I'm not being negative but I am just keen to find out if people think RDM is the manager to take us forward if we do get promoted back into the premier league?

Regarding getting players out it is a lot harder to get players out than just wanting them to go, I think a few players will leave some who we want to go and others we perhaps don't want to leave but that's football!

I am a believer we should have had out squad ready by now, i say this because if we have a few bad results at the start of the season a lot of fans are going to say it's the same old rubbish as last season! And as a supporter a big worry is that if we do lose a few a lot of people will stay away from the club again!

31 Jul 2016 23:58:40
Is it even possible to begin to make a judgement of the man before the season has even kicked off?

All we know is that he has some experience of managing in the premier league and was able to win a Champions League so he must have got something right.

01 Aug 2016 07:06:09
Judge him on what so far?

01 Aug 2016 07:11:33
Didnt he get west brom out of this league?

01 Aug 2016 09:03:49
As Flackie says, there is nothing to judge him on so far as all the pre-season stuff is just that - testing the water. As I think I have said before, by the time the window closes, we will have played 5 games and, if we lose all of them, I may be slightly more judgemental as our promo hopes would largely be over but, until then, with the knowledge and experience of both RDM and Clarke, I am optimistic that things will come good. But then I am a glass-half-full type of bloke.

31 Jul 2016 13:20:54
I've said it before and I'll say it again we will not win league or get promoted with current t squad not a chance in hell we need a goal scorer and a rb also a quality cm then I think need Clark bacuna gabby lescot gone if rdm rely on same players as who have caused us no end of problem for past few seasons we will struggle again I know it's early days but how long can he afford to wait before other teams snap up decent exp players my gut feeling is we may make play offs if lucky just my opinion as we're all in titled to it but I'll be there week in week out as always supporting them no matter what but please gabby has to go he has more cards than goals and that says it all no 2nd chances let him go.

31 Jul 2016 13:28:07
Your right, you said it many times before.
Yawn.

31 Jul 2016 13:44:09
Flakie what are your views then u as your views are like u and interesting.

31 Jul 2016 14:05:10
i completley agree with those comments djb371977 not negative its true and the truth does hurt some people i wish we was a great football team i really do but fact is we are not iam worried soon as a goal goes in the heads drop an they allow there selfs to cave in. but the facts are we are in a awful league and with the confidence up after a few wins we might be ok i pray to god we are!

31 Jul 2016 14:34:26
Has the transfer window closed and I missed it?
Has the season started and I missed that?
Are you privy to the boardroom and what is happening at vp behind the media?

Why give some one the job, if you want allow them to
A) do it
B) make their decisions
C) trust them

Ffs grow a pair, man up and be patient.
It's boring, counter productive and stupid to constantly post read same crap.

31 Jul 2016 14:52:23
And not banter!

31 Jul 2016 15:26:54
The transfer window isn't closed yet and there are no reports coming out of the club saying we have stopped looking for players - so what's the problem? I would rather them take their time and make the right deals than rush in blindly and be left with the bomb squad 2.0.

31 Jul 2016 15:36:18
Totally agree but we were all slagging current squad off for past few seasons minus new additions and now all of a sudden they been forgiven and give a 2nd chance come on lads be honest we all wanted bomb squad gone back then what's changed are they all gona prove us wrong and be amazing hhmmmn I doubt it as we've all seen before the bomb squad of bacuna Westwood lescott guzan Hutton Clarke gabby nzogbia just wasn't cutting it and gave away too many individual mistakes costing us dearly they won't change and need shipping out end of! New lads that have came in seem decent just need to ship out dead wood recruit more and go on from there so flakie do 1 as we're all behind team manager and board no 1 is moaning at them just stating a fact that the deadwood ain't good enough have no heart and req moving on end of flakie pants.

31 Jul 2016 15:55:19
You beat me to it Flackie and AndyVilla
We all knew that RDM had a massive job on his hands after the mess left by Lerner
Some of this lot on here would be badgering and moaning at their other halves if they were 3 months into a pregnancy with still no sign of the little fellah
It's going to take some time. Bitching because Gabby is still here is not going to help
I don't believe as fans that we should be cheerleaders who applaud the club whatever they do; far from it. However, if you are going to criticise, do it after taking into account the landscape Xia and RDM are working in
What really makes me laugh is when some mention how the players heads drop quite easily (there is some truth in that) but then turn into the harbingers of doom about a season where we clearly have not finished our squad overhaul and where a ball has not been kicked in anger.

31 Jul 2016 17:22:58
Pretty much our entire squad is 'deadwood' but we can't sell them all. We have already let Guzan go for free even though his contract wasn't up and we can't start doing that for every player we want gone as it just doesn't make financial sense. RDM is going to have to work with a lot of last years squad so its down to him to put together a system he's comfortable with and judge where we need strengthening the most and who doesn't fit the new system. Bear in mind the parachute payments are to help relegated teams cover the running costs of premier league club in the championship until they can fully transition and not to blow on buying players, so we can afford him the time to do it right.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. When Lerner came in he had ambitions and spent large sums of money on players and put them on big contracts. You can point to O'Neill but ultimately its the man with the money who authorizes that kid of spending. And then he lost interest and that's why we are where we are today. I would rather Xia keep his money in his pockets for now and overhaul on a budget to a point where the club is sustainable without huge Lerner like levels of investment that the owner won't see back.

I think what we are crying out for though is one big marquee striker. A signing to get the fans on side, and to bolster belief in the dressing room that if we concede we can get back in the game. You see it with players like Bale for Wales and Suarez at Liverpool how having that one special player can make a bang average team perform much better than it should on paper.

31 Jul 2016 17:48:06
Flackie pants?! Lol

All behind owner and manager? How? You question their team selection, and their recruitment policy.

People are even calling for him to be sacked! And to get potato head in.

But your right. Onwards and upwards!

31 Jul 2016 19:59:34
Their idiots flakie who want him sacked idiots I say. I believe given time he and Tony xia will have us going the right way just don't want deadwood ruining things but if rdm can change them then I'd be happy with that.

31 Jul 2016 20:06:24
Dare I say what No9 we should move heaven and earth to get back to calm the storm that's brewing on here.?

UTV.

31 Jul 2016 20:15:08
Djb3711977 spot on!
And I totally agree with that.

31 Jul 2016 20:26:52
Who ever we get need to have championship exp I'd say charlie austin or Danny inngs both won't be starters for their clubs.

31 Jul 2016 20:29:42
Then cm I'd like Alan judge or will hughes then there is Robbie Brady too.

01 Aug 2016 00:05:43
Oh dear me the message isn't clear is it! Players need time to Gel and the clock is ticking matter what anyone says. Se needed change but there hasn't and won't be enough. Sorry but only my oppinion.

31 Jul 2016 12:17:22
Question time for you villa fans so far based purely on action an no talking how pleased are you with our chairman?

31 Jul 2016 12:27:22
very it takes time to do it right.

31 Jul 2016 12:29:07
I don't think he has done anything wrong so far, however I don't think he has done anything that has really excited me for this upcoming season.

31 Jul 2016 12:30:46
I turn that around as ask you one thing.
What do you really expect?
Take your rose coloured glasses off and look at things with logic and a realistic approach.

I'm happy the man is here to turn our club around. Like you I'm disappointed this took longer than the five minutes half you guys gave him.

31 Jul 2016 13:34:12
you asked my view so i will give it mate i don't see any change at all from last season now i don't know the championship and it might be good enough to play like that an go up but on the pitch which it really matters it was exactly the same as last season. in regards to our chairman only time will tell mate he says the right things so iam happy there its just on the pitch where it needs to turn around! Maybe his good maybe his not but i agree we can't just throw money at things but let me tell you aston villa got beat up pretty bad last season players confidence is still at a all time low an the fans is very low aswel. a guy said to me yesturday simply i just want to stop losing everyweek! now its the chairman an the manager are the only ones who can help us so iam still judging them both but so far i think they could of done more in the way of transfers but they is still time and i know its not going to be easy i do belive we have a top 8 team at present but if confidence gets better maybe top 6 but we need help!

31 Jul 2016 15:44:20
I'm impressed with the staff appointments, I thought we would struggle to get anyone with a half decent reputation to take us on so the Doc's vision for the club must have impressed RDM.

I would have liked a few more ins and outs at this stage but its understandable as we are not the most attractive club for players at the moment and most of our players were abject last season which makes then difficult to shift. But saying that I am not overly concerned as I would rather see them take their time, get the right players in and move the right ones on, than rush in blindly and make a total hack job of it. The money has obviously been available to RDM as he's made signings without significant money coming in from player sales.

Ultimately he hasn't done anything to shake my confidence so far, but he should take a break from twitter.

31 Jul 2016 16:38:37
I think it's a ridiculous question to even be asking at this stage Mrknowitall
You need some other things in your life mate. You are obsessing
Take the missus away for a romantic weekend, go to the cinema, read a book, learn a foreign language, take up the guitar or go into the forest with a drum, take the dog for a long walk. In fact, just do anything that will keep you away from posting on here.

31 Jul 2016 16:39:30
p. s I agree with Andy Villa. Xia could do with giving Twitter a rest.

31 Jul 2016 17:56:39
everybody has the same right to views on here you an flackie trying to bully people is pathetic the facts are villa are crap and fans who pay good money have right to there say when we start playing well we won't be negative but when we are all paying good money an we are getting served up rubbish people will moan season starts next week sheff wed ent going to wait for us to get players there gona try an beat us! BULLYING PEOPLE TELLING THEM WHAT THEY CAN AN CANNOT WRITE IS PATHETIC DO U EVEN GO ALL THE GAMES!

31 Jul 2016 18:31:42
WHILST I AGREE WITH YOU MR. KNOW. IT. ALL THAT YOU CAN POST ANYTHING YOU WANT AND PEOPLE SHOULDN'T TELL YOU NOT TO POST, I CAN'T BELIEVE I HAVE TO POST THIS AGAIN ON THIS SITE.

BEING ABLE TO GO TO ALL THE GAMES DOESN'T MAKE YOU ANY MORE OF A FAN THAN THOSE WHO CAN'T. GET OVER YOURSELF.

I hope you don't mind me borrowing your all caps to make my post more valid ;)

31 Jul 2016 18:52:17
And who is it, in literary terms, with all your exclamation marks, capital letters and bad grammar, that sounds more like someone trying to bully?
You need to look a bit closer to home mate.
You seem to enjoy expressing your opinions enough (which is fair enough as far as I am concerned) but don't take kindly to people disagreeing with you.
You also can't spot when someone is actually joking with you
You need to grow up and get some counselling for that persecution complex of yours.

31 Jul 2016 19:43:37
I won't justify my passion and or support to you!
The fact you keep throwing it in, means your trying to make a point, that I'm missing!

And once again your capital letters, raising your voice! Obviously this must mean you are correct, and we all bow down to your superior knowledge, and great support of this failing fallen giant.
Why do we bother? we should all throw the towels in and bow to your greater expertise.

31 Jul 2016 20:42:19
Gonna answer the original question. I think Dr Tony is working hard on making 'Brand Villa' to create revenue, that's fair enough, hopefully leaving RDM to deal with football matters, there's got to be something big coming because we've barely put a dent in the £30-£50M that's been talked about, it's going to go to the last hours of the window and hopefully we're going to be blown away, that's what I'm holding on to

UTV.

31 Jul 2016 21:42:13
I'd settle for being reasonably happy Allp1972. We'll see soon enough .
I doubt we will spend anywhere near 50 mill. My guess is 2-3 new additions before the end of the August window, with a bit kept in reserve for January when we may need to plug some holes.

01 Aug 2016 21:27:09
Answer to the question; Dr has pontificated, made claims, and puffed his chest out. I will turn Villa into BARCAVILLA he shouts, we will spend £30 or £50 million who knows, he said! He certainly got me excited but as the weeks drag on I sense an air of inevitability about his claims, its becoming clear his sales pitch is very good, but the back up is hollow kind of like a Peter promiser! let's face it we need a new and very strong spine to the team for us to challenge and aside from 3 decent new guys the spine is still wanting, in other words he hasn't delivered the goods with only days to go before kick off and the chance for us to make a statement! I am quite disheartened and low because unless we smash the Window to bits before it closes by making some mega deals i worry for our beautiful old club. In a word disappointed "so far with the Doc.

31 Jul 2016 09:50:00
Looking at yesterday's match, I've come to this conclusion.

Our play still lacks genuine belief. This I think is because either consciously, or unconsciously we don't think we will score, either because there is no great trust in the ability of the strikers, or because of the last season.

This creates two problems,
1) you are not incisive enough when on ball, ie no killer cross/ ball as you don't trust in the outcome
2) you try not to be the fall guy that gives the ball away, so no crosses, or when they come they are to late, and half hearted

We are desperate for a player to lead the line that the players trust, a benteke, Carew, we are sitting on the same problem we always have, from goalkeeper, (ignoring last year) to midfield we are fine, but it's the final third we lack, again.

Once they believe there is someone to put the ball in the net, the whole attitude will change, when they think that a decent cross results in a goal, or at the least an attempt on goal, they will be more likely to do it.
Right now they feel, that a cross, or attacking forward pass, results in giving the ball, possession away, leading to pressure and conceding.
Thus leaving our defence at odds, out of position, and scared.

Conclusion.
RDM buy a goal scorer. Someone that not only the supporters will love, but the rest of the squad will trust.
I pray for Big Ben. But I know there is no real chance!

31 Jul 2016 12:28:41
the team is crying out for a finisher and adama if we can keep him fit.

31 Jul 2016 13:23:01
Need a goal scorer definitely unless one of young lads fill the void and shock us all also need 1 or 2 decent exp cm and a rb loose dead wood too.

31 Jul 2016 07:50:53
Jon Flannagan rumoured to be available on loan. Would love to see him at Villa Park (hopefully when Richards leaves) .

31 Jul 2016 08:15:00
Going to burnley.

31 Jul 2016 06:48:26
It looks like wolves are close to signing talicsa on sky sports 18 mil . canr beleive that so that's maybe anither team challenging to get promoted the championship going to be good this season could be better then premier league . hope we sign a striker b4 our first game against sheff wed.

31 Jul 2016 00:57:31
anyone looked into the fosun group who have bought wolves. sre they considerly more wealthy than us. ie have they more money than villas recon group.

31 Jul 2016 01:17:30
I hate that that football is all about money now days it makes me sick that's all people talk about now days aswel its not like the player quality is even better what happend to playing for the shirt an the love of the game? you don't always need money look at leciester we need team spirt.

31 Jul 2016 09:20:28
there is no true info on the net on recons wealth. trust me we can compete money is not a problem.

31 Jul 2016 09:36:10
Sorry kingvilla but I believe your completely wrong, I don't believe we have much money at all an I also believe what we do spend will be from parachute payments

Non of us will know though till transfer window shuts.

31 Jul 2016 09:56:50
see if you can find all of mansors buisnesses dealings and true wealth the man city owner. he is estimated worth 20 billion but no true facts on him about. now I'm not saying xia is worth that sort of money as he's not but he is a multi billionaire and the money is there. what's the point in rushing in for any old player just to spend money if it's not the right ones that rdm wants. then he gets sack as we fail and stuck with more Deadwood . it takes time guys and even more so now we are in the championship. we will get the players in and we will go back up . utv.

31 Jul 2016 10:23:23
Can we get this straight. If Bill Gates owned Villa, we would not be the wealthiest club in the world; we would be a football club with a wealthy owner. If you don't understand the significance of the difference between the two positions, thinking is clearly not your strong point.

31 Jul 2016 11:04:36
Can we also get this straight. Even if we had all the money in the world.
We are now a championship club, we have to act/ buy/ invest accordingly.
The best players in the world would struggle in this league. It's an endurance championship. Not a skill one.
It's built on team ethos, and an ability to endure and keep going not to have flashes of skill and enigmas.
Money does not win this league,
Skill does not win this league,
Fitness, togetherness, and desire win this league.
It's who wants it most, not who can afford it.

31 Jul 2016 12:35:57
God me mendax and flackie agreeing lol. joking aside though as the 3 of us have said it takes time to do it right guys so give xia and rdm and all the team time to get the right deals over the line then it will gel and we will be fine. xia has invested his money in our club so give the guy a chance and concentrate on supporting the team guys.

31 Jul 2016 16:27:31
sorry Flackie beg to differ best players would walk that league you talk rubbish sometimes.

31 Jul 2016 18:46:26
Got to agree with villajk on this one Flackie. When you factor in the mid week champions league/ europa league games and add on top of that tournaments like the euros and the world cup, that will easily make up for the extra games you have to play in the championship season. Griezmann made over 60 apps this season across all comps.

31 Jul 2016 00:51:07
Watched the game today, honestly think the whole system needs a rethink . Hutton and Sissoko two honest workers, but caught out time and again upfield out of position. Why not look at Leicester system, defenders who do just that . You don't see them caught out, by counter attacks with no defence . We definitely need at least one winger, to put people on the back foot by running at them, & getting crosses in . With a solid back 4, it would release one of the holding midfield . Ayew has to be pushed more advanced, whether you can play him and Jack together I don't know, both doing the same job . Top priority has to be a striker, a top striker who knows where the net is . We don't know what RDT and the Dr, have up their sleeves but I hope it's good . Onward and Upward VFE.
