Amidst all the doom an gloom there is an opportunity during the window to bring in some new faces. Not an attractive proposition to be playing for a team in the championship next season but a great opportunity to blood some English talent from the lower echelons to develop and come back stronger with villa to the prem. One thing villa have always done is produce England internationals and financially in this league (we are currently in) they're worth a pretty penny. It seems like a no brainer to go and do this to me.

Its a sad time for all of us but there could be an opportunity to breath some optimism and confidence back into the club, I hope remi gets the final say in recruitment. Utv.

So your in remi's position and RL as said you can spend 30-35 million to keep us in league who'd you bring in and release
Bring in - loic remy, andros townsend, kev nolan John ruddy, Sam byram
Out - Charlie, gabby, bunn, steer, Hutton, sendoros, Richardson
Recall baker and cole.

Two bibles might not go amiss, plus a manual on tactics.
Austin, Nolan ( suggested last season and got blasted), Byram and almost anyone that can catch a ball.
Not enough room to list the outs as most will go if money is offered.

Who or where as it been said he as got 30 to 35 mil to spend. I'd try and get remy on loan adebayor on a 6 month deal with option of longer if we stay up. Go for carlos kamini as new keeper and I'd take a punt on someone like huddlestone great pass on him prem experience. Rb I'd go for byran from leeds.

We should just go and pick the best of the championship. I think a lot of them would relish the chance for half a season in the PL and play their hearts out for the chance (however slim) of staying up. Players like remy and townsend won't want to come on anything other than half season loan deals which doesn't do much for the long term and there isn't much of an incentive for them to leave it all on the pitch every week. You never know, we might just grab the next Jamie Vardy.

I tend to think Andy is right here
Nolan is well past it; there is a reason nobody has gone for him
Adebayor is the last player we need in our position; I wish folk would stop mentioning him.

One thing about Townsend and remy neither are regular starters at there clubs and both want to go to euros so a trip up M1 and M6 to villa park maybe what both Villa and they need and if they play there part in our survival they may want to stay for long haul, well here hoping.

I know he's the way he is but you normaly get a good 6 months from him and he's prem proven and gets goals. I know he ain't a player you want long term or in normal conditions but we are a bit past that now and we need a gamble if we are trying to stay up. Or we give in take we are down in which case I then agree go for the best championship players we can.

04 Jan 2016 20:52:40
Sorry to sound defeatist but we are down mate. We need 4 wins just to catch up if those above didn't win a game.
Get Afobe from Wolves. He could do a job in either division.

04 Jan 2016 21:03:12
I'd not argue with that. I am grabbing away at the last bit of hope but I think we all know and accept our fate deep down. I also think afobe would be a good target. Byram as well I think would be an upgrade on what we have.

04 Jan 2016 22:13:48
Ok so if we have a bit of cash now
Id like to see us go rest of season like this then have a good go at getting back up next year

Alex McCarthy (5m)

Byrom (3m) okore clark Bennett/ amavi

Westwood gueye
Ayew. Grealish. Townsend (loan)

Afobe (8m)

Get rid of as much dead wood as poss.

I think AndyVilla is onto something. Take the best in the championship, give them half a season in prem, some might do so well we sell them on, but for all who stay, along with SOME of the current players, you go all out next season to come right back. The trouble is, just as with what got us into this mess, is that it will be Lerner's decision. If he decides he WANTS to splash, and go all-in trying to keep us in the league so as to not further devalue his investment, that's what we'll do, and then we'll pay that price next season. It's an endless loop.

For me, I think we're already down. My heart says fight till the last and buy the best but I also don't want is to make silly buys that lose us more millions that will be needed to rebuild us. For me I'd buy proven championship players now. 2 nailed on goal scorers in that division in McCormack and Rhodes, reuniting Rhodes with gestede in that league. Tom ince and Ssm Byram. I know he's unlikely to play in the championship but victor Valdes until the end of the season at least. Any money saved I'd plough into making sure we kept the likes of Traore, Okore, amavi and Gil as they would be very good a league below. I also think the likes of Lescott would be very dominant in that league. Whatever happens and whoever comes in, it hasty be with next season in mind otherwise the best players will already be at other clubs and we'll be buying expensive "wannabes" as usual.

Valdes is a great shout mate.

Thanks SPfister9, I think you make a good point too. The key is whether the board is going to be reactionary or proactive. Judging by what Lerner has done in the past he has either been very reactionary or seemingly apathetic so the outlook is pretty grim - panic buying DB9 for 24 million comes to mind, and business like that is no use in the predicament we are in. It won't keep us in the division and will leave us with players on massive wages who have no interest in playing in the championship and will probably end up leaving on the cheap just to get rid of them. Personally, I think we need to be proactive and ensure we bounce back at the first opportunity, which means we need to use our 6 month advantage and poach some of the best the championship has to offer, blood some youth, and get a squad gelled and playing Garde's system. That should leave us with less work to do than our rivals in the summer, and put us several steps ahead of the competition as we will be putting the gloss on the team and not doing major overhauls. Plus you never know, an injection of hungry players with a point to prove may just see us pull off the greatest miracle the premier league has ever seen.
