We have tried pretty and failed.
Tried keep ball and failed.
Indeed everything we have tried has failed.
Apparently we have the two best strikers in the championship but they don't score.
Lots of static players not looking for an opening or moving into a position to recheive a pass.
No imagination and no variety.
Need a solid no nonsense c/ h.
Need a hard midfield maestro (Charlie Adam? )
Need someone who can see a pass.
Need to get the ball in the box!

Mate it was one game, bad day at the office. Not the apocalypse. Don't give up just yet.
14 Dec 2016 20:12:55
But it wasn`t one game was it, we were very poor against Wigan.
We make such hard work of everything we do, three good midfield players, Kodjia should play off or behind an out and out striker, and I think we would be almost there.
14 Dec 2016 20:45:00
No disprepesct Dave but if a team like wigan put 10 men behind the ball it is very hard to find gaps between the defence and midfield so I disagree there bud. I agree that we was very poor against Norwich come Sunday I suspect it will be a different Villa lining up with a positive result.
14 Dec 2016 21:02:22
Yes it is hard Daz I agree, but that is the reason you need to play wide people to get in behind and cross the ball.
We mess about too much mate, backwards, sideways, for heaven`s sake.
Listen I love Bruce and what we have to come.
Three times yesterday we were on the edge of the Norwich area and three times it ended up back with Gollini, explain that to me please or am I missing something.
14 Dec 2016 21:15:39
We knew the deficiencies in the squad before Bruce took over. It's all about midfield. Bruce will know it as well
He has not had a chance to address this as yet and it might take more than the one transfer window to do it
Given the circumstances it's remarkable he's done so well
Give the guy a reasonable chance to address the issues that need addressing and we will be fine.
14 Dec 2016 21:24:03
Nobody is having a pop at Bruce Mendax, just making some obvious observations.
I think Bruce is great like I said, I also think you will see for our next game some big changes.
14 Dec 2016 21:51:16
Trouble is Dave we really do not have any wide men to cross the ball as such Ayew is being played out of position so is Kodja and Grealish as Mendex said Brucey hasn't had nothing to work with yet as such come January he will address it that I'm sure of as what you said about being on the edge yes I agree mate but unless there is no movement then the only way is to keep possession and try and build again in the words of the great Jimmy Greaves "It's a funny old game"
14 Dec 2016 22:15:40
It is a funny old game Daz for sure.
It has to be if a club has 20+ professionals on its books and nobody can play wide and cross the ball.
You have to try things, Fulham sold its two best strikers at the end of last season, yet a bit of shifting and shuffling and bingo third highest scorers in the division.
Nothing ventured nothing gained, who dares wins, so they say.
Play some youngsters, like a lot have been saying on here, blimey I don’t mind losing if I get value for money.
14 Dec 2016 22:24:02
Just the way you wrote it Dave like it was game over and already decided we wasn't getting promotion, you might not of meant it like that but that's the way it read. We need to be patient and wait until after Jan then we will know if we are good enough to go up!
14 Dec 2016 22:50:43
Nothing could be further from the truth, If you read it that way you should give up reading chris.
Why is it if you speak as you see things people on this site jump on you for being some sort of doom and gloom merchant.
I think we could very well make the playoffs, but try new things, and have a go.

Isn't it great to actually have a club/ team/ football discussion again!?
We all knew the problems we have in the squad, and the last 2-3 performances have been bad, no question. however, as long as we stay in touch until Bruce has had his window, then we can truly judge and assess.
Look at the bigger picture, the belief he installed, and the run we had brought back an expectation and wasn't it a great feeling going in to games expecting a win? Maybe just maybe these last few games could be a wake up call?
Anyway. great thread, and good to see some of us old timers posting again!
15 Dec 2016 06:55:56
I'm going to admit here I just went to look back I thought you wrote the original post Dave, fair enough. But you have to see where I'm coming from about the first post in this thread, "tried failed, tried failed, tried failed" "two best striker can't score" "no imagination no variety" - all after one loss.
15 Dec 2016 07:08:55
But all true.
Reality is some times harsh.
Identifying failure areas is never popular.
Did not mention anything about the future.
I still hold dreams that Bruce will get it right.
15 Dec 2016 08:06:35
I think he will oldvillan if not this season then I'd put my money on us getting promotion next season.
15 Dec 2016 08:40:55
Next season will be harder than ever before. Teams coming down with huge amounts of money, more than ever before.
15 Dec 2016 09:08:01
Sorry old villain but you wrote it as if we should all give up now, I understand frustration after a defeat and performance like it was but you can't just fixate on that, it's 1 in 9, we haven't seen anything like that since Preston. We beat QPR on Sunday and perform like we have the other 8 games, and all of a sudden the only "failure area" you've pointed out that still stands is the midfield - which has been apparent since the start of the season.
15 Dec 2016 10:12:41
Andy your right but so do we with the parachute payments plus a wealthy owner behind us.
15 Dec 2016 12:57:18
Did the club/ team / football discussions stop at some point then?
I've enjoyed the last few weeks and months on here a lot!
