If we sell to the chinese mob we'll regret it, they'd be worse than randy, for all that's decent about football, don't touch them with a barge poll., period.

26 Apr 2016 23:51:46
The chinese have gone mad for football just because blues had a bad chairman you think there all like it? so does that mean because we have had problems with randy lerner all americans are bad owners? i think it would be great idea!

27 Apr 2016 04:24:59
I hope its mr. ellison who buys us, your mate from the water margin has no interest in football, and i hope we never find out if its like that or not, swerve him double lively.

27 Apr 2016 04:53:13
wang or larry would do for me. both super rich and wanting to build a winning team.

27 Apr 2016 06:18:35
Now that's a dream i hope comes true, because at the moment i think unfortunately its only happening on the old playstation.

27 Apr 2016 12:01:00
I actually think, the Chinese mob, or the American would be brilliant.
Both don't know how to fail
Both would throw money to get us back to prem
If was the Chinese, sales from shirts to billions of Chinese would create a revenue stream to cancel out financial fair play.
And both are so wealthy that the money it would cost to get us there could probably be found down the back of their sofas.

{Ed002's Note - The sales from shirts don't go to the club. And the shirts sold in China will not be original shirts in any case.}

27 Apr 2016 12:22:31
So an Aston villa club shop, wouldn't sell original shirts, or keep profit from sales in their own shop?

{Ed002's Note - The money from shirt sales goes to the manufacturer, the distributor and the retailer, who can make extra adding numbers and names to the shirts. If the club are the retailer (club shop, club website etc.) then they get the retailers cut. The manufacturer (Adidas, Umbro, Nike etc.) pay the club an amount each year which allows them to manufacture and sell the shirts using the correct logos etc.. That is how they justify the money given to the club. So if you walk in to a high street store and buy a Liverpool or Arsenal shirt - nothing goes to the club. There are a few clubs that have negotiated different deals with manufacturers (Real Madrid with Adidas and Barcelona with Nike are the two obvious examples) based upon joint reselling ventures. So the income from shirts is fixed to the £xM or whatever Adidas, Nike etc. pay the club plus a small amount for reselling through the club retail outlets (shop, web).}

27 Apr 2016 14:24:07
Ed that is the best reply to anything I have seen.
I never knew that, and has taught me something. Thank you!
I retract my point!
But stand by the idea that they are winners, and would throw money at us to get us back to the holy ground.

{Ed002's Note - And be wary that there are limits of the amount of investment that can be made without hitting FFP issues. What would be more likely for any owners, be they American, Chinese or anything else, is to look at the entire business and look to improve it.

What I suspect will happen after a change of ownership is that external help will come in to look at where the entire business is (not just the footballing side) and where it needs to get to. In order to achieve where it needs to get to there needs to be a sensible plan (stadium, academy, involvement of the community and the local authorities, football side, commercial side etc.). From a commercial perspective there will be new opportunities if a buyer arrives from a region that is on the up and relatively untapped. Also on the footballing side Aston Villa would need to inform UEFA of new investment (this has to be done by December 31) which will give a short-term buffer against FFP for the 2017/18 season. Simply looking at the football side of the business fixes very little. It would be a much bigger deal than that if it were to happen.}

27 Apr 2016 15:17:39
Again, thank you ed. Blindly as a fan, hadn't thought of that side of things.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

27 Apr 2016 16:33:31
thanks for the explanation on the shirt sales Ed, but I think the Flacksters point underlines this in that if we sell a large amount of shirts to our new fan base given our new found global appeal, will this not give us a better bargaining stance in negotiating the kit deal?

{Ed002's Note - I think you may be running way ahead of yourself here. Think of it this way, if Richard Branson were to buy Boca Juniors in Argentina, would you suddenly become a fan and run out and buy a shirt of theirs?}

27 Apr 2016 17:25:25
Will they have virgin on the front? 😳

{Ed002's Note - Absolutely.}

27 Apr 2016 17:27:40
I'll have one! Lol

26 Apr 2016 21:55:47
To be completely honest why are we even discussing potential managers with a takeover just around the corner. Surely the way forward would be to wait until the takeover is done and dusted and then look at managers, David Moyes and Nigel Pearson can snub us all they like because after the takeover they may not be seen as even being good enough for the job, Moyes was made to look a monkey at Man Utd even though he had cash so I wouldn't trust him with a war chest of cash anyway.

26 Apr 2016 22:49:22
If, and yes it is obviously an if, we are about to be taken over, then the new owners would be letting know who they want, and where, board members, managers and director of football.
Any appointments made now would be Lerners, would be the new owners. If there is one!

26 Apr 2016 22:57:28

27 Apr 2016 00:08:13
I agree to an extent but if the new owners still had not signed a concrete deal then I don't think any appointments would be made on their behalf in case they should pull out. Also if it was a concrete deal then surely it would already of been announced so I can only see that appointing a manager now would be Lerner's deal in which case it may not suit the new owner and would be rendered pointless.

27 Apr 2016 12:21:25
Look back to when we announced Martin o'niel.
We still had Doug as owner, and had no announcement made In the press of otherwise.
Yet it was Lerner who appointed him.
I think that's why we are seeing changes happen, the board, manager, redundancy etc. Makes sense that the new owner would want things in place for when in happens, as not their expense, or effort to sort.

27 Apr 2016 16:36:01
but didn't MON said publicly that he had a verbal conversation with randy that he was going to take over and on that basis he accepted the job?

26 Apr 2016 18:23:10
What's everyone's thoughts on the legend that is Petrov making a comeback?

26 Apr 2016 18:31:22
he is old and over weight, but i would still put him ahead of westwood.

26 Apr 2016 18:44:42
Really feel for Stan having his top flight career cut short. He is and will remain a villa legend. I recall being a kid and seeing the great Mohamed Ali making a return to the ring fighting Leon Spinks. I was in awe of the guy in the mid seventies but seeing him a shell of his true self against Spinks will be my last memory. I don't wish the same for Stan and hope he sees sense and keeps plugging away at coaching instead.

26 Apr 2016 19:18:15
Good luck to him, we've dropped down a level and he'd wouldn't be out of place, assuming we're going to have a bit to spend, a good Championship midfield for us would be:
Petrov Westwood and Charlie Adam, plus someone to get crosses in to Rudy, and maybe a poacher like Jordan Rhodes, if Boro blow it, sod this 1 up front crap, onwards and upwards.

UTV.

26 Apr 2016 20:05:57
with that midfield we would drop another division .

26 Apr 2016 20:53:27
got to give him a chance, what have we got to lose?
if he comes in and plays DM, the pace won't be there but the ability to read a game from the back, organise with authority and respect i'd have him if he's good enough.

26 Apr 2016 20:53:33
I'm delighted- a player who understands what it means to wear the Villa shirt and hopefully will get some sense into the other drivel. I would say make him captain again, but he's too old to play every game for 90 mins.

26 Apr 2016 21:02:22
Come on guys. I loved Stan too, But this is sentimental nonsense.

26 Apr 2016 22:38:22
Names for a championship midfield then people? Bearing in mind that for anyone better than what we've got would we be an option for them unless we were throwing money at them? Charlie Adam is a goal scoring midfielder, Westwood is steady, Stan if he can be close to what he was before would be what's been missing for 4 years? Remember we're not in the Prem any more, and if we're honest, our club is a joke at the moment, so unless you were a player who is/ was a boyhood Villa fan and care like we do on here, why would anyone in their right mind want to play for us?

UTV.

26 Apr 2016 22:41:04
Great story. After this season a good bloke getting back in shape doing what he is best at. I wish him all the best and would love to cheer Stan one more time. 19.

26 Apr 2016 22:52:58
Maybe we can play the Rocky tune at start of matches as well
I wish Stan all the best as well. But Stan the decent bloke and Stan the potential midfield general rising like Lazarus and leading a glorious Villa procession out of the Championship is quite another.

27 Apr 2016 00:19:03
Stan was the man and I don't doubt his commitment for one minute, however his ability could now be in doubt so who knows. A great story but just as Mourinho's return to Chelsea was a classic sentimental tale I feel it may be doomed to failure which would be sad as I for one would like to remember Stan for the great player he was and the wonderful service that he gave to us.

27 Apr 2016 02:17:06
stan should go to cultic. he would hack that league easy if fully fit.

26 Apr 2016 12:03:47
Hopefully today gives justice to the families from the hillsborough disaster.
Rip the 96

27 Apr 2016 02:03:23
I agree but we should not be writing about them getting justice 27 years after the incident occurred, this should have been sorted and put to bed long ago.

26 Apr 2016 10:25:51
Guzan named worst goalie in Europe then announces he opening a goal keeping academy you just can't write this stuff can you?

26 Apr 2016 12:28:24
It will work. she shows them what to do, then they do the opposite.

26 Apr 2016 22:37:36
Who says professional footballers don't have a sense of humour. Classic.

26 Apr 2016 07:39:05
Football is a funny game, if I refused to do work at my job I would docked wages or sacked! How do footballers get away with it. It crazy.

26 Apr 2016 21:45:11
Spoilt brats, they should work out how much in wages the remainder of his contract is worth then fine him that amount and dismiss him, also he should not be allowed to play for any other team until his contract would of expired. Job done, quit being soft with all players from any team and make them earn the ridiculous wages they earn the likes of which you and I could only dream of.

26 Apr 2016 01:02:42
Right newspapers saying that moyes is now wanting to go back to everton if martinez is sacked. if pearson does go to boro would anybody like martin laursen as manager or maybe even roy hodgson? If a takeover does happen mayb we could buy danny ings off liverpool proven in the championship. just thinking outside the box also do you all think its possible for about 12 players to go an 12 to come in with a new manager an a takeover that would be one busy summer and surely the whole club will need time to gel?

26 Apr 2016 07:35:34
I read one of the reasons David Bernstein left was because he was aiming high and wanted Roy Hodgson to be the next villa manager after the euros. But RL didn't want him as he would be on high wages.

26 Apr 2016 15:53:41
what about mark warburton to villa from rangers scottish league is crap.

26 Apr 2016 16:00:19
if not Pearson or moyes I'd go Brendan Rodgers myself.

26 Apr 2016 19:46:13
Chris houghton for me

26 Apr 2016 20:24:11
Chris Houghton is a great choice to be fair.

26 Apr 2016 21:19:47
Renn1975 warburton wouldn't lower himself to take the poison chalice of a job that is the villa managers job! the Scottish league maybe crap but the way your mob played this season u would have struggled in that league too your team has to be 1 of the worst to have performed in the premiership since it begun total embarrassment!

27 Apr 2016 09:12:08
trust me as poor as we have been we would still have won the Scottish league. league 1 level here. we have players in our squad that if used right would of performed a lot better and we should of had a man in charge with the balls to drop the dross and give others a chance. celtic with there current team would of been in our position if they were in epl.

27 Apr 2016 12:21:47
Thanks Ryan!

26 Apr 2016 00:21:39
Newspapers today (which ones i don't know) are saying that neil warnock is now the bookies favourite (i know this is nothing and probably drosh), but the more you look at it, the more i think, if pearson goes to the boro, and the manager we (the new owner i mean) want is not available;is neil warnock not a bad stop gap in the mean time?, i reckon go for him if it doesn't pan out, or my choice (for what its worth) david wagner, get in there!

27 Apr 2016 10:32:29
Don't know where they get these stories from. Pearson is overwhelming favourite with the bookies. Some bookies have him as short as 2 to 1 on. Warnock is fourth favourite. You can get 14 to 1 against him!
