I think all lof this Lerner bashing is slightl out of order. Yes he signs the cheques but he does not coach nor implement tactics, we also need to remember that a certain M O'Neil squanderd a lot of Lerners cash on average players whom he signed on mega wages and never played, Luke Young, Habib Beye and Reo-Coker to name a few. We would all love a blank cheque book for out Manager to spend on who he likes but the rality of this happening is very slim. I for 1 would like to see some sort of plan rather than a hoof from the back up to Benteke or Gabby to chase. AGD VILLA

If you are an owner of a prem. club, then you know that you are going to spend spend spend.
Yes o'Neil squandered the money on many dead legs, and Houllier & Mcliesh followed that up.
PL was charged with getting rid of these players and this he has almost done. However I would like to see more support for our current manager who has tried to do what Lerner wants.
We all know what PL wants to do and hoofing the ball upfield is what he is left with as he cannot buy the constructive midfield maestro that we all crave.
Lerner has to take a lot of blame for his lack of total support via the tills. PL must want to play good attractive football but his allowance does not allow him to buy the type of player that will allow him to play this style.
Sorry, it is still LERNER OUT NOW.

Old Villain - I bet you were 1 of the fickle lot who wanted Doug Ellis out when Gregory through a tantrum about not investing all those years ago. I think you don't get the point that Lerner does not pick the team, decide on strategy or tactics. With regards to budget football clubs like any business need to adhere to 1, if Lambert gets ten million to spend on players and wages it will be upto him wether he uses it on 1 or 5 players. Lerner has backed him over the last 2 years, Benteke for example - as we crave an attacking midfielder/no. 10 why did LAMBERT spend circa 7 million on Kosak? Ref good attacking football why doesn't Lambert try it as our current style is not working. AGD VILLA

I agree/ Pl is not good for AV

No I am not fickle but I do understand finance.
PL can only select from what he has been allowed to buy under the direction of "buy cheap, low wage'"
I don't know what you do for a living but I am certain that you follow what you are told to do as PL does.
If Lerner asks what PL wants he will put a limit on the cost + wage. He only allows a figure that he sees as within his strict budget.
Kozak was signed as PL recognises that Benteke will be gone this summer. why did he not buy a No 10? You find a good one under £20m + wages
Why do we not play good attacking football?
Because the players have not gelled into the unit that PL intended.
Yes he bought them, but every team that tries to buy cheap makes massive errors. Even those that spend big don't always come up with the goods.
This year look at Spuds, MUFC, spent millions got very little.
Gunners spent £42m on Ozil, still trying to get him to perform.
All buys are not guaranteed to be successful regardless of price.
Lerner wanted to own a prem. club and as such he should invest the bucks to ensure that they remain a prem. club.
The pittance that he has given PL over the last 2 years is disgraceful.
I don't know if PL is up to the job, but if he is not backed to the hilt none of us will ever find out!
If Lerner fails to invest, no matter what PL does, we will be watching championship football within 2 years.
Incidently I liked Deadly.
When finance was needed Deadly would stump up but he always balanced cost + wage.
We may never agree on PL/Lerner /policy, yet I am sure we want the same thing, a successful top 6 Villa team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you PL's dad?, we do not have the luxury to forecast for when Benteke is gone, we need to build a team for the now because as proved this season we may not be in the top flight for much longer! With regards to to £20 million players, dream on - he could've invested what he spend on Kosack, Tonev more wisely - yes I to want a succesfull team but have come to the realisation that fans expectations are to high - let's face it for the time being the best we can hope for is mid-table mediocrity (not even a cup run as Lambert has made it clear he doesn't value them) AGD VILLA

I have been a major supporter of PL throughout the season and do still believe that with the right backing could eventually "get it right. " However he is up against an owner that will not sanction players pay that he sees as excessive. This means that PL has to buy cheap players who will play for cheap money. Lots of posters state that he could have put the money from several cheap buys into one quality player, but that would involve a higher wage.
Even though economically 3 cheap wages equal 1 good wage, Scrooge would not accept this simple equation.
PL cannot buy grade 1 players unless they accept grade 2 pay. Premier players are way out of PL's radar.
I think that the original intention was to pick up players showing some talent and then develop them into a real team that could pass the ball with style and effect, not just defend and counter.
Last week we saw the 2 best passing teams in the prem. get mauled by two good passing teams from Europe and it was a treat to see the quality of the play. This is what we all want at VP, no argument, but the price of that performance is something that Lerner could not imagine in terms of his mean support of his manager.

PL may well depart at the end of the season, either by choice or decision by Scrooge, but whatever happens OUR Aston Villa can only develop by an investment from an owner that wants success as much as we do.
That man is not Lerner.
Go back to the States and let us have an owner that will support our manager regardless of who he, or she? happens to be.
Lerner out NOW.

as the season rolls on to an inglorious conclusion I feel that we must admit that PLs grand experiment has failed. We are now a side that is relatively clueless if Vlaar is absent and the early season lethal strike force on the breakaway appears to have faltered
