Hi all, first post but have been reading these pages for a good few windows now.

Actually think I am ready for Benteke to go now as I think having that money to spend is more appealing.
Would love Remy in but also be happy with Austin plus I have a really good feeling about Kozak.

Not sure what to think about a director of football being brought in, hasn't been a great success at other clubs in the prem. wonder if TS is happy with the appointment?

Welcome GlasVilla
I disagree with you mate. As Sherwood has said himself, it's alright thinking you have all that money (from the sale of Benteke) but you try spending it .
It's surprisingly easy to fritter away even that amount of cash on poor players
Tottenham did it with £80 million !
In Benteke we have the real deal and need to try and put better players around him

I see your point Mendax and don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be upset if he stays but I do think he can be inconsistent and have a tendency to sulk if not going his way.

The players that we are being linked with (especially the British based ones) are tried and tested and would be low risk acquisitions.

Personally, I would prefer Austins constant flow of goals throughout the season to Bens more prolific, but sporadic periods.

Basically, I am happy either way! :)

P.S Really enjoy your balanced viewpoints over the last couple of seasons Mendax. And Ed, I am Glasgow based so always had a soft spot for your comments!!

{Ed007's Note - Thanks mate, I'm just outside Glasgow in deepest darkest Hamilton.}

Been watching Amavi on YouTube again, hope that 1 comes off, if we can find a right back in the same mould, good times are ahead because the rest of squad is shaping up nicely. I'm not 100% convinced Bacuna is the answer for right back, maybe with a bit of coaching?

I really like Bacuna but he played as a wing forward or at Cam for Gronigen before we bought him, he can't defend and I don't think he could be taught to, to the standard required for the premier league. Agree with you on Amavi - looks class.

TS wants up to 7 more players to be sold this transfer window, who would you get rid of?

For me: Senderos, Sissokho, Cole, Nzogbia (no chance anyone stupid enough to take him) Tonev, Richardson and Steer (probably a loan)

I basically agree with that list, but I've just got a feeling that Tonev may come good this season.
One player i would add to the list is Westwood. Mediocre at best IMO.

I wouldn't sell Richardson, good utility player and he made some crucial goal line clearances last season. There are plenty I would have out before him.

Agree Richardson aswell as Cole are worth hanging onto. Its true Westwood is mediocre but I'd hang onto him as a replacement.

Not that I've seen us linked with either, but read on sky sports live blog that societal interested in arsenal's Joel Campbell for £6m and Bournemouth interested in berbatov on a free. Surely either of these, or both, would be a better option than adebayor??

Thoughts??

Berbatov? Really?!
I don't think he really fits Sherwoods high energy high workrate ethos. Plus the fact he's sh*t!
Joel Campbell is worth a go though decent player and never going to get a look in at Arsenal

Im sure plenty of other clubs around the worlds divisions feel the same way. Success goes in cycles, eventually some fall away and some come good. Of course I want to us perform at the highest tier but I don't support this club because I want them to win the league or trophies every year (although it would be nice) - I support them because they are my team, always have been always will be, irrespective of ownership or financial backing.

I feel sorry for the glory hunting City fans who have only known them under the Sheiks ownership because as soon as he gets bored and wants to do something else their fall from grace will be massive. Then we see who the real fans are.

I do think Lerner cares about the club - but I think he cares about his money just as much and rightly so. He came in and invested millions, we got 3 consecutives 6ths and hit the wall. The level of constant investment needed was too much for the clubs revenue streams so he reduced his funding and tried to sell at a level where he would get his investment back. You don't become a billionaire by needlessly throwing money away. He gave it a go and it didn't work out.

I believe that a sale is taking as long as it is because Randy genuinely wants the club to go to a custodian who has the best interests at heart.

Hi guys I know we've probably had similar posts to this but hey I thought I'd share my thoughts on the whole takeover saga. So here goes.
i honestly believe there is more than meets the eye with what tim sherwood said. Here is why. We are not only spending a lot more than usual but we are attracting players. Let alone fab deciding to stay. Tim convinced Big Ben will stay although I do feel if the price came in he would be off. This tells me that players aren't being purchased with the sale of benteke in mind. This money and sudden attraction to avfc has to have more to it. Either way even if it is Lerner investing I'm a happy man so far. I feel that bringing in 2 more players would suffice. One striker and andros Townsend in my opinion. The team looks a lot stronger already. Maybe it is a diversion to clubs to avoid being overcharged for players. It makes sense. Fingers crossed either way. UTV.
