Robbie Keane anyone? Available and more than capable, even as a sub?

UTV

15 Jan 2017 21:01:30
Yes
Better than what we have

15 Jan 2017 23:06:09
Is it April 1st already?

16 Jan 2017 07:39:10
Look at it another way, Gabby or Robbie Keane, no fee, contract till end of season, we're short of strikers, come up with a realistic alternative target, taking into account our position and funds available when the midfield is where most of Dr Tony's money has got to go on?

Oh my dear god Bob!

Never in all my days have I heard such a load of tripe

I don't sometimes agree with some of Steve Bruce's ideas or substitutions however he is putting a team out which has not been assembled by him . and is trying his best to make the best of a bad bunch

Gollini was error prone so he shipped him out .

He took elphick out the team and put in baker and were more solid at the back .

He plays gabby as what else is there especially as Kodjia is at afcon

As for serving up the worst football well that is two fold .

We don't have the players in midfield to play expansive football .

We may be serving up the worst football possible but when we have the team on the pitch we currently have are you surprised .

Look at the players we have been linked with

Bree the RB
Hourihane
Lansbury
Cairney
Rhodes
Hogan

I also think we need another CB as elphick is not good enough and baker is injury prone

All of the above are better than we have got . and to be fair if we could get them would vastly change the way we are playing football at present

but maybe we should just keep sacking managers until we have spent another 100 million and are playing like Real Madrid!

Well said kenn

Posted last week that we need a new spine in the team to transform the spineless team.
We have a new keeper but now a fresh centre back, a universal FULL back to help the back row, in the 60's they called him the sweeper. Nearest we ever got was the legend Mcgrath.
At least 3 extra in the middle with imagination and as hard as nails.
Then in the front an old fashioned 9 to bag the ball.
Too many pretty attempts, none on Saturday, to get goals.
Need to get down and dirty to grind a goal.
No left out prem bargains unless Charlie Adam wants to come.
I can't believe that our team are so far off the track.
Come on SB you are the chosen one!

15 Jan 2017 20:05:11
Adam wants to come? Can't find that anywhere but would be great for us 👍🏻 As for a 'sweeper' Jedinak is pretty much doing that job, leave him to do that and not expect any more from him, Adam and Lansbury as forward thinking midfielders that track back when needed, then any permutation of 3 up front, that's a 443, Kodjia being the obvious No9, a No10/ winger, 2 wingers, 2 No10s etc.

there should be plenty of creativity and goals there surely? Hoolihane and Cainey would work too, just giving examples of who would work for us, in the short term we need a striker too, take your pick out of who we've been linked with?

He said unless he wants to come!
Meaning he would be only fringe player he would take

15 Jan 2017 20:52:32
Unless Charlie Adam wants to come not Charlie Adam wants to come.

15 Jan 2017 21:34:24
So do WE want Charlie Adam to come then? I woulda gone for him last summer, good solid player that you know what you're going to get with him. and name a centre mid we have at Villa that is better than him and what he gives to a team? A lot of players we are linked to are a gamble, Adam gets goals, got a mean streak, perfect for the division we're in

Me? I would in a heart beat!

16 Jan 2017 08:58:25
It's the mean streak that I like!

15 Jan 2017 16:15:19
Bruce is a good manager but why does he play Gabby, why not give one of the kids a chance. Any ideas on this.

15 Jan 2017 16:37:34
A) prove a point to the doctor that we need replacement

B) doesn't feel the younger players are ready

C) doesn't think the younger players are good enough

D) wanted/ felt gabby might grab the chance to prove himself

15 Jan 2017 18:19:41
E) all of the above

Haven't posted for a while as I have been prescribed some happy pills and now sit in a dark padded room on a Sat between 3 and 5. I was quietly watching Tipping Point last night when at 5.30 Villa appeared on my TV. After watching for the next 90 mins I have now doubled my dosage and have booked a weekend in a farm of the funny variety.

15 Jan 2017 15:40:44
Does that mean you are going down Cattle rd to the sty.

16 Jan 2017 12:26:45
I will still be sitting in The Holte this Sat and am busy booking a room for the Forest game.
Keeping taking the tablets and still believe. We are now and always will be the Pride of the Midlands. We will come back stronger and better we all know that.
Can't wait for this weekend to give Sir Graham a proper send off. UTV

Are we any nearer to signing any player?
The need for a leader on the pitch is obvious.
Poor SB must be wondering what he will do if his targets are not achieved. His job is safe, that's is why he was bought in to change the whole culture within.
Lerner f. Ed us with his unwillingness to support his managers and I reckon that PL Is now realising how lucky he was when he went.
However Dr Xia after spending £50m+
Must wonder why DiM was selected.
We have 6 players that should be the nucleus of the team but the rest should be moved on to recoup some money so that SB can get players that want to play for Aston Villa but they may have to come from lower divisions.
This season is not dead it is reliant on SB getting half a dozen real players. If it does not happen then next season he will be very busy.
Keep looking onwards and upwards that's where we want to get.

Great post, and spot on!
How people can be blaming Bruce is laughable.

Not seeing the wood, because the trees get in the way. again.

15 Jan 2017 16:06:38
Blaming Bruce was inevitable, some fans see a loss and suddenly Bruce is a blue nose potato, despite the circumstances or previous results, it's ridiculous. We need to look at having Chester, Baker, Amavi, Jedinak, Adomah and personally I'd say McCormack, and building around them to get out of this league.

15 Jan 2017 14:21:36
Watched the game yesterday and read all comments about the game and manager here some I agree with others I don't
Those that stupid enough calling for his head already have to realise this isn't his squad he has been playing catch due to a very bad start yeah I'm sure Dr tony will give Bruce the funds needed to build hus own squad but this can't be possible in just 1 window
Personally I would sell amavi for the 25m I just don't think he is as good as what we built him up to be I think hutton is getting a raw deal from us the fans he is twice the defender amavi is maybe not as good going forward but he was baught as a defender and he should get that right first
Jedinak legs have gone Bruce took off the wrong man last night Jedinak can not make a simple 5 yard pass
I hoped things might have worked out for gabby but he isiant offer g us anything personally I think gabby played his best football under O Neill and that was out wide in front 3 with carew and young looking last night we lack pace on the left maybe that might suite gabby or has his legs gone aswell
I taught green had done more in the 25mins he was that what bacuna did the previous 65 mins green looks quite a decant player big strong and has a bit of pace
This team won't get us up this year they don't have the bottle our top scorer is away for 4 weeks and he has only scored 9 goals I wouldn't be worrying about replacing hutton or anybody else in the back line get our midfield sorted because at the moment we don't have one and make a decision on mccormack if he isiant going to be used right in a front 2 let him out on loan or sell him and get somebody in to help kodjia because if he gets injured and out for a long period we are in big trouble because we don't have goals anywhere in the team

15 Jan 2017 13:45:21
When you play Gabby upfront we will not get much out of the match. We need a striker, midfielder and a defender. And hope our players do not get injured at the AFCON. Villa forever.

15 Jan 2017 13:24:50
People people people am i reading right bruce out grelish is rubbish lol calm down. So what if we stay in this league a bit longer better to go up when we are ready. Did people honestly think that in 1 season we are going to turn 8 years of rubbish around? We will get there just not yet give bruce a season to get his own players his come in like rafa benetez 1st year sus the players out 2nd year go up. Rome was not built in a day. Have a great sunday UTV

Get in a left mid, two centre mids, striker and right back, for the sake of the post - Brady, Lansbury, Hourihane, Bree and Rhodes and here's the team:
Johnstone
Bree Chester Baker Amavi
Adomah Hourihane Lansbury Brady
McCormack Rhodes

The only player who played a game for villa last year is Amavi, an he was out for 90% of the season, play them for 3/ 4 games, let them know their the first team, their Aston Villa now, its up to them to make a new reputation for us, top class attitude, effort, all the bad eggs are no longer here or no longer starters therefore they hold no power in the dressing room and then results will come in abundance, not just because of the quality in the team because of the mentality.

As I say obviously not them exact players in the new positions, and Jedinak could arguably get in there but yea, after a season like last year, were going to suffer these sort of games whilst certain players are still playing.

15 Jan 2017 16:19:24
Good post only one i would change is Kodjia for McCormack.
