where is all this downing stuff coming from? Am I missing something/ The guy said he wanted to put his contract talks on hold just before Mcleish was appointed. As far as I know he hasn't said a word since. Has he said he wants to leave? Just after the season ended, I heard him say he was happy here. Suddenly Liverpool have some money and we understand they want Downing and have a divine right to get him just cos they are Liverpool. They were not much better than us last year and we had 4 managers, even Man U would have struggled to cope with that and I recall us totally outplaying Man U, Liverpool and Chelsea at villa Park and Arsenal at the Emirates so we ain't that bad. I am just sick to death of journos and Agents stirring things up for the benefit of the so-called big 4, and we seem to be an easy target. I think we should deny Downing his move, even if he wants it. 1 good season is not enough for me for a player who cost 12 million 2 seasons ago, and was crocked for the first 6 months. He owes us another season at least. The grass is not always greener Stewart, and be careful what you wish for, you will still be a very rich man playing for a club where you are appreciated not like those moaning scousers.

Villa thought that all the birthdays and Xmas had come at once when they sold him. Half of the price would have been accepted and if they were to try and get him back about £12m should be the max. Matt Jarvis, Foster and the Wigan pair will be sought but will they come? Money from Young & Downing is all that Mcleish will get. £40m was quoted and that is what the two deals will put in the pot. I am not holding my breath, but some of the targets will arrive, but I fear that more will refuse.
