So Big Ben has made it clear in a fake interview that he has his heart set on leaving, and has already spoken to Liverpool.
I hope he does well, wish him luck, and thank him for his goals and effort.
But. The king is dead, so long live the king.

I hope it's 20-25m plus, with lambert thrown in.
I then hope that the club is proactive and invest quick and wisely. My shout is Charlie Austin.
Austin and lambert up front would be great, for club and country.

I now offer an apology to all of you, as I as I'm sure you have have been angry since sat.
I've vented at fellow fans and that's not on.
All I want is us to be positive, constructive, but let's all pull together.

This negativity expressed in these pages is contagious, and poisonous. We need to flush it out.
Some our even posting how we are Defo relegated this season.
Let's be honest, we go in to a season thinking this, it will prob happen.

In life you constantly get accused of some thing, or blamed for something, when you haven't done it, I genuinely believe subconsciously you think, well f**k it, they are convinced it's going to happen, so you give into it, and it happens!
Let's be a glass half full club!!

As much as I agree with your message of positivity I highly doubt that in the Monday morning meeting after the final, Sherwood sat the players down and read them the confidence shattering comments on this site.

However I have never really got the philosophy of 'the glass'. To me a glass can only be described as half full if you have started with an empty glass and filled it half way up (progress). To call the glass half empty suggests the glass was once full and half of it was spilled or poured away (regression). We would certainly fall under the glass half empty definition, but the most important thing to remember is the goal is always to fill the glass no matter where you have started from, and it can always go both ways. The mind set should not to be blindly positive or negative but to have a sighted goal and to for an effective plan of achieving it. I like to think of it in terms of a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats)where we understand how full our glass is (Strengths and Weaknesses), realise Opportunities to fill the glass, and detect Threats likely to further empty our glass.

As I believe I was one of those who alluded to relegation next season if Benteke leaves (Benteke leaving is a definite Threat in my eyes to the relative fullness of our glass) I did add the caveat of 'if he is not properly replaced'. If we sell him for the reported, yet unsubstantiated 32.5 million and we spot the Opportunity to sign both Ings and Austin our glass in theory should be fuller than before as the team should be a stronger entity than before.

Having glanced at some of the comments sections of various articles the fans here seem almost cheerful. I've seen people commenting that Sherwood should be sacked right now, we should sell Benteke, Guzan, Delph, Vlaar (All our best players), not even consider signing Cleverley because its rumoured he's speaking with Everton (Has he no right to assess his options?) and a whole host of negativity including one gem claiming Cissokho should be sold because 'he couldn't cross a ball into the ocean from the beach'.

Sorry for the long winded (and probably nonsensical) post but I just thought I'd throw my two pence in.

Got to say, I love your glass analogy!!
I would love ings and Austin, but do think it will be one or the other.

The main gripe I have is the slagging off of players.
Was never there fault we signed them. Abs at this moment, they are all we have.
I'm not saying we blindly follow. But a little support would go a long way.
Prime example, Bennett, he got booed in the pitch, by his own fans. No wonder he lost in confidence.
As a player else where, to hear that you would think you had already won! Then there is the fact that why would you sign for a club, knowing one mistake will result in your own fans turning on you!

Your absolutely right Flackie, if players from lesser leagues are given the opportunity to play in the premier league they are right to jump at the chance. Its up to the manager to ensure they can make the step up. With Bennett, he is not the best defender and certainly not premiership quality, but its the same scenario as Bacuna - they are wingers playing in defence. It doesn't take a genius to see Bennett is not physical enough to be a premiership defender in a team that needs to rely a lot on their defence. But he showed a lot of promise when he was allowed to go forward. That's why I think Sherwood will not make any rash decisions regarding the playing staff who have been out on loan and assess them in pre season.

What I find the most annoying though is not the air of negativity or attitude towards the players but how Sherwood is being treated. People in comments referring to him as TimTim, Nice but Tim, Timmy etc, just come across as derogatory and ungrateful. let's not forget that under Lambert we never looked like turning our form around so its fair to say Sherwood kept us up. It looked worse towards the end because every other team down the bottom turned it on as well - just look at Leicester.

Can't help reflecting on our last two games. What happened to the coaching for those rubbish performances?
I wait for new owners and to se if they want TS to stay in the role.
The evidence suggests that the players play the way that they want to play or TS is failing.
Nothing has been proved yet. The improvement could be down to new manager syndrome then lapsing back.
The rats are leaving the ship. TS will have to work miracles to get any quality players to sign for us.
This is not negative thinking but trying to assess the situation that is before us.

Oldvillan - its hard to argue that the last few games have been anything other than dire but there is a reason why Sherwood is the manager as the board decided he was the best candidate available. If Sherwood is sacked we aren't going to get Klopp or Ancelotti, so it will be mostly the same names in the frame again. If a takeover doesn't happen fairly early on in the window, we are going to struggle to have the time to do all the business we need to anyway and a newly instated manager will have a very limited time frame to assess our situation and decide who needs to go and who to bring in. I would hope that any new owners would realise this and give Sherwood a chance.

Apparently when Newcastle sacked Jonas Gutierrez, John Carver couldn't be arsed to do it in person and did it over the phone. Probably on Mike Ashley's orders. Almost makes Lerner look good.

If I was Sherwood, I'd take a punt on Gutierrez, he'd be free, cheap wages and although he isn't the best technically he would make a good squad player and he'd put he effort in every game he'd get.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - That wasn't all, Andy, Carver was on the phone to Ryan Taylor, who was in Belfast doing a coaching course, telling him he was being released and then asked him to pass the phone to Gutierrez who was also on the course and told him he was being released as well.}

03 Jun 2015 22:32:00
I find Newcastle, as a whole club, an embarrassment.
To treat their fans the way they do, can we really be shocked that they treat their players this way.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - hardly a surprise, when Gutierrez was in recovery they tried to kick him out the club then!}

03 Jun 2015 22:46:31
Thooking disgrace.

(See what I did there editor?!)

They lost all neutral fans. Days gone by we all wanted them to be our second team. I wished they had gone down.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - A lot of people wanted them to go down this season.}

04 Jun 2015 06:37:47
Its just insulting - after ensuring their safety on the last day of the season and they can't even make an individual phone call to sack him, let alone speak to him in person. And Carver thinks he is the best Coach in the premiership.

Although you can't knock him as a manager Mourinho seems like a petty and unpleasant personality, but he made sure that an extra winners medal was sent to Andre Schurrle and called him personally to congratulate him on his performances that season, even though he was sold in January.

Its not that hard to show a bit of class.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Newcastle have turned into Sports Direct FC, sadly. Ashley treats it exactly the same, all about taking money and treating everyone, especially his staff, like idiots.}

Its was Gutierrez that kept them in the prem, last game set up first goal and scored 2nd, then released. What a thank you!

I'm not saying they were under any obligation to give him a new contract if they didn't want him out of sentiment, but at least discuss it in person and thank him properly for his service.

List of players I see going out:
Weiman
Lowton
Luna
Sylla
Cissokho
Vlaar
Benteke
Zog
Senderos
Given or guzan

I think Westwood and Sanchez are very average, with cleverly signing for another club and our distinct lack of full backs aswell as limited firepower with benteke leaving its going to be one heck of a busy summer for the club!

Players I'd like to see in:
Trippier Burnley
Roberston hull
Dembele spurs
Ayew Marseille
Sertic Bordeaux
Austin qpr
Phillips qpr
Dos Santos Villarreal
Another keeper (Brentford keeper?)
Another center half

I think Sherwood will try and dispose of the following, as he will need to sell to bolster his presumably limited transfer budget.

Gil - He doesn't seem to rate him
Sanchez - only uses him as a late sub
Cissokho - Prefers attacking wingers
Weimann - Seems out of favour

The players away on loan (Sylla, Bennett, Luna, Helenius, Tonev et al) I think he will want to look at them in pre season as they might just fit well with his philosophy. Same goes for Kozak and Senderos as he hasn't had the chance to see them in action.

I think a few will go but not as many as some people are suggesting - hence his 'we need to change the (losing) mentality of some of the ones we've got speech.

The weaknesses have been described well here, but I don't see the of needlessly buying players. Gil shouldn't be forgotten and Sanchez is a pretty good enforcer.

If Benny stays, I'd like to see money spent on a quality goal scorer who can partner him.

So let's not get sentimental over the FA Cup or other results, remember, we were 3 points from being a Championship side. Under Sherwood at the tail end of the season we've had some great results, West Brom, Liverpool. West Ham and Spurs. At the same time, including the FA Cup. Burnley and Southampton, we shipped in 11 goals. I have to be honest, I've been watching the FA Cup final since I was a kid, and to my memory. That was the most one sided cup final I can remember, and that's a lot of cup finals.

I'm not inclined to let Timbo off the hook so easy. He picked the side and it never looked like a side that could compete against Arsenal . Grealish, Cleverley and Zoggy in midfield with Westwood behind them was a joke. The only true competitor in the middle of the park was Delph, and it wasn't his best of days either. I love Grealish's potential but he's ,19 and he ain't there yet. Zoggy has always been one good game one lousy game at the best. I'm not saying we should be won. But I'm am saying we should've made a fist of it!

to be fair i can't think of a team involving any of our players that wouldn't have got battered, only player that i thought had a half decent game was richardson,

im yet to see nzogbia play a good game in a villa shirt

I agree with bigc.
That midfield was terrible. Why didn't we play Ronald's, bale and messie?

Oh yeah, I remember, THAT IS ALL WE HAVE!!

The best thing to do is to stop dwelling on the final and judging or players solely on that game. Everything conspired against us, Arsenal were on fire, they had virtually no injuries to the squad, Sherwoods tactics could have been better (although options were limited), and the players collectively had an off day. When we were getting the good results Delph and Cleverley were running constantly, driving the midfield forward, and dropping deep to defend, plus creating most of the play. And Delph was rightly lauded by some as the best English midfielder around. But that style of play must be very draining on players and not a sustainable way of playing for a whole season. let's see who Sherwood sells and buys and maybe we will see him more prepared to adjust tactics mid game as he trusts all the players at his disposal to play his way.

Cleverley is the new Ray Wilkins. Worth keeping if the price's right.

If only to sell him on in January and make a profit.

So it looks like mr Cleverley wants to be reunited with Martinez at everton. if he thinks he can do better than he has at villa then he can p**s off, second rated player anyway.

The last thing we need is to get into a bidding war with other teams and put him on inflated wages - let's let Sherwood make his own signings instead.
