Think we should use this "kitty" to splash on a decent centre half and a left back its obvious we have goals in us but we made some deadly mistakes at the back this season dutch defenders have never been great and vlaar is average at best for his age. Baker is going to be a great dedender he just needs to work on his close play as he panicks when passing if he's under pressure. Clarke is pap and don't get me started on how many goals joey bennet has cost us although going forward he's looking decent. So maybe two CBs and a LB and well be strong next season given justice is served and we stay in the PL

Very sad day but highly expected news about stan petrov. Looks set for a role working with the youth team when he's well. Been a consistant player for us throughout his time here and he's the type of player we've missed since he's been gone. Big thanks and best wishes stiliyan!

Just on to wish Stan all the best in his retirement. He wore the Celtic shirt as well as the Villa, and graced it the way he did yours. He is well loved in Glasgow and we are so glad he beat that horrible disease. Good luck Stan, I don't think someone like you will need it though, a born fighter!. green jhedi

Man united fan here, just heard the news about Stiliyan Petrov. Very sad as I always liked him as a player. I hope he has a very long and happy retirement with his family and hope to see him back in the game in some way in the very near future.

This Summer taking 90k a week of the wage bill in addition Dunne's contract worth 65k a week and Petrov's 70k a week contract also expire this season meaning Villa will have 225k a week in the wage kitty
and if Villa are able to offload Given and Ireland that would be a further 160k a week freed up making a total of 385k per week for wages just think how many players Lambert could sign with that wage budget as Lambert has stated he wants the squad to get bigger as Villa have one of the smallest squads in the league
