A true legend of football in the midlands, great player and a true gentleman off the pitch;a family man with decent values, god bless you Cyril, and prayers to your family, trailblazer in our region, and above all, always had time to spare those around him, i salute you sir.

{Ed0333's Note - I echo those sentiments mate. He really was a trailblazer and I think his legacy will be profound and echo in eternity. I grew up when he was in his prime and he really didn’t get the kudos he deserved. I hope some of the guys that subjected him to vile abuse hang their head in shame because he truly is/was a legend.

Ed0333-on the button there Ed, i remember when the footy magazine 4-4-2 were doing their light-hearted annual awards and they gave big Cyril the 'Star Trek'award for boldly going were no great footballer had been before, when he signed for coventry! lol! ;that tickled me, and rumour has it he had a big old laugh as well! i always wondered just how good the partnership would have been with laurie cunningham playing alongside, i hope they start a team upstairs now that give St. Peter and his team the runaround, like you say, never really appreciated outside the region, Englands' shame and loss, but to me Big Cyril was years ahead of his time in regards to fitness and desire, i just hope that the least the bbc and sky do this weekend is show some of his goals and that smile he gave, when a defender clattered him, then see the defender realise his afternoon would be going downhill with a few bumps and bruises awaiting him! lol! -no matter he played for the baggies, to me he'll always be one of best centre forwards our game has ever produced, here's to you BIG CYRIL.

{Ed0333's Note - Lovely words mate. In retrospect his career was coming to an end when I started getting into football but I knew even at 6 or 7 he was a revered man. Only years later I realized his adulation was for both his footballing skill and humanity. May he Rest In Peace.

First time post but read all the time. In 1991 Cyrille scored the first goal that I ever witnessed at Villa Park. From that moment I was hooked. 26 years of downs and downs since but I will never forget that moment of magic!
