I am assuming if Remi Garde performs a miracle and keeps Villa in the Prem you would want him to stay, but what if/ when you go down, do you want him to stay?

Hi ed!
I do, I think the guy was promised the earth, and got given f**k all!
I think, given time, and (dare I say) backing to create his own team, he will be brilliant for us.
He is very intelligent, articulate, calm he is tactically astute, and nobody's fool, ask grealish.

I don't think we have a hope in hells chance of staying up anymore, but, I think we have a greater chance of promotion next year with remi.

{Ed001's Note - he was very highly rated in France, I know that much. There were a lot of people telling him not to take the job.}

Very true.
I bet he wishes he hadn't!

27 Feb 2016 10:29:38
I know you can't go on one game but that Liverpool result really knocked the stuffing out of me in terms of faith in the coach (I lost faith in the players a few months back)
Gonna sit on the fence with this; I just don't know
Let's see what happens today. I think Garde has played his joker in outing the players and criticising the players publicly
If we win he will be lauded as a tactical genius, if we lose he'll be lambasted as naive and a lot will be on here saying I told you so
When all is said and done though, he has been badly shafted by the board.

27 Feb 2016 10:40:34
It's a good point, but I don't blame him really for the scouse result.
I think he was totally let down by the players, with a no show, they laid down and died.
Was nothing he could do really.

The 'I told you so' possy totally wind me up!

No Remi has got to go, should never have been employed in the first place and if he is that highly rated why was he employed by French tv for 2 years, Newcastle pulled out of a move for him, he probably bored them to death! If he is intelligent and a good manager then why hasn't he won more games, the xmas period was vital for villa and he had no idea how to manage it,! Players clearly don't respect him and I have not heard anyone in football apart from Wenger say anything good about him! He tried tobuy Martins? and Debuchy did not want to come so sorry but not all the clubs fault, yes he should have been given funds as a club we desperately need some quality players but do we really want Remi Garde and our recruitment to sign more donkeys for villa? Can we honestly say the team has improved with Garde? I think we have got worse and I have not seen improvement in any of our players, even the players from france which is the reason he was given the job in the first place, bring Moyes in now and we have a fighting chance of survival, otherwise we are lost with this clown and WE WILL NOT GET PROMOTED WITH GARDE! He is lost in the prem but will be clueless in the championship.

The trouble with that argument Flackie (and I understand why you say what you do) is that it sort of makes it difficult to judge a manager. i.e if the players play well, has the manager done a good job and when the players put in a performance like Liverpool is it solely the players that are culpable?
I suspect the answer lies somewhere in the middle
Like I say mate, I'm confused.

27 Feb 2016 12:13:21
I don't think it matters what the fans want. I think remi will walk away in the summer due to the way the board and players have hung him out to dry. I would personally love to see him given the chance to develop a team of his own. I fear though that villa will not be a premier league team for at least two seasons but when we do return I'd love to see remi at the helm.

Villa82, I'm not certain but I think he chose to take those 2 years off. I've no doubt that he was approached for numerous positions during that period. As for the Newcastle job my understanding is that he wanted his specific coaching team that he wanted to join him at villa but they were told no by their respective clubs. The big difference is that villa told him that in time they would be recruited and then realised that they had no intention of standing by anything they promised.

It's a fair point mendax.

But I honestly think the players have give up, and accepted relegation after the Sunderland game. So hard to blame, and judge remi on this season.
He has been sold a lie. And wouldn't if blamed him if he had walked after January.

Villa82, open your eyes mate! To aimlessly blame the manager everytime is one dimensional, look at a bigger picture.
And cpmm84, well said mate

Really tough call here Remi or not? Unfortunately how can we judge him too harshly as we have not seen what he can do in a transfer window and with a set of his own players playing his way! Balance this with how many overseas managers have been successful in the championship? Can we afford time for him to build a squad and adjust to a very new league? I would prefer a new and well versed manager but won't be that disappointed if Remi stays! Ouch was that a splinter!

27 Feb 2016 17:27:59
Well I have not heard of him being offered any other roles and all the football experts agree that he was the wrong man at the wrong time! I have nothing against the guy, he just isn't the right man for us and has been negative from day one and in typical french style was waving the white flag in December! We need Tom Fox, Almstadt, O'Reilly out a. s. a. p and let Hollis bring in an experienced manager Moyes, Hughes and let them rebuild not just the team but the coaching and recruitment has needed serious improvement for a long time and get rid of all the poor players, wWestwood, Clark, Guzan, Gabby, Richardson, and there's more, its unbelievable!
But Remi has not improved the team thisIis my point about him, and he has no experience of a, building a squad and b, the premier league! ! Players have got worse not better, we constantly give the ball away and make child like mistakes tactically we are poor and have no style of play, no passion no desire the lack of quality is not Gardes fault but surely good coaching and management would improve the team and player's individually but it just gets worse and worse, is Remi not at all responsible? ? Sorry but disagree!

27 Feb 2016 23:44:07
Villa 82, I have never seen a post off you with any word of optimism or have any good word to say . Also iv never seen anybody get so many disagrees, surely post after post, seeing all those pop up, must make you think that maybe you might be wrong ( sometimes) up the Villa.

28 Feb 2016 00:26:16
Steady on! He talks in facts and absolutes! It's us who is wrong!

28 Feb 2016 07:28:23
So what about every football expert in the country? They all wrong to? I was with 20 loyal fans yesterday who all agree and the facts don't lie! Do you read vitalvilla or any other website? Haha you think i am negative? Have you listend to Remi Garde? He knew we where down in December! And where are all the disagreements I don't see them, do you listen to radio, watch sky? Look at the results and more importantly the performances! It is you that is wrong, well there seems to be 3 or 4 of you supporting Garde and blaming the club mainly Lerner but Lerner owns Aston Villa and wiped off 100million of debt owed to him through interest, funny none of you mention that?!

And let's not forget most people on here where predicting a top ten finish at the start of season, haha ;)

28 Feb 2016 09:06:02
If Remi had come in with us mid table and money to spend in January then I think he would have been a brave gamble and an exciting choice. Coming in as he did was more reckless with us on our end knees. Pearson or Moyes or of their ilk would have been a safer bet and probably would be going forward. Moyes at Preston and then EFC on a shoe string gives him credentials that Remi can't live with. I expect with the club structure, up for sale etc would put off many like Moyes but our name and size may tempt someone new for the challenge. Roll on the summer as this lingering demise is too painful to stomach! VTID.

28 Feb 2016 10:52:27
Every football so called football expert in the country thought Leicester would struggle this year
I'm not using that as an argument for Garde; I am using it as an argument against quoting "football experts"

28 Feb 2016 19:44:20
Let's be honest even fergy couldn't get anything out of our lot. I like remi but worry for him the championship. Pearson would be my choice. I just wish someone would stand up and say we are down so let's enjoy the rest of the season instead of going through the we still believe bs. Facts are 37 points may be enough so 7 wins out of 11, I don't think so.

28 Feb 2016 12:29:46
What manager could do better with that squad? Lerner cashed in on 2 players and spent that money on how many? Most clubs would buy what 2or 3 players for that money. don't get me wrong we need a squad but that's all our transfers were squad players.
