Note to all Eds.
Is it possible to place a post on the site of every club?
FIFA are preparing to charge the FA
for wearing poppies in the game with Scotland. FIFA request at the moment is "respect" but They show no respect for the many nations that lost men in the great war.
FIFA controls football throughout the world and should be ashamed at there proposed actions.
I am writing to FIFA tonight, address on Internet, to point out that they are not showing respect when the world is showing respect.

{Ed001's Note - it is possible, if you reply to this post with the message you wish to go on all the sites and I will pass it on to Ed033 to do so.}

17 Nov 2016 21:42:36
FIFA are showing us a lack of respect regarding our national teams wearing a poppy to remember the members of the forces of all nations that gave their lives so that people like FIFA could make these stupid decisions
FIFA address is available on the net and we can write to tell them that they are showing a lack of respect to the people of the world.
Oldvillan.

Well said mate
That address is

Fifa-strasse 20
Zurich 8044
Switzerland

Wish as a nation we could break away.

Some people are just plain ignorant of the magnitude of the sacrifices made to keep our countries free. Today marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the battle of the Somme where over 1 million men were killed or injured, enough to fill Villa Park 25 times over. Those brave men in the trenches weren't fighting for some political, religious or ideological cause, but for their families back home and the men next to them, even in the face of unimaginable horrors and almost certain death.

I have had the fortunate opportunity to read my great uncles war diary which he snuck through various POW camps after being shot down behind enemy lines and captured in WW2. The overwhelming feeling you get from reading about these men first hand is that they were no different to you or I. They loved talking about girls and the football (Sadly no mention of Villa, just Everton and Accrington Stanley) and wanted nothing more than for it to all be over so they could just go home back to their loved ones and their normal lives.

So for some corrupt organization to claim its racist or insensitive to wear a mark of respect for that sacrifice is abhorrently disrespectful.

Thanks for fighting the good fight Oldvillan. Some of these people need a history lesson.

I found the extract I was thinking of:

Yea: every grade was there which had no thought of ascending higher than were their couch did await them. And did arise there from each morning albeit with sadness. Such would talk of the flick and of that known as football + billiards and suchlike. And the greatest of these was football. So would these youths talk learnedly of Plymouth Arg., Everton + the Robins + they would talk anxiously of relegation + the third division.
This shall our childrens children learn was the youth of Eng. And they were peaceful and did sing songs + did tell also of her known as little Angeline.

And this poem:

It’s easy to be carefree, when everything’s OK.
It’s easy to be cheerful, when you’re having things your way.
But can you hold your head up and take it on the chin.
When your heart is nearly breaking, and you feel like giving in.

It’s easy back in England, amongst the friends and folk.
But now you miss the friendly hand, the boys, the songs, the jokes.
The road ahead is stony, and unless your strong in mind.
You’ll find it isn’t long before your lagging far behind.

You’ll have to climb the hill boys, it’s no use turning back.
There’s only one way home, and that’s off the beaten track.
Remember you are British and when you reach the crest.
You’ll see a valley green, old England at its best.

You know there is a saying, that sunshine follows rain.
And soon enough you’ll realise, that joy will follow pain.
Let courage be your password and fortitude your guide.
And then instead of grousing, remember those who died.

They died to earn your freedom, t’was not too great a price.
If only you are worthy of so great a sacrifice.
They bore their cross in silence, and sought not wealth or fame.
But you must try to emulate and glorify their name.

Been a long time since I actually read something word for word all the way through on here that was brilliant mate. Shame the players didn't get to see something like that before they played Scotland, wouldn't be great to see them just boycott FIFA completely and play with shirts that had Poppy's printed on instead of them armbands, it's about time they did something off the pitch to help get the nation back behind them instead of letting us down ever two years!

18 Nov 2016 09:08:12
Brought a tear to my eye that.

18 Nov 2016 14:11:59
Wow!
Great post!

18 Nov 2016 17:21:39
I have too say this Andy that is the best post I have ever read on here.

18 Nov 2016 17:39:54
I've got to be honest, I have read and re read this a lot today, I keep going back to it.

Words don't quite do it justice, great post, and very emotional.
Thanks Andy.

18 Nov 2016 19:26:43
Thanks for the positive messages guys. My Great Uncle was one of the lucky ones who managed to make it out alive and he is still kicking at 92. But millions upon millions were not so lucky and their stories will never be told. There were men in his POW group who were strafed down by machine gun fire from allied fighter planes who thought they were a German platoon literally minutes before they were rescued. They dragged themselves through hell only to fall at the final hurdle.

So when FIFA not only go after the players for wearing the armbands but are looking at taking action over the minutes silence and the parade thing with the veterans and the bugle, it touches a nerve.

For the past week or so all I've found myself doing is posting negative stuff and I don't want to anymore because its just not me. I feel that all its done is soured the atmosphere slightly and that's not what this site should be about. Its been made clear by a minority that certain peoples opinions aren't worth sharing so I will refrain from sharing mine from now on. I have had fun over the years and we have had some interesting discussions which always remained pretty civil no matter how much we agreed or disagreed. There have been people before who come on and question the validity of peoples opinions based on trivial factors but they were usually short lived posters who disappeared shortly afterwards never to grace these pages again. I will continue to frequent the site but I won't be actively involved anymore. I don't know why this has got up my nose so much this time but I guess its the straw that broke the camels back. To the vast majority of you I say thanks for the good times, and to the rest **** you.

17 Nov 2016 09:04:05
Hope you don't go mate. although I hate negative posting, I hope I haven't offended or been personal.

The fact of the matter is we all want a successful villa team, and have different opinions on how we get there'

Have a breather and re assess in a few days mate?

17 Nov 2016 10:09:39
I agree with Flackie, its a bit of fun hardly any1 ever agrees with me but we all have to stay and enjoy the banter. Take me an flackie for instance we don't get on we have very differnt views but come friday one thing we will agree on is Aston Villa and all of us will always be rooting for the same thing. I hope one day to share a pint with you all then we can have a laugh. UTV.

17 Nov 2016 11:21:13
God I hate to say, but I agree mate!

It would be boring if we all agreed!

17 Nov 2016 12:49:05
Hey Mr. SKIA I don't share my pints with anyone! 😄 bUt you can buy me one at Leeds if you want.
Have a great weekend in Britains gay capital this week. 😘.

17 Nov 2016 15:17:10
We all agree that Villa will win comfortably tomorrow, right? I say that it will be a 3-0 victory for us. Come on, Villa!

17 Nov 2016 16:21:53
Andy PF i will get you a pint at leeds then mate. just sorting my dress for brighton just don't know what shoes to where lol Seriously tho let's get another 3 points UTV.

17 Nov 2016 16:56:43
We have several bullies on the site that see a rejection of their views etc as negative.
Even reality is deemed negative.
Shame really as it is a great site for the exchange of views.
Recently it has improved.
Stick with it Andy and if you believe then that is your opinion.

17 Nov 2016 19:28:28
See what I mean.

17 Nov 2016 19:21:14
Mr. SKIA just wear the ones you wear to the Tower ballroom on Grab a Granny nights - the claret and blue stilletoes!

17 Nov 2016 19:37:27
Blimey make you mind up Oldvillan.

17 Nov 2016 19:37:33
Have I missed something?

17 Nov 2016 22:07:08
It's five past ten.

17 Nov 2016 23:57:49
Nah. Its been a good ride for the most part but people like Mr SKIA just P me off too much. And when he is the most prolific poster it just ain't fun like it used to be. To come out and respond with its just a bit of fun and banter and that were all on the same page after basically saying that anyone who doesn't sit in the Holte end at every game has a worthless opinion is mind blowing. And as we all know its not the first time this cancer has reared its ugly head and won't be the last. It makes what should be a fun and friendly place to come and talk all things Villa a divisive and unwelcoming place.

Like I said, I will continue to visit the site as its always fun to read posts from KingVilla, Flackie, Mendax, Oldvillain etc but I won't be joining in anymore.

18 Nov 2016 09:06:11
Hear hear Andy🏳🏳.

18 Nov 2016 11:36:46
I'm sorry to see you go mate.
And your point is true, I myself don't visit or post hardly anymore for the same reason, and as I think neither do many more.

However. we are better than that! Aren't we!?
Ignore, don't comment like or disagree. the message will get across!

But the fun and banter has left this site, hopefully temporarily!

18 Nov 2016 13:14:32
I don't agree with you, AndyVilla. IMO you and 1 or 2 others need to stop taking yourself so seriously.
Remember this ; everyone is different. We all have different opinions and different ways of expressing them. Some people have better command of English than others.
Take Mr. SKIA for example. I have strongly disagreed with him on some things and vice versa. I have mocked him just like others have. His blunt approach is at least honest and whether we agree with him or not, or like him or not those are his opinions.
His opinions and mine are just as valid as anyone else's. It doesn't matter who you are or how long you've been on this site, how well spoken you are or how many qualifications you have. Nobody has the definitive opinion.
IMO those that object to that blunt approach are those that think they have the definitive viewpoint. They don't.
It would be great if you stayed on this site and joined in with us. In your own way.
Oh and for the record I think this site is more fun than its ever been. But that's only my opinion.

18 Nov 2016 19:34:52
In my mind there is a difference between healthy debate and disagreement and downright disrespect. Why should I waste my time contributing if what I post is dismissed out of hand? So until this matter resolves itself one way or another, I'm not wasting my time anymore.

18 Nov 2016 20:01:22
Oh Andy AndyPF just for clarification I have absolutely no issue with people disagreeing with me and I have never claimed nor ever would claim I have the difinitive opinion on anything. I am more than happy to debate people based on their arguments but what I am not happy with is being disregarded for pathetic trivial things like match attendance.

18 Nov 2016 19:34:52

{Ed002's Note - I thought you said you would not be posting anymore?}

18 Nov 2016 20:50:32
Mr. SKIAs views ( often written with little eloquence and therefore taken out of context) are often dismissed out of hand, including by me.
He takes it on the chin and, in his own way, comes back for more. That's what banter is all about IMO.
A fair few of us have slated his views on match attendance, rightly so. But that doesn't deter him. I for one have actually learnt how to deal with his ways . He's even promised to buy me a pint at Elland Road.
A few week's ago I told him to take a holiday in Bhutan.!
So Andy my point to you is carry on with your excellent posts. Just, maybe, be a little less sensitiveand have some fun with us and Mr Knows F. k All .

18 Nov 2016 21:17:55
I agree Andy!
However, bet he doesn't buy you a pint!

18 Nov 2016 22:14:46
He'll never hear the last of it if he doesn't.

18 Nov 2016 21:41:08
Just clarifying my position. And I will still post on any important more generalized threads like Oldvillan's above. The bad 1% just spoils posting for me, but I will continue to read the decent stuff most of you guys put up.

18 Nov 2016 23:25:14
Tell you what!
I'll buy you both one. well might get him a coke!
