Kodija looks the business.
Quick, alert, intelligent and willing.
Big money spent but at present prices he could be seen as a bargain if we get back up.
I say if because we made so many errors that nothing is certain.
Many posters called for Gardener to be back at the club but I cannot see why.
I know that there are others to go into the midfield but we are slipping away.
They looked really good at times then at other times they looked like last year.
Is Grealish the answer?
Is Westwood right for us?
Midfield lacked the steel that is needed in any team.

11 Sep 2016 22:41:58
I agree with you here oldvillan. I was at the game and kępt shaking my head at Westwood so much so i'm sure people around me must have thought i had a problem! Its very clear we were lacking in the middle of the park and hopefully Jednaik and or Tish will tighten things up. If we sort that out i think we will dominate most teams in this division. I think Grealish needs to add a killing element to his game, because today he just didn't have it. Apart from those guys Ayew looked very good, Mcormack is a craftsman, and the Kod also looks the part. Caution for RDM "Chester needs to be watched closely" is Baker a better choice?

12 Sep 2016 09:50:04
I'm guessing you mean you was shaking your head for Westwood passing back/ sideways? Well I'd rather that than him lose the ball. But then your moaning about Gardner because he attempts to go forward and to be quite honest yesterday majority of what he tried came off and if it didn't 9/ 10 he won the ball back straight away. So I don't get the argument, we don't wanna pass the ball sideways/ back but then we don't want to attempt things passing direct. So what are you actually looking for? Goals from the half way line?

11 Sep 2016 19:14:37
can't fault today's game by the lads. only thing it lacked was that bit of luck needed to get us over the line get a win and grow in confidence and as a group. we can do no more as a team than dominate games. need to take the chances though. only think I would say is at 2 1 up I'd of put jedinak on to boss the midfield and sure us up a bit. keep the faith people this team will smash someone soon then I think we will take off. utv.

11 Sep 2016 19:43:41
Kingy as you say Jedinak should of come on, Jack and Mac are not going to run back covering . Jedinak would have made us safe . Villa forever.

11 Sep 2016 21:12:29
I agree Jedinak should have come on in CM. This is the problem area and I think other teams are well aware of it.
They have cottonned on to the fact that we are weak when pressured in midfield.
Westwood is very limited and so is Gardener at the moment. I think they could both be off in January to Burnley and Forest respectively.
Midfield steel and creativity costs big and I feel that this is the area that the Doctor and RDM will invest in.

12 Sep 2016 09:54:33
Kingy what an accurate review of the game, lads played well just silly mistakes at the back! If jedinak comes on that stays at 2-1 I bet. I was there and I am the first to slate players when it's deserved but do not get people calling for Westwood and gardeners head, it looked poor on paper because in previous games they've both been terrible, but yesterday they played well, Westwood was a bit limited going forward and Gardner a bit limited going back (gave 2 fouls away) but other than that they did their job! 26 shooting oppertunities created, the midfield is NOT the problem, 8 shots on target shows how much we dominated, we have to score more!

11 Sep 2016 18:19:15
I have seen a stat today the forrest physio ran more than westwood!

11 Sep 2016 18:05:15
Played well second half, if only we could put more of the chances away . Couldent understand RDM leaving just one in midfield, after we went 2-1 up, Jedinak should have come on to shore it up . Sorry to say Super Jack, not so super . Time after time he slows play up, keeps getting the ball caught up in his feet . Thought the big lad put his self about up front, Bristol fans where saying he tended hide, but didn't see that today . let's get these new player all fit and involved and I think things will certainly be better . Onwards &Upwards Villa forever.

11 Sep 2016 18:46:44
didnt he move mccrmack to cm with westwood and play ayew rm with jack lm?

11 Sep 2016 16:12:44
just back from the game i thought we was fantadtic today but due to injurys we had to play westwood an gardner who i think are absolutely garbage. with tisbola and Jedinak our main midfielders when they're back we will be fine! Another point Rudy gestede is top goal scorer he needs to start. To me RDM dnt no his best team or formation yet!

11 Sep 2016 18:09:58
Agree re Gustede and formation. Gustede looks a different player this season, has to start, kodija looks brilliant and mccormacks record speaks for itself. Would love to see McCormack with a strike partner in a top two, not playing behind a striker. Would also love to see grealish in a central role, the boy is proving to be top quality so far this season.

11 Sep 2016 21:11:24
Well the question is, if you start Gestede, who do you drop?

12 Sep 2016 09:57:09
Was thinking about this, it really is impossible to get Gustede, Kodija, McCormack, Ayew, Grealish and Adomah into one team! Unless you play Gustede kodija up top, McCormack head of the diamond, grealish left ayew right and then one holding mid with adomah on the bench.

11 Sep 2016 15:48:13
i can't believe the amount of people moaning on facebook about how poor we was and its the same old villa,

am i the only person watching that game thinking we was by far the better team and we definitely deserved a win?

if the likes of messi or ronaldo or saurez had scored that goal or made that run people would be banging on about it for years, we need to fix the center mids out and we might start winning games.

11 Sep 2016 16:01:19
We moan because we are fed up with our overpaid players letting us long suffering fans down. We have had 6 years of abject failure some of us have had enough and are entitled to vent our spleen.

11 Sep 2016 16:01:41
26 shots, 8 on target, hit the post twice, the bar once and had 2 or 3 inches wide. You was watching the same game mate, we was unlucky. Need to take chances from now on!

11 Sep 2016 17:45:15
I don't do stats. However Villa were the much better team today. I think we will continue to create chances and score plenty. Ayew was IMO the best player on view by a country mile.
BUT we do have a big problem which is preventing us from killing off teams AND holding onto a lead. Centre midfield is simply not good enough.
We can all see it. Westwood and Gardener are useless .
Can RDM not see this? .
I'm afraid if we don't sort this out quickly we will be too far adrift to push for promotion.

11 Sep 2016 23:39:09
Agree with some posters is it me or does grealish try TOO much sometimes . and he cuts in all the time I'd like him to go out wide and put in crosses more like ayew did second half.

Id like to see the championships most potent striker to be played in his natural role.

Whete does adomah fit into this equation? Who do we drop .

We can't moan at the midfield (well we can but will be here all day) we know they aren't good enough but tish and Jedi will occupy those spaces.

Played good today Mind.

12 Sep 2016 07:41:11
my transfer knowledge is only based on footy manager but can we still loan a player or two in the next week,

i think this is where we should have a word with a few prem clubs see who is free as we really need back up for if we have an injury or a ban because westwood and gardener are not going to help.

adomah i can see we brought in expecting ayew to be leaving.

{Ed001's Note - no, the emergency loan window has been scrapped for this season mate.}

12 Sep 2016 13:25:56
damn it. could have got a few useful players in too.

well that's my footy manager 2017 messed up then as would look to see whos not getting games mid sept and loan them for 2-3 months.

11 Sep 2016 15:31:58
If you had Tshibola and Jedinak fit we would have beat them about 7-0. Finishing wasn't great but the midfield was a atrocious, Gardner's passing was a disgrace.

11 Sep 2016 15:31:25
17th in the league, taking any positive marginaly better thsn last year, how long do we remain positive, I suppose a lap of honour when we survive at the end of the season will be our only success.

11 Sep 2016 16:53:40
Now you've just made yourself look silly.

11 Sep 2016 18:18:16
I honestly think we will go up you can't keep attacking like that and not win games i would like baker to partner elphick chesters to nice.

11 Sep 2016 18:50:23
From the various post-match posts from 'hopeful' today, I can only assume this is a name adopted with an excruciating level of irony. It's still early days but what todays performance showed was that we can score goals, have a potentially deadly strike-force and, in Kodja, have someone who could restore the power in the air we lost with Big Ben. This is a brand new team so, at this point, still gelling. Today's performance was one of the best and most promising I have seen for a long time. Granted, Westwood looks way out of place. Some people need to get their heads around the fact that we may not bounce straight back. The reality check is that this is a very strong division - I'm sure there are embittered old Forest fans still banging on about the glory days when they won the European Cup as well and just how long has that famous old club been out of the top flight?

11 Sep 2016 15:23:18
As long as we persevere with ineffectual players in midfield we will never move forward, i didn't see anything from either Westwood or Gardner. just like last year we will always concede goals from goalkeeping errors and poor defensive lapses. Mid table awats.

11 Sep 2016 14:57:27
be intresting to see how many people are singing to the hills about how great ayew is after this match? I've said all along that i think he is a great player just a shame he can't finish for toffee.

12 Sep 2016 12:11:30
He's only playing for a transfer in the january window, his agent is already touting to all and sundry, money grabber.

12 Sep 2016 13:28:15
might only be playing for tranfers and every footballer will take a transfer if the cash is right, but if he can play like that every week and we replace with a player just as good that's fine, but if he was wanting out i think he would have took any deal in this window and left.

12 Sep 2016 16:09:26
He was going to, but dr. xia drew his line in the sand to show he has the final say, not ayew's agent, come january though; could be a different kettle of fish?

11 Sep 2016 14:41:06
That just about sums it up! Can you feel the pressure building RDM? Call it as I see it and this is no better than last season! 1st away goal for Forest this season! We really are a laughing stock.

11 Sep 2016 14:11:32
Poor 1st half. Loads of possession no end product. Got to start creating chances and converting them. Already 11 points behind leaders. RDM will soon be under pressure from the good Doctor.

11 Sep 2016 12:48:52
Our midfield looks weak today I'm afraid to say but hears hoping for 3 points c'mon YOU LIONS.

11 Sep 2016 13:46:37
Watching the game, loads of possession 1st 20 minutes but not one single chance created! New Manager, new players, new owner but at the moment same as last season. Really don't know what the answer is. Confidence is a commodity you cannot buy and that is the key ingredient that's missing. We've lost our way in this game.

11 Sep 2016 14:55:43
as most been saying from start of season that midfield will cost us dearly and as of the 70th minute it nearly was. we need more bite and ability

but as i'm writting we just knocked in our second and we might just get away with this one.

11 Sep 2016 15:35:33
I know we all are hurting from this draw, but 2 of our best midfielders weren't fit, that would have made a big difference.

On another note, how many times have we hit the post this season, I've counted about 7 so far.

11 Sep 2016 00:42:46
Anyone else a bit twitchy about the men in tights, i'm hoping bentdner lives down to his reputation and clarkey has the defence ticking like a swiss clock; 2-1 to us, and the watch word, concentrate!
