So we have had a bid accepted for Tom Cleverley. I'm not saying that he is a bad player because I think he does have some good qualities and he is better than some of the midfielders we currently have. But £8 million for him?That is a lot of money for someone who has been injured the last couple of seasons. I think that the £8 million could of been spent on a different player. But you never know he may prove me wrong and end up being worth loads and becoming an England regular.

Yeah agree 8 mill is a lot. However when you see price of players. Livermere was 8 million and Shane long 12 it's what price you pay for half decent players

Imagine we could go back to yesterday and imagine I asked the question " what do you think of Cleverley at Man United? "
I doubt many would respond with "he's quality. Would be a snip at 8 million"
Put it in perspective. Alonso has just signed at Bayern for 5 million

You're right Mendax, Alonso "seems" a bargain, but £5m doesn't tell the whole story. Can you imagine Alonso's wages compared to Tom Cleverley? I'd guess Alonso's wages are probably 5 if not 6 times those of TC. I think we have to consider what a particular package cost is of a player. It's not transfer fees that kill a club, it's the wages.

Agreed Dru, but let's face it. With regard to the cost of Alonso, we'd have a 3 million quid headstart
However you cut it, Cleverly at 8 million is a bad buy

Again Mendax you sum up the situation perfectly.
We need a thoroughbred not a workhorse.

Thoughts on the supposed 8mil bid for Cleverley? Only a Telegraph rumour but something to take our minds away from last night.

Ok people with benteke out who gna get goals I no for shure it want be bent pice s*** and we wudnt even get half the money bk for him just sack him bring bk that young dutch striker last pre season smashed it then did get a chance

Say what? Love it how people forget he saved us the season we bought him. his goals kept us up. he hasn't been given games to get him back to match fitness and didn't he score a couple in pre season

Bent "saving us" is ancient history and not even factually correct. Football is a team game, remember?
Regardless, Bent's powers have dipped dramatically since then. He doesn't get game time here or didn't at Fulham because when he does he shows nothing
No room for sentiment in football. We need him gone and a worthy replacement brought in
