Could I propose another scenario that I would love to see employed in response to Benteke's request?
Tell him and anyone interested in buying him that the price is £35 million wth the deal concluded by e/o July
If this is not met, Benteke stays, is told he will get his move next year and reminded, should he start playing silly buggers, that their is a world cup next year and that if he wants to get there, he needs to get his head around the harship of staying at Villa for another year
Seems reasonable to me
What we cannot do is be pushed around over this affair.

Sounds good to me Mendax, 35mil would put most if not all clubs out of this mess.
I don't think we will be pushed around on this one because of the politics involved.
Also the timescale, end of July is good we need things to settle down for a few weeks before the season starts.
Also if this did happen his contract should not be improved at all until some sort of commitment is shown.

Forgot to add this to my post above in answer to Mendax.
I think there is a lot more to this story than meets the eye.
I would not be surprised if there is a twist in this somewhere, can't put my finger on it, but it just does not feel right.
Too much being said, and yet not enough being said if that makes sense.

Cisse could be offered to Villa in a straight swap for Darren Bent. Any takers!

Why would they do that? He's the only striker they have.

Could be the problem he has with Wonga. {Ed001's Note - he doesn't have a problem with Wonga, their previous shirt sponsor was a moneylender too! This is just media bull to make up a story where one doesn't exist. If there is a problem between him and the club, it is nothing to do with the shirt sponsor.}

even if we got 30mil for benteke we are still limited to who we buy because of our wage cap. spurs are not a bigger club than villa but will always finish above us due to them payin the better wages.

There will always be a bias opinion towards the London clubs, for years now.

Lots of speculation about whether Villa have to sell Benteke and whether his value will drop simply because he has put in a transfer request.

As I see it he is less than 1 year into a 4 year contract worth a reported £20k a week.

Villa paid £8m for him and by all conservative estimations he is now worth £20m

Lambert as demonstrated that he is more than willing to allow players on higher wages (Given, Ireland, Bent) to lanquish on the bench or outside the matchday squad.

To all those clubs and agents who believe they can do a deal at the expense of Villa have, I believe, a rude awakening looming. Although I would be happier to see Benteke included in the 1st team every week it would not surprise me if he isn't and even if we have to pay him for 12 months to make a point we should still make a healthy profit on our initial investment.

I love John Carew! A real Villa legend not a one season wonder. Aleays good when ex players refer to us as "we, our & us" He is right Benteke doesn't deserve to play for Villa. Like John I'd play for Villa for free. if I was any good!

Benteke has been offered to Liverpool and Man City for £25 million. It will cost Spurs £30 million as there has been clear tapping up of the player, Eris kismet will have to return the nice brown envelope. Lerners going to play hard ball and has promised Lambert a replacement to be funded regardless of a sale or not.
