Now the dust has settled and we are all no longer feeling deflated, let's discuss last night with a clear head. In my opinion it was a carbon copy of every other game this season, didn't take anywhere near enough of them and then crumbled in the final minutes. Now my first point:

Gollini is still a huge Question mark, he made good saves against Newcastle but last night he made a huge mistake for their goal, and working it out I'm sure he's now cost us 7 points and made 4 mistakes, is it now time to take action? Subs bench and give Steer a chance?

Point 2:

The defence on the whole is solid, other than Bristol we haven't been shakey as a defence until after the 80th minute, the only common theme is that when we are sitting back, all players clinging on edge of the box for dear life we can't not concede. That tells me we can't defend as a team, when we all go back it's over crowded, unorganised and clumsy so we end up giving space/ making mistakes. So we have two options A train hard on how to defend as a team and keep a shape and understand responsibilities when we're penned in every man behind the ball or B don't get penned in, keep our shape and look to break.

And finally point 3:

We need to pick our front 3 and stick to it, to me it would be kodja McCormack and ayew, the first two seem to already have a decent understanding and I don't think you can take ayew out the team at the moment!

We have to look for the positives and ignore the noses, we're 5 games unbeaten and look a good attacking team for 80 minutes in a game. Now let's get the last 10 right and climb up that table! UTV!

Agree about steer.

28 Sep 2016 22:49:33
Think Steer deserves a shot, Bunn is a bit of a nightmare and Steer hasn't been given the opportunity to show his worth! (Sorry about the long post just wanted to be constructive for once)

29 Sep 2016 00:43:51
chris, i fully agree with you mate. its worring times again if we can't win a football mate we could go down i dnt fink we will but at the momment we can't winc4 toffee we was awful at barnsley 1st half was crap an 2nd was only just better i don't think they can develop a good understanding if the manager keeps changing formation every week.

also his slow making decisions everybody could see at grelish was having a nightmare in yet some how he kept him on to be honest if we don't beat preston he should be sacked!

28 Sep 2016 23:21:18
That's a great post Chris.

29 Sep 2016 08:39:08
Totally agree Chris - For me the front 3 picks itself - Are we trying too hard to accommodate Grealish I wonder? And does this impact our midfield which was overran again last night?

I wouldn't be so quick to drop Gollini however - I think he is very raw but there is a good goalkeeper in there, I'm sure of it - I recall United fans being very concerned about DeGea initially - I think he will come good but I understand your point, do we have the luxury of waiting - Perhaps not.

I think we have been extremely unlucky at times this year - We should really have 4-6 more points on the board. A win is coming and that could be the turning point - Wishful thinking :-)?

29 Sep 2016 09:40:34
Some good points Chris we all seem to agree with you on them.
However, for me you missed out the one overriding reason why we are not either killing teams off OR defending right to the bitter end. The midfield.

29 Sep 2016 13:07:59
Cheers lads and I was going to include a point about the midfield but the post was getting very long. I think our problem with the midfield is Tshibola is our only decent midfielder at the moment on current form. Jedinak hasn't really started the way we would have expected, Westwood still isn't good enough at this level and Gardner seems to try too hard to impress. And the fact I've only spoke about midfielders is worrying because that's all we have, would love us to sign someone like Tom Huddlestone, can getup and down the pitch for ninety minutes and has the experience.

28 Sep 2016 21:57:48
It's not just us who can't defend leads!

28 Sep 2016 11:09:41
Say a team are playing lousy, manager gets the sack, new one comes in and says the slate is wiped clean and everyone starts from scratch. he then picks a player who the fans dislike, what do they do?

They know the new manager must see something they don't, but we don't like the guy, but what happens is we get behind the manager and trust his judgement (begrudgingly); sound familiar?

So don't be surprised if our friendly neighbourhood pantomime villain, the Gabster is named as a sub at some point or other, we just got to let it play out for the greater good!

28 Sep 2016 12:25:55
Forward line isn't our problem So I don't think we'll be seeing Agbonlahor again thank God.
Our problem is in midfield . We are too lightweight too nice. We are unable to dominate teams and take any game by the scruff of the neck.
Given the right service our forwards will score loads. Given the right protection our defence will hold out much more often until matches are finished.

We got a point away to barnsley, we beat preston at the weekend; that's 4 out of 6 points. the main thing is we aren't losing games, a little work on controlling the last segment of a game and then that should be the jigsaw looking pretty.

let's give it a big push for rdm and the boys and things might just turn in our favour. i'm happier to be talking about getting a draw, than a defeat, so roll on preston, our season starts now!

28 Sep 2016 20:39:52
It's mad. But I'm going to follow you on this one mate. Purely for the hell of it.

29 Sep 2016 00:20:07
You must have been on the wine, i know i have! see what the club is doing to me, i was so distraught the other day i caught myself half listening to what the old lady was saying!

28 Sep 2016 10:41:38
how mad has the world become when i'm on here defending rdm. it's a midweek away game, a good result i think. keep the faith.

28 Sep 2016 10:36:10
Where do I start after last nights shambles. rdm has to sacked enough is enough., if you looked at last nights team how many players would be definite starters, starting at the back including the goal keeper out of the 5 maybe chester all the other positions are up for grabs, midfield tish, nobody else, so you are depending on formation for another 2/ 3 players . upfront you can choose from about 6/ 7 without the likes of green and Rushian, you would be lucky to have 4 possibly five definates, after spending 50 million and playing 11 games it is a joke, at the start of the season I wanted Young players who we could develop like tish who could play in the premiership, the chances of that now are very slim, so like before we are going to be left with old, slow players on long contracts and good salaries who are going to get no better like elphick and jedinak, the only thing we can do know is to get a new manager, get villa park a fortress again so we do not attend with home crowds of 20/ 25 thousand, win some away games and maybe win from coming behind and hopefully Finnish top 10, but as I have said before get rushian on a contract Asap, the manager for me is from Brentford . up the villa surely it can not get any worse .

28 Sep 2016 09:40:46
Would anyone consider giving Jed steer a chance? Did he do that bad for Huddersfield last year?

28 Sep 2016 08:38:46
If your at work and your manager tells you to do something and you don't who's fault is it?

28 Sep 2016 10:44:37
Yours.

28 Sep 2016 10:14:34
Thats easy, whoever voted for Brexit.

28 Sep 2016 01:41:05
people say i say the same thing well obv course i do because we keep making the same mistakes! rdm has got to go big sam all day 4 me.

28 Sep 2016 07:12:30
Big sam won't come so forget about that.

28 Sep 2016 08:36:31
So you would like a manager that's never done nothing and corrupt? Dear o dear get a bloody grip.

28 Sep 2016 09:45:37
I expect David 'one-point-from-six-games' Moyes will come available shortly so I expect there will be a renewed clamoring for his services from the 'any port in a storm' brigade shortly.

28 Sep 2016 10:17:36
Somehow, i don't think dr. tony wants to be associated with a money grabbing, underhanded, selfish, self-loving, arrogant piece of work. we got enough of those on the squad as it is!

28 Sep 2016 00:03:26
Just an observation, we obviously are always going to concede late on, we have enough history to prove this, in order for us to win, good proactive management would go for the second goal when we are leading. Tonites substitutions tried to defend a one goal lead we can't do this. Stating the obvious one win is equal to three draws so play the percentages game, RDM needs to adopt an approach to get healthy leads when we are in front like tonite, we will get more points with this approach.

28 Sep 2016 10:23:46
Can't disagree with you there hopeful, i think rdm must have a reason why he persists with the one goal, circle the wagons routine. i just hope against preston away we nail it down to the mast properly, because it's the lads lack in concentration is the obvious issue here. so make them do ballet at the training ground in front of all the press each time they balls it up. guarantee that'll get them focusing!
