May as well change our name to Barnsley as well if the papers knew everything.

26 apr 2017 15:36:02
if barnsley was any good they would of gone up. we are a big club buy big players the owners loaded we generate at least 30 million while we go threw parachute payments so fairplay not a problem. oh and don't say they won't come richie went newcastle gayle went newcastle jedinak neil taylor joined from prem clubs stop buying championship rubbish we are aston villa.

Looks that way Chris, better still, we might as well employ their chief scout, cut out the middle man.

Wtw - every player you mentioned from ritchie to taylor moved because they didn't play week in, week out and their clubs obviously decided they were not essential to the team, as for buying championship rubbish, does kodjia ring a bell?

i'd rather a seasoned championship player who knows just what war of attrition it is, rather than a fancy dan premiership player, you could say its only in the last quarter of the season that the likes of jedinak and chester have shone, and also, why would a player who'se a regular in a prem. team be willing to drop a league and play pinball football, and get booted up in the air more often?

you'd soon see our wage bill go through the roof alright, yes we are maooned down here for 1 more season (fingers crossed! ) but let's not do the same as last summer and pay top dollar for a 'name'.

i'll say it again (sorry), reading and brighton should be the benchmark to follow, a team of grafters sprinkled with a bit of stardust, not a team full of big time charlies', big names, big egos and big dramas, more low key than high maintenance, but i know you'll disagree, so fair enough!

You use Kodjia as an example and then in the next sentence say we shouldn't "pay top dollar for a name", Kodija is exactly that. Jedinak and Chester have shone for a lot longer than a quarter of the season, Jedinak didn't really begin to flourish until Bruce came in (10 games in) when after that he became one of the most crucial parts of the team and without him we couldn't win a game.

Chester has been quality since arriving an I still can't get my head round how a Wales international of his quality is playing for us in this league, ridiculous. Your point is quite right, sign grafters who know this league like Hourihane and Lansbury an such, and then have a few match winners, Kodija etc - but the way you've explained it and backed it up is confusing.

Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield are good examples, forrestieri and wells are the match winners and the rest do their job to a good standard. Reading really are a team full of grafters.

Ah, to me, when we signed kodjia, he was a striker who was making a name for himself after a great season at bristol city, for me he's now a 'name' because he's come to a bigger club (not discourtesy to bristol city meant), handled the pressure and raised his game upwards, the 'name' i meant to explain was to say to WTW that signing a household name from a prem.

club isn't the way forward for me, but i know many will disagree, and just heard the news robinson has got a 3 match ban, stick that up your jumper 'arry, i hope Portsmouth fans let him have it big style!

By that description though Gayle and Ritchie aren't exactly name players, or wasn't last year.

28 Apr 2017 02:08:03
I know you'll maybe disagree Chris, but to me Gayle and Ritchie aren't up there, i remember seeing gayle at the palace and more often than not, he came on as a sub,1 week he'd be lethal and then the next week, sometimes a couple of weeks, he'd miss 3 or 4 good chances and maybe knock one in the onion bag, as for Ritchie, a very tricky player who can score a corker of a goal, but again, great 1 week, go missing the next, for me their lack of consistency shows their good, but not top banana, i know loads will disagree, but if they were top draw another prem. club i think would have snapped them up, and by the way, i think perez is a much better striker than gayle-but what do i know!

Sorry mate I must a misunderstood somewhere, that's what I meant Gayle and Ritchie weren't name players, but I thought in your original post you was using them as an example of players that are name players - my bad.
