follow after a major tournament has taken place rather than before it, but the point I was making was more about the increased likelihood that premiere league/ top level players who aren't currently getting regular game time will be more inclined to consider transfers this summer when trying to ensure they make international squads. Hopefully something Villa can capitalise on like I say. Fingers crossed!

12 Jun 2019 11:55:15
agree with you here DJC players on the fringe tend to want to drop to a lower team to get the game time to get that starting place. rose or chilwell at lb for England for instance rose could be open to a move to get the starting place he needs as chilwell is playing every week.

12 Jun 2019 15:13:09
Sorry DJC, I see your point now, getting old mate.

To many money grabbers on that list. Sturridge and welbeck won't be bought in for a start.

10 Jun 2019 14:40:43
I have just been watching Guilbert on you tube like somebody on here recommended.
He looks quality, gets forward, likes a tackle, and can cross a ball well.
He looks a very useful player, he is young, and judging by his last club he is also very loyal.

Let's hope he follows up the YouTube clips like el ghazi has more than tonev did.

Without sounding like a pessimist and I know in Dean we trust but if we don't sign some proven premier league quality we will struggle I'd like arter or drinkwater CM, God knows what striker need a LB and a cpl wingers GK I'd go for forster and if we don't sign tuanzebe need another CB.

Not sure how to respond to that remark Djb.
Don`t you think Deano knows what we need?
Remember that all players start and progress from novice status and some mature into great players when others don`t.
And as far as signing proven premier league players, that would not guarantee anything, N`zogbia, M Richards, J Lescott, T Cleverley spring to mind.
Deano and the club will bring in players who they feel will bond and do a job as a team, that will take time, some we buy will fit in, others won`t and we have to understand that.
We have weeks to get people in, be patient all and enjoy all the speculation it`s great fun.
You say in your post in Dean we trust, “show it then”.

10 Jun 2019 08:45:12
I quite liked Tom Cleverly Dave haha. I agree with you though mate, McCormack was proven championship, didn’t get us very far. Most of the “proven prem” players who will be available, are usually available for a reason, back end of their career, going downhill, looking for a pay day, them sort of reasons. Going and signing a load of guys like Austin for example, who are proven prem but coming to the end of their careers in the top flight will only set us up miserably in the following few seasons. Look what Burnley did when they came up, signed a few players, went back down but kept the core together then basically walked the championship went half a season unbeaten and have been prem ever since even getting Europe at one point.

I’d much prefer us to take a chance on young hungry championship and a few foreign buys that’s for the system, develop them and stick with Smith and stick with the new system no matter what. Because come one two seasons time, the players we bring in will be considered “proven prem”.

Saying that I’m guessing Drink Water is 28, I think he’d suit the number 6/ defensive mid position for us well, went all the way with Leicester so must be good in the dressing room, has just been done for drink diving so maybe attitude has soured but that’s problems for Smith and co to consider.

Just watched some videos of Guilbert
Looks like he can play a bit and loves a tackle
Got to be given a chance
Centre backs an left back priority

Guilbert axel mings amavi 😍.

I just read somewhere Marseille are in trouble with FFP, Amavi seemed to love his time here, wasn’t coached properly the whole time he was, imagine him under Smith, fits the bill perfectly!
