If, (and yes it’s a big if! ) you could guarantee promotion this year, would you rather second spot, or to go up via the play off?
A rather pointless question I agree, but a debate my father, son and I had nevertheless!
They both think second. which to begin with I agreed. but when you think it through, to go up winning the play off is almost as big as winning the league (almost, I would swap my right testicle to be where wolves are) but the boost it gives to the following season is there to see.
I accept I have only looked at a few, not many, but of the teams to go up over the years, the play off winners do best. then there is the trophy, look, a cup is a cup, and allegedly that match is the richest in club football!
So.
I say, if we can hand on heart say next year we are in prem, I would love to go up via a trip to Wembley.
What’s your thoughts?

If it’s garuanteed, then play offs every day of the week and twice on a Sunday. Imagine the scenes winning at Wembley, I think it’s gives you more exposure aswell, Newcastle went up top last year but Huddersfield were the big story and their win at Wembley was one of the driving factors behind that. More drama, more excitement and more exposure, show everyone we are on our way back. If you go up automatic then you get the attention of the usual championship press officers and journalists, you go up in the play off final at Wembley live on sky and everyone watches everyone listens, this group of players deserve some national credit, polar opposites to the group that got us relegated.

It's great to win a play off final at Wembley but my god the feeling you get if you lost the game is really unbearable to watch,
I prefer 2nd spot all day long but at end of day we must go up this year at all costs,
Next year would be even harder to get out plus we would not have money to spend due to ffp,

Bob, that wasn’t the question!
What I’m saying is. take it for granted we are definitely going up. can’t catch wolves, so. is it better to be the runner up, in 2nd, or to go up via playoff?

Misread your post flackie,
Call it the age thing!
Play off all the way,
Can't beat a day out at Wembley,

If we're guaranteed the win at a a Wembley final then definitely the play-off's for sure. Winning at Wembley and restoring our rightful place in the top tier would be the club equivalent of winning the World Cup. Imagine being behind the goal when Albert takes on the Fulham defence and hits the winner two minutes from time .

It ain't over yet haven't we still to play Cardiff, haven't Cardiff still to play wolves, from what I remember Cardiff have a pretty tough run in, I know it's out of our hands now but it's still more than possible, do Fulham have to play wolves or Cardiff? From here on in is a cup final now and this is where experience comes into it with the likes of Terry Jedi and co we have to get behind the lads like last Saturday never heard villa park like that before Anyway why are we afraid of playoff I'm pretty sure nobody will want to face us in it as Well, We will go up this year 1 way or another believe in the lads.

I really hope we go up I really do,
But I feel we have missed a trick by losing to QPR on Tuesday,
7 points to make up is not making our job easy at all,
It can be done but this weekend will be our last chance saloon to finish 2nd,
Derby need to beat Cardiff and we have to win against Bolton,
We villa fans need to keep the faith so come on your lions!

Not bothered about winning the league as long as we go up. Playoffs will be very hard who ever is in it. It's a lottery as they say. Huddersfield went up last season without scoring a goal in open play I believe. Would rather not face Fulham I'd take Derby, Cardiff or Middlesbrough a year day of the week. In 88 we went up as runner's up and stayed there.
