We're clearly after a new striker, for me Rhodes although prolific isn't an upgrade on Gestede .

Clearly the lad can score but not the way we play, not a crossing team .

Personally i would prefer Scott Hogan although the lure of premiership football with West Ham is more attractive than us

Failing that I would go for Nakhi Wells from Huddersfield. Quick and direct would be perfect for counter attacking style and would compliment Kodjia

19 Jan 2017 13:50:45
Bang on Ken we need more pace up front and definitely not another donkey plodder! Gestede is never worth £6 million in a trillion years £4 mil tops . Rhodes possibly £6 mil tops. Problem is they all know Villa have cash so £6mil becomes £12 mil

19 Jan 2017 14:08:14
Apparently wells is stalling on a new contract .

Huddersfield want 8 million for him

19 Jan 2017 19:10:49
Wells would be great signing like a young gabby full of energy

19 Jan 2017 19:26:14
Pace and can hit the back of the net

19 Jan 2017 20:06:23
We need more or a presence than Wells imo, Rhodes is a huge upgrade on gustede but I also don't think he's the answer, not quick enough to be considered a pacey striker and not big enough to be a target man, more of an all rounder. That being said he could turn out to be the answer and no matter what he will be 1000 times better than Gabby.

19 Jan 2017 21:36:35
A strikers job is to score, Rhodes knows his job, file under Lineker, Kerry Dixon, Darren Bent etc.

get lansbury and this kid from Barnsley into the side and we will create a hell of a lot more and mccormack will look at different player. rohdes will do the same even gabby might get 2 by end of season it's all about creating chances which we have not been doing. simple as that.

20 Jan 2017 09:41:53
Allyp I agree but maybe someone should tell that to Ross McCormack!

I know we're not playing the best style to suite him but even so he has been a very poor acquisition IMO

20 Jan 2017 11:14:32
McCormack is probably a D- so far this season, maybe with more chances created he will come good, and a set position that he'll play in, and for gods sake back him, not get on his back.

19 Jan 2017 11:56:49
I feel we be lucky to sign anyone of real quality this window. And that's not down to the Dr or SB. It's nature of this window. Clubs put the value of there players up because they don't need sell there best players. It's not just us moaning about signings it's nearly every club. But no club in its right mind would sell there best players halfway thru a season without over pricing there players. I think Bruce will have to work with what he has I'm afraid and let's hope he makes it work

19 Jan 2017 19:26:45
I agree with your point mate but it looks like you are wrong (ie Lansbury and Hourihane look imminent)
However I don't think it's down to faulty logic on your part; you make sense.
What it does show is that Bruce has been clever in targeting players who were shortly out of contract, thereby forcing their respective clubs into a difficult position
Well played all round I think

19 Jan 2017 19:53:28
Good point Mendax, not far from the truth I bet.

It's how Everton do things, they ain't doing too bad?

Boro want 10 mill for rhodes, so we offer 6 mill up front and 4 mill in add ons over a year to 18 months, and surprise surprise they bin us off. i don't get it, where's the pot of gold we have to spend?

And we sold a big target man with no pace and not much control or will to tackle back, and bid on a big target man with no pace and slightly better control, who doesn't tackle back either?

looks like mccormack is dust so we'll have kodgia up front playing with pace, alongside rhodes (in theory).

19 Jan 2017 08:47:22
Ffp will stop the Dr spending big again, we need to get rid of ayew, mcorkmack to raise funds.

19 Jan 2017 13:55:14
Class of 82 it's all about fair play rules meaning we need to get rid of one or two. The Dr has money but hands could be tied to a certain level. One or two loans would help

19 Jan 2017 13:40:14
Can someone please clarify how much we are allowed to spend because of FFP? Not how much we have to spend, there's got to be a figure taking into account what we've spent in the summer, all I hear is the rules have been relaxed, that's still not a figure though is it?

UTV

19 Jan 2017 15:33:44
From the information available we can spend 83mil ally, I did write a reply to this earlier but it may have been too strong worded, as you can see we are some way off the 83mil mark but The Dr seems to have told Mainbob he's struggling because of FFP, hmmmm.

19 Jan 2017 16:51:45
So without going too much into it, we roughly spent £50M in the summer, £33M left to spend not taking into account any sales, should be able to buy promotion lol? Thanks Chris, 1st time someone's put a figure on it 👍🏻

19 Jan 2017 20:09:00
Yea that's what I had it at ally, googled it and said something about if this was the first year we'd been relegated and we had been in the prem the season before that then 83, then went down in stages think next year it would be 53 and year after 33. Not 100% about the other two figures but our category was definitely 83. The eds may know more but that's what the figure was from the EFL explanation.

19 Jan 2017 21:47:33
So worst case scenario if we don't go up this season, have £53M to throw at it next season? and certain players will want to leave so more funds would be available too on top of that £53M.

You know what fellas, was talking about this today at work, though not ideal, another season in the Championship wouldn't be too bad imo, I don't go to B6 to see other teams that are in the Prem, I go to see Villa and to see them win against whoever?

21 Jan 2017 11:02:27
We don't really know the finances of the club, the rules state we can make a loss of 83mill, so we still don't know the actual amount we can spend

19 Jan 2017 00:18:44
All these rumours about jordan rhodes, coming hope are false he's not quick and can't head. all he can do is score from 5 yards if given service, please no. Nothing wrong with our strike force it can't score because the midfield is the worst in all 4 leagues. Why can't bruce see this we need 2 central mids, 1 right bk 1 winger.

ayew and grelish are not wingers neither is kodjia or ross mcormack. Soon as bruce understands that the better his slatting his own players saying there's no quality there he don't no what his on about ross mcormack has scored goals before he joined us everywhere. If he brought costa or aguero they wouldn't score goals with westwood and Jedinak and grelish setting them up. Wake up Bruce please Avfc falling back into old ways

19 Jan 2017 11:50:59
Who says he doesn't see it? Clubs don't like selling in Jan and if they do its for fees way to much. If we want better players we got be lucky to buy them as there clubs more than likely don't want sell them.
Would you want us sell our best players? This transfer window is terrible for anyone wanted a deal. Look around who has actually got a good deal so far?
Sorry long message.

19 Jan 2017 13:25:38
Couldn't agree more about what positions we need and playing players out of position. However don't paint Rhodes as slow, he isn't the quickest striker but he isn't a slouch, an until kodja comes back who would you prefer him or Gabby?

19 Jan 2017 13:52:38
Get Downing because it'll only cost wages, Hourihane £2M, Cainey £10M, them 2 because they're not even at their peak yet and will create chances, McCormack No10 behind Kodjia, I know we're short of a No9 but it's only for another 2/ 3 weeks, if we sell Ayew, only then replace him with a striker, not a jack of all trades striker, think further than the end of the window which is what we seem to be doing
