Well 2/ 3 of the fans wanted Bruce to stay and I think that was the right decision at this moment in time. Henry would have found it tough in his first managers job with the huge expectations and just over a week to prepare until the league begins, also with the added burden of having to maybe lose players and possibly work with a tight budget I think it may have proved too much. So definately for now I think the right decision has been made.

Hopefully we can get off to a good start and push once more for automatic promotion. UTV.

My thoughts after tonight:
Jack and Andre were excellent. Conor reliable and Jake showed promise. Gary also deserves a chance imo.
We need a new goalkeeper.
Wish Kodjia would try play the ball instead of focusing on leaning into defenders.
Bree had a horror show, hopefully a one off but stakes Elmo's claim for him.
If we're going 3 at the back they have to learn to cover the wing backs, that's the whole point of Whelan being there.
Too many 2nd and 3rd touches when not needed coupled with sideways and backwards passing when a forward ball was on.
Still no energy. Can't leave one person pressing and relying on it being Jack or Conor every time. Either all go or nobody goes.
Bruce is trying something different but the players still can't seem to pass or control the ball effectively.

25 Jul 2018 21:55:38
After tonights game I have to say, I would snap up the offer from spuds for Grealish, and get rid of most of the team, this is not a spur of the moment thing.
The team and club are in a mind set, and stuck with negativity, sideways, backwards, sideways again, so dam boring, we have no game changing players at all, and at times tonight we looked like chickens with their heads off.
Nobody in our squad can pick a pass, I mean a telling pass through the channels, nine times out of ten if we break down the middle the ball is then played out wide, teams suss that out very soon and from then on we are finished.
Unless we make changes now, I fear we will remain a win one, and lose one side.
I say change the manager, gradually change most of the playing staff and start again.
I know all too well that fortunes can change, trouble is I can`t see that happening with this lot, I am afraid we missed the boat back in May.
Please don't anyone say I am a pessimist, I am far from it, that is honestly how I see our plight.

26 Jul 2018 08:54:51
Wow, got all that from a friendly!

29 Jul 2018 05:01:01
sounds all positive then!

25 Jul 2018 20:45:34
I'm hearing we Henry turned it down in the end as we won't be able to spend enough to give him a fighting chance. That's the only reason they have decided to stick with Bruce for now.

25 Jul 2018 21:29:47
Considering everything you've posted from your sources has been wrong, I think I'll take that with a pinch of salt.

25 Jul 2018 22:32:27
rknewell i agree, this guy thinks he's got firsthand insight on every bit of gossip, when he actually knows nothing.

26 Jul 2018 04:45:45
Id take an educated guess that I have closer links to the club than anyone else on this site. I told you all weeks ago that we were being taken over and it was an American when everyone else was saying no the Dr has said he won't sell. I also stated about Henry about 3 to 4 days before all the paper talk about it. I don't make final choices or have any say in what goes on but I do have links to the club. Say that's bs if you want tbh I don't really care. 😉.

26 Jul 2018 06:32:50
I'm not saying you don't but they've obviously been feeding you rubbish to keep you off the track.
I remember UAE/ Jordan being the 'definite' takeover group which was wrong.
Multiple 'announcement today' messages with no announcements.
Henry is definitely taking over - he definitely didn't quit sky sports for us to then change his mind at the last minute.
Oh, and wasn't Jack supposed to be out of the door last week? Everything was finalised, right?

26 Jul 2018 07:08:34
No mate think you mixing half of the stuff up with someone else here.

26 Jul 2018 11:11:31
He's not, you post a lot of rumours, NONE of which materialise!

25 Jul 2018 18:43:56
Bruce staying been confirmed.

25 Jul 2018 19:13:24
Well that's it now we get behind bruce as usual,

25 Jul 2018 16:09:02
No word on Bruce's future, I'm worried he may be staying :- (.

25 Jul 2018 17:30:31
Announcement later.

25 Jul 2018 18:42:21
The Beeb say Bruce has the full support of the board, gone tomorrow then.

25 Jul 2018 23:47:34
Statement been released. on Facebook page. Bruce is staying. No Henry.

25 Jul 2018 15:02:52
If henry gets job he needs same time as bruce, plus he will be bckd aswell.

25 Jul 2018 15:25:17
I think many fans will not wait that long before slagging him off,
Bet derby fans are thinking the same as our fans.

25 Jul 2018 16:13:19
I see now on other blogs Steve bould is getting stick because he also has no championship experience?
Does not being at arsenal as a decent defender plus being assistant manager count for anything!
And 10 years as the u18 academy manager,
Some fans need to lighten up I'm afraid,
Just like Henry not even sat behind a desk and he is not welcome,

25 Jul 2018 17:00:28
God being a villa fan is hard work!

Some of you guys need to give your head a wobble. your like a load of old women! moan moan moan

If Bruce stays I have no issue, if he goes again I have no issue . It’s not my business and I have to assume those in power are making the right decisions based on setting things in place for the clubs future

Some of the comments are rediculous . Henry has no managerial experience or doesn’t know the championship!

No he has no managerial experience, however let’s see firstly If he is appointed. If he is then let’s see who his back room staff consist of .

Last season villa only started playing better when Steve Agnew was appointed

The manager is just the focal point of the team and often not doing the coaching day to day

As for Henry not knowing the championship, I guess that’s right but then again neither did Nuno Espiroto Santo at wolves . the rest as they say is history .

This is another new era for our club with new owners .

Just get behind the club and roar them to success .

25 Jul 2018 23:02:44
Villa_ken, at last a sensible post, a bit of sanity . As we say everybody has their own opinions, but some of the things have been ridiculous. People forget Dr T, Was the big hero not so long ago. Some of the decisions he made lately, have got us into trouble . But I think he honestly, put to much faith in his Chinese masters . Now we have even richer saviours, but some are already criticising, before they’ve got in the door . This near to the start of the season, never was Brucie going .
So let’s all wait and see what, the next few weeks bring .
Onwards&Upwards Villaforever.

26 Jul 2018 10:05:42
The Dr did get it badly wrong but I still feel he cared for the villa and wanted it to turn out better than it did.
He as least has got us mega rich owners in and I admire him for that,
Now it's down to bruce to show he deserves to carry on,
The owners will Give him time and I should imagine 10-15 games will tell them if to stay with him,
I hope bruce really does get us in contention but this year it will be harder and let's all hope he does it,

25 Jul 2018 14:37:24
Its obvious new owners might hire a new manager, just say bruce stays an we are no where near top 6 by xmas, who would be evey 1s top 3 chices then,?

25 Jul 2018 14:43:01
Alan pardew🤔🤔🤔🤔.

25 Jul 2018 15:27:31
To be honest I'm glad new owners have took over with deep pockets,
That news alone makes me feel much better than last week.

25 Jul 2018 13:46:14
Theres no plesing sum villa fans we get new take over, maybe new manager an people are still moaning an harping on, its exciting times now let's enjoy it no matter who is in charge.

25 Jul 2018 13:57:42
People are not harping on or moaning, they are simply voicing their concerns that Henry has no experience, which is an understandable reaction of any fan. If Henry gets the job and begins with a string of wins then I'm sure the fans will soon get behind him, however if it goes the other way you can expect a lot of told you so comments coming your way. Replacing an experienced manager with one who has no experience must be seen as a move that carries risk even in your eye's, if you would only take a moment to look past his huge footballing name maybe you would spot that.

25 Jul 2018 14:16:15
If a if a relativly unknown player with all his badges and no experience took the managers job would you be equally excited? Nobody is against Henry, he could in fact turn out to be a great manager but that doesn't change the fact that at this point he is a unknown entity in that department so fans are a little worried.

25 Jul 2018 14:16:32
An whad did we achieve with the most experienced manager in the divison, in 2yrs mate iim confused .

25 Jul 2018 14:29:42
I get that but we can't get any worse than bruce, the players will get a buzz if henry gets appointed, who wouldn't want too play for him as a manager, yes its a risk but a risk worth taking, i'm not worried at all bout experience its so over used now adays just like the stat we had so muvh possession, it will be a good appointment in my view.

25 Jul 2018 14:34:14
In his one full season at the club with very little funding, and despite huge personal trauma he came within one game of taking us up. Maybe not a huge achievement but one that bettered all the teams below us. So unless Henry takes us up in one season then in your own assessment of judging the situation he too will be a huge failure.

25 Jul 2018 14:38:13
There are plus points and minus points with every manager,
Henry's minus points is lack of experience that's a no-one brainer,
Plus points he will attract better players with his contacts within the game,
These are the 2 main points,
I'm willing to let him prove he is the man.
He has to start somewhere why not at a big club who have struggled over the past few years and needs a major kick up backside,
I'm not saying he will succeed but I'm more than happy to see him succeed,
The last couple of years bruce has had loads of fans wanting him gone but now that Henry has being linked for his job bruce seems to be flavour of the month with fans and instead want him to stay,
It was always on the cards that with a owner they would want there own choice of manager so let them decide who they want and let's see if there judgement is right or wrong,
End of day we all want what's best for club so let's enjoy the new investment in club and get behind whoever is in charge,

25 Jul 2018 15:04:35
I agree Mainbob, If Henry comes to the club then he will have my full support. He was a fantastic player that put his all into the game and I am certain he would do the same being a manager. If the new owners choose that route to take then I will be happy to go along with, as you say his name carries a lot of weight so in that respect it would be great for the club. I'm sure he will give everything to achieve success but there will be huge expectations put upon him from the word go from both owners and fans, the question is will he be able to cope with that? Having said that if he can get past the first couple of months relativly unscathed that will give him huge confidence and he may go on to big things.

25 Jul 2018 15:15:06
Don't get the 'can get better players with all his contacts'. Other than Arsenal's lightweight kids who can he realistically call that Bruce doesn't likely already have a number/ email for after all his years in the game?

25 Jul 2018 15:23:27
Would think Barcelona and juventus would be a decent shout for any cast offs?
Plus many other clubs in europe.

25 Jul 2018 16:55:18
All I miss seeing on this thread is people disregarding Bruce's contacts. Bruce's contact book is probably 5 times the size of Henrys. The man is respected by the top managers in the Orem mourinho trusting him with some of his best young talent for example not to mention the players who want to come and play for him again snodgrass for example. As people have said their is pros and cons to each manager.

In my opinion we don't need a new manager coming in 2 weeks before the end of the transfer window to assess the squad before paying a premium for any late deal he can muster up. Personally I say back Bruce this season and if he doesn't come up with the goods we try someone like Henry say January or next season.

25 Jul 2018 11:45:44
Can't understand all the anti posting . Nothing has been declared yet, one way or the others.

25 Jul 2018 08:44:32
I am amazed at the negative comments I am seeing on loads of blogs,
Henry was not anywhere near my top list for the next villa manager,
His name never entered my head but the owners are getting all sort of flak and madness to appoint him,
Do fans remember where we were last week?
We were on our knees and administration was a real risk and a drop into div 1,
Now these owners have took over and have targeted Henry as the man they want,
I have no problem at all with that and he gets my full support if he gets the job,
Will Henry get us up I don't know myself,
I really hope so and we will see better football and he will attract players from all over the globe,
He is a massive signing and it is risky but also is very exciting for me,
If the players get into how he wants to play and he brings in a few players to help the team I am happy with that,
Gerrard, lampard will also be looked at in the same way don't forget,
So get behind the owners and Henry is all I ask.

25 Jul 2018 09:06:54
Here here.

25 Jul 2018 10:08:56
What I find funny is how Henry has been totally written off already, nobody knows if he will be a success but let's get behind him and the team if he is appointed.

Nobody is more experienced in the Championship than Steve Bruce, and he failed - We had the most experienced squad in Championship history, and we failed. Experience is not always the answer!

We will undoubtedly have a very young squad this season, the owners want to embrace youth and our academy going forward, we need a head coach not a man manager. Bruce is not fit for purpose under the new regime.

Will Henry succeed? Who knows but there are multiple success stories throughout football that suggest he can be, if he is appointed let's get behind him and the squad.

25 Jul 2018 11:01:35
Here Here!

25 Jul 2018 11:56:48
My sentiments exactly! Just because Zola failed, doesn't mean Henry will. In the same breath, just because Guadiola succeeded.
People are afraid of the unknown, but what if Henry does become the next Guadiola. and we passed up on that!

With the new owners on board, it is no longer s@#t or bust alla the Dr's strategy. If it doesn't work, we try something else with the worst case having to spend another season in the championship.

Don't get me wrong, I want promotion as much as the next Villa fan, but Bruce has had 2 cracks at it with the most expensive squad in history and failed. Let's try something new, we might just be pleasantly surprised!

25 Jul 2018 15:48:00
Zola failed at West Ham and correct me if I'm wrong Watford too? Not relevant really

UTV.

Review Of The Day 25th July 2018

25 Jul 2018 06:37:53
{Ed's Note - Ed001 has posted a new article entitled, Review Of The Day 25th July 2018

25 Jul 2018 00:40:01
So villa fans are happy for bruce to stay, an watch long ball an boring play again, hope henry comes he could be class, players are going to respect him, an he will atract better players, especially if we go up aswell, who else could we get apart from deansmith, i'd like to know who other villa fans would want.

25 Jul 2018 06:14:15
You act like hoofball was all we played. I only really remember seeing it when we were getting too deep or playing against a high press.
The players were the ones who took too much time on the ball, didn't find space and ran out of ideas.
Even the best in the world have to play a few long balls in a match when facing tough opposition.
Arsenal are in danger of slipping away so do we really want their rejects?
Don't forget, RDM had a lot of skillful players who played a very attacking passing game which I remember working absolute wonders / sarcasm.
