I was just thinking on how much Aston Villa have spent over the last 5 years and it's frightening the amount of money we have spent we should be a top four club. Dr Tony said he's going to invest in youth and it looks like he is a man of his word.
Take Tottenham Hotspur for instance what a youth team and young squad they have and Southampton I guess what I'm trying to say the more you invest in youth now the less you have to spend in the future. As much as I am happy with Glenn Whelen and John Terry wouldn't it be good to have a hot young side that grows together and gets better and better?
And before anybody says anything I'm not saying fill the whole squad with youth players just blend at least 3 or 4 in a season. Lyden is a good player and davis an rhm we need to blend them in more they won't get better if you don't give them a chance. 20 min here and there Until they are ready wouldn't do us any harm. I believe that a blend of youth and experience is exactly what the hierarchy at Villa are planning. I heard that the squad is to be reduced to around 20 and then bolstered with 4 or 5 of the youth players.
The purchase of Terry and whelan I believe are master strokes. They are both on short contracts, so will only be with us for 1 or 2 years but in that time they will bring class and composure to the team while at the same time be mentoring the youth players to hopefully fill their boots when they finally hang them up. They should also help realign the attitudes of some of the more experienced members of the squad, who have been under performing for far too long.

Somehow we have to get the younger quality and keep them moving through the club right to the top.
One standout example is Sturridge.
Hometown boy who went away for whatever reason.
If we find them we must keep them. Give them incentive to stay and not disappear to other clubs.
Very easily written but what could we do to keep them?

Someone posted about bree at centre back the other day, I said they was mental (can't remember who) . Bree is now playing centre back because Richards got injured. We played brilliant in the first 45 min game, we're now playing 4 or 5 players out of position, weird.

I have always said Agbonlahor is dead wood, should not be even on the bench and that includes a park bench.

Biggest plus I'm taking from today is that we looked solid at the back again, scored 5 goals in 90 mins and we didn't look lightweight in any department, we held our own and at times bullied the opposition, we look physically ready for the demands of the championship.

Hearing rumblings that Baker is considering his future. Personally I think he could become as good as Cahill should have become for us? Even though he did well for us last season, I'd sacrifice Huttons wages to give Baker a longer contract if I was thinking long term. Do you agree/ disagree? and does Bruce/ you rate Toner as a direct replacement if Baker was to leave?

I would keep baker
Is this why Richards is getting more game time?
I hope not he should have gone years ago,
Baker is injury prone but when he plays he puts his heart and soul into playing.

Just goes to show how much of a threat hogan is when you play to his strengths, through balls in behind the defence and decent balls in to match his run off the defender from the wing, looked like the player we signed first half!

Hogan always works the channels well but needs service to see the best of him,
Wish we could get his mate at Brentford woods,
He created so many chances for him there

Personally I don't think we need much more, we have the squad we just need to get them to gel and playing to each other's strengths, chopping the numbers is clearly a priority and then if a genuine quality becomes available we can take a look and see if it will improve us other than that I think we are ready for the challenge agead.
